Ch16 - It Couldn't Be True Love, Could It? Pt2
How, gentlemanly of him...
I placed my hand on my chest, I could feel the faint thrum, of my heart; as it was beating wildly, I stayed in place, against the door; while I tried to wrap my head around Hook's offer, of escorting me off the ship, himself.
So why am I, nervous? It could be a number of things; as I'm about to visit a strange place, that has no ties; to my parent's kingdom, and instead of being surrounded by friends and family, I'm going to be surrounded by Pirates.
I could hear the crew, as they prepared to dock; I moved slightly, to open the door. I peered out, fighting back a smile as did; as I watched the crew, scuttle up the ladder, they were murmuring amongst themselves.
I managed to catch a few words as they filed past me, a few of them mentioning visiting the tavern for more than just a drink, I blanched at that.
A few of them made eye contact with me, before disappearing from sight; I smiled, before closing the door, I leaned against it again.
My hair falling around my shoulders as I did, I sighed softly; before deciding to braid it. I swept my hair over my shoulder, before getting to work on braiding it; once it was finished, I swept it back.
I straightened my clothes, and just in time; as I heard a knock, I opened the door, and was greeted by Hook. He, looked at me; before he spoke.
"May I escort, you into town; Milady?"
I smiled, before answering.
"I would like that, thank you; Captain, and please call me Emma"
He smiled, while nodding; we then made our way out into the corridor, he allowed me to head up first, I opened the hatch, smiling softly as I was greeted by the sights and sounds of the sea.
I turned around, and noticed Hook was making his way up; I held the hatch open, while moving slightly to let him onto the deck, he then closed it.
As we walked along the deck, we were greeted by a couple of members of his crew; as we reached the gangplank, Hook moved to stand in front of me.
He made his way down, onto the dock; before turning to face me, he spoke.
"Are you ready, lass?"
I nodded, before joining him; he then offered his hand, as he helped me onto the dock. He stood in front of me, for a few seconds; he then spoke.
"Emma, I must warn you; there are some less than reputable people here, that wouldn't even hesitate to hurt you to get to me, so please stay close, to me lass"
I nodded, as I spoke.
"Thank you for the warning, Captain; but please don't worry, I can take care of myself"
He smiled softly, before offering me his arm; which I gladly accepted, he spoke again.
"Let's hope, it doesn't need to come to that; love"
I nodded, we then made our way into the small port town, I watched as people stepped out of our way, some of them wide eyed as they noticed Hook.
I kept my gaze down at first, before Hook spoke softly.
"Don't look so nervous, love; you're perfectly safe, they're probably wondering, why a lovely lass such as yourself, is doing with a scoundrel like meself"
I lifted my head, to look at him; he smiled encouragingly, I found myself smiling back, before I began to glance around.
I sighed, as I took in the sights and smells of the port town, I stopped dead in my tracks as the smell of freshly baked bread, invaded my senses.
I glanced around, and that's when I noticed the small bakery; I heard Hook chuckle softly, as he spoke.
"See, something you like; Emma?"
I looked at him, before answering.
"Sorry, it's just...that smell is one I was frequently greeted with, in the palace kitchens"
Hook, nodded; before speaking again.
"No need to apologise lass, if you want; we can always procure one, before heading back to the ship this evening"
I smiled, before speaking.
"It wouldn't be fair...what about your crew?"
Hook, smiled softly; before answering.
"Emma, it's alright; how about we procure two...one for us to share at supper tonight and one for the crew"
I nodded, before speaking.
"Thank you, Captain; I wouldn't have felt right, about enjoying supper, if your crew weren't enjoying their supper at the same time"
He nodded, as we continued walking through the small town; we then came to a stop, outside the tavern. Hook opened the door, before gesturing that I step inside.
He then escorted me to a table, we sat opposite each other, a drink was placed down in front of him, followed by a flirtatious greeting, as the woman who placed his drink down, placed herself on his lap.
I sat there, while averting my gaze; I stood up, before making my way, to the bar. I ordered something to drink, while keeping my eyes on Hook.
I watched as he flirted with the tavern wench that seemed to be...excuse my pun, hooked on his every word. I only averted my gaze, when my drink was placed down in front of me; I smiled in thanks, before taking a small sip.
I heard a soft giggle, and I looked up again; and that's when I spotted Hook, as he escorted her upstairs. And that's when I remembered, why we were here; as he mentioned something, about finding someone to help ease his stress.
Stress that was somehow caused by me not allowing him to take the jewels, if that's what he intended to do, why did he ask me to accompany him here?...
