"You were always my big sister," King said. That is what Luz last remember as the little demon king screeched at her in order to save the human and her friends. As the door to the abandoned house shut close, Luz looked on with tears in her eyes.
"No, no, no, King!" Luz said, running up to the door and opening it. The portal was not there. Luz tried the same motion over and over again but it did not change anything. Realizing there is nothing to do, Luz fell to her knees, with tears falling down her face. The sound of crying was heard with the sound of rain pelting the ground.
Getting up, Luz and her friends started to walk toward the human's house. As the small group made their way towards Luz's house, Luz noticed that something was off about the world. Each house they walked by looked different, with the cars looking a bit old and antique. Luz was getting worried hoping she made it back home. She was feeling a pit in her stomach as they were getting closer to her house.
"Are you alright, Luz?" Amity asked, noticing the fear in her girlfriend.
"Yeah, everything's alright. What makes you think that everything's not good?" Luz asked, reassuring Amity, "Look, there is my house."
Luz was approaching her house, with Amity, Guz, Hunter, and Willow staying behind. Knocking on the door, Luz was feeling a mix of happiness and fear of seeing her mother again. When the door opened, Luz heard an unfamiliar voice.
"Hello, may I help you?" an older man asked.
Luz was surprised to see it was not her mother but an older man was at the doorway. "Hi, sorry to bother you, but it seems I got the wrong house. I…I will be going now. Sorry about the interruption," Luz said in shock as she did not recognize the man.
"No, it's alright, but you guys look like you've been through a lot. Would you want to come inside for some food and a drink?" the old man asked.
"We do not want to be a bother to you, but thanks for the offer" Amity said, seeing her girlfriend stress.
"It's fine, in all honesty, I am actually waiting for a good friend of mine to come. We are having a nice celebratory dinner in honor of his recent finding of the gold of Babylon," the old man said.
"Gold of Babylon?" Willow asked.
"Yeah, my friend and colleague, Dr. Indiana Jones was on a excavation dig to find this ancient city before those Nazis got their filthy hands on it," the old man replied.
Luz's eyes widened as she heard a name that sounded familiar. "Indiana Jones, are you talking about the famous archeologist who discovered the Ark of the Covenant and the Holy Grail?" Luz said.
"Yeah, that Indiana Jones," the old man answered.
"Oh no, no, no, no, no, no. This cannot be good. But how is it possible," Luz said to herself. She was finding it hard to breathe as she was hyperventilating. Amity was looking at her girlfriend in worry.
"Luz, are you okay?" Amity asked.
"This is impossible, just how did this happen. I am pretty sure we went through the right portal," Luz continued her tirade, ignoring her girlfriend.
"Luz?" Amity asked.
"I… can't breathe," Luz said, having a hard time breathing. Luz was feeling lightheaded as she fainted hard on the floor.
"Luz!" her friends cried out.
Luz woke up with a cloth on her forehead. She was looking at a ceiling, hoping what she experienced was all just a dream. But those thoughts faded away when she heard a deep, grisly male voice.
"Here kid, drink this," a younger man said, giving Luz a cup of tea.
Luz stood up, taking the cup from the man. She locked eyes with him and saw that the young man had a five o'clock shadow on him, with a scar on his cheek. Luz's eyes widen in shock, realizing who she is in the room with.
"Are you… are you Indiana Jones?" Luz asked.
"Yeah, I am him. Marcus told me that you fainted after you started saying some pretty outlandish things. Your friends were really worried about you, but Marcus told them that you were fine, just needed some rest," Indy explained, "Look kid, you and your friends all looked like you've been through a lot. What the hell happened to you lot?
"If I tell you, you will not believe it," Luz said.
"Try me, kid," Indy said.
"My friends and I are not from this world. Well, more like, my friends are not from this world. I am from this world, but from a different time period. Anyways, my friends and I were fighting this evil emperor who was taking the life force from the people of where my friends are from. The fight was a losing one for sure, but out of nowhere this person, called the Collector, came and killed this evil Emperor. Not only that, but he was able to prevent the people's life force from being drained. However, since this person was a kid with the powers of a god, he began turning reality inside out. One of my friends sacrificed himself so that the rest of us can come to my world safely. But what ended up happening was that we ended up traveling back in time," Luz explained.
"Kid, you do have a wonderful imagination, but tell me what really happened?" Indy asked.
"I am telling you the truth," Luz cried out, "The people in the Boiling Isles are trapped with a child that has powers of a god."
"Look kid, nothing like that ever happens unless it is from a children's book. If you do not want to tell me, that's fine. But you and your friends do need to know the difference between reality and fantasy," Indy said, getting up.
Luz looked up at the archaeologist with teary eyes. "Look Dr. Jones, believe me and friends or not, but what we saw is what we saw. My friends are far from their home, same as me. They don't know what the hell is going on other than this is the human realm. They think we are in the right place, but I feel like they are catching on. Tell me, Dr. Jones, in all of your adventures, how do you explain all the stuff you have seen? The power of god and all that crap," Luz cried out.
"Look kid, those things you have mentioned, I can't really explain it. I try to wrap my mind around those things, and yet even I am at a loss of words. However, those things are based on the supernatural. What you are explaining cannot be plausible. How can a group of children such as yourselves be able to travel between worlds?" Indy asked.
"There is this door that allow us to travel from the Demon Realm to the Human Realm, however it is powered by a liquid called Demon Blood," Luz explained.
"Of course there is, kid. Listen, why not you and your friends rest up. It sounds like you and your friends are experiencing some delirium," Indy said.
Luz was getting really upset as the great Dr. Jones was downplaying what she and her friends were experiencing. Though she can't blame the archeologist that much, considering he never believes in the supernatural or weirdness. Yet, that does not explain half of the things that had happened to him. How can the professor explain what happened to him in India, or on that Island, or even in the desert? Luz thought of something, and before Indy went to the other room, she asked the professor a question.
"Dr. Jones, I do have to ask you, do you know the legend of the Wittebane brothers?" Luz asked.
"Yeah, they were witch hunters that mysteriously disappeared back in the 17th century. No one knows what happened to them. Though that is just a story that keeps little children entertained. What of it?" Indy asked.
"What if I told you I met one of them?" Luz asked.
Indy just laughed aloud and told the young human girl, "You should get some rest."
"Look, even if you don't believe me, I think you might like something I can offer," Luz said, "Something that might be in your expertise."
"Like…?" Indy asked.
Luz put her hands in her pocket, fishing out a journal of Phillip Wittebane. "This. These are the handwritten records of Phillip Wittebane, written by him of course," Luz said.
Indy took it and examined it. The book does look a bit ancient, with some of the pages torn out. But he does have to admit, this is the real diary of Phillip. "Ok kid, very funny, how did you get this?" Indy asked.
"I found this at the library in the Boiling Isles. Wanted to meet the man, but come to find out that he is the evil emperor that rules the kingdom with an iron fist," Luz said, "Just take a look at that, I'm begging you. You don't have to believe me, but just read that."
"Ok, kid, I will. But if you rest up, ok?" Indy negotiated.
"You got it, Dr. Jones. Also, I do want to ask you another question," Luz said, "What is the most common thing in a household that is also worshiped in Ancient Rome?"
"I don't know, kid, what?" Indy asked. But could not get the answer since Luz has fallen asleep. Indy put a blanket over her and walked out the door.
Walking through the hallway of his friend's house, Indy saw the young girl's friends resting in a room. "They do look a bit peculiar," Indy thought, especially looking at their ears and hair. But Indy pushed that thought aside. Walking to the kitchen, Indy saw his best friend, Marcus Brody, drinking a glass of scotch. Pouring a glass for himself, Indy sat across from him.
"What are you thinking Marcus?" Indy asked.
"These children are interesting. They express these interesting gifts that I have never seen in my life. As I was walking by, I saw the purple hair girl summoning this weird goop like thing from thin air, while the green-haired one summoned these vines out of nowhere. Also, when I showed them to the room, the kid with the scar was bowing to me like a knight would. And then there was the girl you have seen. That look in her eyes, Indy, it was pure fear. Something I never thought I would see from a young child. Not only her though, when I opened the door and saw them, they were all like that. Whatever they experience, it is not from this world," Marcus explained, "How did it go with the girl?"
"It was…interesting. She gave me this diary from an old witch hunter that went by the name of Phillip Wittebane," Indy said, giving the diary to his old mentor, "She also asked me what is the most common household item that is worshiped in Ancient Rome?"
Marcus thought for a moment and then realized what that young girl meant. "Janus," Marcus answered.
"Janus?" Indy asked.
"Yeah, Janus. He is the Roman God of beginnings, doorways, passage, time, among other things. I think that young girl was meaning the god, Janus," Marcus asked.
"But why would she mention that?" Indy asked.
Indy was walking around the kitchen until an idea popped in his head. "Do you think she might be referring to the tablets of Janus?" Indy asked.
"Sounds like it, although, I wonder why," Marcus said.
"I know why," Indy said, "She said her and her friends are from a world that is different from ours. Some kind of child' fantasy if you tell me. But if she is mentioning those tablets, then she has got my interest."
"Indy, I am worried about something," Marcus said, "Those kids, when they came inside, mentioned seeing this God that turned an enemy of theirs into liquid. Just looking in their eyes, seeing their fear and trauma. I don't know what it is, but I do fear that when you go on this adventure, you will question yourself."
"Oh come on Marcus, stop thinking like that. You know that half of the stuff I find usually has some kind of supernatural force behind it. Anyways, you do know I am always careful," Indy said,
"That is not what I fear. This enemy, that one of the kids mentioned, sounds like he is not human. He is someone that I do advise to look out for," Marcus said, "Belos was the name the kids gave me. He was this ruler from where the kids are from."
"I will take the advice into consideration. Now, I should check if Jack Shannon still lives in Rome. Figure he can help me out on the quest," Indy said, finishing his drink.
As the house of Marcus Brody was quieting down with everyone going to bed, a small ink like thing hopped a bit as it was trying to hide.
