Vienna and Banana Pancakes

Kara's POV

October came and so did movie night. Knowing this was Lena's favorite season, I picked up a surprise before heading to her apartment. Landing, I changed quickly and knocked. I hope she likes these. She's said she likes almost anything apple flavored.

The door opened and I was met by a warm smile. "Kara, I was beginning to worry. Everyone else arrived about twenty minutes ago. Come in."

Entering, everyone said hello and waved. "Sorry I'm late."

"I was about to send out a search party," Alex joked.

"Yeah, okay," I laughed. Turning my attention back to the CEO, I smiled. "I stopped to get these before coming over. To say thank you for hosting tonight. I know it's been a long week." Handing Lena the bag, I tried to keep my anticipation at bay.

"You didn't have to do this." Opening the bag, green eyes brightened. "But I'm not complaining," she smiled. "Thank you." Pulling me into a warm embrace, Lena squeezed.

I love her hugs. "You're welcome." I followed the shorter woman into the kitchen.

"I refuse to share." She announced, causing Sam and Winn to laugh. "I might share with you though." A grin tugged at dark lips. "You are my favorite." After handing me a plate, Lena put the apple fritters in a Tupperware. "Get some food. I cooked enough to feed an army."

I love when she says I'm her favorite. My brow creased when I glanced towards the living room. Why is Sam smirking? And Alex. "I see this!" Loading a plate with chicken Alfredo, I breathed in the spices. "Smells delicious."

"I know it's one of your favorites." Filling a plate of her own, Lena noticed my confusion. "I didn't want you to eat alone."

She waited for me? "You didn't have to do that. I'm sure smelling all of this made you hungry."

"It did. I will admit, I grazed," she paused. "I had to make sure everything tasted right."

Joining everyone, I took a seat on the small couch. "What's the first movie?" I smiled when Lena sat beside me.

"Hocus Pocus?" Alex offered. "Can you believe Ruby's only seen it ten times?"

"I'm only eleven," the young girl laughed.

"Not an excuse!" Alex folded her arms and turned her head up playfully. "Kara and I promise not to quote the entire movie this year."

"Speak for yourself," I laughed.

"A Danvers sister tradition?" Lena asked, before taking a bite of Alfredo.

"Originally, yes. It's one of the few movies we watch every October. Now, it's more of a group tradition." One that I hope you'll be part of from now on. "There's a long list of them."

"Please, tell me Nightmare Before Christmas is one of them." Hope shone in the younger woman's eyes.

"Well, if she wasn't already part of the group, that would have solidified it," Alex laughed. "I always knew you were a little punk at heart."

"I am indeed. The music is still in my heart but the tongue ring is not." The blood drained from my face at the thought. Dark brows creased. "Kara, are you alright? You look pale." Gently, Lena placed the back of her hand on my cheek and forehead. "No fever."

"She's fine," Alex smirked. "I think you just short circuited her brain for a second. She'll reload momentarily."

"I never thought you'd have a tongue ring," I tried to keep my voice steady. I find the thought of them sexy. Maybe not so much in practice.

"I got rid of the tongue ring since I kept clicking it against my teeth." Lena scrunched her nose. "Swallowing the balls weren't fun either."

"Oh, okay." My face is so hot right now. Golly.

"Back to the original question, Nightmare Before Christmas is a double. Halloween and Christmas." Alex looked around the room. "Are we good to start?" Everyone agreed and Alex hit play.

I was unable to focus on the movie. All I could think of was Lena with a tongue ring. That explains why I hear certain bands playing from her apartment when I do my nightly rounds.

At some point, Lena took our plates to the kitchen and brought back an apple fritter. "Thank you," I smiled.

"You're welcome," she whispered.

Taking a bathroom and snack break between movies, Alex sighed. "I wish it got cold here. Or at least cool. I want to go to a pumpkin patch or an apple orchard and have crispy leaves under my feet so bad."

"I can fix that," Lena began. "My family owns a house in Western North Carolina. I've not used it in years. I let employees stay there or let it be used as an auction prize for the children's hospital fundraiser. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Everyone could come."

"Are…are you serious?" Alex stammered.

"All of us?" Winn questioned, looking around the living room.

"Or whoever can get the time off. We could leave on a Thursday after work and come back on Sunday. There's an apple orchard with an amazing bakery and pumpkin patch, a gorgeous place to go leaf looking, and a casino a few hours away." Lena smirked knowingly at Alex, Sam, and Winn. "Just don't get caught card counting. I know how your brains work. It wouldn't be intentional."

"I'd keep them in line," James laughed.

"As if you could," Alex snorted. "But, are you serious?" My sister held her breath as she waited for the CEO's response.

Lena nodded. "Yes. The boys could stay in one room, you, Sam, and Ruby in another, and Kara and I in the master. We may have to bring a couple of air mattresses unless two people want to sleep on the couches."

"I've got one air mattress," Alex offered.

"Same," Winn added.

"Then it's set," Lena smiled. "Closer to Halloween would be better. It would give the leaves time to change and everyone could put in for time off."

"Hey, Boss?" Sam laughed.

"Put in the paperwork and it'll be approved," Lena smirked. "I can't show favoritism." Sam smirked knowingly. "Respectfully, shut up."

After a second movie, everyone started gathering their things to leave. Once it was the two of us, I started picking up the living room. "You don't have to do that."

"I know." Bringing the empty cups and popcorn bowls into the kitchen, I shooed Lena away from the sink. "You cooked. I clean. You know the rules," I teased.

Drying her hands, the businesswoman smirked. "Being bossed around in my own home. Talk about making yourself comfortable," Lena teased back.

"I'm just doing what I was told." Rinsing the dishes, I loaded the dishwasher.

Mischief twinkled in green eyes. "Hmph," Lena smirked.

What was she thinking just now? Feeling heat return to my ears, I tried to ignore the shallow breaths Lena took and the slight increase of her heart rate. "It's really nice of you to invite us all. Is it the house you told me about?"

"Yes, the one with the lake behind it." Folding her arms, Lena leaned against the counter. "I love doing fall activities. I've never had a group of friends to do things with."

"You'll always have me. I'm down for all the things. Spooky season, winter season, or whatever your amazing heart desires. Just let me know at least twenty minutes in advance."

"So, no showing up to CatCo or your apartment saying, "get in. We're doing things,"?"

Shrugging, I dried my hands. "Honestly, with you, I'd still jump in the car," I smiled sheepishly.

"That's appreciated." Placing her hand on my forearm, Lena smiled. "I'm glad to have someone like you in my life."

Looking from Lena's hand to her face, I couldn't help but smile. "I know the feeling."

Lena's POV

A heroes and villains themed fundraising gala on Halloween? I'm not sure what I could go as. Everyone would expect me to go as a villain, I'm sure. Hearing a soft knock, I chuckled. Turning, I stood. "When I had that installed, it was never meant to be an entrance."

"Maybe I like to make an entrance," Supergirl grinned.

Taking a step closer, I purred. "I've noticed." Why is it so easy to flirt with her?

Swallowing hard, the Super tried not to shiver. "I saw your light on."

I always seem to have that effect on her. "I appreciate you checking in when I'm here late." Walking to my drink cart, I poured myself a glass of room temperature water. "Would you like a glass?" I offered, holding the pitcher.

"N-No, thank you." Taking a seat, I picked up the invitation and sighed. "Is there anything I can help with?"

"Not unless you have a Super suit that's more my style." Placing the invitation down, I rubbed my temple. "Don't get me wrong, the skirt and cape looks good on you. Me, not so much." My brow creased at the triumphant grin the other woman had. "What?"

"I might actually be able to help with that. Be right back." The woman was gone and back before I could form a sentence.

Holding down paperwork, I waited for the gust of wind to settle. "What's that?" I motioned towards the black fabric draped over Supergirl's arm.

"A House of El suit." Holding it up, she continued. "It may fit you."

Recognizing it, my head tilted. "That's the suit you wore when you were affected by red kryptonite before I came to town. Why did you keep it?"

Blood drained from the woman's face. "I….it was my aunt's uniform." Holding the fabric against her, much like a child holding their favorite blanket, the Super looked away. "It's the last thing besides memories that I have left."

The shake in her voice. It sounds familiar. "I'm honored," I paused. "If the invitation to wear it is still available."

"Of course. Uhm." Stepping towards a guest chair, Supergirl rubbed the back of her neck before placing the uniform over the chair. "I can't physically give or hand it to you because of Kryptonian tradition, so I'll leave it here."

Curiosity got the best of me as always. "What's the tradition?"

"If a Kryptonian gives their family crest, it's a marriage proposal. By leaving it here for you, I'm not, technically, giving it to you."

"I'm glad that's not a human tradition." I shuddered at the thought. "I would have asked a lot of people to marry me with how many L-Corp mugs or paperwork I've given out." There is one person I wouldn't mind having a relationship with though.

"I'm sure someone would be honored to become Mrs. Lena Luthor." Smiling, Supergirl tried not to fidget. "Uhm, why did you need the uniform? I never asked."

There's something behind that. She's twitchier than normal. "For a gala." I turned the invitation towards her. "It's heroes and villains themed. I refuse to go as a villain and, no offense, but I can't exactly go as Kara Danvers."

A soft blush tinted the blonde's cheeks. "I'm happy I can help."

"If I make any changes to the suit, they won't be permanent."

"I appreciate that. If there's anything else I can do to help, let me know."

"I will," I paused. "The weekend before the gala, I won't be in town. Knowing that you drop by, I wouldn't want you to worry."

"Going on vacation?"

"I am, yes." Shutting everything down, I carefully folded the suit and placed it in my bag before locking my office. "Heading east for a proper fall getaway."

Walking me to my car, Supergirl smiled. "I hope you have a great time."

"Thank you. Fly home safely."

Kara's POV

A few days passed and I was finishing my nightly patrol when I heard music coming from Lena's apartment. Hovering, I laughed realizing it was 2000's alternative punk. She really is a little punk at heart.

Flying closer, the song changed to a more recent band. Why is she cleaning at 10PM? She doesn't seem irritated so maybe she's stuck on something? Quietly, I landed on the balcony and laid on the ledge to listen. I like this band. I think it's Halestorm. This is nice. Laying here listening to music. Just being.

Feeling something being set on my stomach, my eyes shot open. Panic froze me as I met Lena's curious, and amused, expression. "Uh…" I grinned. Crap! I've been caught.

"The least you can do is clean a window or two," Lena smirked playfully. "I figured I better wake you up before you fall."

"S-sorry, Miss Luthor. I was doing my rounds and heard the music." Looking towards the spray bottle on my stomach, I laughed. "I could do the outside windows."

Before I could grab the bottle, Lena took it. "I was joking. I'm not having the Girl of Steel clean my apartment. You have better things to do."

"I wouldn't mind." It just means I could spend more time with you. A dark brow rose. Ooops. Too much like Kara. Crap.

"I appreciate the offer but I'm done now. You've been asleep for about an hour that I know of." Turning, Lena walked back inside. Sitting, I stared blankly at the back of Lena's head. "Come on." She smirked, looking back at me.

"Oh." Sliding off the edge, I entered the apartment. A light citrusy smell filled the air.

"Can I get you anything to eat or drink?" Lena placed the cleaning supplies back under the kitchen sink before washing her hands. "I've got flavored waters, a few soft drinks, apple or orange juice, and almond milk."

Leaning against the bar, I thought. "Milk?"

"So you can grow up big and strong," Lena teased. Biting my lip, I looked away. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to overstep."

"No, no. You didn't. I'm not used to people joking with me." While I'm in uniform anyway. "I'm mainly embarrassed that I fell asleep on your balcony."

Xxx

Lena's POV

She can be so bashful sometimes. "If it was anyone but you, I'd be irritated. Regular milk or chocolate?" I questioned, pulling out chocolate syrup.

The woman's face brightened. "Oh, chocolate!"

So innocent. Laughing, I began drizzling the thick liquid into each glass. "How were your rounds tonight?"

Supergirl watched as I stirred each glass of milk with a straw. She's almost hypnotized. "Good. Nothing too serious. I helped a kid find his dog who ran out the door while he was taking out trash." She paused taking the offered glass. "Thanks."

"You're welcome. That was nice of you." Taking a sip of my own chocolate milk, I studied the blonde. Curiosity getting the best of me. "What made you lay on my balcony? If it was low energy, I can get a sun lamp for you."

A soft smile curved glossed lips. "No, nothing like that. It was a slow night and I heard your music. I guess I fell asleep listening to it. I hope I didn't startle you," the Super smiled nervously.

"At first I was worried. When I walked closer and saw you were sleeping, I went back to cleaning."

"Why were you cleaning so late?" She questioned, finishing her glass.

"I wasn't ready to go to bed yet. I finished my current read in progress but knew better than to start a new one."

"That makes sense." Noticing the time, Supergirl pushed off the bar. "I better head back. It's getting late."

"I'll walk you out." Following the Super to the balcony, I chuckled. "Next time, you can come in and listen. No need to lurk."

"I'll keep that in mind," she smiled. "Goodnight, Miss Luthor."

"Goodnight, Supergirl." I watched as the blonde ascended into the night sky and took off. Standing there a moment, I smiled seeing a red blur zip by in the other direction.

Entering my apartment, I locked the balcony door and started turning off the lights. Rinsing the glasses and straw, I put them in the dishwasher. Such an odd visit. And yet, strangely familiar.

After my nightly routine, I changed and climbed into bed. Making sure my alarm was set, I decided to send Kara a quick message.

I know you're probably asleep by now but you'll never believe what happened tonight. I found Supergirl, of all people, snoozing on my balcony ledge. She was fine but it was quite random. I just wanted to tell you. Hope you slept well. See you at lunch. -L

Xxx

Kara's POV

I had to wait until morning to respond to Lena's text. Morning! Slept well. Hope you did too. Oh, wow! You've told me she stops by L-Corp on occasion but never your apartment. I hope I'm not being replaced as your favorite. Haha. -K

Leaning against the window, I sipped my coffee. It feels weird acting like I'm competing with myself. Sighing, I shook my head. This is crazy. Feeling my phone vibrate, I smiled at Lena's message.

No need to be worried. That would never happen. -L

Good to know. I definitely couldn't compete against Supergirl. See you at lunch! -K

You'd win every time. -L

"You did what?" Alex facepalmed. "I can't even with you," she laughed. Paying for our coffees, my sister sighed. "Love struck fool." She paused. "Said with love."

"I know!" I groaned, taking a sip of my drink. Sitting at a nearby table, I sighed. "I need to tell her."

"You really do. Especially, if you want to have a romantic relationship." Sitting across from me, Alex crossed her arms and leaned back. "We both need to muster up some courage."

"Sam?"

The older woman nodded. "I love spending time with her and Ruby. The lingering looks are killing me."

"Mmhmm. Don't I know it," I smiled thinking about Lena. "I want to tell her soon. I should have months ago."

"Part of that was my fault. I didn't see the side of her that you did so I didn't trust her. I do now though. That woman loves you just as much."

"You really think so?" Biting my lip, I tried not to hope too much.

"Honestly, I'm half certain this whole North Carolina trip is just to spend some time with you outside of National City. The rest of us are just along for the ride."

"Oh, gosh."

Travel day came and we met Lena at the airstrip. "Wow!" Alex exclaimed, looking at the plane.

"Wait until you see the inside!"

"Alex! Kara!" Ruby called, gaining our attention.

"Hey," we spoke in unison.

"Is everyone else here yet?" Sam hugged Alex.

"Not yet. We're still waiting for James and Winn. Lena is in the plane talking with the pilots."

As if on cue, the door opened revealing the CEO. "We're all set. Is everyone here?"

"Not yet," I called. I will never get used to seeing her in jeans.

"You're swooning," Alex whispered. Glaring towards my sister only made her grin more.

Walking down the stairs, Lena hugged me. "Glad you could make it. I was a little worried because of Snapper. Alex, Sam, Ruby," Lena smiled. Before she could say more, a final car showed up. "I bet this is them."

"Probably," I shifted.

"Sorry we're late!" Winn called from the car. "Traffic was backed up."

"But we're here," James added. Pulling their suitcases behind them, they greeted everyone.

"Alright, let's go. The pilot will give everyone flight information before take off." Placing her hand on my lower back, Lena guided me forward.

"Wow!" Winn exclaimed as he entered the cabin. Everyone else had the same reaction.

After stowing our luggage, we picked our seats. Alex, Sam, and Ruby took the couch, Winn and James took the seats on either side of a small table, while Lena and I took the seats that faced each other. "This really is incredible, Lena." Alex looked around. "Thanks for letting us fly in style."

"You're welcome," she nodded. "I'm glad to do it."

I'll always be amazed by the inside of this plane. I'm glad we were all able to get tomorrow off work. This weekend will be great. "What do you have planned for the weekend?" I asked.

"Like I said, there is an apple orchard, the parkway with amazing views, The Biltmore Estate, and plenty of other things to do. The casino is about an hour and a half away. Everything else is about a thirty minute drive from the house."

"That sounds great!" I know Lena will love the apple orchard and parkway.

"A van will be waiting for us when we land. Rental vehicles and food are already at the house. Kara helped make the grocery list." Alex snorted. "I made sure real food was on the list." Lena smirked playfully in my direction. "If it was up to you, we'd be ordering take-out all weekend."

"If I had to choose between your cooking and take-out, I'd choose your cooking every time," I smiled.

"Thank you, Kara." The brunette smiled, placing her hand on my knee. Lena's attention was drawn to the speaker overhead when we heard a beep.

"Hello, I'm Captain Miller. I'll be flying you today with the assistance of my copilot, Marshall. Today's flight will take about six hours. There is a three hour time difference so we'll arrive in North Carolina tomorrow around two in the morning. Please, stay seated until the seatbelt light goes off. We will be taking off shortly."

"Ouch," Alex cringed. "Glad a car will be waiting for us."

"What time will we get to the house?" Winn asked.

"About 2:30 in the morning. At that hour, there won't be much traffic on the roads," Lena answered.

After we were in the air, Captain Miller called Sam and Ruby to the cockpit to show Ruby around. She loved it. Winn, James, and Alex started a movie, while Lena and I talked about North Carolina. The more we talked, the more excited I got.

"If you're up for it, we can take one of the cars and go leaf looking. I think everyone else would enjoy the estate."

"Just the two of us?" Lena nodded. "I'd like that." I paused, biting my lip. "A lot actually."

"Alex may protest because of the car we'll take but she can use it another day," Lena laughed.

"What kind of car is it?"

"It's a surprise," she winked.

By the time we landed, all of us were exhausted. Sam had to carry a sleeping Ruby to the van and get situated in the back row. Thankfully, with the van came a driver. After Daniel and I loaded the suitcases, we were off.

Lena's perfume filled my senses since I was in such close proximity to her. It always relaxes me when I'm warm and in a snuggly mood. Catching her reflection in the window, she had her head leaned against the headrest. I wonder what would happen if I let my head rest on her shoulder. I've done it before and she never seemed to mind it. Granted, that was at movie night. Sinking into my seat, I leaned over and let my head rest. Her heart rate increased.

"We'll be at the house soon," Lena whispered. "A twenty minute cat nap may be all you get."

"That's okay," I mumbled. "Just resting my eyes."

Gently, Lena shook me awake. "Kara, we're here." Rubbing my eyes, I rolled my shoulders as we all got out.

Grabbing our suitcases, we walked up the small driveway. "Holy sh-uh," Alex stammered as she saw the sleek red convertible. "We seriously get to drive that around this weekend?"

"All except the day Kara and I steal it. The SUV is for when we all want to go somewhere or as a backup."

Entering through the kitchen, warmth enveloped us. Lena flipped on a few lights as she walked by. "I'll give the main tour after we've all gotten a little sleep. At the far end of the living room, there is a bedroom on either side of the bathroom. Kara and I will stay in the final room by the kitchen."

"I'll get your bags so you can take Ruby," Alex offered.

"Thank you." Sam looked at us all. "Night, guys." Soon, we all made our way towards the appointed bedrooms.

Entering ours, Lena changed in the bathroom while I changed in the bedroom. Hearing my stomach growl, I pouted. "You said there was a stocked kitchen?"

"Yes," the CEO chuckled. "I knew you'd be hungry by the time we got here. There are snacks in the kitchen or a few fig bars in the front zip pocket of my suitcase. Are you dressed?"

"Yeah," I paused. "You keep snacks in your bags too?"

Opening the bathroom door, Lena smiled softly. "I keep snacks on me at all times because I know you get hungry." Walking to her suitcase, she pulled out three flavors. "Apple cinnamon, original fig, or raspberry?"

"Original, please."

Handing me the package, Lena turned back the covers. "Which side would you like?"

"You normally sleep on the right side so I'll take the left." Once I was done, I shoved the trash in my suitcase and climbed into bed. Snuggling under the covers, I sighed. "So nice…"

"You look comfortable," Lena joked.

"I am," I smiled. "Goodnight, Lena."

"Night, Kara." Snuggling under the covers, Lena turned off the lamp.

Lena's POV

Waking hours later, I felt a warm presence behind me. Becoming more aware of my surroundings, I felt Kara's arm wrapped around me. She normally snuggles with me at night, and sometimes her arm will be draped over my hip, but never like this. She was so nervous last night in the van. Maybe if we spend some quality time together, outside of National City, I can figure out how she really feels. Hearing others start to stir, I placed my hand on hers. "Kara." I shook the blonde's hand gently. "We need to get up."

"So warm and comfy…" Kara nuzzled her face into my back.

"I'm hungry so I know you're starving." Perfect example of why you confuse me to no end. You dated Mon-El and yet snuggled like this with me. Or you'll drop everything if I call. "I can make bacon and there are sticky buns in the kitchen. Freshly made yesterday."

Kara's head popped up. "Sticky buns?"

"I knew that would get your attention," I laughed. "The way to your attention is through your stomach." Sitting up, I stretched.

"It's not the only way." Kara yawned, not fully realizing what she said. "There are a few other ways too." She rolled over and snuggled into her pillow.

"What ways are those?" She's still mostly asleep. I shouldn't ask things like that.

"Your-," realizing what she was about to divulge, the blonde shot up. Getting to her feet, Kara dashed out of the bedroom and collided with Sam.

Exiting the room, I saw the frantic blonde dragging her sister into the yard. "What happened?" Sam folded her arms. "She ran out of the bedroom like something was on her heels."

"Coffee first." Following me into the kitchen, Sam waited for an answer. Pouring a large mug of steamy liquid, I added a splash of creamer. "She was about to say something she didn't want to."

"Like what?" Sam asked, topping her mug off.

"It obviously has to deal with you." Leaning against the doorframe, James sipped his coffee. "I've seen that scramble before."

A pang of jealousy shot through me. "You've seen her when she first wakes up?"

"I fear for my life and I'm not even the one getting a death glare," Winn murmured over his coffee.

"What? No!" James paused, holding up his free hand in a truce-like fashion. "Not like that. After a really good nap, yes. First thing in the morning, no."

"You two know something." I glanced between the two men. "What is it?"

"Nope!" Winn stepped between us. "I'm invoking the friend code. While yes, you are one of us, we cannot divulge that type of information."

Seeing Alex and Kara coming towards the door, James changed the subject. "This house is great. When I saw the fireplace, I was a little worried we'd have to chop wood all weekend."

"No, the owners before us wanted a gas fireplace that would turn on and off on its own." Turning my attention to Alex and Kara, I smiled. "Coffee?"

"Please," Alex sighed. "The lake outback is gorgeous."

"It was a large selling point from what I remember." Handing each of them a mug, I continued. "So, you've seen most of the house by now. What do you think?"

"I would have loved sliding around in my socks on the wood floors," Winn laughed. "Especially since the living room is so long."

"The cobblestone floor in the sunroom, I'm assuming it's a sunroom because of the floor to ceiling windows, is a gorgeous touch. With the couch in there, you could read and sip tea or coffee on a rainy day. Perfection," Sam sighed.

"That was me anytime we came here," I laughed. "It could get quite warm during the summer though."

"I'd love that," Kara added. "So much natural light."

"I thought you would." I smiled at the reporter causing a soft blush to tint her cheeks. "Who's ready for breakfast?" Glancing at the clock on the wall, I corrected. "Brunch."

"Me!" Everyone answered.

Sam and I cooked a full breakfast of waffles, eggs, bacon, and hash browns while Ruby and Kara set the table. Sneaking into the kitchen, Kara tried to steal a piece of bacon but I lightly smacked her hand before she could grab a piece. "'My back might be to you Miss Danvers, but I know you." I smirked, glancing back at the reporter.

"But I'm hungry," Kara pouted.

Don't give in. Don't give in. Damn it, that pout. "Five minutes. Then you can eat until your heart's content."

Dramatically, Kara huffed. "Okay… I'll starve somewhere else."

"You won't starve. I promise. You may just feel like it." A loud huff came from the sunroom and I shook my head. That woman.

Finishing the last round of waffles, I cleared my throat to gain everyone's attention. "Grab your plate and get in line."

Each of us took a plate and waited. "After breakfast, can we check out the lake?" Kara asked as she stood behind me.

"Sure. I was going to see when everyone wanted to go to Granddad's. Since it gets dark early, we'll need to go on the parkway sooner than later."

"Sounds good to me," Kara smiled.

I clicked the tongs together twice after serving myself. "How many waffles?"

Once everyone was full and satisfied, James and Winn were in charge of cleaning up. Sliding into my jacket, I waited for Kara in the sunroom. "Ready to go?" The blonde asked as she joined me.

"Mmhmm." Opening the sunroom door, I allowed Kara to exit onto the small wooden porch first.

As we walked, leaves crunched under our shoes. "It's really nice here." Kara breathed in the fresh mountain air.

"It's definitely a change from the city." I tried to brush the leaves away from the stone steps as we got closer to the lake. "There used to be a metal table and chairs down by the water. I loved sitting by it and reading on warm days."

"I bet it was nice. Where are they now?"

"Probably in the storage building next to the carport." Standing shoulder to shoulder, Kara and I enjoyed the quiet rustle of the leaves around us. Taking a chance, I spoke softly. "We could come back. During the spring or summer when the weather starts to get warmer. I think the sunroom would be your favorite spot." A thicker silence hovered between us. Did I overstep too much? Yes, we've spent time alone together or spent the night at each other's place but never gone off together. The silence is killing me.

Before I could backpedal, Kara responded. "Just the two of us?"

Is that hope? "If that's what you want."

Xxx

Kara's POV

Of course that's what I want! "I'd like that. It's a big house for two people who sleep in the same room but it would be nice to get away together." Panic started to set in realizing what I said. "A-A nice change of scenery." She doesn't seem phased at all by what I said.

"It can be our little getaway."

"Yeah." Chancing a glance towards the shorter woman, my breath hitched. The gentle breeze wafted Lena's hair. The light scent of her perfume and hair products enveloped me. She looks so beautiful. I'm glad she feels comfortable enough to not wear makeup unless she wants to. "Did it ever get cold enough for the lake to freeze over?"

"No, sadly." A slight pout quivered Lena's bottom lip.

If you knew who I really was, I could freeze the lake anytime you wanted. Looking around, I pulled out my phone. "Smile."

"What?" Wrapping an arm around the woman's shoulders, I snapped a quick picture. "Kara!" She laughed. "I wasn't ready."

"That's the best part. Let's take another. One that you're ready for." A few selfies later, I got one we were both happy with. "Take a seat on the stone steps. The lake and leaves as a background will look great!"

Doing as I asked, Lena ran a hand through her hair and smiled. She laughed when I started crouching or kneeling to get different angles. "You don't have…too late."

"Are you ready to go back in?" I held out my hand to help her up.

"Yes." Pulling herself upwards, Lena spun me, pulled me close, wrapped her arms around my chest, and let her chin rest on my shoulder all in one swift motion. "One more." Smiling, I took a final picture. I almost whined when Lena let go of me. I want to be back in her arms. Even if it's purely platonic. "Now, I'm ready."

"O-Okay," I laughed. Looking back at the house, everyone seemed to scatter. Were they trying to watch us?

Not soon after we got back to the house, Lena and I left in the convertible. "When we get on the parkway, would you like to put the top down? It might get a little chilly."

"Sure!" I pulled my hair into a bun while Lena braided hers. Rao. "You look really nice," I smiled sheepishly.

Green eyes studied me for a moment. "Thank you. I don't get to braid my hair too often since I work so much." Parking, Lena unlatched a hook on her side and reached across to unlatch a second on my side. With the push of a button, the roof started to fold back on itself. "There are a few areas we can pull off and take pictures."

"Sounds great. I am in your capable hands."

"You are indeed," she purred. Flashing me a mischievous grin, Lena revved the engine.

Over the next few hours, we would drive for a while, stop at a pull off, take pictures, and move onto the next area. When the sun started to set, Lena pulled into an area that was mostly empty. "Hungry?" She asked, turning off the car.

"Getting there," I pouted. "I'm having a really good time. I was going to wait until we got back to eat."

"Good thing I came prepared." Popping the small trunk, Lena retrieved a thermal bag and blanket. "Come on," she smiled.

Getting out, I watched as the CEO spread the blanket out and sat. "You brought dinner?"

"Not dinner. Mainly a few sandwiches, snacks, and drinks." Unloading the bag, Lena placed a sandwich and snacks in front of me. "I knew you'd get hungry and the mountain sunsets are gorgeous."

Not as gorgeous as you. "Thank you for doing this." My chest swelled at Lena's thoughtfulness.

Opening her drink, Lena took a long sip. "I hope you don't mind that I've basically stolen you all day."

"Not at all. I'm having a wonderful time." Biting into the sandwich, I hummed. "Ham, pepperoni, and cheddar." I noticed the bag of chips. "With nacho doritos to put on top? My favorite!" My brow creased. "How did you know?"

"You put them on your sandwich once in my office and said it was your favorite because of the crunch."

Lena remembers little details about me like I do her? "Thank you." I tried not to stare as the sunset made Lena's pale skin glow. With her hair pulled back, the sharpness of her jawline was visible. I had traced it with my eyes before but seeing the slight pulsing of her neck between the muscles as she chewed put me in a trance. I want to kiss her neck, her jaw, her lips, her face, all of her. Spending time alone like this makes these urges almost too much to bear.

"Let me see your phone." Handing over the device, Lena moved closer. Flipping to the front facing camera, she snapped a picture. "We'll have to get a few more before the sun fully sets. A picture can never do a memory justice but it's still nice to have."

Arriving back at the house, my stomach fell. My alone time with Lena is ending. We had such a perfect day. I love spending time with everyone else too but there's something different between us now. I need to tell Lena the truth.

Placing her hand on mine, Lena squeezed. "Is everything alright?"

"Y-Yeah." I looked down at our hands. Biting my lip, I met warm eyes. "Today was…amazing."

"I had a good time with you too," Lena smiled softly.

Kiss her. Just do it. Before my impulsive thoughts won, the carport light turned on. Tearing my eyes away, I noticed Alex at the door. "I guess we've been caught."

Glancing behind her, Lena sighed. "I guess so."

Entering the house, I could feel Lena's disappointment and it broke my heart. "I'll empty the bag." With a nod, Lena went into the living room. Staying in the kitchen, I leaned against the counter. Covering my head, I clenched my fists. Why am I such a coward? She was right there!

"Did something happen?" Alex whispered as she opened the fridge.

"I think it's what didn't happen." Rubbing my face, I sighed. "We had such a good time today. There were so many times I almost told her everything."

"Everything?" Alex's brow rose. I nodded. "Damn."

"I want to tell her how I feel and the truth. I'm just so scared of losing her."

Pulling me into a tight hug, Alex squeezed. "If she turns her back on you after you tell her, she's not worth your time."

"Thanks." I cleared my throat. "How's your day been? I was kind of kidnapped."

"It was good. We explored Main Street and those little shops. After that, the Biltmore Estate. Ruby loved walking the house and exploring the gardens. When we came back, Sam and I raked up the leaves so Ruby could jump in them like we did as kids."

Smirking, I folded my arms. "You played in them too, didn't you?"

"I did nothing of the sort," Alex huffed.

"Do you like her?" I asked, making myself some hot chocolate and Lena a cup of tea.

"Do you like Lena?" Alex retorted.

Sticking my tongue out, I took both mugs into the living room. "Hey, guys." Glancing around, I frowned. "Where's Lena?"

"Bedroom," Sam answered. "I think she'll be out shortly. We were about to start Nightmare Before Christmas."

"Oh, okay."

"How much popcorn should I make?" Winn made his way towards the kitchen. All of us wanted some. "So, basically the entire box. Got it."

Hearing the bedroom door open, I smiled. "Tea?"

Confused, Lena took the offered mug. "How did you make this? They don't sell it at grocery stores here and I forgot to pack some."

"You're not the only one who keeps stock of certain staples," I grinned. "Winn is making popcorn for the movie. Do you want anything from the kitchen?"

"I think I'm set with tea." Lena smiled, sipping the steamy liquid. "Perfect."

Lena's POV

Once again, I woke to Kara snuggling against me. Since no one else was awake, I turned to my back and laid there peacefully. Shifting, Kara draped her arm over my stomach. Looking down at the blonde, I resisted the urge to brush hair away from her face. You make it so hard not to kiss you awake. I love the alone time we've had but it's also torture. I wanted to kiss you at least four times yesterday. Worst part is, I think you wanted it too.

After breakfast, we loaded into the SUV and made our way to the apple orchard. As always, Kara sat beside me. When she wasn't looking, Sam would smirk knowingly in the rear view mirror as she drove. I would smirk back when her eyes would linger on Alex.

The parking lot was full of cars. Families and friends were in a zigzagged line waiting to checkout at the bakery or to get their baskets to pick apples.

Parking, Sam turned to the group. "Should we split up or do things together?" Part of me hoped the census would be separate groups. "I know Ruby is eyeing the pumpkins already," she chuckled.

"I really want cider doughnuts and a slushy," Kara grinned. "Maybe check things out and pick apples together afterwards?"

"Sounds good," everyone agreed.

At first, we all went to look at the homemade jams and honey that lined the right side of the barn store. After that, Kara and I stayed in the bakery while everyone else went to the pumpkin area. Picking out some jams, preserves, and honey, we went to look at the baked goods.

Ultimately, we decided to split a large apple cider slushy and a dozen small cider doughnuts. The turnovers would be for later. It warmed my heart seeing how happy Kara was. She loved the doughnuts more than anything. I'll have to make a note to get these each year. Taking a sip of the slushy, I thought of how far we've come as friends. Last year, there was no way we would share a drink or sleep in the same bed. Now, it feels odd not doing so when we're alone.

Slumping onto the bench opposite us, Sam groaned. "Lena have you -," she eyed Kara.

"She's in her happy doughnut place." I waved, glancing at the blonde who was currently midbite watching James and Winn help load pumpkins for a family. "You can speak freely."

"She does love food." The brunette shook her head. "I'm so frustrated. I'm walking the line between "I want to love you and potentially build a life with you" and "I want you in my bed and I will let you do whatever the hell you want to me. Have you ever felt that way about someone?"

"Yes," Kara answered. Turning my gaze towards the blonde, it dawned on her that she answered the question out loud.

"Is that so?" Sam grinned knowingly.

"What?" Kara looked between me and Sam. "I…um…I think I hear Alex calling me." Spinning, the reporter ran towards the bakery.

"Girl said the silent part out loud and kicked up gravel trying to avoid an awkward conversation," Sam chuckled. "She's definitely into you."

"There's no guarantee she was thinking of me. Remember, she's only dated men."

"Lena, when she felt you shift towards her, the blood drained from her face," Sam paused. "I only dated men until I didn't."

I toyed mindlessly with a napkin. She has a point. "You're falling for one sister and I'm falling for the other," I chuckled.

"You fell for her long before I came along," Sam smirked.

Glaring, I tried to change the subject. "Has anything happened between you and Alex yet?"

"Besides lingering looks and long hugs, no." Sam ran a hand through her hair. "There's a double feature tonight that I'm taking Ruby to. I was going to invite Alex. I think James and Winn want to check out the casino you mentioned." She paused, a grin tugging at her lips. "Which means, you and Kara will have the whole house to yourselves for hours."

"Kara said she wants to come back here," I paused. "Just the two of us."

"Oh?" A dark brow rose. "When did she say that?"

"When we stood by the lake." Taking a bite of a doughnut, I realized why Kara liked them so much.

"Before all of the cutesy selfies and photoshoot?" Sam grinned. "Kara looked so disappointed when you let go of her after the last picture."

"You were spying on us?"

"Some of the group was. I wasn't. I wouldn't dare invade your personal-," I smirked at the brunette. "Fine. All of us were." I sighed, pinching the bridge of my nose. "If it helps, we're all, even James and Winn, cheering for you."

"Really?" Sam nodded.

"How are the doughnuts?" Alex asked as she and Ruby walked up.

"Pretty good." Noticing a bag in Ruby's hand, I smiled. "What did you get?"

"A caramel apple for later," Ruby answered.

Turning, Sam let out a whistle that turned most heads. She waved James and Winn over when they met her gaze. "Works every time. Now, if it would only work on Kara."

"I can guarantee you she heard that," Alex smirked. "Where is she anyway?"

"She ran off towards the bakery after admitting something."

"Admitting what…" The agent's voice trailed.

Why did she suddenly become so nervous? "It doesn't matter. Should we do the self-pick or pre-picked apples?"

"Pre," everyone answered.

Gathering our things, we made our way towards the bakery where mountains of pre-picked, packaged apples were set out. Seeing the blonde staring off towards the apple trees, I started to step only for Alex to place a hand on my shoulder. "I got it."

Kara's POV

Alex stood beside me looking into the distance. "Looks like you've got a lot on your mind," she paused. "Lena's worried."

"What about? I'm the one who said something stupid."

"Because you ran off and haven't looked at her since. She's absolutely brilliant but sensitive to rejection."

"I know," I sighed. "It's nothing she did at all. I'm worried she'll reject me."

"What did you say?"

"Sam said she's walking the line between "she wants to love someone and potentially build a life with them" and "she wants said person in her bed and will let them do whatever they want to her." She asked if Lena knew that type of person. Without realizing it, I answered."

My sister's heart rate spiked. "You said "yes," didn't you?" I groaned. "Oh, boy." Alex laughed. "We're a pair of love struck fools."

"What are you going to do with this new information? Sam is clearly talking about you."

Alex was quiet for a few minutes before answering. "Take another chance. I've always wanted to be a mom and I really like Sam. She and Ruby make me happy."

"They're staring at us, aren't they? I can feel it."

"Oh, most definitely." Wrapping an arm around my shoulders, Alex pulled me close. "You can't be happy without risks." Throwing my head back, I groaned. "Let's go."

Later that evening, Alex, Sam, and Ruby went to the movies while James and Winn went to the casino. This left Lena and I alone in the house. While it wasn't uncomfortable, there was something in the air between us. "I've had a lot of fun this weekend. I hate that we have to leave tomorrow."

"There's nothing stopping us from coming back." Handing me a cup of tea, Lena took a seat on the opposite side of the couch. "I hope you like the tea."

"I've liked most things you've had me try." Temperature checking the steamy liquid, I blew on it. "Besides kale." My nose scrunched remembering the foul tasting vegetable.

"And yet, you are every bite." Lena sipped her tea. "I've always liked this place. I just rarely had a reason to come."

Sipping my own tea, I stretched my legs towards the CEO. "This okay?"

"As long as you don't mind me doing the same," she chuckled. "I was about to stretch out too."

"Go ahead." I took another sip. "I like this."

"Another win. I normally have coffee in the morning and wind down at night with tea." Resting her legs over mine, Lena scrolled through her phone. "Music? Just something mellow and relaxing."

"Sure." Music filled the house as the fireplace kicked on. "I thought it was getting cool in here." I motioned towards the fire.

Sipping her tea, Lena sighed. "One more day of freedom before we all get back to work. Luckily, I was just an invitee to the Halloween gala next weekend. All I have to do is show up with a costume and a check."

"Thank you again for the invite. It's going to be fun. I know the guys keep talking about their costumes. I'm not sure what I'm wearing yet."

"You're running out of time," Lena teased. "I'm glad you enjoy going to events. It helps having you there with me."

"I always enjoy doing things with you." Placing my mug on the coffee table, I laughed at the song that played. "Is this why you made banana pancakes?"

"When I first heard the song, yes. Now, it's because I like them."

As we listened, I couldn't help but think about Lena and I. I'd love to lay in bed with her all day when it rains. Or ignoring the outside world and making pancakes. I want to be hers. Fidgeting with my watch, I stared at the fireplace. "At the gala, will there be dancing?"

Finishing her tea, Lena placed the empty mug beside mine. "Since this is a themed one, possibly. Why?"

Great. "I don't know how to dance."

"I can teach you," she paused. "No one else is here so there's no pressure." Standing, Lena held out her hand as the next song started.

Taking the offered hand, I was pulled to my feet with ease. "I don't know where to-," my voice trailed as Lena placed one of my hands on her hip, she held my other, and placed her hand on my hip. Oh, golly. If she twitches her thumb I'm a goner.

"For now, just sway side to side. If I step towards you, like this," she did. "Step back. Or if I step back, you step forward."

"Oh, okay." As the music played, I could feel myself getting lost in the smell of Lena's perfume. "I like this song," I whispered.

"It's one of my favorites. It reminds me to take a breath sometimes. That no matter what I want to do with my life, I can't do it all." Glancing down to our feet, Lena spoke softly. "Don't." I met her gaze. "Don't think. Just listen to the music and what your body is telling you to do."

I'm not sure where the words came from but I was unable to stop them. "Are you listening to what your body wants to do?"

"No." Pain shown in Lena's green eyes.

I never knew a single word could express so much. "Why not?"

"Because," Lena spun me under her arm. "What I want could ruin everything."

Holding her gaze, I whispered. "What do you want?" I began to wonder if she heard me until I saw Lena glancing to my lips.

"To kiss someone."

"Who?" My voice was almost inaudible.

Stepping closer, Lena began to close the distance between us. As I felt her breath on my lips, a car door closed. Stepping back, the younger woman cleared her throat and turned off the music. The smell of smoke entered the house.

"Hey, guys!" My voice cracked. "Win anything big?"

"A couple hundred bucks," Winn grinned. "After a while, I went to games of chance."

"I won zip," James sighed. "We did fill up on free soda. So, it evened out."

"That's a lot of soda," I murmured.

Sam entered, carrying a sleeping Ruby in her arms. Alex wasn't far behind. "She loved the double feature of Halloweentown and all of the cosplayers. I'm going to put her to bed and turn in for the night."

Alex waited until Sam and Ruby were gone before speaking. "How was your night?"

"Good." It finally dawned on me that I had grabbed Lena's wrist when she stepped back and never let go. "We were heading to bed when you pulled in."

"Alright," Alex studied us. "Goodnight then."

Once all of the nightly greetings were done with, Lena and I entered our room. "Kara, I can sleep in the living room if-,"

"Don't," I blurted. "Please." Pulling back the covers, I bit my lip. "I don't want you to sleep out there." With a nod, Lena slid between the sheets and made herself comfortable. My stomach dropped when she kept her back to me. "Goodnight, Lena."

"Goodnight, Kara."

Lena's POV

I woke to Kara snuggled behind me, her hand no longer had a vice on my shirt. It looks like she just let go not too long ago. Carefully, I got out of bed and crept out of the bedroom.

Entering the kitchen, I made coffee and took it to the sunroom. The cobblestone was warm under my feet from the morning sun. Standing in a ray of warmth, I thought about last night.

"What happened?" I jumped at Sam's voice. "Sorry," she murmured.

Glancing back at the brunette sitting comfortably on the small couch, I sighed. "I misread things." I took a long sip of steamy liquid.

"How so?"

"I tried to kiss her. We almost did." I held my mug as if it was a lifeline. "I stepped back when we heard everyone get back."

"That explains the deer in the headlights look you both had," Sam paused. "She clearly didn't want you going anywhere. Not with that grip."

"I'm so confused." Running a hand through my hair, I sighed. "Sometimes I swear she feels the same way. Others, I don't know."

"That woman is head over heels for you. All of us can see it." Sam paused, studying me. "I thought you two were a couple at first. This whole weekend has basically been a gay Hallmark movie." I scoffed. "The two of you went off on your own at the apple orchard, you share food and drinks all the time, you went leaf looking alone together, and we saw the two of you by the water."

Turning, I tried to keep my emotions in check. "What am I supposed to do now?"

"Give her time. Unlike us, she seems to be scared of loving another woman."

Why is she always the voice of reason? Kara is very skittish. "How are things going between you and Alex?" I took a sip of coffee.

"Well, actually," Sam smiled softly. "I sat between her and Ruby last night and we held hands. She took my hand," Sam added quickly. "Alex makes me happy and Ruby loves her."

"Do you think anything will come from this weekend?"

"Yes," Sam nodded. "I'm going to ask Alex out once we get back. I would have kissed her last night if Ruby wasn't in the room."

"I'm happy for you," I smiled. My chest ached. I want to kiss Kara. Hold her hand. Be more than friends.

"I overheard workers at the orchard talking about the three gay couples who came as a group." My brow creased. "They were talking about us."

I couldn't help but laugh. "I mean, there could be two lesbian couples out of the group easily. I know Alex wants kids. And you're right, Ruby loves her." Hearing the bedroom door open, our conversation stopped.

"Lena?" Kara yawned, entering the living room.

"I'm in here. There's coffee in the pot and I set out a mug for you." I glared at Sam who was trying not to laugh.

"Thank you," she called.

"The domesticity, I swear," Sam whispered. Waving her hand, the brunette got up. "I can't. I need more coffee."

Entering the sunroom, Kara spoke. "Oh. Morning, Sam."

"Morning, Kara. She's all yours."

I stiffened at the woman's words. Keeping my position, I looked out at the leaf covered yard. "Sleep well?"

"For the most part," Kara murmured. She took a sip of coffee. "I was worried that you left when I woke up alone."

"I'm everyone's ride. I wouldn't abandon you." Does she actually think I would do such a thing?

"I never thought you would. We all know when and where to meet the plane. I thought you might have left a note saying you went back early."

The sadness in her voice is killing me. Before I could respond, Sam chimed in. "To be fair, it could have gone down that way. You're a powerful woman, Lena."

"Can we have some privacy?" I glared at the other woman as she passed by.

"I was going to wake my daughter. There's only one way to get to the bedroom."

Sighing, I finished my coffee. "I still wouldn't have done that." Not anymore. Not since you came along. Not like I would have had the chance. You held my shirt all night.

"I know that look. What were you just thinking?" Kara pried gently.

"I said I would never lie to you so I'm pleading the fifth." Turning towards the blonde, I attempted to smile. "Now, what would you like for breakfast?"

"Banana pancakes?"

Kara's POV

There was tension between Lena and I the entire flight home. At the air strip, I helped unload suitcases. I wanted to hug Lena before Alex and I left, but never got the chance. My heart sank as we pulled onto the main road and I saw Lena's car behind us.

"You didn't tell her, did you?" Alex asked quietly.

"No," I sighed. Leaning my head against the window, I tried not to let my voice shake. "I should have. She almost kissed me last night."

"She did?" I nodded. "What stopped her?"

"A car door. One closed and she stepped back."

"Oh…" Alex's voice trailed off. "Sorry about that."

"I think I should tell Lena everything first."

"If there's anything I can do, let me know."

"Thanks, Alex. Sadly, I think this is something I have to figure out on my own."

Xxx

Over the next few days, I tried to think of ways to tell Lena the truth. Everytime I went to her apartment or flew by her office, Lillian's words played through my mind. Each time, I would lose my nerve and leave. When Lena would call or text, I didn't have the heart to answer. She needs to hear it from me face to face.

The day before Halloween, I finished my costume. Standing back, I looked myself over in the mirror. This actually doesn't look half bad. Taking a picture, I sent it to Alex.

You're, literally, her knight in shining chain mail. How fitting. Have you answered her calls yet? -A

No…. -K

Kara, you need to. Sam says Lena's been worried and miserable since we got back. -A

I'm scared… -K

I know. -A

That night, I did my rounds. Surprisingly, there was no crime. Not even kids trespassing.

Landing on a nearby building, I sat staring at Lena's building. Her breathing and heart rate are different. Shallower. Alex said she's been miserable. It's all because of me. Pulling out my phone, I thumbed through all of the pictures we've taken together over the years. I really need to bite the bullet and tell her the truth before it's too late. There's a chance she could forgive me for not telling her yet. But that might change the longer I wait.

Xxx

Lena's POV

The night before the gala, I sat in my office scrolling through the pictures that were taken over the weekend. I've not heard from Kara since we arrived back in National City. She's not returned any of my calls or messages. My heart sank. I've ruined everything. Leaning forward, a quiet sob escaped my throat.

A gust of wind blew into my office. "Lena, I heard-,"

"Not now, Supergirl." Clearing my throat, I tried to swallow the painful lump that had formed.

"You're upset…" She began timidly. "With Kara?"

Flipping my phone face down, I turned my back to the superhero. "I'm more upset with myself." Damn it. Now that Kara has chipped away at my walls, I can't shut people out as easily if I care about them.

"Did something happen on your trip?"

"Supergirl, you're busy. I'm not going to drag you into my personal life."

"Lena, I heard your sob and dropped everything trying to get here. I'm already invested in your personal life." Placing a strong hand on the back of my chair, she turned me. "Tell me. Maybe I can help?" She pleaded.

Why can I not say no to this woman? "I tried to kiss Kara. I read everything incorrectly and ruined the best thing that's ever happened to me. She's not returned any of my calls or texts since we got back."

"I don't think you misread anything."

My brow rose. "Why do you think that?" I scoffed. "Am I a normal topic of conversation between the two of you?"

"You are actually," Supergirl chose her words carefully. "She's terrified."

"Of what?" I followed the Super onto the balcony.

"That if she allows herself to love you the way she wants, that Vienna and banana pancakes will become just a wonderful memory."

"Why would it become a memory? I, clearly, have feelings for her. From what you just said, it sounds like she does too."

Casting her gaze downwards, something changed in the superhero. "Because I've been keeping something from you."

That's Kara's tone. The one she used Sunday morning. Stepping into the woman's personal space, I tilted her chin upwards. Stormy blue eyes rimmed with tears stared back at me. "Kara," I choked.

"I'm so sorry." A tear rolled down the blonde's cheek. "I'll just go." Unable to speak, I grabbed the end of Kara's cape. "Lena?" Wrapping the fabric around my arm, I walked back into my office. Pulling the woman behind me. "Wha-okay." Stumbling backwards, the Super tried to gain her footing.

Releasing the fabric, I turned the puzzled Kryptonian towards me. There is so much I want to say but I have no idea where to start. "Were you ever going to tell me?"

"Yes," she whispered.

"When?"

"I planned to last weekend. Then when we danced and you almost kissed me, my brain short circuited and I've been trying to figure out a way to tell you ever since. I heard you sob and nothing besides seeing you and making you feel better mattered to me."

Closing the distance between us, I tangled my hands in blonde locks and kissed the Kryptonian. After the shock passed, strong hands found purchase on my hips. Letting my forehead rest against hers, I smiled. "What's your brain doing now?"

Grinning, a choked laugh escaped the blonde. "I love you." Realizing what she said, Kara stepped back and covered her mouth. "Oh, gosh. Lena, I'm-,"

"I love you too." Cupping the woman's cheek, I smiled. "After your rounds, meet me at my place. Banana pancakes will be waiting."

Flipping the final pancake, I heard a knock on my door. Turning the stove off, I went to greet a, most likely, very skittish Kara. "Hey, come in." Taking the reporter's hand, I ushered her over the threshold.

"You actually made banana pancakes?" She laughed.

"I told you I would have them waiting." Tucking a hair behind Kara's ear, I cupped her cheek. "They won't become memories. I love you too. I've wanted to kiss you for so long. There were at least seven times this past weekend alone."

"R-Really?" Blue eyes shined.

"I wanted to spend some time together, away from the stress of National City, to see if my suspicions were correct."

A light blush tinted the woman's cheeks. "I wanted to kiss you a lot too," her voice trailed. "At the lake, on the parkway, in the car before Alex flipped on the light, as we danced, and that's just this weekend. Before that, I can't even count."

Hearing Kara's stomach growl, I made my way into the kitchen. "Let's eat and talk."

Filling her plate, Kara smiled. "Besides pot stickers, these might be another favorite food."

My brow rose in question. "More than a fresh, warm sticky bun?"

Scrunching her nose, Kara thought. "Maybe right below that." Taking our seats at the table, the Super took a bite. "So fluffy."

"I'm glad you enjoy them." I'm so curious. There are so many things I want to ask. Not only about us but about her past too.

"I know that look," Kara teased. "You have a million questions you're dying to ask."

"You know me so well," I smirked playfully. "I don't want to bombard you with them all at once."

"All of the favores, special dinners, gala/press invites, and lingering touches… What were they? All friendship or hints of something more?"

"Both. At the beginning, obviously, to build a friendship but it quickly became an excuse to spend time with you." I paused, biting my lip. "Especially, when you were dating Mon-El and he was being an asshole. I'll admit, I was jealous of him."

"He was jealous of you." A nervous laugh escaped the woman's throat. "It became increasingly harder to keep a difference between how Kara Danvers and Supergirl acted around you. I could have sworn when you saw my face on the ship that the cape was out of the bag."

"The red dress?" I grinned. "I think you would have liked the black one I wore beforehand better." Her face is so red.

"When you were irritated at Supergirl for lining the atmosphere with lead, ultimately sending Mon-El away, I wanted to tell you then but your mother was there." Kara shrugged, taking another bite of her pancakes. "Granted, she already knew the truth by then. I was scared that she would be right. I love you so much that I'd rather have you as a friend than nothing at all. It's selfish because I saw all of the lingering looks and thought they could be feelings but I was too scared."

"I understand. I felt the same way. But the more time we spend together the harder only having you as a friend becomes." Taking Kara's hand, I squeezed. "I want to be with you but I'm afraid. You're my best friend and I don't want to lose you. But I also can't let the "what ifs" control me."

"I want that too," she smiled. "Especially now that you've kissed me. I reeeeaaallllyyyy want to do it again," Kara grinned. "If we do become a couple, I won't second guess myself every time I want to cuddle."

I couldn't help but laugh. "You definitely like to do that. Let's move to the couch." In an instant, everything had been cleaned up and put away. "That might take a little time to get used to." I paused, remembering a bottle of wine Kara gifted me. "The wine, you actually got that from Paris, didn't you?" All the blonde did was grin. "And the pastries."

"The sausages and tea were from Dublin."

Shaking my head, I took a seat on the couch bringing the older woman down with me. "I think Sam was right. We've been acting like a couple without realizing it."

"Alex said the same thing," Kara laughed.

Tilting Kara's chin, I smiled. "Then maybe we should make it official." Dipping my head, I finally kissed Kara like I wanted to so many times before.

Kara's POV

As I finished getting dressed, I slid my prop sword into my belt. I look like I stepped out of an episode of Merlin. Wrapping my red cloak over my shoulders, I pinned it over the left side of my chest. Hearing a light knock, I made my way through the apartment.

Opening the door, Alex's eyes grew. "Wow. You look great. Lena's going to love it."

"Thanks!" I glanced at the name tag Alex wore. "Lexi Grey."

Snorting, Alex rolled her eyes. "Hey, I look the part and did medical research in Seattle. Might as well use the uncanny resemblance to my advantage. How did last night go? I couldn't exactly ask you at the D.E.O. earlier."

"She knows everything now," I smiled. "We decided to officially date."

"Thank God," Alex laughed. "I know that's a weight off your shoulders."

"It really is. How was Trick or Treating with Ruby and Sam?"

"Good. We went to the rich part of town where they give out king sized candy bars."

"Nice!"

"Ready to go? The car is waiting."

"Yup." Sliding my phone, keys, and a small wallet into my leather pouch, I made sure it was secured to my belt before leaving.

We met James and Winn outside the entrance. "Ooooh!" They clapped. "You look awesome, Kara!"

Bowing slightly, I smiled. "Thank you." Looking over the two men, I laughed. "Of course you'd both be superheroes."

"Don't hate on Iron Man," Winn smiled as the robotic face shield lowered. "This suit is awesome!"

Rubbing the back of my head, I grinned nervously. "I recognize the outfit from Saturday morning cartoons but I don't remember who."

"Static Shock. It came on after Yu-Gi-Oh." James answered. "He rode the electric disc."

"Oh, right! Are we ready to go in?" Everyone nodded. Leading the way, we presented our tickets and gave our donations.

Walking into the main area was like walking into a Comic convention for the rich and famous. Everyone was dressed like their favorite superheroes or villains. It was a stark difference from the other galas I have been to.

"If it isn't my loyal knight," Lena purred as she walked up.

"Of course, M'lady." I knelt before the brunette with a smile. "I am here to serve."

"Oh, God," Alex scoffed. "I'm going to barf."

"You won't be saying that when you see Sam," Lena grinned knowingly. "You all look excellent."

"Thanks!" They answered.

"The suit turned out great, Winn." Lena looked over each piece of the armor. "Food is to the left, the auction is to the right. There will be a 50/50 raffle too."

As the group disbanded, I stuck behind. Golly. She looks amazing in Astra's uniform. It fits her perfectly.

"See something you like?" Lena purred. "I know I do." Stealthily, the CEO slid her hand under my cloak and grabbed my butt causing me to squeak.

Laughing nervously, I shivered seeing green eyes taking me in. "Yyyyyeeeaaahhh." Biting my lip, I smiled sheepishly. "You look really nice."

"Thank you. You do too." Holding out her arm, Lena smiled. "Shall we take this gala by storm?"

Wrapping my arm through Lena's I beamed. "With you on my side, how could we not?"

Like promised, Lena and I took a long weekend vacation back to North Carolina during the late spring/early summer. Arriving, we entered the spacious house with groceries in hand. "You were right about the natural light!" I exclaimed, putting down my load of groceries.

"I knew you'd like it." Smiling, Lena started unpacking the refrigerated items. "Check out the sunroom. That's going to be your favorite."

"My favorite room is whatever room you're in," I grinned.

Shaking her head, Lena smirked playfully. "Go." She pointed. "I'll put this away and prepare dinner. We can eat it by the lake."

"Okay!"

Entering the sunroom, warmth radiated off of the stones. "Wow…"

"Told you," Lena called.

Soaking up the sun, I looked across the yard. The sun's rays twinkled off of the water's surface like diamonds. This is definitely our getaway.

Popping her head in, Lena chuckled. "Sorry to cut your sun time short but will you help me take stuff down?"

"Of course."

Once everything was set up by the lake, we took a seat on the blanket. "It really is nice here during the spring/early summer."

"I can handle the heat until August. My Irish skin isn't cut out for anything past July." Taking a bite of her sandwich, Lena took in her surroundings. "I'm really glad you felt the same way. The entire time we were here last fall, I kept picturing us here as a couple."

"I did too. Especially after our picnic on the parkway," I paused. "I enjoy simple things like this more than anything else."

"I'm glad." Taking a sip of her drink, Lena cupped my cheek. "I love you." Closing the gap between us, the CEO pressed a soft kiss to my lips.

"I love you too." Taking a bite of my sub, I hummed. "I'm glad this time is more than two days."

"Me too. Especially, since we have the entire house to ourselves," Lena purred.
