The Future is ours

Supergirl just stands there with the same look on her face as she did when Zod told her how Kal-El died. It was the same look Bruce had the night of his parents death. The same look The Flash had when he first found Supergirl dead in the fight against the Kryptonains. Zod stared into Supergirl's eyes and saw a deeply wounded soul, but there was something else behind the eyes of Supergirl as she stared at the motionless Flash on the ground turning her head back to Zod. Zod saw Supergirl's face contort to unspeakable rage.
Supergirl's eyes glowed red. Supergirl let out a deafening scream, firing her heat vision at Zod who brought up his hands to block the beam as it pushed him back across the ground. The Batwing made one last pass making sure the last of the Kryptonian sky power was down as he scanned the ground below looking for Supergirl and Zod.
Supergirl flew at Zod uppercutting him so hard the ground broke under them, but due to the weight of his armor Zod only lifted a few feet in the air before landing on his feet with ease. Supergirl flew in close spartan, kicking him so hard in the chest he was flung back across the battlefield slamming his back into a down Kryptonian ship.
Zod ricochets off the hull of the ship into the ground. Supergirl leaps across the battlefield in her rage landing violently on the ground gnashing her teeth and making a mean growling sound. Supergirl walks up to Zod in all her furious rage; she casually grabs a long piece of twisted metal from the flaming wreckage around her.
Zod struggles to get to his feet lifting his head up to see a very angry Supergirl power walking menacingly to him with a dark look dragging the fragmented twisted piece of metal wreckage across the ground breaking it up as she goes by. No sooner did Zod get to his feet than Supergirl swung the long piece of metal wreckage like a bat smacking Zod into the hull of the wrecked ship. She swung it at him again and again causing Zod to get stuck and further indented into the side of the wrecked ship.
With each powerful strike Supergirl broke the sound barrier but no matter how many times she kept hitting him Zod kept moving trying to pry himself from the wreckage. Supergirl was starting to get worse with each hit. No matter how hard she seemed to hit him Zod's armor absorbed nearly all the damage and full force blows that would have killed a mere man a thousand times over.
Supergirl realized in that moment Batman was right. She was getting worn down too fast where Zod looked like he had not even broken a sweat. At this rate Supergirl realized if this fight continued she was going to die. Despite that fact Supergirl had an indomitable will. She refused to accept defeat and she refused to let this world die at the hands of Zod and her people.
Supergirl brought the metal over her head and slammed it in the face of Zod, engraving his entire body into the hull of the ship before dropping the long twisted metal beam. Supergirl's arms dangled to her sides as she fell to hands and knees physically exhausted. The Batwing was the sky a fair distance away when Batman spotted Supergirl and just a few feet in front of her engraved into the hull of the wrecked ship Zod.
"I have eyes on Zod. I'm going after Zod." Batman said over the radio.
Supergirl heard him via the earpiece in her ear, but that's not all she heard. She could hear the cries of thousands of people in Metropolis who were unlucky to flee from the expanding gravity field as they are lifted up thousands of feet in the air then violently slammed into the pavement like squashed bug on a sidewalk with broken glass from the cars and buildings that have been crushed like beer cans littering Metropolis for blocks.
Supergirl could not only hear it all she could imagine the macabre horror of it all in her head. Her promise to save this world she made to Nora Allen echoes in the back of her mind. Supergirl takes a breath forcing herself to her feet as she staggers forth to Zod's body.
This madness needed to end Supergirl thought to herself hearing another booming sound coming from Metropolis as hundreds even thousands more people were splattered across the streets like it was raining humans. Supergirl hears the buildings giving way and cars being crushed by the expanding gravity field. What haunted her the most was the cries of a thousand people suddenly going silent.
Supergirl approached the seemingly unconscious Zod, prying his right hand from the hull, sliding back the gauntlet to reveal the wrist computer that controlled the World Forger and the World Engine. Supergirl hit a few keys on the display but right as she was about to shut it all down she felt a violent push as she slid down to one knee.
Supergirl looks over her shoulder to see The Flash had pushed her ducking down only to have his right shoulder impaled by Zod's wrist blade as he pried himself from the wreckage like an unkillable monster. Supergirl's eyes widened in horror as The Flash coughed up some blood. The Flash looks over at the wrist tapping the last button Supergirl failed to push, shutting down the World Engine and the World Forger.
Zod looked deeply annoyed forcing himself from the wreckage and flinging The Flash from his wrist blade as if he was an annoying fly or after thought. Supergirl watched The Flash smack into the ground rolling across it weakly trying to get on all fours spitting up blood as he removed his cowl that was obstructing his vision.
Zod just shakes his head bringing up his wrist gauntlet pressing the keys to restart the terraforming when a hail of bullets spray him and kick up dirt clouds around him. Supergirl looks up to see the Batwing coming in hard, unloading the last of his missile. Supergirl flew across the battlefield scooping up The Flash to a safe distance clear of the explosion.
"I got you." Supergirl said exhaustedly looking at the Flash and for the first time noticing the burn scars across his right side of his face.
Supergirl carefully caresses his face as he looks up at her weakly. In Metropolis Perry White the chief and editor of the Daily Planet was trying his best to free one of his reporters trapped in the rubble. When he realized they could not save her in time he held her hand as the gravity field drew close to them then suddenly completely powered down. They stood there with joyous looks on their faces thanking whoever they are still alive.
Zod emerged from the fiery explosion soaring across the sky landing on top of the Batwing. Supergirl looks up to see Batman was in trouble then gently lays The Flash on the ground as she pushes off the ground flying toward Zod and the Batwing.
When Batman saw Zod flying toward him he already hit the eject button so when Zod landed on the Batwing and shattered the glass reaching for Batman the bottom half had already opened with Batman diving toward the ground. Zod glanced up to see a bunch of Bat bombs Batman had set up on his fly by expecting this very thing. Zod had only enough time to tilt his head before the Batwing exploded in horrific glory.
Supergirl stopped mid-air seeing Zod flung toward the ground like a falling star. Supergirl then scans for Batman to see him safely gliding toward the ground below. Supergirl let out a sigh of relief before flying toward Zod landing before him as he crashed into the ground. Zod emerged from the flames.
"I'm going to make all these humans suffer. I will take them all from you Kara!" Zod said in a commanding voice.
"You're a monster Zod and I'm going to stop you." Supergirl replied.
They flew at each other smashing into one another kicking up a mushroom cloud of dirt as they exchanged violent blows. Lois Lane, Prof. Hamilton, and Lt. Farris watched from a safe distance. Gen. Swanwick and his men routed and took down the last of the Kryptonian soldiers using their own weapons against them. Batman was watching the fight as she was still gliding down to the ground. The Flash struggled to his feet witnessing the fight from the distance.
Supergirl was flung from the dust cloud tumbling across the ground back into the battle field among the soldiers who took cover as Zod landed near her. The Soldier's saw Supergirl struggling to get up. They saw her battered, beaten, and exhausted. They saw her fighting to save them so they chose to rally around her using whatever they could for cover and fired their beam rifles at Zod to slow him down.
Supergirl struggles once again to get to her feet seeing the soldier's trying to buy her time to recover while Zod covers his face taking small arms fire, grenades being thrown at him as well as the energy from the beam rifles bringing him down to his knees. Supergirl looked around to see General Swanwick giving orders looking over at Supergirl nodding his head.
Zod became enraged with his eyes glowing red unleashing his heat vision like a hot blade slicing over a dozen soldiers in half in mere moments. Supergirl flew grabbing General Swanwick out of the way of the beam before twisting in the after she drops him to the ground flying back at Zod. Zod watches Supergirl fly toward him as he extends his wrist blade.
Zod was going to do an upward slash and put Supergirl down for good and it would have worked but The Flash had seen this happen once before running up to Zod and threw his whole body into Zod propelling him forward so Supergirl could give him a hard right knocking him across the battlefield. In a rage Zod grabbed a nearby tank and flung it in Supergirl's direction.
Supergirl flies over it as the Flash uses his speed to move the soldiers out of harm's way. Supergirl and Zod get into another violent fist fight with her taking advantage of her speed and the heavy armor Zod is wearing to land some clean shots before getting knocked around by him. Zod approaches her with her struggling to get up again seeing Zod extend the wrist blade once more this time he was going to use his speed to do a forward thrust and put Supergirl down permanently but as he was about to sprint toward her The Flash ran behind him again, fed up with Zod and his wrist blade.
The Flash's plan was to phase his whole body through Zod and kill him once and for all but when ended up happening was The Flash phased into Zod's armor and Zod was phased out of his armor hitting the ground in his black and gray body suit with his family's crest on it. Zod quickly got to his feet and gave a disgusted look at The Flash. Supergirl was about to make her move when The Flash held up his hand.
"I got him!" The Flash said in a dark distorted face with glowing purple eyes vibing his face so no one can discover his identity.
The Flash uses his speed to move behind Zod but Zod turned his body and kept his eyes on The Flash. The Flash punched Zod across the face. Zod merely braced his back leg and took the punch as The Flash shattered his fist across Zod's face breaking some of his fingers. Zod threw a couple of punches with The Flash barely able to dodge each blow.
The Flash realized too late that Zod hadn't become faster, but he had gotten slower with the weight of the armor and with Zod free from the weight of the armor he was much faster and though the Flash was more durable he was slower. The Flash ducked and threw a half dozen lightning fast punches at Zod's side before Zod grabbed him by the back of the neck. The Flash phased spun around to run but Zod just stepped forward grabbing him again by the back of the neck.
Zod slammed his fist into the chest plate of The Flash launching him into the air then catching him by the throat and before his feet touched the ground Zod brought up his right leg and broke the left leg of the Flash before hurling him with ease into an overturned tank.
"NO!" Supergirl yelled out.
The Flash screamed out in painful agony rolling across the ground favoring his broken leg. Zod turns and faces Supergirl who turns her head in rage with her eyes glowing red.
"I was bred to be a warrior, Kara. I trained my entire life to master my senses. There's only one way this ends, Kara. Either you die or I do." Zod told her.
Supergirl flies at Zod who is so much faster without the armor weighing him down he easily snatches her by the throat and slams her into the ground. Zod raised his fist to smash in Supergirl's face when a grappling hook wrapped around it. Zod looks over his shoulder to see Batman gliding toward him. Supergirl pushes off the ground sliding up ward and away from Zod.
Batman landed on the back of Zod planting a Batbomb on his back before swinging around before he can grab him, planting one on his chest. They both go off disorienting Zod. The smoke obscures his vision of Batman. Batman plants another one across his chest spinning around wrapping Zod up in his cable before leaping off of him. Zod easily breaks the cable grabbing the end of Batman's cap but as he is distracted by him Supergirl slams into Zod putting him in a sleeper hold twisting him around to the ground.
At the same time Batman is yanked back and pulled to the ground. Batman spins around getting to his one knee trying to pull his cap free from Zod's grip in vain. Zod's eyes glow red as he glares at Batman. Supergirl does her best to restrain Zod, looking up to see Batman is in Zod's cross hairs.
"If you love these people so much you can mourn for them!" Zod said in a disturbingly calm and commanding voice firing his heat vision toward Batman.
"No!" Supergirl's voice echoed as she struggles to restrain Zod twisting their body's in time for the heat vision slice through Batman's cape freeing him to roll out the way, but the beam rips up the ground toward some soldier's trying to rescue some other soldiers from an overturned humvee.
"Don't do this!" Supergirl pleads. The heat vision cuts through the humvee like a knife through butter creating an explosion killing the soldiers and the resulting blast wounds others.
"STOP!" Supergirl screams out watching Zod's beam turn in the direction of the broken and wounded Flash who due to his broken leg and the weight of the armor would not be able to get out of the way in time.
"NEVER!" Zod says in a sinister tone.
Supergirl steels her emotions and in a decisive moment snaps Zod's neck. The sound of Zod's neck could be heard for miles as all fell silent.
Zod's body hit the ground with a thud with Supergirl backing up in horror at what Zod did and what he made her do. Supergirl falls to her knees, her bangs covering her darken facial expression. Lois Lane runs out among the soldier's to witness everything so she can retell the story for the Daily Planet. Upon witnessing the defeat of the general the remaining Kryptonian soldiers either fled or surrendered having lost the will to fight with the shock and loss of their general.
It was over, the future had changed and the world was saved but it came at a great cost. Supergirl saw the ruined horrorid landscape of battle that was littered with the wreckage of Kryptonian ships, the Army's helicopters, fighter planes, among destroyed tanks, and humvees. Then there were the soldier's trapped in the rubble, there were the screaming soldiers in pain who needed medical attention, but most horrifying of all was the scores of dead bodies that littered the battlefield.
Supergirl knew this wasn't the worst of it. Metropolis would have ruined neighborhoods and city blocks whose streets would be running with the blood of all those who couldn't escape the gravity field and were squished like a bug and left out in the open like a festering wound. Supergirl would never forget those soldiers who laid down their lives to defend their world from an overwhelming alien force. Supergirl will never forget all those she failed to save. The depth and magnitude of the battle's end, her tears ran down her eyes as she let out a horrific scream.
Supergirl turned her head and saw The Flash struggling to get to his feet then he hopped and wobbled over to her standing before his head hung low and used his bangs to obscure his face. Supergirl leaned her head against him and hugged his waist. The Flash rested one hand on her shoulder and the other he soothingly ran his hand through her hair.
"I got you…it's over…we won…the future is ours…" The Flash said, looking over to see Batman standing before him nodding his head. On a hilltop looking over battle the Reverse-Flash removed his mask with an evil smile.
"It's a brave new world Flash! See you soon!" Thawne said before streaking away in red lighting.
