SCENE 7

Mirabel, Isabela, Alonso, and Sebastián looked at the deceased Señor Gonzalo with mixed emotions. Eventually, the chaos died down as more people noticed what happened. The soldiers dropped their blades to pay respects to their fallen leader. The townspeople and Encanto villagers looked around nervously, unsure whether to celebrate this unprecedented event. Luisa and her ground eventually arrive at the village at the top of the cliff. As they looked at the scene with concern, Pepa covered Antonio's eyes so he would not see the fallen body.

SOLDIER

Sir Sebastián, as the one groomed to be next in line after General Gonzalo's passing, we look to you for guidance. Please, tell us what we should do.

Sebastián looked at the soldiers who were unsure of what to do.

SEBASTIÁN

I understand my grandfather hoped I would take over his shoes as commander of the troops and leader of this town. While I can lead our soldiers capably, I am not fit to lead my people, as I do not know their daily lives as much. Therefore, I will be working as second in command to the true leader of this town.

Sebastián pushed Alonso forward, who was still struggling to put weight on his feet. Mirabel caught him before he fell.

ALONSO

(To Sebastián) You can't be serious.

SEBASTIÁN

Go on; the stage is yours.

Sebastián pointed up towards the platform. Mirabel assisted Alonso up the platform so he could address the audience.

ALONSO

We have ruled the lands with fear and an iron fist for years. We made those we captured work against their will and punished them for minute misdemeanors. That ends tonight. Let us strive not for control but for unity as one people. Let us embrace each other's differences and create a world where cultures can melt together for a harmony unlike any have seen before. It is love that will keep us together, not hate. The reign of terror is over.

The townspeople cheered as the Encanto villagers felt relieved and embraced each other, knowing their struggle was finally over. Dolores and the others quickly headed down the cliff to join in and celebrate with the villagers.

SEBASTIÁN

Long live Alonso!

SOLDIERS

(shouting) Long live Alonso!

TOWNSPEOPLE

(cheering) Long live Alonso!

Finally finding validation from his people, Alonso felt a weight lift off his shoulders.

MIRABEL

I knew you could do it.

ALONSO

I did learn to accept myself from you.

MIRABEL

So, about that confession.

ALONSO

I'm sorry. That came at an inappropriate time. I apologize.

MIRABEL

There's no need. Besides, I don't know if I'm ready to respond yet. There are still things that I must do in Encanto, like help restore the village and all that.

ABUELA ALMA (v.o.)

There's no need.

Mirabel and Alonso turned to Abuela Alma, who walked up to the platform with Bruno.

MIRABEL

Abuela Alma?

ABUELA ALMA

Mirabel, I know firsthand how much you love our family and would do anything to make our family proud. You have always put other people's happiness before your own. It is time to think about your happiness. Besides, I've seen the way you look at the boy. I know you have feelings for him.

MIRABEL

Abuela, stop it! Besides, I lived in Encanto for so long. It's hard for me to think I belong anywhere but there.

ABUELA ALMA

You may not physically be in Encanto, but Encanto will always be inside you.

Abuela Alma grabbed Mirabel's hands and placed them by Mirabel's heart.

ABUELA ALMA

Besides, we are not that far apart. You can visit us whenever you want, or the boy can stop by whenever he wants. No matter what you choose, we will always be here for you.

With tears rolling down her eyes, Mirabel emotionally hugged Abuela Alma. Abuela Alma responded kindly.

ABUELA ALMA

(Letting Mirabel go) Alonso, you have my permission to take my daughter's hand.

ALONSO

Thank you, and I promise to make Mirabel feel happy forever.

BRUNO

You better, or else you'll have a bunch of in-laws revolting against you.

MIRABEL

Read the room, Bruno. That's too soon.

Mirabel, Abuela Alma, Bruno, and Alonso chuckled amongst each other.

ALONSO

Mirabel, I've told you before, but I'll reiterate: I love you. Will you be my girlfriend and, one day, my wife?

MIRABEL

(overwhelmed) Yes!

The crowd erupted as Mirabel and Alonso embraced each other. Antonio rushed over to the platform to hug Mirabel. Luisa came over to embrace the three of them. Julieta and Agustín embraced Isabela. Pepa and Félix hugged Bruno. Camilo and Dolores embraced Abuela Alma. Spotting Dolores, Mariano called out to Dolores, who jumped into his arms upon hearing his voice. The two embraced and shared a deep kiss, which Camilo covered Antonio's eyes for. Mirabel and Alonso looked at each other and kissed, causing Camilo to shield his eyes while everyone else smiled.

FINALE

EXT. ENCANTO - VARIOUS EXTERIORS

Two years later, the people of Encanto filled the streets with laughter and cheer. The villagers were decorating the town for another significant day. Luisa was moving heavy objects around, asking the people for advice about looks and aesthetics. Isabela was glittering the streets and rooftops with an assortment of flowers. Antonio asked the birds to help by hanging small banners and flags on the street lanterns. Camilo shapeshifted into various people depending upon what the task needed. Overall, the town was busy preparing for another grand celebration.

INT. CASA MADRIGAL - MIRABEL'S ROOM

Mirabel sat on a chair while Julieta worked on her hair and makeup.

MIRABEL

I'm telling you, Mom, I'm fine. Everything is going to be okay.

JULIETA

But I want everything perfect for my beautiful girl's special day.

MIRABEL

Mom, if you're going to act all tense and nervous, I'll react in kind. There's nothing to worry about.

Once Julieta finished working on Mirabel's hair and makeup, she spun the chair around so Mirabel could see what she looked like in the mirror.

JULIETA

What do you think?

Mirabel took a moment to admire Julieta's work.

MIRABEL

It's perfect. Thanks, Mom.

The two tightly hugged each other.

JULIETA

Oh, I almost forgot.

Julieta grabbed a veil from the dresser and placed it on Mirabel's head. Mirabel stood up as she checked to confirm her dress and veil were right.

MIRABEL

Well, what do you think?

JULIETA

You look so beautiful, and your dress looks gorgeous.

MIRABEL

I hope so. I did spend a lot of time designing it. I even included some butterflies to make my dress stand out more. Mom?

JULIETA

(crying) I'm sorry. I still can't think about letting you go so soon.

MIRABEL

Mom, please don't cry; otherwise, I'll tear up and ruin your hard work. Besides, it's not like we'll ever see each other again. We're not that far away. It's about a day of walking from here, even faster if you come by horse or cart. So, don't cry, okay?

JULIETA

(Hugging Mirabel again) I love you so much.

MIRABEL

I love you, too, Mom. Thanks for everything you did for me.

JULIETA

(Composing herself) So, are you ready?

MIRABEL

Let's do this.

INT. CASA MADRIGAL - VARIOUS INTERIORS

Mirabel and Julieta opened the door, expecting to head outside. Instead, Pepa, Félix, Bruno, and Agustín were waiting for them outside. Upon seeing Mirabel, Agustín started bawling.

BRUNO

(To Agustín) Pull yourself together. It's your daughter's special day, and nothing has happened yet. Keep it together.

PEPA

You look lovely, Mirabel.

MIRABEL

Thanks, Aunt Pepa.

FÉLIX

Of course, you're only a close second to Dolores.

MIRABEL

Félix.

FÉLIX

I'm just messing with you. You're looking great, kid.

Pepa, Félix, Bruno, and Agustín led Mirabel down the steps. Abuela Alma was waiting for her at the bottom of the steps.

ABUELA ALMA

You look so much like your mother in your dress.

MIRABEL

Thank you for giving me your blessing, Abuela Alma.

ABUELA ALMA

You were the one who taught me what true happiness is. Now, it's your turn to find your own happiness.

BRUNO

Mirabel, it's time. They're waiting for you.

Mirabel nodded at him. Bruno and Abuela Alma stood by Mirabel as she headed towards the door.

EXT. ENCANTO - VARIOUS LOCATIONS

Casita opened the door for Mirabel as she exited Casa Madrigal. The villagers showered Mirabel with love and praise as she walked down the steps. Juancho, Alejandra, and Cecilia threw flower petals in the air as Mirabel walked down the streets of Encanto. Mirabel spotted Dolores and Mariano from the crowd and walked up to them. Dolores turned over a baby sling she was carrying, revealing a baby. The baby noticed Mirabel and wanted her attention. Mirabel reached out for the baby and played with it for a moment.

Wearing a suit, Alonso walked up to Mirabel and hugged her side. Mirabel noticed this and leaned her head on his chest. After Mirabel finished playing with the baby, she returned the baby to Dolores.

ALONSO

You look beautiful.

MIRABEL

You look sharp.

ALONSO

Are you sure? It's the first time I have worn something like this. It doesn't suit me.

MIRABEL

It doesn't matter if you look clean or a little messy. I will always love you.

ALONSO

Shall we go, my dear?

MIRABEL

Of course, my love.

The two of them walked towards the church and walked down the aisle. The people from both towns entered inside with them and filled the seats as Mirabel and Alonso walked towards the altar where the priest was waiting for them.

PRIEST

Dearly beloved, we gathered today to join this man and this woman in matrimony. Alonso, do you take this woman to be your wife, to love and honor her in sickness and health for as long as you both shall live?

ALONSO

I do.

PRIEST

Mirabel, do you take this man to be your husband, to comfort and keep him safe in sickness and health for as long as you both shall live?

MIRABEL

I do.

PRIEST

Then, by the power invested in me, I pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.

Alonso and Mirabel shared an enthusiastic kiss as the church grew into an uproar. Despite the exciting noise and loud cheers reverberating inside the church, silence surrounded Alonso and Mirabel, who were in their own little world.

ALONSO

I NEVER THOUGHT I'D SEE THE DAY

THAT YOU WOULD MAKE ME FEEL THIS WAY.

I NEVER THOUGHT THAT THIS WOULD BE

THE STORY THAT WOULD PLAY

MIRABEL

I'VE ALWAYS WONDERED HOW IT'D FEEL

TO FIND A HEART SO STRONG LIKE STEEL.

I HOPE THIS ISN'T JUST A DREAM.

PLEASE TELL ME IT'S ALL REAL.

Alonso placed the ring on Mirabel's ring finger. The action overwhelmed her, but Mirabel held back her tears. The two clasped each other's hands as they looked and acknowledged the people who came to celebrate with them.

ALONSO/MIRABEL

THIS HARMONY OF TWO WORLDS

WILL FINALLY MERGE TODAY.

IT'S TIME FOR US TO STAND OUR GROUND AND SAY

EVERYONE

WE ARE ONE!

WE GOTTA BE STRONG!

WE HAVE TO BELIEVE!

WE ARE ONE!

NOW EVERYONE SEES

THAT WE ARE ALL FREE!

ALONSO

AS LONG AS WE'RE TOGETHER

MIRABEL

OUR LOVE WILL BE FOREVER

ALONSO/MIRABEL

THERE'S NOTHING WE CAN'T ACHIEVE!

EVERYONE

WE ARE ONE!

LET'S PUT OUR HANDS UP

FOR THE LOVE WE RECEIVE!

WE ARE ONE!

Alonso and Mirabel led the crowd outside of the church. The villagers and townspeople danced with each other throughout the streets as Mirabel and Alonso performed their own dance routine.

CAMILO

LOOK AT THE TWO LOVEBIRDS GO.

DOLORES

YOU TRIED TO SEPARATE THEM BEFORE, YOU KNOW?

CAMILO (spoken)

(Nudging Dolores) Hey!

CAMILO/DOLORES

WE NEVER WOULD HAVE REALIZED

THIS MOMENT TURNED TO BE A SURPRISE.

ISABELA

TOGETHER, THEY HAVE SUCH A GLOW.

LUISA

YOU WERE JEALOUS OF HER BEFORE

ISABELA (spoken)

That was long ago. Besides,

Isabela leaned on Sebastián's side.

ISABELA

I HAVE ALREADY FOUND THE LOVE OF MY LIFE.

SEBASTIÁN

I don't really sing.

ISABELA

You'll get used to it.

CAMILO/DOLORES

COME AND BREATHE IT IN

ISABELA/LUISA

FEEL IT LIKE THE WIND

DOLORES/LUISA

IT'S FUN TO SEE SOMETHING SPECIAL LIKE THIS BEGIN

CAMILO/DOLORES/ISABELA/LUISA

LET'S SHOUT OUT FROM THE JOY WE HAVE WITHIN!

Luisa threw a giant basket of flower petals in the air while Isabela showered the streets with falling flowers.

EVERYONE

WE ARE ONE!

WE GOTTA HAVE FAITH!

WE HAVE TO SUCCEED!

WE ARE ONE!

LET'S SHOW THE WHOLE WORLD

OUR BOND AND OUR CREED!

ALONSO

IT'S MAGIC.

MIRABEL

IT'S PERFECT.

CAMILO/ISABELA

AND YOU TWO DESERVE IT.

CAMILO/DOLORES/ISABELA/LUISA

YOUR LOVE IS GUARANTEED!

EVERYONE

WE ARE ONE!

LET'S SHOW THAT OUR LOVE

IS REAL AS IT SEEMS!

WE ARE ONE!

While everyone was dancing, Alonso brought Mirabel to the square where a large, concealed object stood. Alonso pulled the sheet down, revealing a statue of Pedro Madrigal. Abuela Alma teared up. Julieta, Bruno, and Pepa comforted Abuela Alma.

ALONSO

Our land and our people

MIRABEL

Connected by love.

The two held each other's hands tightly.

ALONSO/MIRABEL

THIS UNITY OF TWO HEARTS

WILL TAKE ALL OUR FEARS AWAY.

THERE'S NOTHING THAT WILL STAND IN OUR WAY!

EVERYONE

WE ARE ONE!

LET'S SING ALL OUR JOY

FOR EVERYONE TO SEE!

WE ARE ONE!

LET EVERYONE KNOW

THAT LOVE IS THE KEY!

ALONSO

THIS MOMENT IS OUR TREASURE.

MIRABEL

OUR BOND CAN NOT BE MEASURED.

ALONSO/MIRABEL

IT'S AS FAR AS THE SKY AND SEA!

EVERYONE

WE ARE ONE!

WE PLEDGE TO BE BRAVE

FOR WE ALL AGREE

WE ARE ONE!

Alonso and Mirabel entered a horse carriage heading toward the old town. Before the carriage left, Mirabel threw the bouquet in the air. Isabela caught it and snuggled up Sebastián's chest.

ISABELA/SEBASTIÁN

WE ARE ONE!

As the carriage headed towards the cavern, Isabela decorated the once dark and dismal road into a path filled with brightly colored flowers.

CAMILO/DOLORES/LUISA

WE ARE ONE!

Camilo cut a ribbon when the carriage arrived at the river, opening the bridge between the two towns. Luisa and Dolores quickly pulled it out of the way as the carriage safely crossed the bridge.

ANTONIO

WE ARE ONE!

Antonio asked the birds to continue to drop flower pedals along the carriage's path towards the old town. When Mirabel and Alonso looked up, the birds filled the sky with flower petals.

EVERYONE

WE ARE ONE!

Once Mirabel and Alonso arrived at the old town, the townspeople and soldiers congratulated the newlyweds with praise and joy. The townspeople and soldiers danced to the music as Mirabel and Alonso exited the carriage and headed toward the house Alonso grew up in, hoping to start a new life together.

MIRABEL/ALONSO (quietly and intimately)

WE ARE ONE.

THE END
