Time passes in the world of Earthland.
Evening time was coming as the sun was setting off on the horizon.
Our attention is on a ship bearing the symbol of the Fiore's Royal Army on its sail, Natsu and Kama are on board as they are setting sail for Galuna Island to accomplish the job request that the two were assigned to.
"Galuna Island, also known as Moon Island." Natsu spoke out as he is standing at the edge of the ship while reading the information of the request paper. "saving the inhabitants from the curse that plagues their land.." he scoffs a bit while folding the paper and then pocketing it. "it really sounds like a huge amount of fake mumbo jumbo and stuff."
"say that to the rumors that had spread to all the ports of Fiore." Kama's voice is heard as Natsu glances back to see his friend walking to him while having his arms crossed on his chest. "a plague that will come to turn one into demons, that's what all sailors of Fiore have been talking about the island that they fear to come anywhere near."
"Plagues are one thing but a curse that turns people into demons?" Natsu said while raising an eyebrow. "that's sounds like some fake myths and stuff."
"fake, myth, or whatever it is. We just have to go and check things out." Kama stated as he looks to the vast sea in front. "only then we can determine what this curse is all about."
"yeah, I guess so." Natsu said as he leans to the front and watches the sea. "but I still think that it's all mumbo jumbo and stuff. It's all hard believe."
"you say that but the one thing that is hard to believe is the fact that you and Cosmos are having a steady relationship." Kama said after sighing. "I can't believe that she is okay with you going on missions and you making her stay at your place with that furball pet of yours."
"She told me that she's alright with it, so I guess she is?" Natsu said before shrugging his shoulders. "what's the problem with that?"
"You really should learn a thing or two about girls." Kama said while glancing at Natsu. "sure you treat her well, but don't you think about things that she might want to do?"
"like what?" Natsu asks while raising an eyebrow.
"like going on a date, shopping, or doing whatever couples do these days." Kama said while waving a hand up and then shakes it side to side. "the point is, you two aren't progressing things after you guys told us that you were going out." he crosses his arms and tilts his head to the side. "I mean, how the heck did you ask her out at the forest? What do you guys have in common?"
"that's…." Natsu muttered as he looks up at the night sky.
Flashback
On a night at the forest where the Purus lived.
Natsu and Cosmos were at a campfire as they were surrounded by the Purus that were eating sweets that the salmon haired mage had bought from a nearby town.
"is it good, everyone?" Cosmos asks the Purus with a smile as they all just let out a happy cry while snuggling up to her. the pink haired executioner smiling and giggling to their response. "that's good to hear."
"these furballs really need to learn who to trust and who not to trust." Natsu said as he pulls up his right arm that has several purus trying to climb on him. "and learn to stop trying to climb on me."
"that's just their way of affection for you, Captain." Cosmos said with a giggle while carrying Puru and then hugging the little furball close. "all the Purus like you after all."
"they like me but they got to know that I don't like getting too fuzzed up by them." Natsu said as one Puru got onto his head before pulled off but another came to take its place. "ah, forget it. I give up."
As the campfire goes on, things became rather peaceful and quiet.
"so? what you want to do after getting this guy to settle back with his parent?" Natsu asks as he points at Puru who is sleeping on top of its dad. "I'm sure that he won't be coming back with us since this is his home and all."
"I guess I should ready myself to say goodbye." Cosmos said as she smiled while leaning down to caress Puru's head. "it's a bit sad to do so after how long I've been taking care of him, but it's the right thing to do."
"is that so?" Natsu asks while crossing his arms and seeing how Cosmos looks a bit sad. "if you feel sad about it, you can always come back to check on them."
"I would love nothing to do that, but considering my duties…" Cosmos said as she caresses and gently combs some of Puru's delicate fluffy fur. "I believe that would be too impossible."
"impossible as it sounds, you can come if you want to." Natsu said. "just tell me when you want to and I'll ask the old man to give you a free holiday."
"I can't possibly just ask…" Cosmos said.
"why not? That furball likes you and thinks of you as its friend." Natsu said. "what's so wrong about visiting the one who you are friends with?" he then looks down to see a Puru climbing onto his right hip, the furball lying down to sleep on him and the salmon haired mage just patted its head. "even I can come to like these guys at times."
Cosmos looks at Natsu for a moment before she giggles a bit.
"I guess when Captain Kama says that you're too kind in ways that I can't imagine, I guess he was right." Cosmos said. "you're an odd person, Captain Natsu."
"just call me Natsu." Natsu said as he grabs some firewood and throws it into the campfire. "calling me captain makes me feel as old as Bash."
"then I guess you should call me Cosmos." Cosmos giggles.
"alright, Cosmos." Natsu replied while grabbing a Puru that was struggling to get onto his back, the man went and then placed the furball on his left hip. "these furballs really are too attached to people, aren't they?"
"it's probably because of your kind nature, Natsu." Cosmos said with a giggle.
flashback
"after that, we spend the days as usual before we decided to go out." Natsu said as he looks at Kama who looks really baffled. "just that."
"don't say 'just that' after telling me that kind of a story." Kama said while sweatdropping. "I mean, going out after a couple of days in the forest with a bunch of furballs? No one is going to buy that story."
"whether you buy it or not, it's the damn truth." Natsu replied before he takes out a cigar and pops it into his mouth before igniting the tip with a flick of fire from his fingers. "me and Cosmos started to date each other after some time in the forest and we're damn happy with how we are now." He then shrugs his shoulders. "sure I've been going on missions and stuff, but I always make sure that she felt loved and all."
"I have a hard time believing in that." Kama said. "you guys have only been going out for what? 6 months? Going for this type of relationship in that time frame? I just don't believe it."
"you and the rest of the guys can say whatever you want." Natsu said as he reaches into his pocket and takes out a ring box that he opens to reveal a ruby gem encrusted golden ring. "I already made plans to marry Cosmos in just a few more months."
"WHAT?!" Kama exclaimed in shock. "hey! That's not something you can easily say to me! when the hell you got time to buy a ring!?"
"I bought it beforehand and already planned things to meet with Cosmos' parents later on." Natsu replied.
"hey! Just how much have you been planning!?" Kama exclaimed.
As the two Captains were chatting with one another, a random soldier of the ship went and stood near them while saluting.
"Captain Natsu! Captain Kama! We are arriving to the Galuna Island's borders!" the soldier reported as Natsu and Kama looks at the man before they turn and look at front to see an island coming into view. "we are preparing the boat for your travels!"
"so that's Galuna Island, huh?" Natsu said as he looks at the island and sees the moon that is radiating its glow above the night sky. "guess I know why its called the moon island after seeing that."
"The moon being so close to it. its radiance must be so strong up close." Kama added in before he made a noise when he caught sight of broken wood pieces floating nearby. "that is?"
"Either there were people who came here and their ship got destroyed or this is just some trash that came washing up here." Natsu said as he sees what Kama sees. "which one do you think it is?"
"can't tell considering how dark it is and how I can't see it and all." Kama said before he turns and begins walking away. "let's go and get prepared. It's going to be a rough night for us to get there."
"you ain't kidding." Natsu said as he sees how the waves around the island was rather strong and rough. "forget about it begin rough, it's all damn messed up."
After getting things prepared, Natsu and Kama got onto a small boat and started to row their way to the island.
Arriving to the shore of the Galuna Island. Natsu and Kama docked their boat to the sand and then started to travel on foot.
"Should we camp and get to the village tomorrow morning? Or should we go and just get there?" Natsu asks Kama while carrying a sack bag on his back.
"better to just go and get to the client's place." Kama said while carrying a long bag under his right arm. "it's never a good idea to camp at an unfamiliar island after all."
"I guess so." Natsu said before he stops and crouched down a bit. "I smell people up north from our current position and I can hear them chattering about some stuff I can't actually make sense of." He then stretches his legs around. "let's go and do the old quick sprint from our trainee days."
"north, huh?" Kama said as he did some quick leg stretches. "can you tell how many are there?"
"70-80, can't precisely tell." Natsu said after shrugging his shoulders. "better to count when we get there." He then got into a running stance. "ready?"
"always." Kama said while going into the same running stance as Natsu.
"a one and a two and a!" Natsu exclaimed before he and Kama went on a quick sprinting run into the forest. "go!"
Natsu and Kama rushed into the forest as the two skillfully jump over or slides down any kind of obstacles that they come across with.
"looks like you ain't gotten any rusty after becoming a captain, Kama!" Natsu grins as he swings from across the trees from several branches like an athletic monkey.
"I always trained whenever I have time, stupid!" Kama said as he is jumping from one tree branch to he went and did a quick tree swing that sent him a few feet front. "My strength! My flexibility! my stamina! My magic! I always make sure that all my skills are at top of their performance! That's the basic duty of all Fiore Trainee and their very obligation!"
"say that when you can keep up with me!" Natsu said as he did a few spins on a tree branch before he flew across several trees and went pass Kama. "and for the record, I always do the same training as you did!"
"but I always keep it up no matter how tired I am!" Kama exclaimed.
The two Captains had their old rivalry spark going as they just keep on rushing and speeding through the forest.
Time passes as by an hour that came and gone by, Natsu and Kama arrived to a large wall of tree wood as it seems to be a gate to prevent anyone from coming in.
"think this is the place?" Kama asks Natsu who nodded. "how are you so sure?"
"just a guess." Natsu shrugged his shoulder before he pointed to a sign that had the words 'STAY OUT' written on it. "but kinda not sure because of that sign." He then looks up. "but I can hear some people on the other side talking about moon and other stuff. Can't really understand considering how much are they talking."
"so it's a 50-50 chance of this being the place of the client or not." Kama said while looking side to side. "This wall spread out far and wide, huh?"
"either we knock to get them to come to greet us or.." Natsu spoke out before he pauses and then looks to the sky which is turning purple. "what the heck?"
"What's going on?" Kama asks as he and Natsu sees that the sky is radiating a purple glow or rather it's the moon that is turning purple.
"hey, is there a phenomenon where the moon turns people that I don't know about?" Natsu asks Kama who shakes his head.
"I've heard of Lunar eclipse and all, but that ain't any eclipse or anything alike." Kama stated.
Before long the two heard screams of pain coming from the other side of the wall.
"Just what is going on there!?" Natsu exclaimed as he reaches his hands to grab Revol and Ver stored on his back holster. "is this place some sort of tribe doing a ritual or something!?"
"I don't know, but we can't ignore those screams!" Kama said as he grabs and wields both of his scythes. "we'll force our way through!" he swings his weapons to the side before he did a cross swing that cuts the wooden wall into pieces. "haa!"
When the wall breaks down, Natsu jumps in first as he quickly draws out his guns and aimed them out.
"TO ANYONE DANGEROUS, REACH YOUR HANDS FOR THE SKY!" Natsu shouted loudly while Kama quickly got to his side.
"eh?" multiple confused voices are heard as Natsu and Kama are facing the group of Fairy Tail that consists of Erza, Gray, and Lucy who are in the company of people who have inhuman features. the entire group just looking as confused as the two Fiore Captains.
"aren't you guys" Natsu spoke in seeing the Fairy Tail group.
"it's that guy from last time!" Lucy said in surprise. "and with someone else!"
"yeah, this guy is my friend. His name is Kama." Natsu said while doing a head nudge towards Kama. "say hello to them, Kama."
"you know them?" Kama asks with a quick glance to Natsu who nodded.
"they're from Fairy Tail who helped me arrest Eisenwald." Natsu said as he squinted his eyes while gripping the handle of his two magic guns very tight when he sees the inhuman people near the Fairy Tail member. "and I think it's time I return the favor by helping them get out of whatever they are in."
"I had the same idea." Kama said as he started to spin his two scythes, both captains ready for a fight.
"you guys! We'll cover you! So hurry and get away from them!" Natsu exclaimed.
"huh?" Erza and the others made a confused noise before they look in surprised when they understood what Natsu was talking about.
"h-hey! Hey! Hey! Wait!" Lucy quickly run and started to wave her arms around. "wait! Don't do anything to them! They're this island's people! They're good! they're not bad!"
"huh? The heck are you talking about?!" Natsu exclaimed as he aims his Revol and Ver at the inhuman beings that are just near him. "these guys are the island's people?! You guys knocked your heads or something!?"
"we understand your confusion, but let us explain the situation!" Erza exclaimed as she got to Lucy's side. "for now, lower your weapons! We can't explain things if you have them at ready!"
Natsu and Kama looks at them for a moment before the two glanced at each other.
"You trust them or not?" Kama asks. "They helped you with that task in the past, but can we trust them right now?"
"they're good and all, but these guys believe that those guys are the island's inhabitants?" Natsu replied while raising an eyebrow before the two glance back and looks at the inhuman people. "we can't really tell who is telling the truth or not, but I guess we should try to assess the situation first." He pulls up Revol while still having Ver pointed. "however, we should keep our guard up and act after listening to their reasons."
"if you say so." Kama said as he swings his scythe to a stop before holding them in reverse grip so that their bladed edge isn't facing the group.
"we'll listen to your explanation." Natsu said as he eases his stance. "but what we'll do later on depends on the honesty of your explanation."
"that is fine." Erza nodded as she looks at Lucy and Gray who nodded to her. the scarlet knight nodded back before she turns and went straight for Natsu and Kama who watches her come. "I shall retell you what has occurred after me and my team had arrived upon the island."
Natsu and Kama look at Erza as she explained every single thing that has occurred to her group during their travel to the island after accepting the same job request from their guild. The two Captains listened carefully as the scarlet knight didn't leave out any detail as to how they came from Hargeon port to Galuna Island.
It took almost 30 minutes for Erza to finish her explanation, Lucy and Gray were waiting patiently with the villagers as they were getting a bit anxious on Natsu and Kama's reaction after listening to their part of the story.
"and that's when you two arrived on the scene." Erza spoke, finishing her part of the story with both Captains' explosive entrance after their eyes witnessed something surprising and terrifying from the villagers with inhuman physique. "That is all."
Natsu and Kama looked at Erza for a moment before the two glanced at one another and then back at the scarlet knight.
"give us a minute or two to think over this." Natsu said and Erza nodded before he and Kama backed away to a few feet to have a private talk with one another.
Erza returned to her comrades who went to her while they watch Natsu and Kama conversing by the broken wall.
"so? how did it go?" Gray asks Erza.
"They want to converse about it before doing anything else." Erza replied as she watches Natsu talking with Kama before taking a quick glance at them and then back to his friend. "I believe that they are sceptic on our story, but we just have to hope that they believe in us and won't do anything unwanted."
"but we really are telling the truth and.." Lucy spoke and Erza shakes her head.
"Hearing a story is harder to believe than seeing one firsthand." Erza told Lucy. "They didn't see the villager becoming demons, so we can't actually blame them for being cautious."
The group waited on their side as they just patiently watch Natsu and Kama conversing back and forth with one another before they look back to the group and then at each other before nodding their heads.
Natsu and Kama return to the group as they placed their weapons away.
"so these demon guys are the villagers?" Natsu asks and Erza nodded. The Salmon haired mage looking at the people surrounding them for a moment before back to the Scarlet Knight. "they transformed when the moon suddenly glows and turned purple."
"as you can see." Erza said as she looks up while pointing at the now purple glowing moon that is above in the night sky. "They transformed at the exact moment the moon turned purple."
"I see…" Natsu said as he and Kama looks at the purple moon. "That just looks so damn weird, ain't it?" he then looks at his comrade. "its color is the same as your hair, Kama."
"like hell it is!" Kama retorted. He then sighs and looks at Erza. "we saw the moon glowing purple before our abrupt entrance. We heard screams of pain and thought that there was an attack on the other side."
"and the whole screams and stuff actually came from the villagers turning to demons, huh?" Natsu said while crossing his arms. "That kind of story actually fits the bill, doesn't it?"
"yes." Erza nodded. "do you believe us?"
Natsu and Kama looks at Erza for a moment before they glanced at one another and then back at the scarlet knight while doing a shrug of their shoulders.
"Your guild got a reputation for being destructive and all, but you're not liars." Natsu said while crossing his arms and then grinning a bit. "therefore we can put our trust in you guys."
"I see." Erza nodded with a smile. "thank you for believing in us."
"Thank goodness." Lucy sighs in relief. "I was worried that we might have to fight to protect the villagers."
"And you can't expect good things to come if you fight against the Fiore's royal army and all." Gray added in.
"so then?" Kama spoke out. "since we're all on the same job, what should we do?" he then looks at Natsu. "the last time you work with them was because it was an emergency situation, this time it's different. what do we do in this type of situation?"
"that's right…" Natsu said while scratching his chin. "can't bother to call the old man about the job getting others trying to complete it." he then looks at Erza and her friends. "how you guys want to do this? Do the job together? Or do it separately? Or is there a rule that we have to work together in this type of situation?"
"no." Erza shakes her head before raising a hand. "But if I may suggest that we work together for this request?" she place the hand to her chest plate. "as much as my comrades and i have confidence in our abilities, this job may require more help considering the situation that we have learned."
"that's for sure." Natsu nodded before he looked at Kama. "I'm okay with working with them, how about you?"
"The reward may get split equally, but if it allows us to help the people of the island. So be it." Kama said with a nod.
"We're in." Natsu said to Erza who nodded with a smile.
Afterwards the group joined together and faced the villagers.
"Moka-san, we're sorry for the little disturbance." Erza spoke to one elder looking demon man who holds a staff. "and my apologies but I believe that our two friends here should learn of your situation."
"yes, it's fine." Moka said with a nod. "the confusion was a surprise at first, but if we can get more help to save the village. It's fine." He then coughs into his fist or claw. "now then. I shall begin at the top."
Moka begins to explain the village's situation as it all began with everyone on the Island being affected by a curse which turns everyone on the island into demons. The curse affected them along with dogs and birds, everything without any exception.
"not that I doubt you guys after seeing your state, but what makes you think that this is all a curse?" Natsu spoke out in cutting in Moka's explanation. "what if it's not a curse but some sort of sickness or virus or an epidemic that makes it looks like a curse?"
"We've consulted many doctors, but none of them knows what it is." Moka replied while looking down with a frown. "we have no doubt that this mutation must be linked to the moon's magical power."
"The moon's magical power?" Lucy questioned, raising an eyebrow.
"Since ancient times this place has been subjected to its influence, and as a result, the Island was shining as beautiful as the moon itself." Moka said before he looks at the purple glowing moon. "But a few years ago the moonlight suddenly turned violet."
"And that's when this so called curse began?" Kama asks and Moka nodded.
"we returned to humans in the morning and become demons at night, but…" Moka spoke as he grips his staff very hard while looking very sad. "but recently, there are those who don't change back and lose their soul."
"don't change back?" "Lose their soul?" Lucy and Gray spoke in confusion.
"You mean that they still be the same even when morning comes?" Erza asks Moka who nodded. "I see. then where are they? If we could inspect them and try to find out the cause of this curse then we can…"
"We killed them." Moka spoke and this cause the group to look surprise. "Those who don't return to their own self…we killed them."
"w-why you do such a thing!?" Lucy asks in shock. "killing them is one thing, but couldn't you have just gone and locked themselves up? Like trapping them in a cave or something!?"
"That was what we tried in the beginning! but every time we tried they would break out. So, we created a rule for those people…" Moka said as he begins to tear up. "We must kill them, whoever become a mindless monster."
"that's just…" Gray muttered as he looks a bit frustrated. "that's just damn stupid! there could've still be a chance for them to return, right!?"
"no matter how much we try to get them to return to their own self, they just go berserk!" Moka cries in tears. "if we don't kill them, they will kill all of us!" he slowly takes out a photo of a man. "even my own son…I-I had to kill my own son who turned evil...I had no choice...I had to stop him from going berserk and killing everyone on this island...just like all those who turned into real demons."
As Moka cries, Erza and the others saw the photo and could only gasp in shock.
"what's wrong?" Kama asks them after seeing their reaction.
"t-that guy is the one who brought us here!" Lucy said as she looks very shocked. "he brought us here on his boat and…"
"Lucy." Gray cuts her off as the man shakes his head to her. "don't say another word." He then looks apologetic. "Now I know why he vanished. that guy. he must've have regrets and couldn't rest in peace."
"y-you mean…he's a ghost!?" Lucy gasps in more shock than before.
"Please save this Island, I beg you!" Moka begged while bowing down and crying in tears. "If it continues like this, we'll all turn into demons and we'll all die!"
The other villagers followed suit with Moka as they bowed to Natsu and the others.
"Don't worry, Sir." Erza said with a very serious tone in her voice. "We will save your Island."
"we'll do our very best!" Gray said and Lucy nodded.
"We were trained to do our best for the mission we were tasked to." Natsu said while pumping a fist to his chest. "you can trust us to do our very best."
"agreed." Kama nodded.
"Thank you." Moka smiled as he wiped away his tears, before a serious look came to his face, "We've realized that there is only one way to lift the curse off our island." The group looked at him waiting for him to finish, the mayor points at the moon with his staff. "And that is to destroy the moon."
"Eh? Destroy the moon?" Natsu and the others spoke in unison before they became shocked. "DESTROY THE MOON!?"
Some time later, within a hut in the village.
Natsu and Kama along with Erza, Gray, and Lucy were within the hut that they were given to stay for the night in the village. The group are currently conversing as to what they would do on the job.
"Destroying the moon, huh?" Gray spoke while sitting on the floor and leaning his back against the wall. "talk about a really impossible request."
"yeah." Lucy nodded while sitting on a crate and being in a thinking pose. "I mean, how can anyone destroy the moon? Isn't it impossible?"
"Not only is it impossible, It is something we shouldn't do." Erza stated while standing near the doorway and having her arms crossed. "just like how we need the sun, we also need the moon."
"but considering that the old man's request is to destroy the moon to life the so called curse, we have to consider it to be one of the options we got to do." Natsu said as he sits on a barrel and is in the middle of lighting a cigar on his mouth. "well, we should make it our last resort if we can't find another solution for this curse."
"Definitely." Kama nodded in agreement as he stands near his friend's spot. He then crosses his arms and close his eyes. "still, I find it very strange."
"What is?" Lucy asks.
"The moon looked normal when we were going here." Natsu said as he sucks in some smoke and swallowed. "sure it looked close and all, but it wasn't purple when we saw it."
"it's the same with us." Gray said. "the moon was in full form but it was white when we came here."
"yet it turned purple at that very moment and it turned the villagers into demons." Erza added in.
"We're getting more questions than answers by the passing minute." Lucy said while rubbing her chin. "just how can the moon which was white turned purple and how can it turned people into monsters? things are getting so confusing and so mysterious."
"yeah." Gray nodded before he looks at Erza. "What you think we should do when morning comes, Erza?"
"We should try and learn about the island by collecting information." Erza said as she points a finger up. "there's not much known about the place because of how secluded the island is. Therefore the best option in finding the solution would be to gather information."
"in the case, how about going to the temple at the east side?" Natsu asks while pointing his thumb to the side. "when me and Kama were heading for the village, we caught a glimpse of a place that looked like a temple."
"now that you mention it, we saw that place too." Gray said as he looks at Lucy. "right?"
"yeah, it looked old and very ancient too." Lucy said. "we probably could learn a thing or two about the island and possibly what could make the moon purple."
"Then it's decided." Erza said with a nod. "let's rest for the night and then head off for the temple the next morning."
"yeah/ agreed." Lucy and Gray nodded.
"you guys should go to sleep first." Natsu said as he sucks in more smoke from his cigar till it was used up. The Fire Dragon Slayer burns the used up cigar bud before taking out a new one that he lit. "me and Kama will be staying watch."
"for what?" Lucy asks.
"The villagers told us that there were those amongst them who would lose their sanity and become monsters." Kama said as he sits down on the ground. "we can't actually be lenient on the fact that any of them might become monsters and come to attack us, can't we?"
"that's true." Erza nodded in agreement. "very well. Let's do a rotary watch."
"no need." Natsu said before he sucks in smoke and swallowed. "me and Kama were trained to be on watch for days straight with no rest. You guys get some rest while we keep watch."
"I knew that Fiore's National Army were trained hard and all, but no sleep for days?" Lucy spoke out in surprise while Gray went and placed down a blanket.
"Goes to show that they are serious in doing their jobs." Gray said while stripping off his shirt. "Better if we get some sleep while they keep watch as they said."
After some talk, Erza with Gray and Lucy went to sleep as they settled into their beds while Natsu and Kama sat by the opened window and look outside.
The two sat in silence before Kama glances at Natsu.
"What do you hear?" Kama asks.
"Weird stuff." Natsu said as he sucks in some smoke before he blows them out from the side of his lips. "so weird that I can't even swallow my smoke."
"must be very weird." Kama said as he looks to the purple moon in the sky. "I have been getting a bad feeling of the island ever since we arrived but couldn't really tell where it is even coming from." He then glances back at Natsu. "think it's from the temple?"
"yeah, definitely." Natsu nodded as he squinted his eyes and his vision focused to the temple that is at the far side of the village.
