They stood around for awhile thinking about ways to potentially find a mother, eventually they came to the conclusion that the only way they were going to be able to get a mother in that short amount of time is if... they make one. Loid called over his friend, Frankie. It took a few hours, but they eventually finished his face. It of course, did not work well. He just looked like a man with badly done makeup.
"I don't want this Mama." Anya said brutally honestly, Loid looked Frankie over and shook his head. Agreeing with Anya.
"This isn't going to work." Loid stated, and Annie just sat there watching the whole thing, before walking over.
"Don't take it personally, Frankie. You just don't look feminine." Annie stated, laughing softly as she scratched the back of her head. brushing her newly pink hair out of the way. Which she was still getting used to, due to the nature of her hair, she has to wear a hat. When her roots start coming in, it will blow the whole thing. It'd be bad if people saw that her roots were black.
"With all your talent for disguise, THIS is the best you could come up with? REALLY?" Frankie shouted, becoming defensive about the whole thing.
"Like Annie said, Frankie. Don't take it personally, there is just so much I can do with your body type." Loid said, sighing softly. Sitting on the couch in defeat as he brewed a new response.
"I came all this way to help, you know!" Frankie exclaimed as he stormed out of the house, Anya innocently offering him a peanut as he left. He came back in shortly thereafter, explaining he couldn't leave while he was still covered in makeup. They all share a laugh, and Annie helps him get the makeup off.
"There's no way around it then." Loid suddenly began, standing up and turning to Frankie. "I'll go find a wife." He stated, Annie, Anya and Frankie all turning to look at him. "But I'm going to actually need your help. I need to get my hands on all of the private files of women in the city, single women, no divorces favorably." Frankie thought for a moment, before agreeing to help. They set up a time, and that night Frankie helps Loid break into the Berlint City Hall.
The next morning, bright and early. Loid is up, and Anya is watching TV. Loid and Annie are both talking about ways to make everything seem real, and totally not made up. Frankie stumbles in with the copies of the files of unmarried women from City Hall. On the way in, Frankie goes off on a speech about how hard it is to find a woman, period, let alone with two children weighing you down.
"Is having children... bad?" Anya asks, peeking over the couch and at Loid. "Is Anya in the way?" She asked, and Loid rubbed her head.
"You aren't in the way, I promise." He comforted her, and then began sifting through the files with the help of Annie. While Loid and Frankie spoke, he pointed out the raggedy appearance of the girls, this flies over Anya's head, but Annie couldn't help but feel embarrassed. She suggests that they head to a boutique, and Loid agrees. They leave shortly thereafter, and the seamstress leads Anya and Annie to the back to get their measurements. Loid was deep in thought when something startled him.
"Excuse me!" A woman exclaimed from behind him, his body went cold for a moment and he began thinking about it. He wondered how she had been able to get behind him without even making a sound, was he getting soft? Being a family man was known to make even the sharpest of spies lose there edge. He couldn't help but look at her as she interacted with the store clerk, from the corner of his eye. He quickly recognized her from the files he had stolen. 'Ah. I remember, Yor Briar. 27 years old, never married or divorced. Both parents deceased, one brother who is several years younger. Both are civil servants, nothing unusual about there files.' Loid's thoughts got Annie's attention, and Anya noticed. 'I really have been losing my edge lately...'
"Sir... You've been staring at me since I walked in here, is there something I can help you with?" 'What? She could even sense my gaze? How?' He needed to come up with an excuse quickly, and he did just that.
"Uhhh... I just thought that you're very pretty, I'm sorry." He stated, laughing awkwardly and feigning embarrassment. But she suddenly took a step forward, her face laced with surprise.
"So... You're saying you have a positive impression of my appearance?!" She asked, and Loid took a step back in surprise.
"Uhm, well... Yes." He said, laughing along more. But then it appeared like she was going to say something, as she opened her mouth and quietly said 'sir'.
"Papa! Anya now knows how long she is!" Anya ran out, cheerfully exclaiming about her measurements. Annie was right behind her, smiling softly. She looked at Yor, and she couldn't help but be drawn in. Yor was actually so beautiful, and she couldn't help it... She just said it.
"Wow! You're so pretty!" Annie exclaimed out to Yor, who had been brooding to herself after hearing Anya call Loid 'Papa'.
"O-Oh! Thank you, miss...?" Annie smiled in response, and then picked up Anya. Who looked at Loid.
"Who's she?" Anya asked, and Loid gestured towards Yor.
"Another customer." Loid informs them, and just before Yor begins to walk away, Anya begins singing about how sad she is that her mama's gone, and that she longs for a mama.
"Oh, is your wife not with you?" Yor asks Loid, who then explains that his wife 'passed away' two years ago, and that he was just trying his best to raise his daughters as a single father. They then left, walking outside and then stopping right outside the boutique.
"Uhm... I know this is kind of forward but... Could you be my pretend boyfriend?" Loid was taken off guard, as he wasn't expecting this. He kind of stood there for a few minutes blank-faced until Annie nudged him. He turned his attention back to Yor who was patiently awaiting his response.
"Your pretend boyfriend...?" He asked and Yor nodded sheepishly, her cheeks pinkening as she explains her situation to him.
"Yes. I lied and told my brother that I was in a relationship..." She stopped, her voice trailing off. "I know it's a lot to ask, but I'd like to take you to a party." Yor proposed, looking away from Loid for a few moments before looking back "I promise you, this isn't some kind of sc-" She's cut off when Annie begins speaking, somewhat annoyed by how long the... transaction was taken.
"He'll accept!" She says, surprising both Loid and Yor. Loid glanced over at Annie and Anya, who had been silently watching the exchange. "He needs to get out of the house more anyways, isn't that right Pa?" Annie teased, and then turned to Yor. "And I can watch Anya while you two go out." She said, cheerfully.
"She's right, I'll accept." Loid said, and turned to face Yor. "But on one condition. You pose as the girl's stepmother at their Eden Academy admissions interview." Yor blinked as Loid gave a sob story about his late wife wanting to get them into a good school, and she accepts. And with that, they make the plans. The Forgers go home, and Yor goes home excited for the party. On the way home they had to do some shopping, but they made it back in time for the girls to get some interview practice in.
A few days later, after the party
"WHAT?! You got married THAT quick?!" Annie shouted in surprise, after Loid had gotten home after the party. He chuckled lightly, questioning the chances of Yor asking him to marry her. It was all a very lucky surprise. For some reason though, Annie seemed bothered.
"Are you alright?" Loid asked, concern lacing his voice. If Annie is unhappy this could cause a rift between them and a Operation Strix could be put in danger.
"Yeah, I uh... I just don't feel very well." She admitted, and then shook her head. Trying to think. Is it possible that her presence in the book, in the life of... 'Annie', is causing her to lose her memories? She tried to recall her past life, and although she could, it took a bit of searching. This concept made her uncomfortable, who know what's going to happen now? Especially if she can't recall the events of the manga.
"Okay, if you're sure." Loid said, and then stood up as Anya came out of her bedroom. "We're going to have to clean up the apartment, as she'll be moving in tomorrow." Anya's face was covered in shock, and she ran forward. She quickly began trying to clean up little objects, but since she was so small it was difficult. Annie walked forward and leaned down to Anya's eye level.
"It's okay, Anya. I can help you." Annie said, smiling as she began helping her clean up the small items. After this, they went to bed to wake up bright and early to continue cleaning the home before Yor arrives.
They cleaned the entire house, top to bottom. And then sat on the couch bored waiting patiently for Yor to arrive.
