Hufflepuff

SPRING(?) 1997—Swan had been getting notes for a while. The kind that are meant to be cute, signed with off-kilter hearts, XOXOs, and miniature cats. She might not be the most observant person, but she was pretty sure the sender was Argus Filch, especially since he kept bringing her snacks. And not just granola bars. Swan swore he was hiding an entire gourmet meal in his shabby overcoat, especially after he set up a candlelit four-course dinner in the library for her. Did he really think so low of her? Did he think she actually went to the library?

Then he worked up the courage to ask her to Hogsmeade. Didn't he realize that she was, like, thirty years younger than him? Ew gross.

But she said yes… to ten Galleons, because her friend Molly Darling dared her to go out with Filch, and Swan would rather gain the money than give Molly two Sickles. It was just an afternoon, Swan reminded herself. She also made it clear to Filch that if she agreed to go out with him, then he had to stop it with the notes and stalker behavior.

Swan didn't have much experience with dates, but she was pretty sure that it was the worst one ever. Everyone kept looking at her funny. Even though she dragged her feet to keep as much distance as she could between herself and Filch, he kept stopping so she could catch up, and it was obvious that they were together. The date was over when she leaned down to tie her shoe and he thought she was leaning in for a kiss.

She knocked out three of his teeth.
