Chapter Text
Koby looked around the room, his eyes scanning the students as he observed the youngsters gathered within. He wasn't the teacher, but he was here to support and assist their teacher, Iruka, and contribute to the students' education. His knowledge was primarily centered around one student in the room—his adopted son, Naruto Uzumaki. Koby stood there, and the students curiously regarded him; he was different, but not as much as he might have been when he first arrived in the village.
Iruka addressed the class, introducing Koby and emphasizing the honor of having him there to help. Koby nodded appreciatively and began his introduction, "Good morning, class, and thank you for the warm welcome, Iruka-sensei." He spoke with respect as he addressed the students, his eyes sweeping across the classroom. He noticed that not everyone was fully engaged, but he continued, "I am Koby, and I am here to support and assist all of you to the best of my abilities. I'm confident that I can share some useful tricks and insights I've gained during my time as a marine and, more recently, as a ninja."
Koby moved around the classroom, supporting students individually, and providing help where needed. He especially focused on Naruto, who seemed to pay close attention to him and responded well to his guidance. Koby was present a couple of days a week to offer support and get to know the students better.
During the hand-to-hand combat practice, Koby would demonstrate various techniques and skills he had acquired during his time as a marine, which were different from typical ninja tactics. To capture their interest, he would occasionally use Soru and Geppo, showcasing his ability to move swiftly and effortlessly. The sight of a man seemingly flying piqued their curiosity, and they were eager to attempt it themselves.
Koby allowed each student to try, but none succeeded, not even Naruto, who had been working on it for quite some time. He reassured them, saying, "It's okay; mastering these skills takes time. Even something like Soru, which is the simplest, requires practice. It took Naruto some time to get the hang of it."
Sasuke Uchiha expressed his determination, believing he could learn these techniques as well. He was motivated to become stronger, not for revenge, but to prove himself the equal of his older brother and father. Koby recognized Sasuke's determination and agreed to explain the basics of Soru and Geppo, answering the students' questions and providing guidance.
Throughout the day, Koby connected with the students on a deeper level, getting to know them better as he helped and interacted with each one. He was highly professional and dedicated to assisting them in various aspects of learning and ninja training, using his own studies and experiences to identify areas they needed to work on.
As the day came to an end, Koby bid farewell to the students, except for Naruto. He thanked Iruka for the day's work and then headed home to relax and prepare dinner for himself and Naruto. However, a little while later, he heard a knock on the door, and to his surprise, Shizune had arrived.
Koby walked to the door and opened it, finding Tenten holding Tonton in her arms, with the pig seemingly content to be there. "You've got babysitting duty with Tonton, huh?" Koby remarked with a smile, looking at the pig as Tenten gently placed it on the floor of the apartment. He then turned his attention to Shizune, offering her a warm smile. "How was your day?"
"It was good, nothing too eventful. I had to work at the hospital for a bit, but it was all positive news. How about you, Mr. Teacher?" Shizune replied, her curiosity piqued as she inquired about how Koby's first day as a classroom assistant had gone.
"Good, it went really well. There's a lot I have to work on and improve, but I can't complain. I think they have a lot of potential, and working with them is going to be a lot of fun," Koby replied, his tone humble and sincere as always.
"I see, so you two did okay, good," Shizune said as she walked past him. "I came over to make sure you didn't have any issues and to try out some cooking. I heard that you're really good at it, that's what Naruto told me."
"Yep, pops is a great cook," Naruto chimed in, agreeing with Shizune's statement.
As Koby prepared the meal, he couldn't help but feel a warm sense of contentment watching Naruto and Shizune interact. The bond between his adopted son and the woman he was growing closer to filled him with happiness. When the meal was ready, he called out to them, inviting them to the table.
Naruto and Shizune joined him at the table, and they all enjoyed the meal together. The conversation flowed easily, and Koby found himself feeling more and more grateful for the little family he was building. Life had certainly taken unexpected turns, but he wouldn't have it any other way.
As they finished their meal and cleaned up together, Koby couldn't help but reflect on how far he had come since arriving in the Hidden Leaf Village. He had gone from being a marine with no connection to this world to becoming a ninja, a father, and possibly something more with Shizune.
After everything was tidied up, they settled in for a cozy evening together. Naruto and Tonton played with some toys on the floor while Koby and Shizune sat on the couch, talking and sharing stories. It was a simple evening, but it felt perfect to Koby.
As the night wore on, they eventually said their goodbyes, and Shizune headed home. Koby and Naruto prepared for bed, with Koby tucking Naruto in and sharing a few bedtime stories. When Naruto finally drifted off to sleep, Koby stood by the bedside for a moment, watching over the sleeping boy.
The next morning he went to the other part of his job to meet with the hokage herself, and get to work. He was there for help with paperwork, support with handing out missions, and whatever other things the hokage would need. As he walked in, he smiled, "Good Morning, Lady Tsunade, Good morning Lady Shizune," Koby always the formal one while working with the two ladies.
"Good morning Koby, I hear your a decent cook, maybe I might have to come by with Shizune to find out if she is telling a tall tale and making her boyfriend look good or if it is the truth," Tsunade said playfully to tease her long time mentee.
Koby chuckled at Tsunade's remark. "You're more than welcome to drop by anytime, Lady Tsunade. I'll be happy to cook for you," he replied with a warm smile.
Shizune, who was busy organizing some paperwork, looked up and grinned. "Oh, I can assure you it's the truth, Lady Tsunade. Koby's cooking is amazing. You won't be disappointed."
Tsunade nodded approvingly. "Well, I might just take you up on that offer one of these days. But for now, let's get to work." The three of them then began their day, tackling the various tasks and responsibilities that came with being in positions of authority in Konohagakure.
The work at the office was important, considering it was the Hokage's office. Koby's schedule was quite busy: three times a week, he worked as an assistant in the office, two times he worked as a teacher, and two days he had off. It was demanding to balance these responsibilities in two different areas, but he managed it effortlessly. He diligently filed paperwork, distributed missions, and collected reports from various ninja. This allowed him to meet and familiarize himself with many of Konohagakure's ninja.
Koby worked tirelessly, dedicating himself to his job and his village. By the end of the day, he had accomplished a significant amount of work, making the job far less overwhelming for Tsunade. He figured that would allow the village to run smoothly.
As Koby finished up, he returned to the office and noticed that Lady Shizune and Lady Tsunade were both waiting and engaged in a conversation. Tsunade acknowledged his arrival, saying, "So, nice work again, Koby. Did you manage to get everything filed away and finished for today?"
"Yes, Lady Tsunade, I've completed all the tasks and double-checked everything, and all the documents are properly organized," Koby replied, maintaining his diligence in his work.
"Good. I need both of you here. There's a mission I'd like you to handle this weekend, but I'm afraid you can't take Naruto with you. Don't worry; I'll keep an eye on him for you. This mission is essential, so I need you to go, alright?" Tsunade explained, looking at them with a serious expression.
Koby nodded as he considered Tsunade's request. "If it's alright with Shizune, then I'm ready to go," he replied, looking at Shizune to confirm her willingness to undertake the mission. The suddenness of the request was unexpected, but he trusted Tsunade's judgment and knew it must be something important.
"Good, I'm glad to hear it. You see, there's an outdoor festival I was supposed to attend, a delightful event under the night sky and a joyful celebration during the day in one of the towns of the Land of Fire. I need you both to go and represent Konoha and ensure you have a good time. They've been pestering me endlessly about wanting to express their gratitude to the village, and you'll be part of some ceremony or event during the festival. I'm not exactly sure about the details," Tsunade explained, weaving a small white lie to orchestrate the situation. She had orchestrated this for Shizune and Koby, feeling it was time to push them together and ensure Shizune's happiness.
The two of them were surprised by the mission as it were, but they were not going to complain. They both trusted their boss. She wouldn't give them something they couldn't handle, and this seemed fun. They both nodded their heads about at the same time.
"Yes, Lady Tsunade, I'll do my best to represent the village and make you proud in your absence," Koby replied, his sincerity and humility shining through as always.
"Indeed, Lady Tsunade, we'll work together to ensure Koby doesn't get lost in the woods and gets to explore more of this land," Shizune chimed in, casting a curious glance at Koby, sensing that something was amiss but choosing not to question it.
"Thank you for looking after Naruto. He's a huge fan of yours," Koby said genuinely, feeling a bit uneasy about leaving the boy behind for the first time in a while.
"Great, I'm sure you both will do wonderfully. But don't forget to enjoy yourselves," Tsunade said with a smile, knowing that these two hardworking individuals needed some time alone to strengthen their bond and move their relationship forward. Work had kept them busy for far too long, and it was time they had this opportunity.
