"You know you are always welcome." Naia smiled. "Marco."
"Naia, it's so good to see you again." Marco pulled her into a tight hug. "You look healthy and alive!"
"You wouldn't believe who else is healthy and alive." Naia pulled on his arm. "Come, let me introduce you. Although, let me warn you Shanks is here."
"Of course he is," Marco muttered. "I forgot he stayed here for about a year right?"
"Yeah, except it seems to be longer this year," Naia pondered, "I wonder why that is."
"I can think of one good reason," Marco smirked. Naia rolled her eyes at the man before letting him walk into the backyard.
"Naia! We were wondering where you ran off to!" Lucky Roux hollered, "Who's that with you?"
"Pineapple!" Luffy launched himself at the Whitebeard commander. "You're here!"
"It's great to see you again as well, Little Captain," Marco said joyfully. "I had to see for myself." Luffy gave him a solemn nod in understanding before pulling him further into the party. The bonfire had grown in size and numbers as the villagers joined in. The Red Hair pirates were stumbling around, attempting to sing carols or a type of song, and some were just passed out on the sidelines.
"Is that Marco the Phoenix?" Benn questioned, his brows furrowing at the image Marco and Luffy presented.
"Yes, it is," Naia hummed, "I met him in my travels and occasionally when Luffy was with me. Unsurprisingly, Luffy managed to wrap him around his finger."
"Dahahahaha, that crazy kid!" Shanks sauntered over to the two, a large grin on his face. "Hey! Marco, join my-"
"NO!" Marco didn't even give Shanks a chance. Laughter bubbled in Maia's throat as the pirate captain whined about unfair birds.
"You'll join me though right?" Luffy asked, eyes glimmering with hope.
"Don't join him! Join me!" Ace butted in. Marco took a moment to stare at the feisty black haired boy and Naia could feel a pang of sadness shoot through her chest for the man. To see the one you fought so hard to save only to fail suddenly turn back up in front of you and to be a child, is quite disconcerting.
"My allegiance is to the man who will be King of Pirates," Marco echoed. Naia let a sad smile spread across her face in remembrance of when he first said that statement. Luffy giggled and gave the man a tight squeeze.
"Sing! Naia sing!" Luffy pulled Marco over to a piano that had somehow made its way into her yard. Where the hell did that come from? "You play!"
"Anchor, I don't think Marco is much of a-" Shanks started only to be cut short as Marco played a small melody on the keys.
"Whitebeard is going to be pissed when he realizes he missed this," Naia mused as she glided over to the piano, taking a seat on top of it. "He lives for our duets."
"Mohahahaha! He'll chew me out but you should be fine." Marco slid his fingers over the keys as he positioned himself. "How many years has it been since we've done this?"
"Too many to count."
"Naia?" Shanks hesitated. Naia winked at the man as Marco started to play. The rest of the musicians caught on, forming the whole melody.
"I really can't stay," Naia sang, her body swaying to the beat.
"Baby it's cold outside," Marco echoed, his voice complimenting hers to the tune.
"I gotta go away."
"Baby, it's cold outside."
"This evening has been."
"Been hoping that you'd dropped in." Some of the pirates who recognized Marco began to gather around to watch the usually fearsome pirate seem so normal.
"So very nice."
"I'll hold your hands, they're just like ice."
"My mother will start to worry."
"Beautiful, what's your hurry?"
"My father will be pacing the floor."
"Listen to the fireplace roar."
"So really I'd better scurry." A couple of the villagers had started to pair off along with a few of the pirates, their bodies moving to the beat as they danced around the largest bonfire. Naia's eyes sparkled as she watched them dance. This is what she lived for. The happy smiles and the love that filled the air. Although, her smile grew when her eyes wandered over to Shanks, who was pouting in a corner, and Luffy who was laughing at the childish antics of the captain. Ace and Sabo were dancing with each other or trying to. It was more they were tripping each other since they were hugging each other too closely.
"Beautiful, please don't hurry."
"Well, maybe just a half a drink more." Naia stole a quick sip out of Marco's cup that had been left on top of the piano next to her. The pirate glared at her before shaking his head.
"I'll put some records on while I pour."
"The neighbors might think."
"Baby, it's bad out there"
"Say what's in this drink?"
"No cabs to be had out there."
"I wish I knew how."
"Your eyes are like starlight now."
"To break this spell."
"I'll take your hat," Marco sang, giving a quick tug on her leg to drop her to his height. He pulled off her imaginary hat and made a move to make it seem like he threw it away.
"Why thank you." Naia bowed, jumping back onto the piano.
"Your hair looks swell."
"I ought to say no, no, no sir." Naia watched as Benn dragged Makino out toward the crowd of dancing people. She seemed hesitant at first, glancing back at the Red Hair Captain before giving in. Benn twirled her around, dragging a string of giggles from her.
"Mind if move in closer?"
"At least I'm gonna say that I tried."
"What's the sense of hurting my pride?"
"I really can't stay."
"Baby, don't hold out."
"Baby, it's cold outside." Their voices melded together as they crescendoed.
"Ah, you're very pushy you know?" Naia sighed.
"I like to think of it as opportunistic," Marco quipped.
"I simply must go."
"Baby, it's cold outside."
"The answer is no," Naia huffed, her arms crossing over her chest.
"But baby it's cold outside."
"The welcome has been."
"How lucky that you dropped in."
"So nice and warm."
"Look out the window at that storm."
"My sister will be suspicious."
"Gosh, your lips look delicious!"
"My brother will be there at the door."
"Waves upon a tropical shore."
"My maiden aunt's mind is vicious."
"Gosh, your lips are delicious!"
"Well, maybe just a cigarette more."
"Never such a blizzard before."
"And I don't even smoke."
"I've got to get home."
"Baby, you'll freeze out there."
"Say lend me your comb." The dancing started to dwindle as the song neared its end. Most coming to watch the two sing out the last lines before turning toward the food.
"It's up to your knees out there!"
"You've really been grand."
"I feel when I touch your hand."
"But don't you see?"
"How can you do this thing to me?"
"There's bound to be talk tomorrow."
"Think of my life long sorrow!"
"At least there will be plenty implied."
"If you caught pneumonia and died!"
"I really can't stay."
"Get over that old out."
"Baby, it's cold,
"Baby, it's cold outside." Naia grinned as they hit the high notes together, letting their voices carry across the party. People hollered and cheered as they finished, their voices dying out.
"Okay fine, just another drink then," Naia said, sliding off the piano to pull Marco up.
"That took a lot of convincing!" Marco laughed softly. Loud applause followed as they bowed. Naia flushed at the attention but thankfully it only lasted a moment before everyone turned back to their own partner or toward the other activities happening. Shanks was stubbornly refusing to look at them. His jaw clenched but his eyes didn't hold anger so much as a glint of something else. Naia let a sly smile spread across her face.
"Think you could sing me that one song?"
"You're shameless. Using me in such a manner," Marco huffed, a sly grin teasing his lips.
"Someone has to," Naia quipped, "Ace will eventually reach this point, won't he?" Marco gritted his teeth but reframed from taking the bait.
"Go get your captain!" Marco pushed her lightly before turning back to the musician who had gathered at the piano. Naia smiled and effortlessly slipped through the crowd as the sound of the piano floated through the air.
"Stockings are hung with care. The children sleep with one eye open. Now there's more than toys at stake.'Cause I'm older now but not done hoping. The twinkling of the lights. The scent of candles fill the household." Marco's voice chimed as he sang. His deep tenure setting a romantic mood. "Old Saint Nick has taken flight. With a heart on board so please be careful. Each year I ask for many different things. But now I know what my heart wants you to bring. So please just fall in love with me this Christmas."
