Kristy and the Just-A-Friend
Winter has well and truly arrived in Stoneybrook.
Claudia has stocked her room with large pillows and fluffy blankets. But even then, all the girls gravitate towards the single heater that sits in the corner of the room. All, of course, except Kristy, who is too proud to give up her presidential chair.
"Right, well." Kristy clears her throat and waits for all eyes to turn to her. "Obviously, it's getting a bit cold—"
"A bit cold!" Claudia exclaims. "It's freezing!"
"—and so," Kristy presses on, "we need to think of some activities to keep the kids occupied. Indoors, preferably. We don't want any kids getting sick on our watch. Now, I think this is an excellent opportunity for us to take a look at our Kid Kits and make sure that they're well-stocked."
"We've got some money in the treasury if anyone needs to get some extra bits," Stacey adds. "We could get some more craft supplies. Maybe some cards or board games to share."
Kristy nods appreciatively. "Great. Let's all have a look at our Kits and bring a list of anything new we want to the next meeting."
"Kid Kits aren't going to keep us warm though," Claudia whines. "Can't we use some of the treasury to buy me—I mean, the Club—another heater?"
"I don't think that would be an appropriate use of Club funds."
"Says you," Claudia mutters under her breath. "You have Bart to keep you warm now."
"Claude!"
"What?"
"We are not—Bart and I are just—ugh!" Kristy's cheeks go tomato red as she splutters indignantly. "This is not relevant to the meeting."
As if by magic, the phone rings with their very first call of the day. Claudia and Stacey giggle as Kristy immediately lunges for it. She silences them with a classic Kristy-glare, but they continue to grin at her. They sit impatiently, waiting for the phone call to end—waiting for their next opportunity to make Kristy blush.
