I don't own Naruto or any of its characters, I'm just a fan I enjoyed the anime but I love the fanfics even more, they made me fall for the whole franchise.
Chapter 35
"Just approach the man and tell him you are the one looking for the shadow of Konoha." Naruto was walking through the familiar streets of the red light district approaching a man he recognized as the friend of Kazuki-San. Naruto had an earpiece in his left ear in which Shisui was coordinating his movements.
"Hello, are you Kibararu-San?" Naruto asked and when the man saw Naruto he immediately had fear in his eyes and Naruto liked that it would make things simpler for him to play to his liking.
"Y-yes that is me, h-how can I help you?" The man asked he had short brown hair, light brown eyes, and a full brown beard on his face, he wore a plain-looking yellow shirt and white pants that reached his ankles. Naruto wondered where he got his fashion sense.
"I require assistance and I heard you are the one I could talk to." Naruto replied smoothly playing off the man's fears.
"Ah what ever do you mean?" The man tried playing dumb and Naruto frowned at him which made the man panic because he feared upsetting the Kyuubi.
"I'd like to speak with the shadow of Konoha." Naruto told the man who gulped he was just trying to make extra cash, he always sent people to an abandoned building where they usually came back saying they had found the man.
"Can you lead me to one of his meet-up places?" Naruto asked with fake needy eyes, that even a civilian would be able to discern, but the man in front of him was scared he didn't have the brain power to realize things.
"What meet-up place?" The man asked playing dumb and Naruto sighed ready to use the man's fear to his advantage.
"Tell him, you were already instructed on the safe word." Shisui's instructed, voice ringing out in Naruto's left ear. The device was silent enough that only Naruto could hear the feed.
"The safe word is 'The sky is bluest when the sun is brightest." Naruto recited while giving the man a disarming smile. The 'Brocker' at hearing the phrase looked around very suspiciously.
"Only then will you find true peace." The man completed the phrase nodding at Naruto and beckoning the blonde to follow him around the corner to an alleyway.
"Are you in?" Shisui asked in the earpiece with Naruto tapping the device twice as a silent affirmative.
"Good, keep doing as we planned." Shisui instructed with a determination in his voice that had Naruto feeling a little bad for playing him and his team for fools.
Shisui, Mizuki, and Gatō Naruto saw no difference in the situation he found himself in now than what he found himself in 2 years back or a few weeks back. Naruto Uzumaki was only doing what must be done to further his ambitions.
They traveled for about 10 minutes through alleyways and rural areas before arriving at an old abandoned building, the paint job had long since vanished revealing it to be made of bricks, an old-fashioned type of building built for stability during the second Hokage's rein.
A year after Hashirama's death the other 4 hidden villages saw it as their opportunity to take down or conquer the big bad Hidden leaf. The building they stood in front of had a big cross on the front of the doorless entrance, an old Hospital that got bombed by infiltrators to weaken Konoha's ability to recover their Shinobi.
"Turn on the feed, double O badass." Naruto heard Shisui sigh in the background when Rash took over from him. Naruto only puffed his chest out in pride of his badass name being used in this 'top' secret mission, tapping two times on the communicator Naruto gave an affirmative.
"Just go inside and walk around you will find who you are looking for behind the veil." Kibararu told the blonde before he scurried away, he forgot to even ask for his payment. Naruto only smiled and shook his head.
"We are getting the feed good, continue until you find a standard cupboard, it should have a red veil with a cross seal in the middle." Rash Instructed Naruto who could hear scratching sounds coming from the man. This was information they had gathered throughout the investigation by interrogating witnesses or clients as Naruto liked to call them.
Naruto walked into the building and found himself in the reception wing of the Hospital, it had missing walls, broken tables, and chairs as well as a few soothe marks. The blonde continued walking not minding the scenery until he reached the first door and opened it slowly.
The room was empty except for some rusted metal beds with missing mattresses, he closed the door slowly behind him to not cause a ruckus. Naruto moved from one door to the next taking a few seconds to turn his head left and right so those watching the camera feed could see.
The camera was located in Naruto's thick mane right at the front, painted the same golden blonde color as his hair, and placed under a genjutsu to further hide it. On the second floor, Naruto began seeing movements in the shadows.
He had never been on the receiving end of this little party trick he cooked up but getting the opportunity to see it was very exciting. It was a feature added 2 years back when Naruto had gotten his hands on the shadow clone jutsu.
"What is that?" Naruto asked in fake panic playing his role as simple 12-year-old genin.
"Can you make out what it is?" Shisui asked through the earpiece and Naruto tapped on the device once and twisted his finger on it indicating a negative visual.
"It must be those so-called 'Shadow Demons' we heard about. Legend states a man had not brought his pay on time, he said 10:30 but he showed up at 10:32 meaning he lied to the suspect." Naruto silently listened to Rash who he could hear flipping through pages as he spoke.
"Apparently those shadows came to life in his wrath and ate the man alive, liking the taste of blood so much they never left again. Now they roam the meeting areas waiting to eat anybody who would betray their master's trust." Naruto gapped he had never heard this before, it was a clear mixture of false news and exaggerated tales, and he liked it.
"Cool." Naruto said not getting any comments from his employers. Those shadows were only shadow clones he placed around the building draped in black to freak out some clients for laughs and giggles. The clones carried with them 'Now you see me Now you can't' tags and the 'Phasiest tag' giving them the traits of actual ghosts with the ability to sneak up on you unnoticed and whisper gibberish in your ears before phasing into the ground and dispelling.
"Wait! I see a note on the floor look to your left." Naruto broken out of his musing did as instructed and looked down and there indeed lay a note in a handwriting he recognized. "What does it say?" Shisui inquired of our blonde spy.
"Only in the shadows will you truly savor the light." Naruto read out loud grinning at his cool line though the audience could not see the smile.
'I could ask for their opinion on the matter." Naruto thought in realization he needed some unbiased critic, and who better than the enemy?
"Uhm, what do you guys think of the passwords and letters? It seems kind of poetic." Naruto whispered to his audience who went silent for a few seconds before Shisui's voice rang through.
"The messages are sent to Torture and Intelligence for decryption purposes though the messages can be translated in many different ways. It is actually the reason why most suspect our target to be a Nara." Shisui revealed not knowing he was stroking said target's ego who couldn't hide his grin even if he tried which he didn't.
"What do you think Muscular colossus." Naruto addressed Rugal Uchiha by his code name for the mission the man was silent but Naruto Uzumaki never gave up and used some of that talk no chakra to butter the man up calling him things like 'A man amongst man', 'The most stylish Uchiha' and 'The worlds strongest man' then Rash broke and spoke.
"I think they are codes his sending, riddles meant for the mind to contemplate, I usually see Dan relaxing just reading them saying they might be clues, but at the same time a kind of poetic philosophy." Naruto grinned at the very insightful review he couldn't believe even Dan thought of his wordings as philosophical.
'I'm so badass tststst." Naruto thought happily opening the door and entering with an extra bounce in his steps, inside he found a cabinet-like room with a red veil in the middle.

"Izumi-Chan are you in position?" Shisui's voice rang out in Izumi Uchiha's ear causing the girl to wince a little.
"Not so loud sir, but yes we are at the abandoned building should we proceed?" Izumi asked and she got a negative at her request.
"Naruto has not made contact yet, we need to confirm that our target is in the room once I give you the go you may enter on the third floor." Shisui instructed and Izumi looked over at Dan Uchiha who had an earpiece of his own listening in. The stone-cold Uchiha nodded in agreement and Izumi sighed not liking the idea.

"Ah a visitor, how can I help you, young man?" A deep rumbling voice asked behind the veil. Naruto never knew how it felt to be on the receiving end of the veil but the experience was a welcomed change.
"I need help Mr. Nara-San, I want to send a message to someone who has been a torn in my side lately." Naruto requested, this was one of his practiced lines with Shisui whispering encouragements in his ear that almost made the blond laugh.
"Ohh, and who might that be? You should know this is not a charity case. There is a stipend to be paid." The voice regaled to the blond in a deep rumbling voice that was smooth at the same time. Naruto nodded in appreciation.
"Say you have the money ready, you just need insurance that the job will be done." Rugals voice came through Naruto's ear and Naruto tapped the earpiece twice making it as though he was scratching his ear.
"Do you need an earbud, my boy?" The man behind the veil asked and Naruto heard some cussing coming from Shisui before he took over.
"Naruto-Kun refrain from doing that again understood, good continue." Shisui sighed and Naruto just shrugged.
"No, no I'm fine It was just an itch. I have the money, I just need insurance you won't take it and leave." Naruto answered the man behind the veil, but he didn't like it, he was an 'honest' businessman. If he said he would do something he would do it.
"Ohh…You should not worry my dear boy, us demons always keep our word is that not right Naruto Uzumaki of team 7?" The man behind the veil revealed and Naruto grinned everything was playing out so well.
"What are you talking about, I'm not a demon you fool." Naruto played his role of a headstrong Uzumaki to a tee abruptly standing up at the name-calling.
"Shit! Izumi and Dan converge on Naruto's location fast." Shisui's panicked voice rang out in Naruto's ear before he heard a door bang closed.
"You don't know? That is too bad, do you want me to tell you?" The voice now sounded taunting and mirthful like it knew something very funny everybody would laugh about.
"Know what?! What do you mean by demons, are you trolling me punk?!" Naruto's 'fury' soared as he played the confused and angry boy.
"Naruto, do not engage, I repeat do not engage." Rugal pleaded with the blonde softly. "He is only trying to rile you up Izumi and Dan are incoming we should be able to apprehend the suspect soon just hold on a little longer." The muscular Uchiha explained softly trying to calm the agitated blonde.
"Are your little Uchiha friends coming to say hello, demon fox?" Naruto went silent at that and Rugal swore like a sailor on drugs in Naruto's ear.
"Naruto-Kun don't listen to him support is incoming in 3,2,1." At the end of Rugal's countdown, the door to the room got kicked off its hinges. Naruto quickly rushed out of the cabinet-like room at the same time as another figure rushed out the other door of the same cabinet.
The figure was tall, about six feet in height add a few inches, he was draped in a pitch-black cloak with a hoodie that covered his face and left it in darkness obscuring his features.
"Don't move! You are under arrest!" Izumi bellowed to the man Sharingan active with Dan on her left with his dojutsu active.
"Ohh my would you look at that Naruto-Kun, now I can never have the pleasure of working with a fellow demon?" The figure laughed menacingly before raising his hands and taking a step forward. " oh well." Then he dropped.
Everybody in the room watched wide-eyed as the suspect's form became nothing but a fabric that fell on the floor.
"Ugh! Dan, go check downstairs, Shisui is on his way I'll check the rest of this floor." Izumi instructed and quickly ran out of the room followed quickly by Dan.
'I'm so awesome.' Naruto thought inwardly with a goofy smile on his face. 'I'm so telling Hinata about this little adventure.' Naruto thought and ran after their Target who only he knew was a henged clone with many of Naruto's 'Phasiest tags'.

'I must be the coolest ninja ever.' Naruto's clone thought with a grin on his face as he dashed around in the shadows draped in another pitch-black cloak with a hoodie hiding his face, all the shadow clones around the building popped to inform him of his pursuer's locations while replenishing his chakra reserves for his part of the mission.
He phased into another wall quickly just as Dan came into the hallway he had been in previously and moved to another wing of the abandoned Hospital.
'Mmh, apparently Shisui is on his way I will never be able to outrun him even for a second my only advantage is my phasing tag I will have to play this well then the boss will be the most unlikely suspect in the whole village even a toddler would be a more convincing choice.' With a rough plan made the extension of Naruto Uzumaki made up its mind and went above expectations.
"There you are." The clone grinned when another clone popped giving him and the original Naruto the memory of Shisui entering the building right under his position. The clone quickly expanded more chakra and phased through the second floor and landed on the first floor smoothly without noise but Shisui felt his presence anyway and turned around.
"It's a pleasure to finally meet you Shisui-San of the body flicker, welcome to my humble Abord." The clone grinned behind his hood with Shisui frowning at the taller man in front of him.
"There's no way to run come quietly and I won't have to hurt you." Shisui told his long-time assignment, and after 6 whole years, he finally had the man in front of him.
"Ohh… quite the bold statement officer-San, the question is can you defeat me in a place so dark and filled with shadows." The clone asked in mirth spreading his arms wide in a welcome challenge.
"Why are you doing this?" Shisui asked, the man's motives were unknown only his random rings of crimes were known mostly because he never hid them.
"Why do I do what officer-San? Why do I help the needy? Why do I remove the selfish and corrupt, why do I steal? Those are mundane questions Shisui Uchiha, the answer is simple it is because I want to." The clone stated with a laugh, his voice still deep and rumbling and yet smooth to the ears.
"I live for my own pleasures for my own ambitions and my own power that will one day see the elemental nations bowing to my might including you officer-San but not yet it is still too early." The clone ranted on to Shisui vaguely enough that Shisui could only stand there and grit his teeth at not getting anything concrete from him.
"If you will not come peacefully I will bring you in by force." Shisui threatened, taking a step forward with his target taking a step back.
"Ohhh I'm so scared." The clone mocked and Shisui acted, he Shuushined to his target at great speed reaching him in seconds ready to punch him in the stomach only to go right through him.
"Kukukuk, maybe next time Officer-San." Shisui turned around ready to attack again but only found the cloak the man wore piled up on the floor and he grits his teeth at another failure punching the wall to his left and denting it.

Naruto standing next to Izumi and Dan on the second floor refrained from rubbing his head due to the influx of memories, his clone acting as the target had dispelled running low on chakra to maintain itself after using the 'Phasiest tag' for the 4th time in 5 minutes.
Izumi, Dan, and Naruto dashed toward the first floor where they found Shisui examining the cloak their target wore to cover himself. Shisui looked down and was disappointed looking like he had just lost his job. Naruto felt bad for the guy but really what could he do?
"Did you make contact?" Dan walked up to his superior and inquired whether he noticed the metaphorical rainstorm on the man's head or not was up for debate.
"Yes he caught me off guard at first but he didn't want to fight just talk." Shisui explained downcast. Izumi went over to him and rubbed his back whispering supportive words to bring up his spirit they didn't seem to work.
"So the mission was a failure, and he got away?" Dan asked still all business, Izumi glared at him but he didn't seem bothered by the act.
"Yes he got away, he just dropped into the floor leaving his cloak." Shisui explained and tsk'd in frustration.
"He did the same to us, maybe the stories about him being a Nara could be true." Izumi asked and got a negative shake from Shisui confusing the female of the group.
"We cannot be sure his one of them and the higher-ups are adamant that it cannot be a Nara, I don't know if it's political or social but they are adamant." Shisui sighed and stood from his kneeling position taking a scroll and sealing the cloak inside.
"Dan, Izumi-Chan collect everything of interest in the building and seal them in a scroll, Rugal will send it to Torture and Intelligence." Shisui instructed so downcast he didn't even call Rugal rash which made Naruto frown.
"Naruto-Kun, I'm sure you have many questions, please follow me." Shisui turned around and headed to the doorless front entrance with Naruto following behind him. Izumi and Dan quickly dashed back up the stairs to complete their new assignments.
Shisui grabbed Naruto's shoulder and Shuushined with him away from prying eyes taking him to the Hokage monument where they could talk privately, they stood on the fourth Hokage's head and Naruto's frown became more prominent at that simple fact.
"Look gaki, I'm not allowed to talk about this to you, literally everybody in this village is not allowed to say a word about it, it is an actual law." Shisui began slowly he didn't know where to begin so he just began at the beginning.
Shisui told Naruto about the events that took place 12 years ago on the day of his birth, the sudden and unexpected attack of the nine-tailed fox in the middle of the village. He explained to him how the younger generation was not allowed to take part in the ensuing battle a call made by the third Hokage.
He explained to the blonde the extent they had to go to survive the Kyuubi's wrath, its tremendous power and overwhelmingly foul chakra that had many civilians dropping dead just by the stench of it. The many ninjas who died protecting their home while he and the rest of his peers hid, an event that still tormented him to this day along with one other he didn't go into detail with.
He then explained how the fourth Hokage came to save the day, stopping a tailed beast bomb alone, deflecting it away from the village, and taking on the nine tails on his own, summoning a toad to help him keep the Kyuubi grounded while he prepared a way to stop its rampage.
"The fourth could not defeat the Kyuubi nor kill it, so he made a choice and used you Naruto-Kun to stop all the death and destruction sealing it within you. Making you the Kyuubi Jinchuriki." Shisui finished looking anywhere but at Naruto in shame of being part of the people who left the boy in the dark.
"I see, thanks for telling me Shisui-San, and thanks for the jutsu." Naruto told the Uchiha before leaping off the monument and heading home, not bothered by the story that he already knew it just confirmed he didn't like the third or fourth Hokage.
'A bunch of Hypocrites.' Naruto sneered.

MISSION COMPLETE I THINK I PLAYED THAT WELL THIS CHAPTER WAS MEANT TO PLAY OUT EVEN BEFORE THE WAVE MISSION BUT I NEVER KNEW HOW TO PLAY IT SO I STALLED YALL FOR LIKE 20 something chapters bite me...
I hope you guy like the chapter next chapter is the Chunin exams...
