At the cabin, Claire who had recently returned as well as Aviva, Koki and Jimmy as she tossed some things from the raid in a steel drum with a fire. She then looked seeing Maisie returning and rode her bike by the steps of the cabin.
"Hey." Claire called to her.
Maisie turns to her lowering her headphones.
"Where you been?" Claire asked.
"Nowhere." Maisie fibbed. "What are you burning?"
"Oh, nothing." Claire assured with a fib. "Just some old blankets. You sure you didn't go past the bridge?"
"That's the look you give me when you think I'm lying." Maisie said as she seen it several times.
"Well, are you?" Claire asked.
"No." Maisie said though not making full eye contact.
"Maisie, you're literally looking everywhere but here." Claire said gesturing her eyes.
"I said I didn't go past the bridge." Maisie said now annoyed.
She then heads into the cabin and tossed her gloves and bag on the couch and went to cabin's woodstove.
"Maisie. Can we start over?" Claire asked not meaning to make her upset.
"I know, Claire." Maisie said adding wood in the woodstove. "There are people out there who'll do anything to find me." As she heard it a thousand times already.
"I'm not angry." Claire assured. "So that means you don't have to be angry."
"I'm not angry." Maisie insisted and closed the woodstove's door. "I can take care of myself." She heads to her room.
"We didn't say you couldn't, Maisie." Aviva said.
"Hey." Claire said. "It's okay for us to depend on each other. That's what people do."
Maisie wheeled back to her removing her hat. "How would I know what people do?" She questioned. "The only people I've spoken to in the past 4 years are you both." She referred mainly her and Owen. "Besides, I'm not even a real person anyway."
"What?" Claire said shocked of hearing this.
"I was made from someone else." Maisie said. "I'm not me."
She then sat on her bed and sighed.
"Oh, Maisie, you're being too hard on yourself with that." Aviva said.
Claire then went up to her.
"You're the only you who ever was." Claire said.
Maisie only stared with an odd look.
"What?" Claire asked.
"N-No." Maisie lightly chuckled.
"Was that, like, really corny?" Claire asked.
"It was so corny." Maisie said as the tension dissipated.
"Can we keep that between us?" Claire asked.
"Can't promise that." Maisie said.
Then a vehicle was heard approaching as Owen's Jeep Station Wagoneer and the Wild Kratts' Createrra appeared after sending the Parasaurolophus away safely. Maisie then got up and heads out to meet them as Claire sighed and the door opened.
"Hey, kid." Owen greeted affectionately.
"Hi, Maisie." Chris said.
"Hello." Maisie said.
"Sorry I'm late." Owen said.
He and Maisie then did a special handshake.
"Bop, bop." Owen chuckled and they hugged each other. "Aw."
"You smell like horses." Maisie said.
"Mm." Claire smiled walking up to him.
"Oh, you like that, do ya?" Owen asked.
"I do. Yeah." Claire said.
"Aw." Owen said.
They then kissed as they clearly gotten closer during the past 4 years.
"Hey, hey, get a room." Jimmy said.
"Okay." Maisie said backing away having no interest in watching them. "Um... I'm gonna... make dinner."
They turn to her as she heads into the cabin as Claire sighed.
"Everything okay?" Owen asked.
The cabin door closed.
"She went into town again." Claire said.
Owen sighed lightly shaking his head. "This kid. Did you talk to her?"
"I tried." Claire said and rested her head on his chest and sighed.
"I'll talk to her." Owen said.
Nearby, hiding among the branches at the edge of the pine forest, 2 creatures watched Owen and Claire head into the cabin as the Wild Kratts head to the Tortuga that is hidden nearby. They both softly purred with gruff breathing, as they were the 2 Velociraptors, Blue and Amber, as they 2 likely made this area their home territory and hunting ground.
They watched them for a few moments, and Amber lightly chirped as they turned away rushing off as Blue squawked.
In the past 4 years, Blue and Amber have survived and adapted to mainland life. And having 3 years of experience before returning to Isla Nublar, Amber was able to show and taught Blue some of the survival tricks she learnt when growing up, like how to avoid rattlesnakes in the deserts, and many more. And thanks to Amber, Blue was able to make it through her first winter just several months after the dinosaur breakout.
Blue and Amber rushed through the forest and soon near a clearing as Blue chittered, and they wandered around more as Blue lightly squawked. And the 2 Raptors trotted by a tree as they near an old abandoned school bus with an old tree on it's back after falling on it as it sat rusting in place for probably 50 years.
The bus however is their den site, as like wolves, they too use it for shelter from the weather and other animals.
Blue and Amber huffed and sniffed as they climbed up into an opening on the bus' side as their killing claws lightly tapped on the floor. Blue lightly chittered as they looked around, she chittered more and calls out a squawk as if she and Amber were looking for something. Blue and Amber head further in the back of the bus as Blue sniffs and chittered as they approach an old tire as she chittered, and inside the tire was a leaf litter and inside was an old eggshell that looked like it hatch.
Amber nears the tire as it was made into a nest, and she purred as turns to a pile of leafy branches and turns them aside revealing another egg that's on the way. She gently placed her snout on the side of the egg, lightly nudging it, and soon placed the branches back over it keeping it warm as the temperature in the bus was luckily relatively warm enough for the egg to incubate and develop.
Just then, a small chirping shriek similar to a yapping puppy was heard as they turned and saw an old food can rolling near them as Amber sniffs it. And they both looked as they were both no longer alone.
Appearing from behind a seat from hiding earlier in their absence, was a little juvenile Velociraptor probably 4 or 5 months old, and already 4 feet long. And she had the same scale coloration and metallic blue stripe on her sides as Blue, and has a broken right killing claw, and her snout had a stubbier shape.
The little Raptor chittered to the 2 adults as they stare at each other, and Blue chittered and lightly squawked as she was her mother.
And it was their turn to pass down their survival skills to her.
Shortly later, Blue and Amber trotted through the forest with the juvenile following behind them as she was already fast enough to keep up. And during the months of her incubation, Blue and Amber took turns watching over the nest and going hunting to bring back food.
The young Raptor squealed as the 3 Raptors pant as they trot through the forest, and they rushed through the trees as the juvenile stumbled and rolls across the snow and quickly got up and follows her mother and guardian.
Blue and Amber leaped over a fallen tree as the youngster ran under it, and the 2 adults climbed over another as the juvenile leaped on it's side as Blue sniffs the air and Amber lightly growled.
A few minutes later, they managed to track down a lone Snowshoe Hare as Blue and her daughter stalk towards it as they were 60 feet away from it. And Amber meanwhile was hiding close by incase the rabbit tries to make a getaway if it saw them too soon.
Blue and her daughter slowly and silently stalk closer to their target as the juvenile follows her mother's footsteps, and with the snow gently blowing towards them as they were downwind of the hare as the youngster softly growled as they were using a similar technique that lions use.
But like with every young hunter, it's not just stealth that is needed, but confidence.
The young Raptor softly chittered turning to her mother as Blue lightly squawked not breaking eye contact on their target. As she took it from Amber's experience that rabbits are not easy to catch, even for the fastest of predators.
The Snowshoe Hare continues feeding, as then suddenly a lone Gray Wolf comes from nowhere and mauls the rabbit growling. And Blue snarls a roar in anger as they had just lost their target.
And then suddenly, appearing to have misheard her mother, the juvenile charges screeching as she then leaps into the air as the wolf turns and looks seeing her flying in with teeth and claws out. And the youngster lands on the wolf's side biting down on it's neck as the wolf tumbles and rolls across the ground as the wolf helplessly barks and whines as the youngster makes the final blow.
In her hiding place, Amber stared at the scene completely stunned.
However, they weren't the only ones on the hunt.
Nearby watching the youngster killing the wolf, 2 hunters had their sights on her.
"Slow breaths." One hunter instructed. "Take your time."
The young hunter watches carefully through his scope.
As the youngster was about to feed, a gunshot was heard as the bullet just missed her as she turns to them.
Blue turns to the direction of the hunters as well, including Amber.
Through a sniper scope, the juvenile calls out as the hunter looks to the left and saw Blue and Amber charging towards them. As Blue has kicked in an emotion that is only found in very few animal mothers, Tyrannosaurus being one of them.
Mess with my baby, you're messing with Hell.
Driven by their material instincts, the 2 Raptors charged towards the hunters the young hunter tries to reload his rifle. But the other hunter fires as he gasped and quickly runs off, and continues firing as Blue and Amber dodged the flying bullets, and once close enough, Blue screeches as she lunges in the air like a lioness catching her prey.
The young hunter flees through the forest, and then ducks behind a boulder. He breathes heavily as he looked back, but saw no sign of the Raptors.
He sighed in relief and leans back against the rock.
But it's never a good idea to have your guard down for long.
Suddenly Amber cranes her head from hiding in the bushes as the hunter turns to her hissing.
"Clever girl." He was able to say.
He quickly tries to shoot her but Amber lunges like a Leopard and pounced on the hunter as they rolled and fell in a shallow ditch as the hunter screams as Amber mauls him alive.
As she was now no longer a friendly creature was she raised.
Amber is now a true wild Raptor.
From their cabin, Owen was checking on his Triumph Scrambler as he thought he heard a shout.
Claire heard it as well as a squawk was heard echoing out.
Later towards night, Owen and Maisie were outside by a campfire as he was showing her how to sharpen a stick with a knife. The Wild Kratts sat by them having some hot chocolate as an owl was heard hooting among the trees.
So far, Maisie was lightly shaving the stick with blade toward her hand as she was just avoiding cutting herself.
"All right. Cut away from yourself." Owen instructed.
Maisie started cutting the stick as the forest chorus was filled with animals howling. And then Owen flipped and twirled his knife around, and Maisie did the same successfully.
"Whoa!" Owen said amazed.
"No way, on the first try." Chris said.
"Wanna know how to win a knife fight?" Owen inquired.
Maisie turns to him.
"You gotta let yourself get cut." Owen said. "Make sure they're cutting something dispensable while you're cutting something vital. And then you say something cool like... "Wrong girl, wrong time"." He said in a gruff tone.
"Wrong girl, wrong time." Maisie said trying to sound cool.
"Not bad." Martin said. "Not bad for a first try. Try something like, "I'm tougher than you"." He said in a tough, gruff tone.
"Wrong girl, wrong time." Maisie growled in a low voice.
"Whoo!" Claire said appearing with a wrapped blanket. "Stone-cold."
"Right?" Owen said. "I would not mess with her."
Claire chuckled. "No way." She said and sat down by them and sighed.
Owen then turns to her as she gestured to Maisie.
"Listen, kiddo, we should probably talk about you going into town." Owen said.
"I don't..." Maisie scoffed. "I don't think you understand how bad it is being trapped here."
"You're not trapped here." Owen disagreed. "We just don't trust people."
"No, you just don't trust me." Maisie complained. "And then you expect me to trust you. Why can't I have any freedom?"
"Because you can't." Owen said.
Maisie stared all disbelief and then drops her knife to the ground and storms off back to the cabin.
"That went great." Owen said dryly.
"What is happening?" Claire asked feeling like Maisie hates them.
"She's 14." Owen said.
"Yeah." Claire said.
"You remember what that was like." Owen said.
Through the window, they saw Maisie in her room as she sat on her bed.
"I do." Claire said.
"Yeah, we all do lots of things when we're that age." Aviva said.
"We can't keep her here forever." Claire said. "If we don't figure this out, she's gonna go a lot farther than the bridge."
"If they find her, we're never gonna see her again." Owen insisted. "We gotta protect her. That's our job. That's what we're gonna do."
"Protect her how?" Claire asked. "By locking her inside?"
"She has a point, Owen." Chris said. "I mean she's just a kid. She doesn't even have friends her age."
"Yeah, I mean she's stuck here watching the same 6 DVDs over and over and other things." Martin said. "She just wanna do things kids her age like doing, like going out for pizza or bowling and stuff."
"If this continues, Maisie's gonna reach a breaking point eventually." Aviva added. "When that happens, going farther then the bridge is one thing, but she might not actually come back."
In her room, Maisie looks her grandfather's photobook that she kept for the past 4 years.
"She's got questions." Claire said.
Maisie looks at the 2 photos of Charlotte around her age 4 years ago, and next to her was Iris when young as they were taken back in December 1983, likely around Christmas.
"You know, questions we can't answer."
Maisie flips a page showing Charlotte in her late teens as one showed her by a light blue Volkswagen Beetle about to start her life in college. And another showed her reading while lounging on a window seat.
"She wants to know who she is. Who Charlotte Lockwood was."
Maisie looked over to the other page showing Charlotte standing by the main gates of Jurassic Park just months before the 1993 incident, June 11, 1993. The second most infamous date of the 20th Century, second only to the day of the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor: December 7, 1941.
Maisie looked out her window seeing them by the fire, and trying to understand the identical twin she never met.
Distant howling from wolves fills the night chorus of the forest as a red Ford truck sat on a ledge overlooking the cabin a quarter mile away.
"Tracked Grady to his house." A gruff voice said on a phone. "You were right. Raptor's got a juvenile."
It was the poacher with the snake tattoo that watched Owen and the Brothers with the Parasaurolophus.
"But listen, there's something else." He said. "I found that girl you've been after."
Author's Note:
I figure that from old experience on the mainland, Amber would've showed Blue the same survival tricks she learnt.
I don't know for certain if that younger hunter got away, but I couldn't help with that "Clever girl" reference that Muldoon said.
Before seeing the official trailer, I have heard of rumors of Blue having a baby, but I never believe it till seeing the trailer. I think Beta might somewhere between 4 to 6 months old at least.
And I was truly shocked of seeing Beta taking down that wolf when I saw Dominion, I'm sure the rabbit was their real target, but I think Beta must've misheard heard Blue's snarl for an attack. Whatever the case, I was surprised that Beta took down the wolf.
This extended scene of the campfire, I've read it in the junior novel of Dominion, but didn't think it was in the extended version.
And when it comes to infamy, the 1993 incident easily second to the Pearl Harbor attack. Considering that Dominion was supposed to come out in June 2021, which is why I have Pearl Harbor mentioned.
Speaking of which, anyone think that Maisie's line could've been "The only people I've spoken to in the past 3 years are you both." if not for the pandemic?
Anyway, next is the moment you've been waiting for. The return of 2 of the original Jurassic trio.
