Me: I finally figured out a way to continue this without confusing myself and getting the timeline all mixed up.
Sonic: So what'd you do?
Me: I'm doing all the wedding chapters and then the kid chapters. But I'm still going with the timeline, so the wedding chapters may have some of the next generation in there. The only exception is the chapter with my two main OCs.
Me: And that's all. You can read the chapter now. (Maybe for a second time?)
...
3 days.
Somehow six months had turned into 3 days, without Sonic's knowledge.
Amy had already sent out the invites, decorated her house, and Vanilla was hard at work on the cake. Meanwhile, the Blue Blur was running out of time; and he still hadn't decided whether he should pop the question.
On the one hand, he really did love Amy; and to spend the rest of his life with her, would be the best thing that could ever happen to him. He would be the happiest hog to ever exist in Mobius; that is, if she said yes.
But, of course, why wouldn't she say yes? She'd been waiting almost 8 years for him to ask her!
Still, on the other hand; the Blue Blur was pretty rebellious and stubborn, no way would he be able to stay still forever. If he married Amy, he wanted to be there for her; not running off on adventures.
And kids! What if she wanted to have children?! Eggman would make a better father; and he actually was a good one to his new son Gerald, surprisingly. But what did the hedgehog know about raising kids?! Nothing!
Then he'd have to provide for her and the children, and no way he could hold onto a job long enough to pay so much as rent.
Sonic sighed in despair and leaned forward, his nose close enough to touch the window of the store in front of him. It was a jewelry store located in Station Square, and he'd been visiting it every day for the past week; staring at the ring he knew Amy would love.
The hedgehog turned and started down the crowded streets, hands tucked into the jacket he'd bought himself. He'd faced down Perfect Chaos, Solaris, Dark Gaia, and...WAIT!
Sonic stopped and frowned; he felt like he'd just remembered, then forgotten, something important, but what? He shook his head and continued walking; the point was that he'd fought many powerful enemies, but this scared him? He had plenty of good reasons, of course; but, were they valid reasons?
...
As he stepped into his house, Sonic tripped over a trash bag; and finally realized how little he'd payed attention to his surroundings the past few months. He'd never really cared for cleaning, but it'd never gotten this bad before. The windows were grimy, everything was covered in a thick layer of dust, and his stuff was strewn everywhere.
Sonic groaned, "Why me? Why'd we have to wreck our house?"
He took a deep breath then raced around the house; putting stuff away, dusting, sweeping, and in general trying to make everything look less like a fire hazard. It got tiring pretty fast; and when he finally succeeded in giving the appearance of a some-what neat home, he collapsed on the sofa and went right to sleep.
...
Vector's expectant stare was starting to get on Sonic's nerve. Though, he had no idea why the detective was staring at him like he expected a big speech, or something. The hedgehog finally snapped, "Why on Mobius are you looking at me like that?!"
Vector looked perplexed, "Did you not hear my question?"
"What question?"
"Don't make me say the whole again." The crocodile groaned, "Basically, do you want Amy to be your wife or not?"
"Wait...WHAT!?" He turned to his left to see the pink hedgehog standing expectantly in a floor-length, silky white dress.
"Well, Sonniku?" She asked, "Do you love me or not?"
"I-I..." The azure hedgehog stammered. "I don't even know how I got here! I was in my house, cleaning; how..?"
Amy frowned sadly, "You're making excuses again. You know what, I'm done! Find someone else to marry, maybe Sally!" She ran off, tears streaming down her cheek.
"Amy! That's not..." A hand wrapped around his shoulders, keeping him from running after her. He turned to find a familiar brown chipmunk. "Sally!"
"Yeah, it's me. Look Sonic, don't worry about her. Now that she's gone, you and I can try again."
"No, that's not...I like you, but...we're just friends! I..." The realization hit Sonic. "I'm sleeping! That's it, I'm asleep on my couch!"
"Are you sure about that, Sonic?" Vector asked, "Seems pretty real to me."
"It can't be real. For one, why would you be the priest Vector; you're barely a good detective!"
"That's why you think this is a dream?" Sally asked in surprise. "Because Vector's the priest?"
"Well, there's that; and then there's that." He pointed at the sky, and the crocodile and chipmunk looked up to see rings and chili dogs start falling from the sky.
"WHAT!?" Sally exclaimed, taking off to find shelter.
"Every mobian for themselves!" Vector added.
Sonic shook his head, "I have the weirdest dreams, don't I?"
"SONNIKU!" A voice shouted, causing the azure hedgehog to flinch.
"Amy?! What are you doing back?"
"These rings are for me, right?"
"What! No, I mean...they just fell out of the sky! I didn't..." He looked up at the non-existent sky, "Why can't I wake up!"
...
Sonic fell off the couch with a loud: thump!"
"Who? What? Where?" He looked around his living room, "Oh, right; I fell asleep and had the weirdest dream ever."
Then he saw the time, "Oh shoot! It's morning; I only have two days left, now."
The hedgehog sighed, "Might as well go for a run, clear my head after that dream." But as he ran over the green hills, it still haunted him. Most of the events were random, but the wedding and Sally being there; those didn't seem random at all. One of his fears was that by choosing Amy, his other friend would hate him; that he'd lose her friendship.
Believe it or not, Sonic had never lost a friend that way. Most live in other worlds; Chip had fallen back to sleep; and...actually, that was all he could think of off the top of his head. He and a friend had never just...fallen apart.
That's when the Blue Blur found he'd run all the way to Station Square, right up to that same jewelry store window...again. His legs had subconsciously dragged him back.
He shook his head, "What am I doing? I keep coming back to this window; pondering the same old question, and responding with the same old excuses. It's time to make a choice; here, and now."
...
The next couple days passed in a frenzy for Sonic, mostly because the crazy dreams wouldn't stop. The 2nd night; he'd dreamed that he'd been running off on adventures, leaving Amy to provide for herself. And this past night; his dream-self had walked into the house, only to be dogpiled by a bunch of young, purple hedgehogs. The Blue Blur couldn't tell if his subconscious was trying to help, or hinder his choice.
Of course, Amy was pretty stressed to; this could be the day she either got her wish, or lost hope in her hero entirely. So yeah, today was hard for her; so, of course, some decorations had to go missing.
"Hey Cream, do you know where the balloons went?"
The rabbit peeked around the corner, holding a box full of party favors. "I think they floated into the attic."
"Great." The pink hedgehog said sarcastically; that room was so cluttered, you could barely take a step. As she climbed the stairs to go find the balloons; the doorbell rang, and she heard Cream greet someone.
The attic was a dark space that somehow managed to stay freezing year-round. It was also where her family had been putting random junk for decades, and no one had yet to navigate the mess. As Amy carefully stepped over a box of old tapes, she searched the ceiling for her missing pink and purple decorations; and found them in the right corner of the room, drifting aimlessly.
"There you are, you naughty balloons." She muttered; climbing on an old, wooden table to try and grab the strings. What she didn't know, was that the table's only leg was rotting, and the hedgehog was too much for it to support. It snapped, just as Amy snatched the balloons; and down they went. She barely had enough time to gasp before she fell...
...into the arms of the royal blue hedgehog she'd looked up to since she was nine. "Sonic!"
He grinned, "Risking your life for a bunch of floating rubber, are we? And on your birthday, no less."
"I...uh...Thanks for catching my, Sonic." She managed to say.
He set her down gently, on an old stool. "No problem, Ames." Then he snatched the balloons before they could escape again.
"Let's get these back down to the party, they seem determined to float off."
As they silently made their way down to the living room, Amy couldn't help but notice that they were holding hands; something she wasn't sure if Sonic was aware of or not.
Tails was sitting on the couch talking to Cream, when they walked in the room. He looked up and smiled, "Hey Amy!"
She ran over and hugged the teen fox. "It's so good to see you again, Tails."
"You too. Man, 18th birthday already? Seems like only yesterday; Sonic saved you from his metal copy, and you started following him everywhere."
"Yeah, feels like only yesterday for me to."
"Uh...Hey Amy, where do you, uh, want these balloons?" Sonic asked in an attempt to change the subject.
"Oh! Just scatter them around the house; I don't really care where, as long as they're visible."
"Got it." He said, speeding to another part of the house.
"Why do I get the feeling, those balloons will end up in the strangest places?" Amy asked, shaking her head.
"Cause it's Sonic." Tails answered with a chuckle.
...
About half an hour later; the rest of the guests had arrived at the party: Rouge, Big, Sticks, Silver, Blaze, Manic, Knuckles, and Sonia. They were all currently admiring a certain blue hedgehog's handiwork.
"Bro!" Manic laughed, "How'd you get the balloon inside the clock without popping it?"
Sonic chuckled, "A hedgehog never reveals his secrets, little brother; you should know that."
"I know that." Sonia said with a roll of her eyes.
Manic snapped his fingers, "Oh yeah! I've been dying yo ask you; does Knuckles sleep with the Master Emerald? I know it's his 'precious' after all."
"Shut up, Manic!"
Rouge was watching the whole conversation out of the corner of her eye, barely paying attention to her own discussion.
"Rouge!" Amy snapped, "Are you even listening to me?!"
"Hmm? What?" She turned to the hedgehog. "Did you say something, dear?"
Amy took a deep breath to calm herself; then said, "I was asking, whether or not you think Sonic likes me enough to...I don't know, ask any important questions today maybe?"
"You're only asking me because I'm the resident boy-translator, aren't you?"
"Boy-translator?" Amy asked, confused.
"Basically, I know how boy's think; well, usually. As for your other question; I'm not seeing any indicators, one way or another."
"Oh," The hedgehog said, disappointed. "Well, thanks Rouge."
"Anytime, sugar."
"Hey Amy," Cream said, when Rouge walked away. "Don't you want to open your presents?"
"Chao chao!" Cheese chimed in.
Amy smiled, "Sure Cream, we can go ahead and do that."
"Yay!" The rabbit clapped her hands in excitement. "Everyone! Let's go to the living room and watch Amy open her presents." She proclaimed, leading the way.
Once everyone had settled on chairs and couches; Amy sat down in the middle of the room, in front of her pile of presents. She claimed a green package from the top of the stack, "This is from...Knuckles and Sonia!"
Inside, she found a matching necklace and earrings; beautiful cut gems set into silver chains. Rouge suddenly sat up straighter.
"Wow!" Amy gasped, "Do I even want to know how much these cost?"
"Not as much as you might be thinking." Sonia assured her. "Knuckles, here, stumbled across a cave on Angel Island full of those jewels; and I've been making jewelry masterpieces since I was 5."
"Wow," Amy said again. "Thanks guys."
"You're welcome." The couple responded.
The birthday girl also received a very complex makeup kit from Rouge, a new fortune-telling set from Silver and Blaze, Big gifted her a fishing pole, Sticks gave some alien repellent, Manic had rigged up a trick hammer, but Tails' gift was her favorite: a scrapbook filled with pictures from all their adventures together.
The last gift was from Cream and her mom, Vanilla; a white box topped with a blue bow. Amy was, admittedly, very disappointed by the lack of Sonic presents; but what she found in the box took her breath away. She held up the floor-length, white silky dress the mother and daughter had no doubt sewn for her.
Cream ran up and hugged her friend, "Happy birthday, Amy."
...
The cake was eaten, the guests had since left, and Amy had her house to herself again; but she wasn't as happy as she should've been. Instead of sleeping, she was on her roof; gazing at the stars and thinking about her birthday wish. It was the same every year, 'I wish Sonic would man up and marry me,' but it never happened; and now she was wondering if it ever would happen.
As Amy mulled over these thoughts, a blue shadow crept toward her; "Amy?"
She turned, "Hey Sonic."
"Watcha doin' up here?"
The pink hedgehog directed her attention heavenward, "Looking at the stars."
"They are beautiful tonight." The Blue Blur commented as he sat down next to her. "But they're not the only beautiful thing I see."
Amy blushed, then turned sharply away. "No; you don't get to say that, Sonic. You didn't even get me a present for my birthday."
"Of course I did, Ames."
She looked at him in surprise, "Really? What is it? Where is it?"
Sonic grinned, "On your finger."
Amy quickly looked down, and couldn't breath when she saw the diamond ring situated on her finger. It was the same ring she'd gazed longingly at for years; ever since she first met Sonic, and had made it her mission to claim him as her own. And now, she might be getting her wish.
Sonic confirmed it when he took her hand and said, "Amy, I've been putting this confession off for too long; so I'll just come right out and say it, I love you Amy Rose."
She gasped, it was finally happening!
But the Blue Blur wasn't done, "I had so many doubts and fears about asking this; but I realized you may have some of the same worries, and you still chased me for so long. Today, that chasing pays off."
He helped her stand up; then knelt in front of her, holding her ring hand. "Amy Rose, will you marry me?"
"YES!" Amy squealed. "YES, YES, YES, a thousand times YES!" She jumped in his arms and hugged him tightly.
"Amy," Sonic choked, "Can't...breath."
"Oh," She drew away. "Sorry."
"It's okay, Ames." He smiled, then leaned closer and closer until...
They kissed under the light of a thousand stars. Together at last.
...
Me: I love this chapter, it's one of my favorites.
Me: And if you're wondering about the 06 reference; I figure that it did happen and the memories are still there, they just can't consciously remember.
Sonic: Interesting.
Me: Now go read the actual wedding, and have fun!
