The week flew by. Adam was thankful that cases were popping up like crazy because it kept his mind busy, and when he did have time off, it was time he needed to spend with Grace, who was still struggling with everything.

Kim on the other hand, was not as busy but was getting the hang of things. She moved back to her place and felt super comfortable in her own space. Not that she was having a bad time at her parents', but being back felt like the right step towards remembering.

"So good to be back, isn't it?" Sylvie asked her as she uncapped her beer bottle and met Kim in her living room. They had always been close, but right now Sylvie was almost like Kim's twin and while the brunette really appreciated all the support and attention, she didn't want Sylvie to neglect her own life in an attempt to make Kim's less miserable.

"It is. I missed my things, although it feels a little different."

"For example?"

"Well, for some reason I kept picturing this big glassdoor and a balcony and I obviously don't have that." The brunette chuckled and Sylvie instantly knew what she was referencing.

"That's good!"

"Really? From where I see it I went from having amnesia to being delusional." They both chuckled.

"And from where I see it, you might be remembering places you were at during these past two years. I don't know Kim, I choose to celebrate this as a victory." The blonde lifted up her bottle and clicked it against her friend's.

"Yeah, I guess I didn't see it like that. To the place with the cool looking balcony."

"Cheers to that." They clicked their bottles one more time and kept talking more enthusiastically.

"So what are your plans for tonight?" Kim asked.

"I don't know, what do you want to do?"

"I want you to live your life a little, Syl. I'm fine, I promise. I'm sure you have something fun to do."

"Hanging out with you is fun, you know." Sylvie pleaded her case and Kim laughed.

"I know you have my best interest and I know you enjoy being here, helping me out and hanging out, but it doesn't feel totally right or fair. So, let's try this again, what are you doing tonight?"

The blonde sighed and smiled shyly before answering. "Well, Matt asked me out for drinks."

"Oooohh, date night. I like that."

"I think he meant Molly's, so it's not really the date you have in mind."

"Who's Molly?" Kim asked, confused and making her friend laugh. "Hey, it's not cool to laugh at your memoryless friend."

"Molly is not a who, it's a what."

"Hmm, ok."

"It's this bar ran by some of Matt's friends, and while it is open to anyone who wants to go, it's mostly full of first responders. Firefighters, paramedics, some doctors from med and the police department, too."

"Oh. I see. Sounds cool."

"It is. You should totally go there once you're up for it."

"Sure." Kim took a sip of her beer and was a little nervous to speak again. "Speaking of the police. How well do you know that Adam guy?"

"Well, Matt knows him. They have worked a few cases together and I have seen him a couple of times at Molly's and also at school, when he picks up his niece. He seems like a good guy, apparently the little kid loves him and Matt said pretty cool things about him, but that's as far as I can go. Why?"

"I don't know. I ran into him the other day. We talked about stuff." She shrugged. "I don't know, it felt nice." Sylvie's eyes opened wide and her brows arched magically. "Why did you have to look at me like that? Now I feel embarrassed to tell you the next part."

"Please, tell me the next part! Please, tell me the next part."

"Relax woman, it's not what you're thinking." Sylvie knew it wasn't. Adam would never make a move on Kim given this whole scenario. The blonde knew just how much he was suffering, but he loved her friend beyond that and was going to wait all the time he needed to. "I have been thinking a lot about him. Even having a few dreams."

Kim's voice went low and soft when she said that. Although there were no secrets between the two friends, the brunette still felt a bit shy to confess this strange attraction she felt for Adam.

"What dreams?"

"I don't know. Just random situations."

"Well, I don't blame you. He's hot." Kim laughed and blushed at her friend's comment.

"He is, but it's not just that. Have I ever been to this Molly's place? Maybe I saw him before and that's why I keep thinking about him."

"Or maybe you think he's cute." The blonde said, trying to veer off the conversation. They haven't talked to Dr. Walker about what to do if she asked questions about her life, but it couldn't hurt to answer, right?

"Yeah, I do think he's cute. But that was not my question." Sylvie was shocked at how quickly Kim acknowledged her feelings, last time around it took her much longer to accept that. That had to mean that all the processes she had gone through were still inside her somewhere. Kim's tone of voice also gave her some information. She was tired, she needed answers and she was gonna pull from every string until she found one. "Syl, have I ever been there?"

"Yeah, honey. You have." She answered defeated, as Kim took a deep breath and sat straighter on her couch.

"Good. Good. I'm moving forward." She was speaking to herself, trying to make sense of things. "I probably saw him at school too, that's probably why his image is so clear."

"Could be, yeah."

Her non-stop thinking was interrupted by her phone.

"That's weird." The brunette said as she looked into her screen.

"What?"

"Ian just texted."

"Ian? From school?"

"Yeah. Saying that it was nice seeing me at school the other day and that maybe we should all get together." Kim looked at Sylvie with a puzzled look. "What do you think? Maybe getting together with everyone helps me."

"I guess we can all hang out, considering the school year is almost over, it could be fun."

Kim texted him back, accepting his invitation. He agreed that a group gathering would be great and said that he would plan everything and get back to her. One the interaction ended, Sylvie placed a hand on Kim's leg and offered her some advice.

"Just be careful with Ian. He's a bit of an ass sometimes."

"Did something in particular happen?"

"No, it's more of a general thing." They both laughed.

"Don't worry. I will keep my eyes open."

"Great." She reached in to hug her friend. "And I'm right here if you need me."

"I know, and I'm totally grateful about it."

"I'm gonna get going if I expect to be on time to meet up with Matt. Call me if anything pops up. Ok?"

"I will!" Kim stood up to walk her friend to the door. "Have fun and if you can, send me pictures of Molly's to see if anything rings a bell."

"You've got it!"

Sylvie walked to her car and as soon as she got in she took out her phone and dialed Adam's number.

"Hey, Sylvie. Is everything okay?" He asked, a bit worried.

"Yeah, relax. She's good. I called because I think I have some good news."

"Shoot."

"She's settled back in her place, but she told me she was expecting a glass door and a balcony. Isn't that what your place looks like.?" Adam smiled and Sylvie knew it even if she wasn't looking at him.

"She remembers. Oh my God, Sylvie this is huge. I mean I know it doesn't mean anything, but to me it means the world."

"There's more."

"Ok, I'm listening."

"She said something about running into you."

"Yeah, when I went to drop off Gracie. Why?"

"Well, apparently you are a pretty frequent thought of hers now." She felt like she had to share this with him, give him a little shot of life, so he could find the strength to keep fighting for them. What she wasn't sharing for now was the Ian thing. He didn't need any more drama and so far the situation was under control.

"There is a light at the end of the tunnel."

"There totally is."

"Thank you for sharing this with me. You made my day."

"I'm glad! I know it's baby steps, but it's something."

"Right now it's everything. Listen I don't mean to be rude, but I'm on call and I really need to go. Thank you so much Sylvie. You have no idea how much I appreciate it."

"No problem. I'll let you know if anything else pops up."

"Please."

Adam ended the call and slid the phone in his pocket, walking back to the scene.

"Your face lit up man. What was that call about?"

"Kim."

"She good?" Kevin asked, a little bit worried.

"Yeah man. That was Sylvie giving me some updates."

"And?"

"And there seems to be some improvements."

"That's great bro! Just hang in there. Things will turn around soon."

"Yeah, today I'm confident about that."

Sylvie's call definitely changed his mood. What she said to him, plus everything he had felt the last time he saw her gave him a whole new perspective and that positivity was the fuel he fed off for the whole week.

Until the following Friday. That's when he felt everything go to shit again.

Ian managed to get everyone together and most of Kim's colleagues were ready to hang with her and help her lighten up by Tuesday.

Sylvie was keeping a close eye on him, because to her it was obvious that he had his own hidden agenda behind all this. It couldn't be innocent and Ian knew Sylvie was all over his case, so he was trying to play his cards right.

All in all, the night was fun and Kim seemed to have a good time, but most importantly Ian was behaving so, everything was good.

However, the blonde had no idea that he had kept texting Kim.

Kim didn't say anything because she didn't think too much of it. She figured it was just a cool friend from work, she also knew that even if she asked, Sylvie wasn't going to tell her anything, so the more information she got from whatever the source, the more strings she could pull and keep moving forward.

The constant texts she got from Ian did nothing to stop her from thinking about Adam though, and to be honest she refused to push that thought away. In fact, every time her phone buzzed she secretly hoped it was him instead.

She realized that was a very stupid wish considering that he didn't have her number, but she still liked to fantazise about it.

Kim thought she was losing her mind over a guy she didn't know, and no matter how hard she tried to find a connection between the both of them she couldn't get past Molly's and school.

"There has to be something." She kept telling herself, but nothing was working out and her frustration was growing bigger with each passing day.

"Kim, you're doing great." Dr. Walker said, smiling as she examined Kim's latest test results. This time her parents went with her, they had promised Adam to give him a call with an update on what the doctor had said. It was amazing how they had created this huge safety net, not only to protect Kim, but to try to take care and support each other.

"Good. Do you think I'm going to remember soon?"

"I think you are making great improvement. Your body is healing up nicely and the swelling has reduced; and even though there wasn't a clear connection between your memory loss and this issue, the fact that the pressure in your brain is diminishing is always a good thing."

"Ok."

"Not what you wanted to hear, huh?"

"To be honest, no. I want this to be over. I'm tired of trying to figure out things and nobody is allowed to tell me anything. Do you think maybe now they can pull me out of the woods?"

"That's going to put more pressure on you, and you have enough as it is. I know it's tough, but trust me. Trust the process, you will get better with time. You're getting better already."

Kim was not at all convinced, but Dr. Walker was very positive taking into account the results and everything that both Sylvie and Kim's parents had been informing her about Kim's comments and questions.

"So, how was your doctor's appointment?" Kim wasn't really in the mood, but after his constant nagging she ended up agreeing to his invitation. This time it was only them.

"It was fine."

"Only fine?" Ian asked as he took a sip from his drink.

"Yeah." She paused and shook her head. "I'm sorry. I guess I shouldn't have come at all."

"You have nothing to be sorry for, and I think that if you're not in the mood, then more the reason to be here and try to clear your mind. Come on! It's Friday and it's an incredible night."

"Yeah, and I'm ruining yours."

"You could never do that." Kim smiled at his comment and he felt like he had just won the lottery. "So, do you want to talk about the doctor or not?"

"I mean, there is not a lot to say. I'm doing better, but not how I want to be doing."

"And what do you want?"

"I want to remember."

"How about we eat now and think about all of that later?"

"Sure, sounds good."

The rest of the dinner went fine. She laughed and had fun. He didn't realize it, but she was mostly laughing at him and how obvious his flirting was. She even wondered if he actually picked up any women with those cheesy lines.

She was too busy trying not to choke on her drink, when a group of guys entered the restaurant. Her laugh was like a magnet to him, making his head turn instantly and his soul crack.

What was going on? Why was Ian with her?

It took him a few seconds to take in what was happening, to acknowledge that his girl was out with another guy. A guy he knew was desperate to have her.

Even after getting their table, his eyes couldn't peel off from her. Every smile, every laugh, every time Ian leant closer to her was destroying him, but the final punch was watching them leave together, him placing his hand on the low of her back and them just disappeared out the door.
