Edward followed Carlisle into the hallway of the examination ward. He couldn't pick up much from the human's mind as she seemed to have it well shaded, but he knew that she was trying to hide something every time someone asked her a question. Her thoughts were a swirling mess and Edward couldn't pick out anything significant.
"Her temperature was 35.4 five days ago." Edward informed Carlisle. "Her heart rate was relatively low as well. I was concerned that she was perhaps showing signs of hypothermia, but it seems her core temperature may actually be quite low."
"It's settling between 34.8 and 35.1 at the moment which are low body temperatures. However, I did my research on Rosalie's hospital records before you brought her here and her previous physical examinations show that her body temperature is usually between 36 and 37. So, her body temperature now is abnormally low." Carlisle continued to walk down the corridor, his hands braced in front of him.
Edward hummed lowly. "Perhaps we should discuss some issues with the others as well? Emmett seems to have created quite a bond with her and Alice said her future shows dangerous occurrences every now and again."
Carlisle agreed and called the rest of the Cullen's to the family room in the facility. Emmett stayed in the examination room with Rosalie, fearing to leave her side in case anything was to go wrong, but he could hear them just fine.
Carlisle led the discussion, first announcing Rosalie's condition and asking if anyone had any concerns.
"I haven't seen her eat yet." Alice was the first to put forward. "I was with her at lunch and she ate nothing. When she came over Tuesday, she also ate nothing despite us suggesting she do. Her mother was extremely harsh – stating she didn't need the extra calories anyway."
"That would probably trigger her to not eat very much." Bella joined in. Bella had only been a new-born for 11 months and was finding it hard to be around Rosalie although she didn't exactly thirst for her blood. She remembered how low she felt as a human when someone told her she didn't need to eat anymore or had to exercise. That would have a negative effect on her.
"She doesn't seem to have a comforting family." Esme sighed sadly. "Her mother is very reserved, proper and doesn't show much emotion. She isn't physically supportive, and her father is currently looking for 'suitable husbands?'." Esme shook her head as though she couldn't believe what she was saying.
"She also doesn't have a good future." Alice put in once again. "It's quite blurred to see…a little like Edward's mind reading block with Bella. I saw snippets of her passing out a couple of times and getting sick. I also saw her lying in a coma and then getting weighed. I really think it has something to do with her eating…"
"She is small for her height." Jasper quietly moved in his chair. He never said much but he was quite observant. He didn't fail to notice that she seemed like a feather on her feet, her ribs often protruded through her clothing.
"So," Carlisle calmly pieced every input together. "I think we are dealing with quite a few problems that she isn't able to share with anyone. Perhaps her mother is encouraging starving and therefore triggering an eating disorder. She seems very reserved and I think she has a lot going on in her mind that can be very destroying. I will weigh her to see if her weight is low and we will go on from there. I think it's important to not let this go and offer our treatment if needed. Emmett has grown very close to this human and we must make sure she is safe."
Back in the examination room, Emmett softly rubbed circles into Rosalie's smooth skin. He had removed her cold-sweat drenched cardigan in fear that it would make her sicker and had replaced it with his own jacket to warm her up. He didn't fail to notice the tracks of neatly tri-coloured bruises along her arms. She was very fragile, and he was afraid that his vampire strength would crush her. He had never had a connection this strong with any human before and he was a little fearful. However, he knew this was the right thing. He loved her.
His family wouldn't have a problem with accepting Rosalie into the family as Bella had once been human and had carried a healthy relationship with Edward. Who was to say Emmett wasn't capable of self-control too? He felt slightly uncomfortable with the thought of Rose one day becoming a vampire but if it was to be her choice, then he would accept that. Vampires were awesome, strong and insanely beautiful. Rosalie would be an Angel sent from Heaven. His angel.
She stirred in his cold arms, a whimper leaving her lips and a huge shiver pulsing through her tiny body. He felt bad for causing her to feel colder but he simply couldn't put her down.
"Hush, Rose." He murmured, resisting the urge to stroke her cheek as she slowly opened her violet eyes with the faintest of blue specs. He was immensely at awe with her beauty.
She pushed herself up into his arms and took a struggling, deep breath. "My throat -" She started. "It's…"
"Rose?" Emmett asked, noticing the change in the human's heartbeat and breathing rate.
Rosalie's cheeks started turning a light red colour and her lips turned a deep blue. "Em." She managed to get out.
"Shit." Emmett murmured to himself. Rosalie was somehow finding it hard to breathe and although Carlisle had given him medical training, he was panicking when put to the test. "Okay, Rose…" He began, pulling her up and pushing her head down slightly towards her knees. "Just take a nice deep breath in. And then a nice deep one out. In, out, in, out. Like this." He adjusted his own pattern slightly to allow her to catch up with him and adjust.
When the situation refused to improve, he called for Carlisle as loud as he could without screaming or shouting. With vampire hearing, Carlisle would be able to hear Emmett regardless of where he was.
