"I can't forgive it. I'll never forgive it!"
Miriam stood behind her father now, trembling as a few tears streamed down her cheeks. She hated it when he yelled and she couldn't bear to be in the same area as him right now. Andrew noticed this and walked over to his shaking niece, wrapping an arm around her as he whispered into her ear. "Go and find Nathaniel."
He had seen how the two looked at eachother the night before and he wasn't an idiot. He also knew that she was going to fall apart if she stayed in the current situation at that moment. The girl nodded and ran as fast as she could. Luckily the crowd was dwindling down as she reached Nathaniel, who frowned at the girl's tear stained face.
"Miriam what is wrong?" he asked, his heart breaking for her. A girl he had only known for a day and a half.
"Um...My father...he's yelling at Matthew" she managed to get out as another round of tears consumed her. "I hate it when he yells...Can we just be here for a moment?"
Nathaniel looked at her sadly, nodding as he gently took Miriam's hand, bringing her into his arms. Everything just felt so right with her and he wanted to make all her problems go away. She wrapped her arms around him now, placing her head on his chest as Nathaniel ran a hand through her wavy hair, kissing her head softly.
"It's alright. I'm here" he whispered softly as she closed her eyes. He held her gently now as he led her to a bench that had been set up nearby, sitting down with her.
"You're father doesn't hurt you does he?" Nathaniel whispered softly as Miriam quickly lifted her head now.
"No Nathaniel. We're best friends. He never has but when he gets like this it's scary."
Nathaniel nodded and took her face in his hands gently, gazing into her eyes. "If he ever hurts you, you know where to find me" he said softly, throwing caution to the wind as he placed a gentle kiss on her lips. She smiled against his lips and wrapped her arms around his neck, one of her hands running through his curls. They were so wrapped up in the kiss that they didn't hear her father and uncle approach. And they didn't know that Simon had heard everything that had been said within the past few seconds.
"What in Israel is going on here?" Simon asked as Andrew placed a hand on his shoulder to keep him calm.
Miriam looked at her father shocked now, eyes filling with tears once more. She was shaking in Nathaniel's arms. He leaned over and placed a hand on her cheek.
"You'll be fine. We can talk in the morning" he said, kissing her cheek before walking to his tent. The day was over.
Miriam sat right where she was, not wanting to come near her father at that moment. She wrapped her arms around herself as she was still trembling from everything that had happened at that camp fire. Her eyes were on her hands now and she didn't look up either. She felt a couple tears fall and sniffled as she wiped them away with her sleeve.
Simon's face softened now at the sight of his little girl crying and approached her slowly and cautiously. After what Andrew had told him he knew he needed to be slow around her. "Hey...baby it's okay. I was never mad at you. I didn't mean to scare you."
Miriam looked up at him now, tears spilling down her cheeks, but she still jumped up and flung herself into his arms, hiding her face in his chest.
"It's okay sweetheart" Simon said softly as he rubbed her back gently, rocking her back and forth. He motioned for Andrew to go to bed now as he sat down on the bench and pulled Miriam into his lap. He kissed her cheek softly and placed his head on her's.
"I'm sorry little girl" he whispered softly into her hair.
Miriam hugged her father tightly now, hiding her face in his neck as she closed her eyes. Simon rubbed her arm gently before kissing her cheek once more, tilting her head so she could look him in the eye. "You know I would never hurt you right?"
Miriam nodded slowly, wiping her cheeks with the back of her hand before looking back up at her father. "I know Abba" she said softly. "You're yelling just scares me sometimes."
Simon sighed and closed his eyes. The last thing he wanted Miriam to be was scared of her own father. It broke his heart to hear it. So much that tears came to his own eyes as he kissed her forehead and hugged her close once more.
"I love you sweet girl" he said softly. "And I will never, ever harm a hair on you're head. You are my baby. No matter if you kiss Nathaniel or not."
Miriam blushed and looked down at her hands now. "Yeah about that..." she started to say now before her father pulled her into his chest.
"Honey don't worry about that. I could see the look on both of you're faces when you met last night. That's the way I felt about you're mother when we met."
"I wish you would tell me about that sometime" she said now as she held onto one of his hands.
"Well you know the story of our wedding very well" he said laughing as he rubbed his nose against her's.
"Yeah I know. You and Eema talk about it all the time!"
Simon kissed her forehead now and gazed down at her protectively. "Just make sure he knows that if he hurts you, he answers to me and you're Uncle Andrew."
Miriam grinned and kissed her father's cheek. "I'll make sure he knows Abba."
Simon smiled softly as she yawned a little into her hand now. "Alright young lady. It's time to get you to bed" he said as he stood with her still in his arms. "I don't want you drowsy tomorrow as we have a long journey."
She nodded and closed her eyes as she leaned into her father's shoulder as he carried her to their tent. By the time he had laid her down, she was already asleep. He removed her sandals gently before grabbing a blanket and laying down next to her. He too was also asleep in seconds, holding his little girl close to him now.
