Two Months Ago

"Are we over?" Hanna asked Quintus brokenly as the two of them stood in his office.

She supposed that this was her father's fault, but she would never blame him for anything. Ever since Evo had gotten sick, Gaius had sworn his daughter to secrecy about the situation. Now torn between her family and her beloved, things were getting to a breaking point between the couple.

"We might be" Quintus said as he walked over to his desk, looking over some scrolls, his eyes not even meeting her own. "Unless you tell me what exactly is going on."

"Quintus you know I can't do that" she said, tears filling her eyes now.

"You know...If you were you're father I would have you killed for not telling me Hanna."

She backed up now, hurt and shock written all over her face as the tears finally left her eyes.. And that's when Quintus knew he had made a mistake. He'd gone too far. He had promised her that he would never hurt her and he just had.

"Hanna..." he started to say quietly, reaching for her. But she ran. She ran from his office as quickly as she could, sobbing. She ran blindly back home, running past everyone, including her old parents who watched in shock and concern for their former daughter.

Gaius, who had been patrolling the streets, stopped abruptly as his daughter ran past him in tears. "Marcus. Take over for the rest of the day" he ordered the man next to him before running after his daughter.

Hanna was halfway home when Gaius caught up to her, taking her arm gently as he pulled her around to face him. "Honey talk to me" he said, taking her face in his hands, wiping the tears away as best he could.

"Quintus...and I...we..."

Gaius didn't have to hear anymore to know what had happened. He picked her up quickly as she sobbed into his shoulder, wrapping her arms around his neck. He felt guilty. Guilty that he hadn't allowed his daughter to tell the man she loved what was going on now. Because now his daughter was broken. Not just because her brother was sick but because she had lost Quintus.

"I'm sorry honey" he said softly, kissing her temple as he held her tightly.

Two Months Later

Hanna had barely left her room. She hadn't spoken to anyone but her father or Faith, she was tired all the time and all she could do was lay in bed and stare at the pictures she had drawn of her and Quintus. The only time she ever left her room was to sit with her beloved brother. The brother she was worried about most at the moment. Her other two brothers were fine.

This had gone on for a whole month up until the day she woke up feeling sick herself. She was nauseated and her head hurt. Frowning, she sat up in bed and opened up one of her drawers next to her bed, grabbing her thermometer. She quickly checked her temperature and sighed. It was a hundred degrees and she knew the last thing her father needed was another sick child. It was a stress reaction, but Hanna still knew her dad would freak.

She got out of bed slowly now, walking over to her closet, picking out the closest dress she could find before putting it on. She pulled her hair up into a bun, put a dash of perfume on and didn't even bother with make up. She then grabbed a bag and placed some things in it before walking downstairs, hoping to get out the door undetected, but it failed as Faith came into the room.

"Hanna where are you going?" she asked softly.

"For a walk" she said simply, smiling as if everything was okay.

"You look sick" her step-mother said worried as she reached for Hanna's face, but the girl backed away.

"I'll be fine Faith" she said before slipping out the door without another word.

She found herself wandering aimlessly, wondering where she could go. This was the first time she had been out in public for two months and she was sure she looked like a wreck. But she didn't care much what she looked like at the moment. Ben walked at her side now, whining at his owner's obvious distress. And that is when Hanna heard a voice behind her.

"Hanna?"

It was Matthew. She hadn't spoken to him since before he had left on his mission and hadn't seen him since he had gotten back. She turned now and despite how she was feeling, ran into his arms, crying into his shoulder. Matthew looked down at her shocked. First Maya now Hanna. This must have been a bad week for the two best friends. He pulled back a little to look at her, frowning at how pale she was.

He felt her forehead, his eyes widening at how hot she was. "Hanna..."

"Yeah I know...It's a hundred degrees. I checked it this morning."

"Then why did you even leave the house?" he asked as he led her towards their old home.

"Because...Quintus and I broke up and I needed to get out of there."

That was partly true. She wasn't going to tell Matthew about Evo."

Matthew sensed that was part of the truth at least as he walked into the house, leading her upstairs to her old room, which was still in perfect shape. He led her to the bed now and she instantly curled up under the covers closing her eyes. "Just do not...say I told you so..." she said as she slipped into a deep sleep almost instantly.

He knew he had to find Gaius. Something wasn't right about all this. He looked back at his sister before leaving the room, closing the door gently. He walked outside and headed right where he knew Gaius would be at that moment, which was helping Simon with the water situation.

"Gaius!" Matthew called out as he rushed over to him and Simon.

"Matthew what's wrong?" Gaius asked, a little worried now. Something didn't feel right.

"It's Hanna. She's really sick. She's in her old room at my place. I believe she was trying to get away from everything to do with Quintus."

Gaius nodded and followed Matthew quickly, praying that his little girl was okay.

Hanna's eyes fluttered open a few hours later, thinking at first that she was in her room at home, but then she noticed that she was in her and Matthew's old house and that her father was asleep next to her, his dagger on her desk. She watched her father sleep for a moment. She could see how worried he looked now and not just because of Evo. Now it was probably because of her and she felt horrible. She leaned over now and kissed his cheek.

"Daddy?" she asked, weakness evident in her voice.

Her father's blue eyes fluttered open now, looking right into his daughter's own eyes. She looked sad and it made him feel guilty.

"There's my girl" he said softly, kissing her forehead as he pulled her close, rubbing her back now as she hid her face in his neck.

A few tears escaped her eyes as she hugged her father tightly. "I'm so sorry daddy" she managed to get out through her sobs. "I didn't want you to have to deal with another sick kid."

"It's not you're fault sweetie. None of this is or has ever been you're fault" he said softly, rubbing her back as he kissed her head. "And as for you being sick? Never worry about coming to me for that. All three of you kids mean the world to me."

She nodded shakily, wiping at her eyes, wincing in pain. Everything hurt.

"What hurts baby?" Gaius asked now as he pulled back to look at her a little, feeling her forehead that was still burning.

"My head, stomach, my whole body actually."

Her father sighed and kissed her head, taking a damp washcloth that Matthew had brought, placing it on her forehead and cheeks gently.

"And you're heart?" he asked, looking down at his sad daughter.

Tears filled her eyes once more as memories flashed through her mind. Quintus' soft kisses, his hugs that always made her feel safe, the day he promised her that he would never hurt her, him calling her 'My Beautiful Hanna'. It was all too much for her and she found herself sobbing once more as her father pulled her back into his chest.

"I miss him so much!"

"I know baby, I know" Gaius sighed against her hair as he rubbed her back.

His daughter clung to him tighter than she ever had in the whole time that he had known her. Quintus had stolen her heart and Gaius knew what he and Hanna had was real and probably still was. He hadn't told her, but Quintus had been more volatile and angry as of late. Probably a front for missing her so much. As Gaius thought more and more about the situation, he knew what he had to do now.

"You can tell him."

Hanna looked up at her father now, her tired eyes gazing into his own. "You mean it?"

Gaius nodded and wiped away her tears. "With my whole heart I mean it."

She smiled softly now and kissed her father's cheek, hugging him tightly. "Thank you daddy."

"You're welcome sweetie" he said, standing up as he lifted her into his arms. "Let's get you home and in bed. You can heal for awhile and then you can tell him."

Hanna nodded and leaned against her dad as he carried her the whole way home. She fell asleep slowly as he did. Gaius kissed her forehead now as he looked down at his sleeping daughter before focusing on where he was going.

Quintus watched from the doorway to his office now, a sad look on his face as he looked at the girl whose heart he had broken two months ago asleep in her father's arms. Hanna looked so small and broken now and it brought tears to his eyes. He walked back into his office, picking up the small box that had been on his desk for weeks and looked at the beautiful ring inside of it. He knew he had to make this up to her.

Two weeks later, Hanna was somewhat better. Better enough to move around and get outside for a bit to visit Maya, which she was grateful for. She had found her friend in a large crowd as her father healed many people. But as soon as a religious leader came into view, Maya went into protection mode and ran over to her father, taking his hand.

Hanna felt a hand on her shoulder and smiled, turning to see her own father, smiling down at her. "Checking up on me daddy?"

"I was in the neighborhood" he said, hugging her close to him as they both watched Jesus from afar. "Maya's father is something else."

Hanna nodded happily, agreeing with him. She could watch Jesus heal people and preach to people all day long. She could see why Maya loved him so much. He seemed like a great father. But as soon as there was trouble, Jairus spoke up and suggested that people get back to their homes for they would soon be at risk for detainment.

"He's right!" Hanna's father exclaimed, letting her go as he walked into the crowd. "I suggest that everybody get back to their homes immediately!"

Hanna walked back to Maya and gave her a quick hug before the other girl ran off with her own father. And just as she was turning back to her's she could see the religious leader coming right at her.

Gaius noticed this and quickly jumped in front of his daughter, pointing his sword at the man. "Get away from my child and go back to you're home."

The man held his hands up and nodded, rushing away now. Gaius then put away his sword, turning back to a shocked Hanna, taking her face in his hands. "Are you okay honey?"

Hanna nodded a little dazed as her father led her away and down a side alley, taking her hand in his. They walked in silence for a few minutes before the girl spoke once more. "Daddy...you don't think Jesus could heal Evo do you?"

"I don't know sweetheart" he said honestly. He had thought about it, but he wasn't sure what Jesus would do for a Roman family. Hanna's best friend's father or not. "We'll have to see."

Once they were back on the main streets, a familiar voice sounded behind them, making Hanna's heart leap in her chest on instinct. "Just the two people I wanted to see!" Quintus said as father and daughter turned around to face him.

Hanna looked into Quintus' eyes hesitantly now, longing to just throw herself into his arms and never let go. But something held her back as she remembered when she had seen him last. She didn't know whether he would hurt her or not anymore. He noticed this and reached out slowly, his fingers brushing her cheek softly. "Hanna..."

She backed up into Gaius' arms and looked up at him now as he kissed her head. "Tell him everything. You can stay with him tonight."

She looked back to Quintus who had walked a little closer to her, being very careful not to scare her. He could see it in her eyes that she was terrified. "It's okay darling" he whispered softly. "Remember my promise? I'm sorry I broke it Hanna."

Tears sprung to her eyes as she rushed forward and kissed him, taking his face in her hands. She had missed the feel of his soft lips on her's. Quintus smiled and lifted her up into his arms, twirling her around as she kissed him, tears streaming down her face. He placed her down a few minutes later and ran his hands down her cheeks and down her arms taking her hands in his.

"You will be safe with me Hanna" he said softly, placing his forehead on her's.

She hugged him tightly now, her face buried in his shoulder. "Okay. Just let me say goodbye to daddy first."

Quintus nodded as she turned and ran into her father's arms happily, kissing his cheek. "Thank you daddy. I love you" she whispered softly as she turned and raced back to Quintus.

She kissed him once more as he took her hand gently and led her back to his place.

"I'm sorry" Hanna said softly a couple hours later as she sat on the table in the living room across from Quintus who was sitting on the couch in front of her.

"You have nothing to apologize for Hanna" Quintus said, squeezing her hands gently. "You're brother being sick is not you're fault and neither is the fact that you're dad told you to keep it silent. You were only following orders."

Her eyes filled with tears as she looked into his own. "I missed you so much Quintus...I don't know who I am without you."

He tugged on Hanna's hands a little as she got up and curled up in his lap. Quintus leaned back against a cushion and held her tightly in his arms as she wrapped her arms around his neck, placing her forehead on his cheek.

"I missed you too" he whispered into her ear gently as he stroked her hair and scratched her back soothingly. He kissed some of her tears away as she leaned into him more, wanting to be as close as possible.

They just sat there in silence for a few moments before Quintus spoke up once more, pushing her hair back behind her ear as he looked into her eyes. "And I don't know how many times I have to say it but I am sorry for saying those things to you that day in my office. I crossed a line and hurt you in the process. I will forever be sorry for that. I love you Hanna."

"I love you too Quintus" she whispered shakily as she kissed him, moving one of her hands to his cheek.

He pulled her closer to him if that was even possible, tightening his arms around her now as he deepened the kiss, intending to show her how much he loved her in that one moment. Tears streamed down her cheeks once more. Quintus moved his hands to her face now as he wiped them away with his thumbs. She let out a small sob once he broke the kiss, which broke his heart as he ran a hand through her hair. He couldn't believe he had caused this much damage and hurt her more on top of another bad situation.

"Shhh...I'm right here sweetheart" he whispered softly as he kissed her cheek softly, hiding his face in her hair for a couple minutes. "I have something for you that may make this situation better."

He rubbed his nose against her's for a moment before getting up and walking to a table close by. Hanna sat up, rubbing her arms, suddenly cold from the loss of contact. A small whimper escaped her lips, making Quintus look back at her now. "I'm coming right back Hanna."

He quickly grabbed the small box he had been looking for before walking back to her. Quintus sat down now, pulling Hanna right back into his lap, kissing her softly. He handed her the small box and smiled down at her, his forehead on her's. "Well...Go on and open it."

Hanna smiled and opened the box, gasping at what she saw inside. Was this actually happening? "Quintus?"

Quintus smiled as he took the ring out of the box, placing it on her finger gently before placing his hand on her cheek. "Hanna I love you and will never hurt you again. Will you marry me?"

Happy tears filled Hanna's eyes now as she nodded and wrapped her arms around his neck in a hug. "Yes!"
