AN: I literally dreamt this one up. The last names are made up. I have been figuring out what to do with Hanna and Quintus from the time I had decided that I would do Modern verses as well. This one was perfect!
Hanna had always been good at school. Good grades in almost everything. Except when it came to Latin. She hated the subject and hated the teacher, Mr. Sertorius even more. He always acted like he hated Hanna more than everyone else. Her brother however had been a different story according to him. Matthew had apparently been the teacher's pet and it made her curious as to why he loved Matthew and hated her.
Maybe it was because he and her adoptive father hated each other. Every parent teacher conference would end in an argument. Which bothered her for some reason. It wasn't like she liked the man or anything and she wanted him and her dad to get along. Hanna didn't know what it was but she was drawn to the man in some way and it bugged her.
As she and her three best friends sat down for lunch, Hanna sighed and rubbed her head, trying to get rid of the oncoming headache that she had from trying so hard in the class that they had last. "I swear this class is going to drive me insane!"
"He hates me too if it makes you feel any better" Maya said as she sipped on her Pepsi that she had gotten from the vending machine. "He finds daddy irritating. Probably because Matthew follows him around now."
Hanna rolled her eyes and sighed, taking a bite of her baked ziti. "Let's face it. The man hates all four of us and we are never going to wind up with good grades in that class."
Miriam and Rebekah's faces froze now and pointed behind Hanna, whose face went pale as she turned around to face the man that they had been talking about. Mr. Sertorius raised an eyebrow at the dark haired girl in front of him and she couldn't help but blush a little now as she stared into his dark eyes that were almost hypnotizing to her.
Oh no. This was not happening. "Hanna snap out of it! You cannot have a crush on you're teacher! Especially the one that hates you" she thought to herself.
She averted her gaze now as she looked down at her manicured nails. Anything to keep from falling for him. But it was already too late.
"Detention, Miss Octavius. After school with me this afternoon" he said simply, looking down at her. She was a beautiful girl he had to admit and if he wasn't her teacher, he would definitely pursue her. But he wouldn't be her teacher for long thankfully.
Hanna lifted her gaze back up at him now, nodding as she gazed into his eyes once more. "Yes sir" she said softly.
He nodded and took a glance at her three other friends. "Ladies" he said before walking away now.
Hanna sighed and turned, placing her head in her hands. "Could one of you three pick up Evo and Marius today and take them for ice cream?" she said miserably. She had promised her brothers that they could have a treat after school that afternoon, but now she had to spend time with her teacher instead.
"I'll do it" Miriam said, pushing some of her hair away from her face. "I need something better than this fish sandwich. My mom should start packing my lunches and not daddy."
All four girls laughed now, the current situation with Hanna and her teacher forgotten. But his and Hanna's story had only just begun.
Hanna walked into the Latin classroom after last period not knowing what to expect. The 18-year-old clutched her books to her chest as she silently walked to a seat avoiding her teacher's intense gaze. She wanted to avoid falling even more in love with him than she already was. Quintus looked at the girl curiously as she looked out the window now.
She was watching anything she could to get her mind off the man that was looking at her and as she did, Quintus noticed some things about her. The way the sun shined on her dark hair, giving it brown highlights, her beauty was truly surreal. The smile is what got him the most though. It was bright and full of life and he could watch her smile all day long.
He cleared his throat now as she turned and looked to him, the smile disappearing much to Quintus' disappointment. He found himself wanting to get to know the sister that Matthew had always talked about. He didn't want her to hate him and it hurt him somehow now that she thought that he did.
He grabbed the chair from behind his desk and walked over now, sitting across from Hanna as she looked at him warily. "Hanna why do you think I hate you?"
"Well maybe it's because you're just always so cold and you hate my dad. And my brother is gone now. So you must hate me."
"I'm sorry" he said softly. "Hanna it was never my intention to make you think I disliked you or your family. Or that I like you're brother better than you."
She looked up now into his eyes now and sighed softly. Quintus tilted his head a little before getting up and closing the door. He walked back over to her, sitting back down now as he took her hand, shocking her. Hanna felt sparks shoot through her now as she looked at the hand and then back up at Quintus now. "Look Mr..."
"Call me Quintus when we're alone" he said softly, cautiously brushing her hair out of her face.
This was going all too fast for Hanna to comprehend, but did she really want this to stop? All the boys in her class were so immature and Quintus was the quite opposite of that. Older and more mature. That was something she wanted if she was honest with herself. It was what her other three friends had. But Quintus was her teacher.
"But what about...You're a teacher. I'm a student."
"Hanna I won't be a teacher for long" he said, squeezing her hand gently as she looked at him curiously. Her dark brown eyes sparkling a little now.
"I have been going to Law School at night. I graduate next week. I already have a job as a magistrate lined up in town."
She smiled once more. That bright, happy smile he now couldn't get enough of and wanted to see everyday now. He couldn't help but lean over the desk and kiss her gently, pulling back as she looked at him dazed.
"Right, I think we can get out of here now" he said as he let go of her hand, watching Hanna as she got up and collected her books, slinging her bag over her shoulder.
Quintus wrote something down on a notecard before handing it to Hanna as she raised an eyebrow. For any other situation this woud have seemed weird, but she felt safe with Quintus for some reason.
"My address and number. Text or call me anytime you want to" he said, kissing her cheek softly.
"I will take you up on that!"
The two walked to the parking lot together now. Hanna noticed that there were only two cars left in the lot. Her's and his. They stopped for a moment and looked at each other, gazing into each other's eyes now before Hanna knew it, she had dumped her things on a bench and was pulled into his arms as she kissed him feverishly.
She didn't even know how fast all this had happened. This morning he was just her teacher and this afternoon she was practically falling in love with him. But it felt right. He felt right. After the rough time she had the past year before her father adopted her, she needed something good.
He was that something good.
