The whole family came in to check on Rosalie throughout the evening. I remained perched at her bedside, refusing to let go of her hand even though she was still sedated.

She started to stir in the early hours. She was disorientated and it took a few minutes for her to fully come around. She was struggling to adjust to the darkness of the room, but the bedside lamp was enough for her to see me. She tried to move to me but realized she was restrained. This caused her a moment of distress and then she seemed to remember the events leading up to this and she sank back against the bed.

"I'm so sorry, Rose." I felt so broken for her. "You'll see soon why we have to do this. It's all to help you get better. It'll be okay in the end, I promise."

"It's not your fault," she murmured quietly. She didn't say anything else. Tears were welling in her eyes, and I had to wipe them away because she couldn't do it herself.

We sat for a few moments in silence and then Rosalie told me she needed the toilet.

Red colored her cheeks in embarrassment, and I couldn't understand why until I realized she couldn't get up from the bed due to the restraints.

Esme and Alice had already made it to the top of the landing after hearing Rosalie's announcement, but we had to make out they hadn't heard it.

I made a point of shouting for them in the doorway, and they took an exaggerated few seconds to come into the room. "Rosalie needs some help going to the toilet."

"Be careful with her." Carlisle spoke normally from downstairs but everyone in the house could hear him, apart from Rose.

Esme

Emmett helped to undo the restraints holding Rosalie to the bed and then disconnected the feed. He was quick to also disconnect the monitors. Carlisle had taught him how to do that in preparation for the future feeds.

Alice and I helped support Rosalie to stand. She was quite unsteady on her feet and needed to lean heavily on us to walk. It was likely the sedatives were having an impact on her, as well as her fragile physical state.

Bella met us in the bathroom with a change of clothes for Rosalie as well as some supplies to freshen up.

I didn't know what to do at this point. I didn't want to let Rosalie go but she deserved to have privacy using the toilet and freshening up. I settled for allowing her some trust by lowering her to the toilet and stepping back slightly.

Alice was sifting through the toiletries to find a hairbrush and Bella had turned for a second to turn on the light.

I was looking away from Rosalie to allow her some privacy, but I could hear her finishing up on the toilet and she moved to place her hand on the wall to stand.

Rosalie was quick. As I looked towards her to support her, she had already positioned her other hand around the tube in her nose. Just as I reached her at human speed, she had already tugged hard on the tube, and it came flying out.

She gagged and coughed and fell to the floor from the movement. I was at her side instantly along with Alice. I hated that we couldn't use our vampire speed to ensure her safety.

Rosalie had landed on her knees and her face had smacked onto the hard tile in front of her.

Bella picked up the tube and threw it into the sink before kneeling down to lift up Rosalie's face.

There was blood coming out of her nose from where she had dislodged the tube but other than that she appeared okay. It was likely she had bruised her face and her knees from the impact.

Carlisle and Emmett were pressed against the bathroom door, but they knew not to come in as of yet as Rosalie was not decent.

The three of us supported her to freshen up and changed her into fresh pajamas – none of us spoke about what had just unfolded.

I was chiding myself for not being more careful. Carlisle had warned that this would happen and of course Rosalie would try to dislodge the tube the first chance she could get.

Rosalie was silent and still throughout and didn't protest against us helping her. Her eyes were glazed over as though she wasn't really with it. Her hands were shaking, and she didn't seem that aware that we were even there.

When we were done, Bella moved back downstairs to give Rosalie space so that Alice and I could support her back to the bed.

Alice practically dragged Emmett out of the bedroom and took him outside to get air when we were done. He was hurting to see Rosalie this way and some space would be helpful.

Carlisle had called for Edward's assistance to help put the restraints back on Rosalie and reassess the feeding situation. He inserted a new feeding tube and explained he used a bridle this time to hopefully reduce the likelihood of Rosalie dislodging it.

Rosalie was motionless throughout it all, and it scared me. She hadn't tried to resist the restraints or the tube. I was hoping that she was either exhausted, or she was starting to accept that this was what was happening.

Carlisle and Edward had a brief discussion about catheterization to reduce how much Rosalie came out of the restraints, but I reminded them that Rosalie couldn't be restrained long term and that she needed her dignity maintained as much as possible. The only solution was to hold Rosalie at all times when she came out of the restraints to ensure this was event was not repeated; at least until she was able to be trusted not to do it.

Edward moved to Rosalie's head and had a quick inspection of her injured nostril. He then asked Carlisle for his penlight and shone it in each of her eyes. "Rosalie?" He called softly.

Rosalie blinked but didn't look at Edward. Her eyes were fixed to the ceiling the entire time. Her breathing was labored but I feel it was linked to her moving around too much and the stress of dislodging the tube. Her body was struggling to keep up with her.

Carlisle finished checking her vital signs and touched Rosalie's cheek lightly. She flinched from the touch, potentially indicating she had injured that area of her face in the fall.

"No signs of concussion." Edward murmured quietly. "She's just a bit shocked."

Carlisle nodded. "There will probably be some bruising soon. Rosalie, I'm sorry it has to be this way. Please know I am only doing this because it is necessary for your safety and your health. You are very unwell and the only way for you to get better initially is for us to work on stabilizing your physical health. Do you understand?"

Rosalie looked at him now. She moved slowly but eventually nodded. "I'm sorry. I don't mean to be a burden. I don't mean to be difficult. I can't stop it. My mind is telling me not to eat, to starve and lose weight. I'm sorry."

"You'll never be a burden," I reached for her hand and she turned to look at me. "We are here to help you Rosalie. It'll be okay, it will. It just takes time. We need to take it one step at a time."

"The restraints are a short-term use. I don't feel comfortable using them but pulling out your tube is going to cause trauma to your body. I need to be sure that won't continue. Your physical health is too vulnerable at the moment to risk that. I know you understand that deep down, Rosalie." Carlisle sighed. This was hard for him. I could tell. Rosalie was having an impact on him in the same way Bella had when we first looked after her as a human.

We had all fallen in love with this fragile human in front of us and we had to do everything we could to save her. Emmett needed her now.
