Jason woke up on horseback. Again with getting knocked out. Percy and Leo used to make fun of him for the amount of times he got knocked out on their many adventures together.
Leo…
He tried to move, but everything hurt. It took all his strength to stay on the horse he was riding. The one steering the horse looked back.
Short blonde hair and another pair of blue eyes greeted him. "You're awake! I thought for sure you had died, but I had to check just in case. When I heard your heart beating I was shocked."
His voice caught him off guard. How young was this boy? Fourteen, maybe fifteen? What is Plutos name was he doing riding a horse in the middle of nowhere?
The boy looked forward. "I don't know what a civilian is doing outside the walls, but I couldn't leave you to be titan fodder. Once this mission is over, we'll get you back home."
Civilian? Walls? TITAN!
Jason broke his silence. "Did you just say Titan?"
The boy answered wearily. "Yes… we're chasing one right now." The boy pointed forward.
Jason slowly turned his eyes towards what the boy was after. The female monster that kicked him before was right in front of them, sprinting towards… something.
"That's not a titan." Jason blurted out.
The boy snapped his head back confused. "What…?" before he could ask his question, someone beside them called out.
"Armin!" Yelled the newcomer. The salmon haired boy rode up next to Jason's left. He was wearing a green hood with some symbol on the back of it that he couldn't make out. He had strange metal boxes attached to his hip. He was also riding a horse.
"Jean!" Yelled the boy in front of him.
"Are you alright? Where are your superior officers?"
"I'm all right! The others were…" He had a dark expression on his face.
"Dammit! What are we gonna do!" Salmon haired then proceeded to stare at Jason. "Who the hell is this guy?"
Before that question could be answered, another horse rode up next to them, this time to Jason's right.
The two exclaimed. "Reiner!"
The one called Reiner also had blond hair, but his was a lighter color, and he had a buzz cut. He was bulkier than the other two. Despite this, he wore the same outfit that the other two had on.
A uniform?
"Is that an abnormal titan?" Reiner asked.
The one called Armin lamented on the question.
"No. I believe that she's a human that can turn into a titan, just like Eren."
"What makes you say that?" Reiner asked.
"Earlier, instead of killing me, she took off my hood. Like she was looking for someone specific. She also didn't eat the other officers, she just killed them. I think she's after someone."
"Who?" Jean asked.
"I think she's after Eren."
And the conversation went on, however Jason couldn't keep up. There were too many words he didn't understand, and he had a sinking feeling this group of kids wasn't talking about the Titan's he knew. Something was wrong. Very wrong.
If these guys could see that monster, then that means the mist wasn't working. Not only that, but his powers were moot. He tried to summon a storm, but nothing was coming. What in the world was happening.
"Where is Eren then?" Reiner asked.
For some strange reason, this specific question got Jason out of his head. Maybe if I try and keep up, I can figure out what's going on without putting these mortals in danger.
They rode in silence for a bit. The boy in front of him answered.
"He's most likely in the center back of the formation. That's the safest place to be on a mission like this."
Jean interjected. "That's great Armin, but who the hell is behind you?"
Both Armin and Reiner looked at Jason.
"I was so focused on the titan I didn't even notice him. What are you doing without your gear?" Reiner's question was directed at him.
"He's not a scout Reiner, look at his clothes." Armin pointed out.
All four looked at his get up. An orange Camp-Half Blood t-shirt and a pair of blue jeans was all that covered Jason. Jason didn't remember putting this outfit on. Then again, he couldn't remember anything before he woke up in this strange place.
He felt like this was Hera's doing, but something told him it wasn't. Last time she did this, he was wearing his purple Camp Jupiter shirt. Why Camp Half-Blood?
Jean interjected again. "That still doesn't answer my question Armin! Who is he? An ally? An enemy? You don't find people sitting outside of the walls, that's impossible."
Again with the wall?
"Jean is right, Armin. This man could be an enemy."
Jason didn't know what to say. He didn't understand the question in the first place. Everything was so confusing, he had no idea what to do.
"He's definitely an ally!" Armin replied.
Jason was confused. So were Armins friends.
"After lifting my hood, the Female Titan saw something in the distance and went after it. Following her, I saw this man ready to fight her. Of course, having no ODM gear, he had no chance of defeating her. She kicked him. I thought he was dead for sure, but when I went to check, he was still breathing. If it wasn't for him the Female Titan would have hurt me. I guarantee it."
All the riders were silent. Jason knew the kid was lying. He hadn't seen him near that monster he kept calling a titan. She charged Jason from a distance. Why was he covering for him? Jason was sure the two wouldn't buy his story. But then…
"Who the hell faces a titan with no ODM gear? Are you an idiot?" Jean said, breaking the silence.
"You have my thanks, stranger." Reiner smiled at Jason.
Armin sighed in relief.
Jason, still confused, replied to Reiner. "No problem. It's kinda what I do."
"Really? And what is that exactly?" The bulky rider asked cheekily.
"Save people."
Once again, silence filled the air.
"Armin, why do all the people you hang around full of themselves?" Jean asked.
"Jean… that's not a nice thing to say." Armin replied
Jason felt insulted.
Reiner gave a hearty laugh. "I wish we could continue this conversation, mister…"
"Jason Grace is my name. But you can call me Jason."
"Jason. But we have to deal with the problem in front of us. How should we deal with the Female Titan, Armin? Should we wait and see what she does?"
"No." Armin said with determination. "We have to try and slow it down. Me and Jean can distract it while you…"
"You don't plan on attacking that monster!" Jason exclaimed.
"It's the only way to stop it! If it finds out where Eren is, humanity won't have a chance against the titans." Jason could see Armin's determination in his eyes. But there was a hint of worry in his voice. Did he know this Eren personally?
The pain was leaving his body. This was new. Jason rolled his throwing shoulder.
"So, we just need to kill this monster?"
"Not kill! Slowdown! Maybe even capture.. If Jean and I distract her and Reiner goes for the base of her neck, then maybe we'll have a chance."
Jason may not have understood what was going on. But he did know one thing. Armin was willing to do anything to save this Eren kid. Even if it meant dying. Jason wasn't going to let these mortals die fighting something that he should have beaten earlier.
He began stretching his arms.
"The base of her neck is her weakness?"
"Yes but…"
Jason hopped off Armins horse. The three soldiers yelled after him. His feet slid on the grass. For some reason energy was surging inside him. He began running towards the monster, speeding past the three horses. This is new. He thought to himself.
He admired Armin's resolve to protect Eren. If only he had the same resolve back then. Maybe he could have saved Leo.
Running past the female titan he flipped his golden coin. Tails. His golden javelin glistened in the sunlight. The energy he built up left his body as he threw the electrified javelin. Jason's javelin hit the Female Titan in her right eye.
