Chapter 4: Friends' night out
"Alright, so where are going first?"
"Well, I think we should start with by going to the plaza, then to the main gate, and finally to the street where my house is. Then, you'll never get lost just in case you have to go alone somewhere"
"I'm a responsible adult, you know? I can handle myself"
"Well, I wouldn't go as far as responsible" Kit commented, the distrust from before having faded away.
"You are one to talk!" I yelled with a smirk.
"Alright, let's start already! We shouldn't stay out until too late! The time when most criminal activity happens is past midnight, so we should be at home around that time. We'll come back to this street last, and after I show you it, we'll have something at a bar. You guys okay with that?" Ember asked.
"Sounds good" I said.
"Sure" Kit added.
Following the Braixen, we walked to the plaza with its small fountain that comprised the center of the town and then headed towards the wide street that led to the exit of the town.
After some time, and a relatively silent trip, we arrived at a gate where some Pokémon where guarding the entrance to the town.
"This is the main entrance and exit to the town. The 'mons guarding it are hired by the mayor himself to protect the town. And there are more small patrols around the perimeter of the city. Getting in is not easy" Ember explained.
Kit scoffed. "That's what you say. I'm sure a well done illusion can distract the guards enough for anyone to sneak in without getting noticed"
"You think that the guards are that dumb?" I questioned.
"No he doesn't. He just wants to pretend that he's the best at doing his illusions" Ember said.
"And I am. That's why they are my illusions and not anyone else's" he replied.
Chuckling, I took another glance at the gate. There were indeed tenths of Pokémon guarding it. A Machoke and a Raichu were playing with what looked like cards on top of a box. An Ampharos that was carrying some sort of wooden spear with a metal tip was directing a group of Raticate to do something I couldn't manage to hear.
"What I was saying..." Ember finished the discussion. "Is that it's hard to evade all of the security and enter without anyone noticing you. That's why they were so feared"
"They? Who's they?"
Ember shuddered, but didn't say anything. Kit sighed and answered me. "Very bad Pokémon. I'm sure you will learn about them when you become an explorer"
Ember perked up. "Become a what?"
"Didn I forget to tell you? I always liked helping people, and I thought that joining or forming an explorer team didn't sound like a bad idea for a job once I can fight! And also it may help me with my memory. Isn't it great?"
She forced a smile and tried to sound natural. "That's great. I'm sure you'll manage to get in one once you learn a move!" She was gritting her teeth so hard, they could break.
"Ummm... Ember, are you okay?"
"Of course I am! Now let's go, we have a lot of things to see and not too much time" Despite what she said, I could feel that she was not okay at all.
"What did I tell you? I think she doesn't want you to become an explorer so that whatever happened doesn't repeat. We have to find out what that was exactly " Kit whispered to my ear.
I nodded. I was going to help my friend, no matter what. We turned around, giving our back to the gate, and started walking back. Not too far from where we just were, there was a big black building with some small yellow accents.
"This is the bank. Everyone stores their savings here"
"Pretty much what a bank is" I said.
"You would be surprised by the amount of uses a building can have. You'll see"
I nodded and we continued. There were some houses here, but not like the ones that I'd seen before near where Ember lives. These ones were big. We didn't stay too long looking at them, however.
Up next was a building that had a gigantic sign popping out of it. The text in it was illuminated. The building itself was tall and had loads of windows, all of them being different rooms.
"This is the hotel. All of the travelers, tourists and wandering merchants stay here to pass the night. It's much less expensive than renting an apartment"
"When I first came into this town, I spent some nights here with the little money I had. The rooms have just what you need to live: A bed, a bathroom and a small kitchen too cook your food" Kit said.
"Where did you work before the dojo?" I asked.
He tensed up. "I don't want to talk about it"
I looked at Ember, and she just shrugged.
We continued walking down the street. Just a turn before the plaza, I saw our last stop. It was impossible not to. The building was a astonishingly decorated building. It was big, and looked sturdy enough to handle three hurricanes. It had a big plate with a drawing, which I couldn't clearly see from my position. It also had a flag hanging: Its lower part was blue, and it had a sea wave pattern crossing through the middle. The upper part had green, white, orange and grey rectangles, all of them taking the same amount of space. On top of all of that, there were two swords crossing over a shield.
"This is the town hall. Breath taking, isn't it? The mayor ordered a complete renovation of the building after the old mayor...got replaced. He truly deserves this and more. He's the best mayor we ever had in a really long time, ever since the old one...retired"
And I thought we humans were special.
I nodded, but when I took a quick look at Kit, he had begun to shiver slightly.
"What do the colors of the flag represent?" I asked Ember, shrugging that off.
"That's the flag of the Water Continent. The big blue square and the wave pattern represent it, while the rest of the colors represent the other continents. Green is grass, orange is sand, white is wind and grey is mist. The blue part is bigger because this is the water continent. For example, the Grass Continent's flag has the biggest square green with a leaf pattern, and so on"
"And the shield and swords?"
"It represents a great war that happened a long time ago between all the continents. Was that the...second one? I believe so"
"God, that sounds awful..."
"Yeah, but thanks to it, a lot of new laws have been stablished. There hasn't been any major global conflicts since"
"That's good to know"
God, two world wars? That sounds awfully familiar.
"Alright, I'll show you the way to my house now"
Leaving the town hall and the plaza behind, we walked through more streets and finally arrived at Ember's house. "Did you get it? You just have to find the plaza and then walk the opposite side of the town hall"
"Yeah, got it"
"Alright, come on guys! Time for my favourite part of town!" Exclaimed Kit while walking back where we came from. "It's time for some party!"
"Wait for me!" Ember yelled while running behind him.
Chuckling I was about to follow behind her, but suddenly, I felt a someone around me, making me freeze in place. It was as if someone was watching me. Whipping my head around I quickly looked behind, but saw no one.
What the?! What was that?! Am I... Am I imagining things? Hopefully not. Should I tell Ember and Kit? Probably not now. I don't want to ruin the night.
I looked to my sides repeteadly to confirm there was no one in sight. When I squinted my eyes though, I saw a pair of yellow eyes with crimson irises looking at me, and what looked like the tip of a magenta pointy hat.
As soon as I blinked, whatever that was was gone.
What?! Was that real? Am I going crazy?!
"Jake! Are you coming?" I heard Ember yell.
"Y-Yeah..." I said walking without stopping looking back.
"Are you ok?" She asked, the moment I arrived beside them
"I-...Yeah. Let's just get out of here. Fast"
With that strange event in mind, we headed back to the dojo's street, where it and all the 'fun stuff' (as stated by Kit) were.
Despite tomorrow being Sunday, it was not as crowded as you would expect for a street that mainly consists of bars and restaurants. Was this criminal problem really that of an issue?
"Alright, so apart of what you've already seen, there's not much else here. So, how should we start this night? I'd suggest going to the casino for a bit, but I don't think you've got a lot of money to spend, do ya, Jakey?"
"Why don't we go have something? Like a drink? Maybe we can talk about something?" I suggested.
"Sounds good to me" Said Ember.
"Same. I know a bar where there is a good bunch of drinks to choose from" said Kit.
We walked through the semi-crowded street towards a building that had some small illuminated sign hanging. I tried to make sense to those weird letters, but still nothing. Kit took notice of my inability to read.
"So not only you forget how to use basic abilities, but you don't know how to read either? Really, who are you?" Said Kit.
"Can we get in, please?" Interrupted Ember.
"Yes, please" I said.
After he rolled his eyes, we followed Kit inside. It was a small bar with a few Pokémon drinking on the tables, with a Grapploct behind the counter, cleaning some glasses.
"Hey, Lance! How you doin'?"
The fighting type perked up at Kit's voice and looked at the three of us.
"Ah, Kit! Welcome! You brought some friends today, I see!"
"More like they brought me with them..."
He chuckled. "Doesn't matter. Pick a table and I'll go in a moment to take your orders"
Nodding, we walked further in and sat on a small table, in front of one of the windows. Kit sat in front of Ember and me. Lance came to our table with a block of notes shortly after.
"So what will it be?"
"I'll take some Totter Seed juice" said Kit.
"Make that two" added Ember.
"Ummm" I had no idea what to order. I hadn't ever drunk alcohol and I didn't know how it would affect me. Totter Seed juice didn't sound very different to alcohol, and I didn't want to risk being drunk.
"Make it three" I finally said
There's always a first time for everything, right? I can always stop drinking whenever I want.
Lance nodded and headed to the kitchen behind the counter.
"You ordered Totter Seed juice? You better not be drunk after this! I refuse to carry you!" Said Kit.
"Relax. I'm sure it's not the first time he tried it, is it?" said Ember.
"It...actually is"
"In that case, I'm not carrying you either!"
All three of us laughed at that. Having a bit of fun was just what I needed after that fal-
You know what? No more thinking about that. It's time to move on.
Before long, our orders arrived. The glasses were full of some cream and orange colored liquid. It didn't look too appetizing but it also didn't look bad either.
"Alright, guys! Time to drink!" said Ember
"Yeah! I thought you'd never say that!" Replied Kit.
"Let's go!" I added.
"Cheers!" We yelled in unison before we drank a sip. The drink was not bad, in fact, it was quite pleasant. It was a both sweet and a bit salty. My suspicions about the drink's similarities with alcohol were confirmed when my head began aching.
"Damn! This is some strong drink! My head hurts..."
"I see it is indeed your first time" Teased Kit. "Totter Seeds are supposed to confuse anyone that eats then, so the 'mons that work at making the drinks have to be careful! Don't worry you'll probably get used to it"
I nodded and took another sip. It didn't affect me as much as before, so its taste was more appreciable.
"Don't you dare get drunk this soon! We gotta have at least another two rounds tonight!" Ember said.
"Never expected you of all people to say that" I said.
She chuckled. "Even serious 'mon need some party from time to time!" Kit mumbled something I couldn't hear, before both of them took another sip of their drinks. The two Pokémon started conversing about what they had been doing for the past year. Apparently work was too much for them to hang out together and they never managed to find a way to meet.
Of course, I didn't have anything to add. Kit seemed to notice my silence and decided to include me in the conversation.
"Hey, Jake! Don't stand there in silence! Your beautiful voice is too precious for us not to hear it! I know, how about we play a game?" He said.
"A game? Like what?" I answered.
"Like a trivia of some sorts! We've only known each other for 2 days, 3 in Ember's case, so I want to know more about you. I'm sure you want to know more about us too, don't ya?"
"That's a great idea! You start, though" I said.
"Sure, what do you want to know?"
"What did you do before working at the dojo?"
"You really want to know that, huh? Did some business with an...old friend. Not too proud of some of them, but that's in the past"
"That's a vague answer, but I guess it'll do"
"My turn!" Ember chimed in. "How did you evolve? Seeing the skill you have at fighting, you must have dealt with some pretty strong enemies while you were 'doing some business'"
Kit shuddered. "I don't want to talk about it. In fact, it's a memory I'm trying to erase"
"Oh. I'm sorry" She apologized, looking away.
Kit quickly shook his head and smiled. "It's okay. After all, I was the one that suggested this game. I'm surprised you didn't ask it before, though. Now, if that's everything, it's Ember's turn! You also got some trivia I want to know"
She nodded. Kit looked at me and winked. "Alright, Ember. I'll repeat your question. How did you evolve? You are not the best at fighting, if I dare say so"
I don't know if it was just my imagination, but I think Ember's mouth twitched a bit.
"Pretty boring, actually. You know, just how non-fighters evolve: By growing up. Boring, but that's how most of us evolve here. Not everyone can spend enough time training to be able to evolve prematurely"
"So, to evolve again with your current lifestyle, how old do you have to be?" I asked.
"When my body decides it's mature enough, I'll evolve into a magestic Delphox...that will still be working in Agatha's store... Not complaining, though. At least then I may be able to help Aiden with his boxes, though, I doubt he'll need it"
I took another sip of the drink. This thing is so good! It definitely doesn't taste like a beer.
"Your turn, Jake. Ask" Ember said.
I looked at Kit. He nodded.
What to say? I can't just ask her "What incident did you have that put you off exploring?"! I have to think...
"What was your childhood dream?"
Now I saw it. Her mouth twitched. "I-"
She sighed and quickly put a small forced smile. "Believe it or not, I always wanted to be an explorer. But when I grew up, I quickly realized I was not fit for that"
"Did something happen? You can tell us!" I quickly said.
"Nothing. Can we continue?"
Both Kit and I sighed. It wasn't going to be this easy.
"Alright, then, my turn. Wanna start, Ember?"
"Sure"
She took a while to think about her question. Probably because she needed to ask something that wouldn't reveal my origin story.
"I know you are amnesiac, but do you remember something about who you were, or any family members?" She finally said.
"Pretty sure you asked that same question back when we first met"
"I know. I just wanna know if something changed"
Alright, what can I answer? I can just say I remember nothing, but that wouldn't be fair. I'll have to watch my mouth.
"Alright. So I don't remember a lot about my family, but I think I had some friends named Nate, Cheren and Bianca. They were very good people to be around"
"Strange names, huh? What 'mon are they?" Asked Kit.
What 'mon?! I don't know! Quick, think! Just pick random Pokémon!
"Nate's a Munna, Cheren is a Liepard, and Bianca a Simisage"
"Interesting...Anything else? Something about you, maybe?" Said Ember.
"I don't really remember much about me. All I know is that I was living a regular life until, well, you know, this happened. Don't regret it though. Met some nice people along the way"
"Geez, thanks!"
"So what is your question, Kit?" Ember asked the dark type.
"Well, my question may be a bit personal, but it's about you, Jake. In general. You speak with words that I didn't know existed, act as if everything you are seeing is completely new to you, and most importantly, forgot how to use your aura sense. That's impossible, no matter how much I try to deny it"
I felt my face go pale, and even though Ember's face fur was already white in color, I could see that the same happened to her.
There was no escape from this one.
"So Jake. My question is simple: Where in Giratina's domain did you come from?"
"Uhhh... I don't know. I can't remember where I'm from exactly..."
"So you can't remember where you come from, but you can remember your friends? That doesn't sound very convincing"
This guy's got me trapped in a corner! There's no way I'm going around this. But I can't just tell him here! There's too many Pokémon here. God, how am I going to get out of this one?
As I was about to speak, however, Kit interrupted me, giving his drink another sip. "But again, if you don't wanna talk about it, I'm not gonna pressure you. We aren't the closest of friends, so I'll respect your privacy"
I nervously chuckled and nodded, before I drank what remained of my drink, Ember following suit.
"You seem to really like it" Said Ember trying to change the topic.
"Yeah. Honestly, it's nothing like what we have back home"
"Hmm" Hummed Kit.
The trivia game stopped there and didn't continue any further. Once Kit finished his Totter Seed juice, he looked at us. "I feel like another round. What about you guys?"
"Absolutely!" Ember replied.
"Sure. I don't see why not" I added.
Lance was quick to come to our table, and also to bring our second round of drinks. I could already feel how once we had drunk half of the glass, the mood seemed to enlighten. We were having fun, and that was what mattered.
Kit ordered a third round, but I opted to stay out this time. I already had enough drinks for today.
Ember and Kit told me a bit about their lives, and how they used to spend more time together than they do today. Ember also gave me some basic info on this town disguised as histories and happenings.
"I swear, that time when that merchant dropped half of his items without realizing it was so funny!" Ember laughed, finishing her third drink.
"Yeah. Thankfully, someone told him about it or he would have arrived at the next town with nothing to sell!" Kit added, also finishing his drink.
"Imagine! A merchant without anything to sell! Soooo funny!" The Braixen laughed again.
"Alright, that's enough for tonight here! I'll make you guys a favour and pay today, but don't make it a habit! Lance! Mind bringing us the bill?"
The Grapploct walked toward our table and handed Kit a paper, to which he handed a few coins. "Thanks, bud!"
"Thanks to you, Kit!"
Lance was about to turn around, but Ember stopped him. "Nuh uh! I'm not done yet! Give me another one!"
"Ember, are you sure about that? I think you already drank enough for today, don't you think?" I asked her, but she just turned to look at me.
"I am the only one that decides when I drank enough! Lance, please, bring me another one!"
Once the drink was on the table, Ember immediately chugged half of the glass, before she hickupped.
"Ember, I think you shouldn't drink it..." Kit tried to reason with her, but to no avail.
"I've been under so much stress recently! I des-" Another hickup. "I deserve some time to relax! So yes, I'm going to drink this! And more if I feel like it!"
"Ember..." I turned towards Kit. "Is she drunk?"
"She is, yeah. Totter Seed juice can be really strong if you are not used to it and drink a lot of it. It's just a guess, but I think Ember hasn't drank any of it in a long time, and she never had a lot of tolerance with it..."
"We are not going to let her drink a fifth one, right?"
"Oh, absolutely"
We watched patiently as Ember mumbled random words before finishing her drink. She tried to call Lance to give her another one, but we somehow convinced her against it.
After helping stand up from her seat, we exited the bar carrying her on our shoulders. Her occasional twitching and tripping didn't make it easy.
"Woah! Easy there!" Kit exclaimed after she almost fell.
"Let's take her to the plaza. We'll wait until she's in a better condition and I can take her home later" I suggested.
"You gonna take me hoooome? What are you, my boyfriend or something like that, or whaaaat?"
"Just a friend that's trying not to let you fall while we take you to the plaza!" I replied back, trying to hide the slight redness in my face. Did she forget about us this fast?
"The plazaaa...? Why though? There's nothing to do there! I want to do something with Kit and... what was your name again? Something likeeeee... Jake! Yeah! That's a really strange name, dude! Where are you from?"
"I don't know"
"'I don't know'? That's a strange name for a place..."
We finally arrived at our destination, and we took a bench for us to sit. We left Ember sitting in between us, her face with a smile and unfocused eyes as he leaned on me. Both Kit and I sighed with relief and took a good look around. The most prominent feature was the fountain, as it was illuminated and looked amazing in this time of the day.
We sat in silence, Ember's head still unmoving, but now looking at an specific place.
She was looking at the stars above us. "Hey, Jake boy. Take a look at thoseee! Aren't they pretty?" She asked, pointing at the sky, making me look. The night sky was breathtaking. Lots of beautiful stars of different shapes and colors were shining. The lights that surrounded us was strong enough to make most of the stars invisible, but what could still be seen was amazing.
"I could stay like this for hours... You are surprisingly comfortable for a-" A hickup. "For a steel type. Are you compleeeetely sure that you aren't my boyfriend? Like, for sureee?"
"Wha- Where is this coming from?! I already told you I'm not!" I yelled, all flustered.
"Oh yeah? Then why are you letting me stay like this, huh?" Another hickup interrupted her. "If the roles were reversed, I wouldn't just let anyone lean on me like this if they weren't my boyfriend!" She yelled, her voice cracking a few times.
Kit was resisting his urge to laugh, which only made my cheeks even more red. "It's because you are drunk, okay? Nothing else!"
"Huh?! I'm drunk?! What makes you say that?" The fire type yelled again, sounding offended, before another hickup left her mouth.
I lightly chuckled at that, before going back to gazing at the stars. We spent some more time in silence, only interrupted by Ember's occasional hickups.
"Hey, Kake and Jit who is apparently not my boyfriend, can I tell you guys something?"
"Sure, go ahead"
"I used to look at the stars with my parents when I was young..." A hickup. "They taught me all they knew about the sky. It was one of the best times of the day, when the three of us enjoyed chilling on the grass. Together" She said.
It was subtle, but I thought I saw something on her eye. That looks like a tear. Is she crying?
I looked at Kit. He looked back, and we both nodded. I don't like what I'm about to do, but there won't be another time like this. It's now or never.
"Ember"
"Yeah, uhhh... I forgot your name?"
"It's Jake. Ember, are you okay?"
My aura sense picked something coming from her. Of course, it was subtle compared to the mess that was her head right now, but it was there. "Of course I am! I feel soooo gooood!"
"Ember" I said again, trying to sound serious.
"Oh, come on, dude! Don't be so serious! Smile some more!" She answered, standing upright and using her hands to curl my lips into a smile.
I sighed. "Look, I know that we only met each other three days ago, but-"
"Three days?! You must be very good at flirting if you are my boyfriend so soon!" She interrupted.
I'm not-! Ugh, listen! You are my friend. You saved my life, and now I want to help you too"
The fire type tilted her head. "Help me? Why? I feel fineeee..."
"Look, I know that you are drunk and that I shouldn't be asking this when you are like this, but..." I looked at Kit, and he nodded.
"We know that you don't like exploring because something happened when you were young. Kit told me that he only knew it involved your family, somehow. I don't know what happened, but I can already take a guess that it involves your parents in some way. I just know that it must have been hard for you. Heck! You told us that your childhood dream was to become an explorer! And now you can't even talk about them! I just want to know you are alright, and Kit also wants that, but we can't know how if you don't tell us what happened!"
...
...
Silence filled the air as I waited for any response coming from the Braixen. Her face slowly turned from what a drunk person's face would look like to a frown.
"Youuu... How long have you known?"
"Since when Kit had to stop talking about exploring when you came through the door. I knew something was up. I'm sorry that I didn't ask you that time, but I was afraid you would get angry!"
...
She didn't seem to like what I just said. "Angryyy? The only thing that makes me angry are 'mons keeping secrets!"
"Ember, calm down. We are just trying to help you! But we need you to tell us what happened!" Suddenly yelled Kit.
"You toooo? I can't remember when or why I told you about it, but it's noooothing!" She yelled, standing up.
"Ember! You were crying just a second ago! If it was nothing, then why did your dream suddenly change from being an explorer? Why are you so reluctant to talk about it? Why are we even having this conversation?! Please, Ember. Of course we would worry about you. You are our friend, and we will always be there to help. But we need you to tell us what happened! Is it really that hard?!"
...
Tears started falling from her eyes.
"IF IT IS HARD?! You know what it feels like to looose the only family that you have because of your mistakes?! You know how hard it is to keep moooving forwards as if nothing happened, knowing it is your fault, and only your fauuult?! DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS, BOTH OF YOU?!"
Silence. No one said anything.
Ember suddenly closed her eyes and started running away. Despite her tumbling she was too fast to catch her.
"Ember, wait!" I yelled.
She didn't stop and kept running until she was out of view. "Ember..."
"Was-Was it my fault? Should we really have asked her about it while she was drunk?"
Kit just sighed and got up. "It wasn't your fault, Jake. If anything, it's mine. We really could have picked another time for this..."
He then smiled. A small, forced smile. "But at least it's not all bad! Now we know something. She lost part of her family. And I really think that it has something to do with her parents. That's why she doesn't want to talk about it. She thinks it was her fault, and she feels too guilty to just move on"
"But was it really worth it? She just ran away! Drunk! What if she doesn't make it back?"
"That's why we will follow her. Once we make sure she's at home, I'll let you sleep in my place tonight. The best we can do for now is leave her some space"
"...Sure"
We should have just kept our mouths shut. Now Ember's sad, and it's our fault.
Kit noticed my uneasiness. "Hey Jake, relax, she will be ok. She just needs some time for herself. Come on, it's getting late"
Just before we could begin walking, a familiar figure came running to the plaza. "Hey! Jake! Kit!" Damian shouted.
"Damian? What are you doing here? I asked.
"Well, I was just taking a walk and saw Ember tumbling her way home, so I came here to see if everything was alright!"
"We were just hanging out and she drank a bit too much. We...just had a small argument that didn't end too well. We were just about to follow her to see if she was alright"
"Yeah. Jake is going to spend this night at my place. We think she just needs some space" Kit added.
"I see... Well, I could go myself and keep an eye on her until she goes to sleep"
"No way. It's our mess, and we are the ones that are going to clean it" I instantly refused.
"It is really not much problem for me. You already seem to be exhausted from your training today, and this...argument of yours has only added to that. So please, go have some rest" The Absol calmly stated.
I was about to refuse once again, but Kit put a claw on my shoulder before I could speak. "Alright, Damian. If you want, go after her. Thanks"
"No problem at all. Have a good night!" He yelled, going back where he just came from.
I turned to look at Kit. "Are you sure we should have agreed? I still feel guilty"
"And that's exactly why we are letting Damian go after her. You need some rest too, Jakey. Come on, let's go to my house. I'm really tired today, probably because all of that fighting we did today"
"Yeah, I'm also tired. Let's go"
Kit's house was in a street not too far away from the dojo, something that made sense if he worked there. It was a tall building that had a lot of apartments inside.
"Here we are. Not much, but it will do. Sorry for the mess here, I don't really have the time to be very organized. If you were wondering, Jacques lives just in front"
Kit wasn't lying about the 'mess' part. His apartment was small, much like Ember's house, but the floor was so full of things that I could hardly see it.
"Alright, are you hungry?"
I shook my head. My apetite was practically nonexistant for some reason. "Ok then, don't worry. I am not too hungry either. Let's just go straight to bed"
I took a quick look at his sofa, and I saw it was full of papers, and what seemed to be blankets and an...MP3?
What's this doing here? I thought they had no technology at all! I should ask Kit about it tomorrow.
"I see you like my sofa! Don't worry, you aren't sleeping there tonight. If I tried to tidy everything up now, the Sun will rise before we finish! Luckily for you, I have a double bed in my bedroom. I took it from my last place where I had a...roommate. Yeah, a roommate"
I nodded and walked into his bedroom. It was smaller than what I had thought, but it was not small enough to make me feel to caged. The bed was in the middle and there were two small tables on each side.
One of them had a picture sitting on top. I walked towards it and picked it up. It depicted a rather childish looking Zorua wearing the same pendant that Kit had, making faces at the camera. The photo seemed to be teared in half.
"Is this you?" I said while showing him the photo.
He smiled. "Ahh, the good ol' times. Back when I was just a teenager..."
"Why is it torn?"
He tensed up. "The other 'mon in that picture and me...had some personal issues. I was angry at that time and didn't think straight, so I teared it apart"
"Oh. Sorry I asked" I said while leaving the photo back where I picked it.
"Don't worry, let's just go to sleep. I'm so tired I could faint right here. By the way, this is my side of the bed. You've got the whole other side for you. Be aware though, I sometimes snore while I sleep!"
"You better not! I swear I will wake you up with a slap if it's necessary!" I joked while getting under the sheets.
Kit also got into the bed. When he laid down, though, he slapped his long mane on my face. "Oops! Didn't see you there!"
"Stop!"
He chuckled and switched off the lights.
"Night, Jakey"
"Goodnight Kit. Thanks for letting me sleep here"
"No problem"
With that, silence fell over the room
I closed my eyes, trying to sleep, but I kept overthinking about what just happened. I was rolling inside the sheets, trying to find a position to sleep, but to no avail.
"Jake, please, stop thinking about it. I'm sure she'll be fine. It wasn't your fault. Just rest now"
"Right"
I should just sleep. If he says that it's no big deal, it isn't. I hope Ember is ok.
And with that, I fell asleep, thinking about what I would do the next day.
"Are you sure that Lucario is him?"
"Almost certain. No one forgets those basic things, no matter how and amnesia you have"
"I'll have to watch him a bit more then. Thanks for the information"
