Chapter 5: Rookie rescuers
When I woke up, I wasn't inside Kit's bed. Instead, all I could see was a black void. Suddenly, and from nowhere and everywhere at the same time, a voice began speaking
"Jake..." It was soothing, in a way that made me relax, and made all my nervousness disappear.
"Jake..." It called again. "Can you hear me?"
"Jake!"
My eyes shot open and I started gasping for air the moment I woke up.
I heard something in my sleep. A voice. I think it was calling my name? I am definitely going crazy.
Kit seemed to have woken up too from my sudden jolt. Messy hair didn't look good on him at all.
"Morning, Jakey. Had a nightmare?" He said groggily, rubbing his eyes.
"No, just a strange dream. By the way, have you seen your hair?"
"You think that my mane is naturally combed? Do you know what brushing this much fur does to someone?"
I smirked. "Gotta be handsome for the laidies~"
He laughed. "Come on, let's get up. We still got something pending, don't we?"
My face went pale when I remembered what happened yesterday. "I forgot about that"
"Alright, just wait for me in the living room. I have to brush my fur, and it can take some time, since, as you said, I gotta be handsome for the laidies"
We both got up from the bed. Kit headed for the bathroom while I went to the living room. It was as untidy as yesterday. I walked to the sofa and saw the MP3 again. I picked it up and took a look at it.
As I suspected, it was an MP3. But not just any MP3, a human MP3. I could see some letters written there that were readable, which meant that it was indeed human. I couldn't make out what they said though, as they were almost completely faded away.
Flicking the switch did nothing. My best guess was that it had no battery, but how could I charge anything here? My phone was completely out, though I doubted that it would be useful even if it had battery.
Could I ask an electric type to charge them with a Thunder Shock? Or would it just completely fry the devices? Would it even be okay to ask that?
I kept looking at the music player for a long time. I don't know why though, it didn't have battery, so it was useless. It was probably just nostalgia.
I'll ask Kit if I can keep it.
Not too long after, Kit came out of the bathroom, his fur as smooth as ever. "Whatchu looking at?" He asked.
I showed him the music player and he squinted his eyes at it before exclaiming. "Oh! That old thing. I never managed to make it work, and the only text there is completely illegible, so you can keep it if you want. If you manage to make it work, I'll give you twenty bucks"
"Bet"
He raised an eyebrow. "You seem fairly confident for some reason"
"That's because I am. Do you by any chance know any electric types who could do you a favor?"
"What? I do, but why is it important?"
I grinned. "Don't worry about it for now. Come on, let's go to Ember's house"
Kit didn't seem to understand, but he followed me anyway. Once outside, I took a look at my surroundings. There were some Pokémon walking around, but unlike the other days I had been here, no one, or almost no one was rushing to work. They were just enjoying a little walk outside. The kids were running, probably playing games with each other.
We kept walking and we eventually arrived at the fountain that made the center of the town. Today, it was busting with activity, as there were Pokémon talking, admiring the fountain and elders sitting on the benches, talking among themselves.
Some more time later, we arrived at our destination, Ember's house. Kit tapped my back, encouraging me. After sighing, I knocked on the door.
...
Nothing.
I knocked again.
...
Still nothing.
I started to feel worried. Sweat dripping down my forehead as I tried to calm myself down.
I knocked for the third time.
...
Not a thing.
"Why isn't she answering? Is she ok? I swear I'll break this door down!"
"Hey! Relax, Jake. Maybe she is still asleep or she isn't at home. She uses the days were she doesn't have to work to do the shopping, or even go to that forest clearing. I'm sure she's fine"
"And what if she isn't?"
"We gotta believe that she is. For now, let's go look for her. If we can't find her, we'll have to assume she's sleeping inside"
"I hope you are right..."
The store where Ember worked was closed, so we resorted to going back to the plaza to look for her coworkers.
Shortly after we arrived, Damian and Agatha came walking in our direction, talking to each other.
The Froslass was the first one to spot us. "Kit! Jake! Hi there!"
The two of them walked closer as we greeted them. "Damian was just telling me about what happened yesterday. I can't believe Ember really got drunk. That's something not usually seen"
"Yeah..."
"What was that argument about anyway? She's not the type of Pokémon to just run away from somewhere, even when drunk"
"It was about the incident she had when she was younger. Do you know something about it, Agatha?" Kit explained.
The ice type widened her eyes with a fearful expression. "That... Yes, I know what it is"
Both Kit and me perked up. "Wait, really? Tell us about it, please!" I pleaded.
"No. Ember made me promise I wouldn't tell anyone. Sorry guys, but unless she's the one that tells you, I vowed to stay in silence"
Both of us sighed. "We understand, but could you at least tell us if it has something to do with her parents? I asked again.
Agatha seemed reluctant, but finally sighed in defeat. "Fine, but don't tell her I said anything. Yes, it has something to do with her parents, but I won't tell you anything else"
"That's perfect. Thanks Agatha, it really helps" Kit smiled.
"You are welcome, but I think you aren't running around the town just to look for us and ask that, are you?"
"If you are looking for Ember, she was headed for the pharmacy when I last saw her. She was clutching her head really hard, so I believe she was headed there to get some medicine for her head. You ought to go look there" Damian added.
"Got it! Thanks a lot, guys!"
"Farewell"
"Good luck!"
Kit started walking away from the plaza, and I couldn't help but sigh with relief. "At least she's fine..."
"Let's go look for her. You don't know where the pharmacy is, do you?"
"No"
"Follow me then! It's just a few steps away"
The pharmacy was a small white building that was located not too far away from the streets where the bars were. Call it strategic placement...
The inside didn't look too different to your regular pharmacy, but this one was noticeably smaller and less full. I supposed that Pokémon didn't need this type of medicine regularly.
"Hey, are those Kit and Jake?" A voice yelled.
We turned around and saw Aiden walking towards us, a small box in his hand. "What brings you here? Need some painkillers after what you did yesterday, huh?" The Incineroar joked.
"Not really. We were here because Damian told us Ember had come here. Have you seen her?"
"Ember? Yeah, I saw her. She looked like she hadn't slept at all. Eyebags and all of that"
"Really? Do you know where she was headed?"
"I think she mentioned something about...going to a restaurant for something? I didn't really understand her properly"
"What restaurant?"
"Uhhh... Emboar's Grill, I think"
"Thanks, dude! We'll go there just now!" Kit yelled, walking away.
"Yeah, thanks Aiden!"
"No problem! See you next time!"
Once we were back on our way to our next stop, a doubt appeared in my mind. "Emboar's Grill?"
"Yep. Owned by ol' Egan the Emboar. The best place if you like eating meat! I don't know why Ember's going there, but we'll find out soon!"
Once again, we entered the street where we went last night, and looked around for the building. It wasn't easy to miss.
The building was black, with a lot of bright colored flame patterns all over it. There was also an Emboar's face in between a crossed fork and knife.
"This building looks so cool..." I said.
"That's exactly what I said the first time I saw it. I love the food they do here, so that's why I come here once every two weeks or so. You could say I'm a regular customer"
"Really? You'll have to take me to eat here someday"
"You already planning a date with me? Sorry to let you down, but I'm not into guys"
"Shut up!"
Kit snickered and walked inside, and I followed after him. The inside walls were decorated in a way that resembled the outside. The building was crowded with Pokémon eating and chatting among each other.
In the hall behind a small lectern, a large Emboar stood waiting for anyone to enter. He smiled the moment he saw Kit. "Oi, Kit, me boy! Long time no seen, ain't that right? Are ye here to eat?" The fire type then looked at me. "Who's yer friend?"
"Hey Egan! This here is Jake. And despite me really wanting to eat your delicious food, we are here to search for someone, not to eat"
"Ah, who are ye looking fer?"
"We think that a friend of us may have come here some time ago. A Braixen called Ember?"
Egan looked up in thought before humming. "I may have seen her... A Braixen ye say? One came a few minutes ago. Made an order for some takeaway for later"
"Takeaway?"
"Ye. I don't know 'nything else"
"I guess that's better than nothing" Kit sighed. "We should go now. We have to find her"
"Got it! And remember, me boy, if ye or yer friend wanna come and have somethin', I'll always be here!" Egan waved.
"Thanks, Egan! See you soon!"
We exited the restaurant, a frown present on my face. "We don't know where she went after this! Ughh, what do we do now?"
"Maybe stop yelling this loud?"
Kit and me turned around and saw Jacques walking towards us with a grin in his face. I couldn't help but sigh in defeat. "Hi, Jacques..."
"Hi dude! What are you doing here?" Kit waved.
"I'm just looking for something to eat"
"Eat? But it's early in the morning?"
"Dude? It's like... half past one in the afternoon?"
"What?" Both of us exclaimed.
"Yeah?"
"We must have overslept..." I thought out loud.
"What are you guys doing, anyway?"
"Looking for Ember. Have you seen her by any chance?"
"Ember? Yeah, she was just going to that forest. Why do you ask?"
"The forest, of course!" Kit said, snapping his claws.
"Let's go! I think I know where to go!"
"See you, dude! Have a good lunch!"
"Huh? Wait, where are you going?"
We didn't answer, as we had already ran away from the street, headed to the forest. "Well, there they go..."
The walk through the forest would have been more pleasant if we weren't sprinting through the path, dodging bushes and rocks on the ground.
Finally, I started to hear what sounded like the flow of a river. We followed that sound and arrived at the clearing.
On the shore, sitting with her paws inside the river, there she was. There lied Ember, her eyes closed, absent in her own thoughts.
"Come on, Jake"
We slowly approached Ember from behind, all while I tried to think what to say to her.
Will an apology be enough?
"Umm...Ember?"
She didn't look back, but I saw her ears twitch, which meant that she had heard me. "I...I'm sorry for what happened yesterday. I shouldn't have tried to push you into telling us what happened while you were drunk. I just wanted to help you, but I just fucked everything up. I won't try to make you tell us again if you don't want to, I just hope we can just keep being friends..."
...
Is she even listening?
Just when I thought that, she stood up and turned to look at us. A blank expression on her face, and an aura that read nothing more than neutrality.
She started walking towards us without speaking or making any sound, until she was just in front of us. We spent what felt like minutes starting at each others eyes.
And just like that, without any previous warning, she suddenly hugged me, tears falling from her eyes, the blank expression having long been vanished from her face.
"You have nothing to be sorry for! Neither of you! I was the one that was drunk and acted like a little girl. You were just trying to help me. So not only I am sorry, but I am also thankful that you two worry about me that much. You deserve to know what happened, guys. But not yet. I promise I will tell you someday. Just... I'm so sorry..."
I smiled and returned the hug. "No need to rush..."
Kit joined in too. "We'll always be for you if you need us. Take all the time you need"
We spent a long time in silence after that. Only Ember's faint sobs broke it. At last, we broke the hug and got back to awkwardly standing in front of each other.
"So everything's okay then?" I asked.
"Yes. I'm really sorry for getting drunk and all of that. I barely remember half of the night! I guess Kit put you up?"
He nodded. "I did. I wasn't going to leave him in the street! Also, remember all the stuff you said to him?"
"What?"
"The 'You are so comfortable to be a steel type' and the 'you must be very good at flirting if you are my boyfriend this soon'. Or you can't remember it at all?"
Ember's whole face turned a new shade of red. "I...said that?"
"Yep. I'm sure Jake here was loving it!"
"He has not stopped ever since last night" I deadpanned, blushing slightly.
"Why would I~?"
I sighed. "Anyway, about the device I got from your house..."
"Oh yeah! You needed an electric type, right? Let's go find ol' Spark and ask him for some energy!" Exclaimed Kit.
Just at that moment, both his and my stomach growled. I forgot we hadn't had breakfast this morning.
Our Braixen friend laughed. "Hungry? Luckily for you, I packed some apples in case I got hungry" She said taking a pair of apples from her bag. "Have them. You must be hungry if you haven't eaten anything since you woke up. It must be almost two PM, and you have to be full of energy to apply to form an exploration team, right Jake?"
"What?" I asked, taking a bite from my apple.
"I thought about it and realized that if you want to form an exploration team, I won't let my past be an obstacle to you. Whenever you find members, I'll take you to the town hall to apply, what do you think?"
I almost dropped my apple at that. "Really?"
She nodded.
"THANKYOUEMBERYOUARETHEBEST" I squealed while hugging her again.
"Hey! Just because I hug you once, doesn't mean you can do it whenever you want!"
I left her be and apologized. "Sorry. I just...! Thank you"
"Don't worry, I was just joking. And you are welcome"
"Ah! Love truly is beautiful~" Commented Kit.
"Let's go before I decide to punch him in the face" She said.
"Agreed" I added.
"So, if I am not mistaken, Spark should be on guard duty at the town's entrance"
So one of the guards I saw yesterday was Kit's friend? How many Pokémon does this guy know?
The gate at this time was far more lively that yesterday. Now, Pokémon of all types were entering and exiting the town. The guards didn't seem to do a lot though, just ocasional random checks.
Like yesterday, the Machoke and the Raichu were playing cards, and the Ampharos was again commanding something to the group of Raticate.
Kit shamelessly walked towards the Raichu, startling the Machoke and getting pinned on the ground.
"Leave him be, Miles. He's my friend" Said the Raichu, leaving his cards on the box and sighing.
"What in Giratina's domain are you doing here, dude? You know I can't be talking with you while I'm on duty! This better be important"
"It is!" He said, rubbing the dirt off his fur. He then smirked. "Remember that weird thing we found in that dungeon? Apparently we need electricity for it to work, and I couldn't think of a better 'mon for the job! What do you say, dude?"
Spark frowned at that. "Really? You interrupt my duty to ask me for electricity? You are lucky that I don't slap you right here"
"It's not like you were doing a lot of work anyway" He said, rolling his eyes.
Spark looked at him for a good while and sighed, but started laughing shortly afterwards.
"You really are something else, dude. Alright, you talked me into it. What exactly was that thing we found?"
I walked forward and showed him the MP3.
"Remember that mountain MD?"
Spark raised an eyebrow before snapping his fingers. "That old thing? I told you it may just need some electricity, but noooo! 'You'll break it!' you said!"
"Ummm, I don't know if you can control how much energy you can use, but I think we've got enough with... 5 volts? More or less"
His eyes went wide. "5 VOLTS?! Are you kidding me?! That amount of electricity is like asking a Blastoise to water a plant! In all of my fighting days I've never shocked anything with that small amount of energy!"
I winced. Luckily, Kit was the one that replied. "So you can't do it?"
"Of course I can! But if I use any move, I will just fry the thing! Just bring it close to my tail"
He brought his lightning shaped limb towards me. I slowly approached the MP3 to Spark's tail and felt how it was suddenly charged in a flash of light.
You know how electricians wear rubber gloves as to not get shocked? 'I felt' wasn't just a random choice of words.
"Jake! Are you ok?" Asked Ember.
"I've been through worse" I answered while slowly standing up. Thankfully, the charge wasn't big enough to actually hurt me.
"Sorry Kid. I haven't attacked anyone in days and the energy just piles up, y'know?"
"Don't worry. It was nothing"
"So! Will it work?" Asked Kit.
Taking the dirt off my fur, I flicked the switch. At first, I thought we just wasted time; the screen was still black, and it wasn't changing from that. But just when I was about to give up, the screen turned on and finally showed a white screen, and then, the song list. Kit looked at it with wide eyes, so did Ember. Spark? He was more annoyed at Kit than anything.
"Told ya, Kit!" I yelled. "You owe me twenty bucks!"
"Woah! Honestly, I didn't think it would work!" He said.
"I told you! I told you it just needed some electricity, but you didn't want to listen to me!"
"You did it! Thanks, Spark!" I said grinning.
He sighed and looked at me. "You are welcome. What does it do exact-"
"Hey! Come on! It's our turn to patrol the east! Quit talking and let's go!" That was the Machoke from earlier.
"Roger that!" He yelled back. "You better show me what this does, and please, when I'm not on duty!" He added, running behind the Machoke to grab a weapon and then ran to patrol.
"Why do they need weapons?" I asked.
"It's a way to make it easier to win fights. Now, what does this thing do?" Kit questioned, rubbing his claws.
"You look like a little kid" I said while rolling my eyes.
"Did he ever stop being one, though?" Ember joked.
"Whatever you say. What time is it? I'm hungry!" Kit replied.
"No worries, I ordered some food before coming here, and it should be ready soon! How about we eat together and discuss what that thing does? Maybe you can explain to us, Jake?"
"Yeah, sure! I'm also starving. A picnic is just what I need"
"Is that why you went to Egan's place?"
"How do you know, Kit?"
"We walked around the whole town on a wild Quaxly chase just to apologize. We found out you went to that restaurant, so we went there and asked if they had seen you"
"I see... I guess it's not a surprise then. It'll be an apology picnic! Food's on me!"
After picking up the food and waving goodbye to Egan, we walked back to the small forest clearing. We sat on the ground, and unpacked the food.
"This restaurant really has the best meat from all, doesn't it?" I said while looking at the plate of smoked sausages.
"Yeah it does! The only reason I don't eat there everyday is because I have to pay the rent..." Added Kit, unpacking his lunch too.
"So anyways, Jake. What is this device you were so obsessed about?"
"Oh yeah! This is a music player! I don't know if these one needs headphones, though"
"Slow down there, Jake. What do you mean by 'music player'? I don't see how that is possible" Kit pondered.
"Why doesn't he show us instead of saying terms we don't know about?" Ember interrupted trying to, yet again, make me realize I shouldn't keep talking.
"Oh, girl. Relax! Do you think I'm dumb? I already know something is up! He doesn't do a very big job at hiding it"
"What? Know what?" Ember was clearly panicking.
"Yeah, know what?"
"Let me see. You don't know how to read, you don't know how to fight, you use words I never heard,... I could keep going, but I think you get the point. So please, do me a favor and tell me already"
I looked at Ember, and she looked back. She sighed and nodded in defeat. "Fine, Kit. You win. Promise you won't tell this to anyone?" She asked him, to which Kit nodded.
"I'm a human Kit. I don't know how, or why, but I am a human that somehow turned into a Lucario. I know it may be difficult to believe, but-"
"Sure, I believe you"
"Huh?" Ember and me exclaimed.
"I mean, it's not exactly the explanation I expected, but what else is there? Those words don't make any sense to me, and the fact he didn't know how to use his aura sense, something Riolu learn even before they are hatched, just doesn't leave any other possibility. Welcome to our world, I guess"
Both Ember and me looked at him in confusion. "Just like that? No reaction at all?" She blurted.
"Ember, if you had told me the moment I met him, yeah, maybe I would have freaked out. But I've already known him for three days now, and I know that Jake's a good friend, no matter if he's a human, or any other legend"
"Woah... Thanks Kit"
"No problem buddy. That's what friends are for, right? And honestly, I always dreamed with meeting a real human. Looks like Jirachi must have heard me, because you appeared in my life!"
"Never told me that... Anyway, Kit you gotta promise to keep this an absolute secret, okay?" Ember worriedly said.
"My lips are sealed! Now, show us what this thing does already!"
"No point hiding it anymore. This is an MP3, A device used by humans to listen to music whenever they want, wherever they are. As I said before, it just needs electricity to work. Now, let's see which music is saved here..."
I once again switched on the player and looked at its playlist. Some of it was corrupted, which meant that this thing was either old, or the files had been damaged. The files that were readable, however,...
"No way! This is music from Roxie! I love her music! Whoever this thing belonged to had a good taste. And she's also a gym leader! Is there something cooler?"
"Roxie?" Asked Ember.
"Gym leader?" Added Kit.
I rubbed the back of my head. "Did I go a bit overboard?"
Both of them nodded. "Alright, so let me summarize it for you. Roxie is a musician, and she plays the guitar. Amazingly if I may add. She has a band, and she plays with them in a city near the coast, back where I come from. I am afraid to play the music though. It is usually pretty loud, and I don't want to blast my new, probably hyper sensitive, ears!"
They both stood in silence, probably taking in all the information. I sighed smiling. "How about we just eat? It will be easier than having to explain everything, huh?"
The both nodded again, and before starting to eat, Kit commented. "Never thought I'd really meet a real human. If only she was here..."
Meanwhile, in the forest, a kid ran. Ran for his life.
"Come on, boy! You can run, but you can't hide!"
The small Iglybuff was doing his best to dodge the bushes and branches hanging low, but his legs were to small, and his pursuiters too fast.
He shouldn't have separated from his mom. If he didn't, he wouldn't be in this situation.
He stopped to rest behind a tree, putting his hands on his mouth as to not to make any sound. He heard footsteps passing nearby, and he started sweating.
"Ugh! Come on, kid! I don't have the whole day! Can't you just make things easier and stop being a little bitch?"
"Explain to me why are we doing this?" A different voice asked. "Why do we have to take a kid? That doesn't help the guild at all"
"I know! You wanna know why? Let me tell you. Because we don't have any money to buy equipment at all, dumbass! We are taking the kid so that we can ask for money in exchange of him! And if they want to see him again..."
That was followed by a rather sinister laugh.
The Iglybuff started sweating even more instensely. He knew that he couldn't fend off against two, most likely trained, criminals.
"That's great and all, but where is the kid?"
He didn't want to hear their talk anymore. He started running again, towards a big and dark cave. It didn't matter, though: If he didn't hide, he wouldn't make it back. He entered the cave, taking notice of the sign that was in the entrance, but not reading it at all.
Not too long after, a Mawile and a red and white Lycanroc appeared from the bushes, looking at the entrance to the cave where the kid had just gone through.
"Is that kid insane? If he can't fight against us, he has no chance against an MD!" The Lycanroc exclaimed looking at the sign that read 'Darkness Cave. This is a Mistery Dungeon; only qualified explorer teams or authorized Pokémon are allowed to enter!'.
"Do you really think that kid knows where he just got into? He can't be old enough to read. Let's follow him"
"What?! Why?"
"Because if that kid dies, we'll have no money! Come on!"
"You know the Boss doesn't let us get inside Mystery Dungeons!"
"Yeah, and she apparently doesn't give money to new members either! Come on, she won't know" Stated the Mawile, running inside the cave.
Her partner sighed and shook his head. "Why did I have to be paired with her... She's going to get me killed" He said, following after her.
"Seriously, that lunch was so good! I could eat it ten times over! Love Egan's food" Yelled Kit.
"Yeah! But I almost choked on it when Jake put that music so loud back there. How do you even call that music? That's just very loud sound!"
"Watch what you say! You don't want to know what happens when someone says something like that against a fanbase like Roxie's!"
"I'm not even gonna ask about it"
We were walking back to the center plaza when my aura sense picked something off. I told both Kit and Ember about it, but they didn't seem to feel anything.
"It must be your newly trained aura sense! You are welcome, by the way" Said Kit.
"Don't joke about something like that! What do you exactly-"
She didn't have time to finish the sentence when a Wigglytuff bumped into her. The Pokémon seemed worried, and was sweating a lot while looking around frantically.
"You three! Please, you have to help me!" She yelled.
"Hey, calm down! What's the matter, ma'am?"
"My-My kid! My precious baby! He-He disappeared! We were walking though the woods near the east, and when I looked back, he wasn't with me! I'm so worried! Please! I beg you! You need to help me!"
What? A missing child? And she is asking us?! "Wouldn't it be better if you asked an explorer team for that?" I asked her.
"There are none! All of them are busy with other missions! Please, I know you aren't trained for that, but I beg you, help me!"
Ember snapped her fingers. "Wait! The east, you said? That's where Spark and his friend were going to patrol, right? Maybe we can ask them for help!"
Kit nodded and turned to the Wigglytuff. "Don't worry ma'am, we'll do all we can to find him. But promise me that you will call an actual team as soon as possible"
"I-I will! Thank you so much!"
"Let's go then. We have a Raichu to find" I declared.
"Shit! I swear I saw something over here!"
I heard Spark's voice coming from in front of us. Seems like they had found something after all.
"Spark!" Yelled Kit.
"Kit? Again? I have no time for whatever you need to tell me now! A pair of criminals were just here. It's dangerous now, just save it for later!"
"No, wait! We came because we were asked to search for a missing child that ran into these woods! We were going to ask you if you found something!" I said.
The Machoke seemed to look down into a nearby bush. "An Iglybuff?" He asked.
"Probably. How do you know?"
He signaled us to get closer. We walked towards the kneeling Machoke and did the same as him. Three different pairs of footprints were present on the ground.
"One of those is from an Iglybuff. The other ones, however, must be from those criminals"
Kit suddenly gasped, followed by Spark's similar reaction.
"And they are headed towards..." Spark started.
"Darkness Cave!" Finished Kit with a yelp.
"Is it that bad?" I asked.
Ember looked at me. "Remember those Mistery Dungeons? Darkness Cave is one of those. Maybe not the most difficult there exists, but definitely no place for a child"
"Do you think they kidnapped him and took him there?" I asked.
"I don't think so. The Iglybuff's footprints seem to be more hurried than the other two. My best guess is that the kid was running from them and maybe headed inside the MD without realizing it"
"What are we waiting for? Let's follow the footprints!" Exclaimed Kit as he ran off. After a sigh from Spark, we decided to follow him.
Some time running later, we arrived at what seemed to be an entrance to a cave. The footsteps led inside, so I assumed this was it.
"They must be here. Nice one, Miles" Said Spark. "Alright, we will go to report this to HQ. You three wait here" He finished, adressing us.
"What?! No way! There is a kid running around inside that dungeon being chased by criminals! By the time you come back it will be too late! That Wigglytuff told us that there were no rescue teams available!" I yelled.
"Look, bud. MD's are dangerous. I don't know what you may think they are, but they are definitely not a walk in the park. You can die there. You don't even have proper equipment!" He answered.
"We are talking about a helpless kid, Spark! He may be kidnapped by the time you arrive here! Or even worse, dead!" Kit shot back.
Spark didn't want to admit it, but he was right. In this situation, every second mattered. He sighed and grabbed three Oran berries from his bag.
"Three Orans. You got nothing else. You better not die in there. When we come back with a team and say you are out, you are out. Understood?"
Kit nodded. "Seems like you got your rescue team leader test here! Beat this and I'm sure you'll be one in no time!" He said, giving Ember the berries. She left them in her bag.
"We are leaving. You better pull this off, you three, or you will be under serious trouble" Added Miles.
"Save that kid, guys. It's an order"
The two finally ran off, and we were left alone in front of the entrance to the cave. Ember was shaking. I don't know if they were nerves, or something else. She finally sighed and took a step forward.
"A kid is in danger, and we have to save him. Let's go, we are wasting time here!"
"Agreed. Let's roll" I added.
Kit nodded and we walked inside the cave, unknown dangers, and possibly some criminals were waiting for us. Truly an adventure that would prove if I could be a rescue team leader.
END OF CHAPTER 5
I am really starting to run out of motivation. It's hard writting your own story while reading another one that is thousands of times better than yours.
And every time I think I'm not good enough, I think this: This is my story. Who cares if that one is better? As long as there is at least one person out there that likes reading this story, I will keep writting 'till the end.
Rant apart, remember that a review always helps! Thanks for staying with me all the while and hope you'll keep doing it!
