I walked up to the school alone. Akari had opted to leave early to meet Honenuki. Her latest post was of them kissing with five hearts as the caption. I entered with the last rush of students. My cubby was free of any sign of vandalism. I switched my shoes and headed up to the classroom. I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket at the top of the stairs. I pulled it out. I had a notification that I was tagged in a photo. Odd. I tapped the notification. A photo of Hawks and I smiling like idiots high above the city was posted to his Instagram. Thousands of comments and likes began to roll in. My number of followers grew. I stared at the photo and positive comments as I stood in the hall outside of my classroom. My desk sat in the hall, covered in black sharpie. The same phrases and names that were stuffed into my cubby were scrawled across the surface. I opened the top of the desk – my belongings had already been removed. I let my head roll up from my shoulder before opening the door to my class. Midoriya and Iida were congregated at Todoroki's desk. Their wounds were still wrapped. Sero and Kirishima were laughing at Katsuki's hair as it exploded up from the styled version from Best Jeanist. A few of their eyes moved to the door to see who was entering the class. Some of my classmates gasped as a wave of water rushed over me from the right. I blinked. I was drenched from head to toe. My head snapped to the right to see two students snickering a few feet away. "What happens to a villain who attends UA?"
The other answered, "they die." I dropped my dripping phone into my pocket, dissipating my hands and forearms. My sleeves flattened and fell to my side. My hands appeared in front of them attached to my bare arms. I flicked them between the eyes. They grabbed onto their faces as they grunted in pain. My arms flew behind them, picked up the back of their shirts and pulled them over their heads. The two struggled, running around awkwardly until they slammed right into the other.
"I like that joke better," I glowered, returning my arms to my body. My shoes squeaked as I walked to my desk, closing the door behind myself. I opened the lid on the desk, my books were inside – they were new. I shrugged, letting the lid fall shut. I dropped my pack on the ground beside my desk and took off my soaked blazer, resting it on the back of the chair. I slipped into my desk and took out my notebooks from my backpack. Thankfully, I had taken them all with me to keep up my studies during our week off classes. A chair squeaked.
Todoroki stopped beside my desk. "Let me help dry you off." I looked down at the small puddle that was slowly forming under my chair.
"Get away from her Icy-Hot!" Katsuki let off a small explosion in his palm. Todoroki was unfazed.
"I-I'll be fine," I tried to decline, but Todoroki already made a small fire in his palm.
The door slammed open, Aizawa sauntered lazily into the classroom, his shoes squeaking in the water as well. He sighed and clicked open the row of cases. "You all have hero class with All Might today – you can change into your costume while your uniform dries." I nodded. Todoroki extinguished his flame and went back to his seat. I stood, took my case from the wall and walked down the hall to the washroom. I sighed, dissipating my body. My clothes fell in a lump to the ground of the stall with any excess water that clung to my body or hair. Using my quirk required such a high level of concentration to ensure that each atom and molecule of my body had been reformed correctly I could not afford to have my clothes or something else on my person mess up how I put my body back together. My suit had been specially formulated using keratin to make the process of breaking it down and reforming it far easier than complex synthetic fibres. Especially if I were to be rebuilding my neurons or ensuring that I kept my kidneys in their place rather than accidentally switching it with a lung.
I reformed my body – completely free of any water – and changed into my suit. I gathered my clothes, folding them into a small pile and set them on top of my case before exiting the washroom. My sister stood, leaning against the wall. "What the hell?" Her arms were crossed over her chest, face frozen in a scowl.
I tilted my head slightly in confusion. "Sorry?"
Akari took out her phone and showed me the photo that Hawks had posted earlier. "Why the hell did you get two heroes?"
"Redemption's one of his friends," I tried to explain.
Akari scoffed, turning the phone back to her. "Had a great time with Polaris – best of luck on your journey to becoming a pro. That's bullshit Makoto, you're no 'Polaris'."
I swallowed hard. Maybe Akari was so pissed that I got to spend time with two pros because she only got an hour of her own internship. "Who were you with?"
She scoffed, "don't you listen anymore? Best Jeanist." She rolled her eyes.
"No. After he kicked you out."
Akari let out a high pitched, nasal scream, as she broke her body down. Her clothes fell into a pile with her phone. I went flying off my feet and landed on the cold, hard tile of the hall. I had dropped my case and my clothes. I brought my feet under her and into my chest before teetering our reformed bodies onto my shoulders. I extended my legs – kicking Akari off me and further down the hall towards our classrooms. I twisted myself around to face her. She landed on her feet and began to charge at me. What was she doing? I scrambled to my feet. Akari broke down her arm, turning it into a spear of light. My breath caught in my throat. This must be the new move she was talking about. She always broke all of herself down, never parts. I let my hand dissipate and reform in front of her. My fist collided with her chest. She let out another scream as she was pushed back, turning her entire body into light. The door to my classroom opened. The windows that lined the hall shattered.
"What is going on here?" Aizawa stalked into the hall with his quirk activated. Akari reformed and fell to the ground, glaring at my teacher. He looked between us. "Makoto – inside. Akari, get your clothes on and come with me. Now!" I nodded, biting my lip as I made my hand reappear, attached to my wrist. I rushed down the hall, gathered my case and clothes quickly before returning to the classroom. My chest tightened. What the hell just happened? I silently refolded my clothes and set them and the case on top of my desk. Kaminari and Mineta were feverishly discussing Stain and a video that had come out with his manifesto. Redemption had shown it to me, laughing about how we were just barely out of frame. I did not understand the fascination they had with him.
"Are you okay Satoshi?" Iida approached my desk.
I picked a piece of glass off my suit and placed it on my desk while avoiding eye contact. "Yeah."
"Was Akari always like that?" Iida prodded. I kept my gaze on my desk and bit my lip. I shook my head.
The door slammed open. "Here I am, coming in like a normal person!" All Might hung onto the door frame and gave the entire class a smile. Iida returned to his seat.

I pulled my blazer close as I returned to class after lunch. I sat at my desk, fiddling with the chip in the corner of my phone case. I still needed to thank Midoriya for that note from the sports festival. I stiffened my shoulders, taking the note out from the inside of my phone case. I got up, holding the note in the palm of my hand. I stood in front of Midoriya's desk, the black note written in white paint in my outstretched hand. "I never had a chance to say thank you before."
He smiled up at me, "thanks Satoshi – but I wasn't the one to write that."
I faltered, staring down at the note, "what? Then who did?"
Uraraka looked over Midoriya's shoulder. "Doesn't look like anyone in our class."
I blinked. "Then who put this in my locker?" Midoriya and Uraraka shrugged. I stared at the note again before slipping it into the back of my phone once again. I excused myself, keeping my head down, and returned to my desk. That was embarrassing. If the writing did not match anyone in the class – then who had put it in my locker? Midnight slammed the door open, returning the quiz that we had written prior to our internships. The rest of the day slunk by – school was so mundane after being with Redemption. All hero class was today was racing to rescue All Might and working on mobility. Which, seeing as how my body can break down and move through matter it was an easy class for once.
Aizawa opened the door as Cementoss gathered his materials. He left the room as Aizawa took his place at the podium, "well it's almost time for summer vacation. Don't get too excited, you can't just relax the entire month. You'll be training, while you're camping in the woods." The entire class came to life with excitement. This must be the boot camp that Aizawa had mentioned to Mrs Haruka when he stopped by work that one night. "However, those of you who don't pass the final exam before the semester is over will have summer school. There's only one week left before your final exams begin. I'm sure you're all studying constantly, right? I hope you're all training too. The written is only one element – there's a practical portion as well." He turned and left through the open door.
I gathered my bag and rushed after Aizawa, "would it be okay if I used gym gamma tonight to train and if I borrowed my suit?"
He stopped and looked down at me from over his shoulder. "Don't leave it a mess and be out by seven."
"Thank you," I bowed my head slightly as Aizawa stalked down the hall.
"Why do you want the gym?" Katsuki stopped beside me, his bag slung over his back.
I turned and looked up at him through my lashes, "I wanted to get some training in since we have a practical exam, and work on some things I learned from Redemption." He nodded and walked down the staircase. I re-entered the class, pressing on the panel in the wall. The panel pushed back, gently opening. I removed my case and continued down the stairs and to the change rooms, changing into my costume. I took out my phone and sent Redemption a message asking if he had time to train this weekend. I gathered my bags and left the building, heading across the track to gym gamma. I opened the door to the large open room. "What are you doing?" I gawked, my shoulders dropping. Katsuki stood in the centre of the gym, stretching his arms out, in his gym uniform.
"Got a problem with me training with you?" He sneered.
I shook my head, "n-not at all." I set my bag down beside his.
"Let's spar," Katsuki began to stretch his legs. I swallowed, biting the inside of my cheek. That was my weakest point. I pulled my hair up into a ponytail and joined him in the centre of the gym. My hair ties were made of horsehair, extra strong and easy to break down with me. Katsuki moved his dominant leg forward and made both of his hands into fists. I stood in front of him awkwardly, shoulders up to my ears and hesitantly copied his stance. He snorted. "That's your fighting stance?"
I lifted my arms up awkwardly, my elbows tight to my ribcage, "Redemption never gave me a second before we sparred to figure one out."
"All right then," Katsuki yelled, rushing at me. He threw an arm forward, setting off an explosion. I broke my body down and reformed behind him. He threw punch after punch at me, but I broke my body down each time and distanced myself from him. "What the fuck Makoto?"
I reformed a few meters in front of him. "What's wrong?"
He glared right through me as he approached me, "why the hell aren't you fighting me?"
"I-I am." I stammered, franticly searching his face. He was livid. He was not this angry about his hair. He was not this angry about Midoriya being more mobile and not breaking his limbs in class earlier. He had never been this angry in front of me.
Katsuki scoffed. "Right. You don't think I'm worth fighting, eh?"
"No-" I started to speak.
He yelled over me, "-you fucking fought that Nomu and those villains at USJ. You fought your sister at the sports festival. For fucks sake, Makoto. I thought you were different than all those weak wanna-be extras. You're just like them after all." He brushed past me, hitting me hard in the shoulder with his body. He stalked out of the gym, seething.
"Wait," I cried. I instinctively reached out a hand for him, slowly balling it into a fist. I hated fighting. I did not want to do what my father had done. But, Redemption had shown me that I could fight without being a villain. I broke down my body, reforming in midair in front of Katsuki. I swung my leg as my upper body rotated towards him. He grinned, catching my leg in his large hand. He tried to pull me across his body, but I dissipated. I reformed behind him and attempted to land a roundhouse kick to his side. He turned and threw a punch at my stomach. I took my arm and wrapped it around his, turning my body into his side. I attempted to throw him over my body, but he was too heavy. I grunted, letting my top half disappear. He lost his balance and went toppling over my legs.
My legs advanced on Katsuki as he stood. My upper body reformed behind him. I tapped his shoulder, making him turn to face me, setting off an explosion in my face. My leg slammed into Katsuki, forcing him off balance and to the floor. My torso rejoined my legs. "This is what I was talking about!" He was really, truly smiling. He easily got back to his feet and rushed at me. I broke down my legs and arms, letting them reform in front of me as my torso floated in the air. Katsuki's smile grew as he caught punches that my arms threw and avoided my legs attempting to trip or kick him.
I punched Katsuki clean across the face. I gasped, returning my arms and legs to my body. I rushed towards him, my heart beating in my throat. "I'm so sorry! I got too into that." I reached out for his face to see what damage, if any, I had done to him. He caught my arms, sneered, and threw me to the ground. Everything became a whirl of grey and blue as I landed roughly on my back, staring up into his red eyes. Everything was still swirling. Katsuki's hips straddled mine; his hands were spread beside my head. His muscles flexed. I laid beneath him on the concrete – my pulse hammering in my ears. He was so close.
"I knew you weren't weak," he smirked, rotating onto one arm before pushing himself to sit beside me. I pulled myself up, rubbing my legs.
"And yet I still can't pull myself up that damn rope," I let my chin rest on my knees.
Katsuki poked my upper arm. "You'll be able to do it by the end of the year. You've already gained some decent muscle. What did Redemption have you do?"
I sighed, turning my face into my knees. "We borrowed Endeavor's gym and got me to do a hundred reps of everything he could think of." I lifted my head up and faced him. He was staring at my arms. "When we were at his agency, we did a lot of cardio and gymnastics."
"Show me." Katsuki nudged me with his elbow.
"It's embarrassing," I tried to protest.
He glared softly at me, "we're training – aren't we?" I puffed out my cheek, standing. I raised my arms above my head and leaned down, putting my body into a handstand. I stayed straight for a few seconds before my body wanted to topple over. I felt Katsuki's hands on my ankles. "Can you walk?" I took in a deep breath and held it as I lifted my right arm and moved it a few inches before setting my hand down. I repeated the process slowly. My arms were on fire.
"I can't," I started to groan. Katsuki let go of my ankles and I stumbled. I awkwardly brought my legs down and landed on my feet, almost losing my balance. "That's painful."
He chuckled, taking a step back, and setting himself up in a handstand as well. He began to do vertical push-ups on his hands before moving to his knuckles.
"Show off," I scoffed, wrapping my arms around myself.
Katsuki straightened himself and closed the distance I had made between us. "Do you not have to strengthen your body to build your quirk?"
I shook my head, brushing a stray lock of hair out of my face. "I guess it's built more on intelligence and quick thinking than physical prowess. Redemption said that my Dad was a lazy bastard that refused to do anything in gym class. And well, he did turn into one of the most feared –"
"So, you'll be even better than him." Katsuki cut me off before I could call my Father a villain. "If you can master some basic gymnastic or parkour moves, you'll be hard to beat. Especially with your disappearing act." My phone's generic ring tone rang out through the gym.
"I have to get that, if could be important," I excused myself, running to my bag.
"If it's that old hag or psycho bitch you can leave it." Katsuki glowered, slowly making his way towards me. I pulled my phone out of my bag, Redemption's name across my screen. I quickly answered his call.
"Already missed me?" He roared on the other end. A group of voices laughed in the background. "Well, squirt – I've got us pretty packed here this weekend, but I think we can train for a few hours Sunday morning if that works."
I did not work until noon that day. We could make it work. "That's great."
"Perfect," he roared again, "how does five sound?"
"Five in the morning? It's a date."
"See you then, Polaris!" The line went dead.
Katsuki looked at me sceptically. "It's a date?" His eyebrow twitched.
"Uh, yeah." I dropped my phone back into my bag. "I asked Redemption earlier if he had some time to train this weekend."
He rubbed the back of his neck, "so you wouldn't be free to study with Kirishima and I Sunday then?"
I started to stammer, staring between him and my phone. Redemption and I would probably train until ten or eleven and I worked at noon which would give me an hour to change, shower, and get to work. I worked until close at eight as well. I hung my head in defeat. "I'm busy all day."
Katsuki crossed his arms over his chest and let out a grunt. "I guess we just need to make today count." He lunged at me, setting off an explosion beside my bag. I broke down my body, ready for another round.

Aizawa left the class, door closing behind him. Uraraka stopped in front of my desk, jumping up with joy. "We're fighting robots for our final! Isn't that exciting? It'll be so easy now."
"Wait Uraraka," Midoriya rubbed the back of his neck. "We don't know if they're going to change up the exam this year or not. We should be more concerned about the written first if we all want to go to the boot camp." Uraraka began to converse with him and Iida.
"Do you want to study with us," Ashido asked, pulling Jiro with her to my desk. "We're meeting at Yaomomo's on Sunday." I felt a burning from behind me. I turned slightly to see Katsuki glaring at the back of my head.
"I-I can't." I closed my notes and put them away. "I'm busy already."
"What about Friday with me," Hagakure asked from beside me.
"I'm busy all week, unfortunately," I frowned, pulling my bento from my bag.
Ashido pouted, "we need to hang out soon Satoshi." She fell on her knees and placed her chin on the edge of my desk.
Kaminari let out a rush of air, "why would she want to hang out with any of us with how we've been treating her?"
Jiro attacked him with her earphone jacks. "You mean how you've been treating her Jamming-way!" The class began to laugh at his pain – allowing me time to slip out and down to the forest to eat alone. I sat down under a tree at the back of the school when my phone began to ring. I pulled my simple phone out of my pocket, Midoriya's name lighting up at the screen. I hesitated, floating my finger above the decline button. I moved my phone across the green accept.
"Where did you run off to so fast? Why don't you eat lunch with us today," he was super cheery.
"Oh, I'm just outside. It's f-," I started to answer.
"Iida said he'll come to find you. You brought your lunch, right? If you want anything from the cafeteria just text me and I'll grab it for you!" He hung up. My heart fell into my stomach. Iida was coming to find me. With how fast he was there was no way I could hide from him.
"Ah, there you are! Do you eat your lunch here every day?" Iida stood above me, leaning over just enough to block out any sun. My jaw hung lose in shock, but my head managed a small nod. "That's horrible. Where did you plan on eating when it rains or snows? Outside still? I can't accept that. You're going to start eating lunch with us!" Iida bent down and took the wrapped bento from my hands before taking my frozen hand in his. In a moment we were in the cafeteria, seated at a large table. Thankfully, Iida was not nearly as fast as Redemption.
I stood across from Iida, with Uraraka and Tsu seated on either side of me. Midoriya and Todoroki sat beside Iida. Iida placed my bento in front of me before taking his seat. Midoriya gave me a smile. "Did you get used to going super fast with Redemption?" I nodded, staring down at my hands under the table.
"Tokoyami did say that he ran across half of Japan in five seconds with you one day," Tsu spoke.
"He's that fast?" Iida leaned across the table to me. I nodded without lifting my head. "Please introduce me to him next time. I would love to learn from him." The group's conversation switched to what they needed to study for the exam. I sighed, opening my bento. There was no way I would be able to sneak away back to that clearing – and it would take me most of the lunch tomorrow to find a new spot to eat anyway. I caved, silently eating my bento and avoiding all conversation.
Midoriya stayed behind after everyone had finished their lunch. I rewrapped my bento and stood to leave. "That's for joining us. I know you don't normally interact with a lot of people – and if you don't want to eat with us that's okay. But, if you just want a place to eat you're welcome to eat with us. If you don't want to talk that's okay, we're just glad to have you." He smiled sheepishly up at me.
"Thank you," I said, bowing my head slightly.
