The 'Lone' Hero of Vale - Chapter 2
Link's POV
Peter Port's class, by far the most exciting class... said nobody ever. It's not like he doesn't teach, but most of the class is him telling a story about himself in the past.
Team RWBY was asleep, well almost all of them. Yang was drooling all over her notebook, Weiss had her face planted on the desk, though every minute or so she would spring up to make it seem like she was awake the whole time... nobody bought it of course. Blake did her best to stay awake, but her drowsy eyes were noticeable, and she was down for the count. Meanwhile Ruby was wide-awake, yeah... may have given her a bit of my coffee, a hyperactive Ruby, something I never want to see again... though she is kind of cute when she-! Ugh! Nevermind.
Then there is team JNPR, they were 50/50, Ren was partially paying attention while also having to look at Nora, who laid her head down on his textbook. Phyrra was also paying attention while getting Jaune to focus instead of ready an X-Ray & Vav comic book...X-Ray and Vav, I wonder who they are and who made them up?
Last but not least is me; I did not really pay much attention to Professor Port but had my eyes on team CRDL. Cardin, Russel, Dove and Sky, who were always messing with this faunus girl called Velvet, a girl I've only run into once, I accidentally dropped her stuff, but when I helped her pick them up, she ran away… how strange. Anyway, those four cowards always messed with her when she was by herself, but of course, they would not do that if she were with her team, or even that big guy alone, they would cower in fear. Although to be fair, they already did... hehehe.
3rd Person POV
The previous day
"Owww it hurts!" Velvet cried out "Please stop..." She begged
"Told you they were real..." Cardin laughed as he yanked on them one more time before letting her go
"Hahaha what a freak." Russel spoke as the rest of the CRDL team laughed at the poor faunus as she walked away, covering her face in humiliation.
Both RWBY and JNPR were clearly showing sympathy for Velvet while mumbling about how Cardin is not the only one and wondering how hard it must be to be a faunus.
On the other hand... someone was ready to take immediate action
"Grrr..." Link observed the cruelty that just occurred, sitting alone, he tightly held onto his mug, as soon as Russel mumbled the word 'freak', he stood up and popped his knuckles, getting ready to confront them.
"Having a nice day?" Ozpin's voice was suddenly heard as he now had a light grip on Link's shoulder
"H-huh? Oh yeah splendid day." Link smiled then sat back down
"Good, I wouldn't want any trouble in your first semester." Ozpin slowly nodded, passing by he glanced at CRDL, who stopped laughing now, with all four members, even Cardin going quiet.
15 Minutes Later
On his way to his dorm, Link noticed Velvet heading back to her dorm as well, so he purposely drifted away from the path to his dorm, and followed Velvet closely.
"...This may be considered stalking, but I just want to make sure she makes it back with no issues." Link slowly trailed behind her, blending in with the shadows from the curtains
"OH LOOK!" Cardin laughed as the 3 other CRDL members revealed themselves
"It's the freak..." Sky and Dove say at the same time as Russel began to throw tiny carrots at Velvet
"We don't want to be anywhere near you, so do us a favor and scram, yes?" Cardin nodded
"I just have to get back to my dorm please..." Velvet mumbled, "I don't want any trouble."
"What was that?!" Cardin walked up to her
"Don't do it..." Link said to himself "Touch her and I'll hurt you."
"I-I-I-!" Velvet stalled
"You nothing!" Cardin shouted at her "We run the show around here, and you're outnumbered so it's best if you just walked away." Cardin reached for his mace
"I've had enough of this crap." Link frowned and stepped out of the shadows "Who said she was outnumbered?" Link slowly approached team CRDL
"Who on earth is this?!" Russel demanded answers
"Somebody who overheard what you said to this girl... and somebody who won't stay quiet no matter how many opponents are in front of me. As of this day, if you have a problem with her, you have a problem with me. Got it?" Link in an exaggerated manner made his footsteps louder and louder and he now stood next to Velvet.
"T-thank you." Velvet whispers
"No problem..." Link nods and in the process, he crosses his arms
"Back off kid." Cardin walks towards Link and attempts to shove him, but Link catches his hand and pushes him back instead, with twice as much force.
"If I wanted to, I could take you all down right here and right now, but I have to make sure this pretty girl gets to her dorm without any issues." Link chuckled, and put a hand on Velvet's shoulder, assuring her safety
"What is she, your girlfriend?!" Cardin rolls his eyes
"If she was you would already be on the ground, but hey maybe after this I'll take her out on a date." Link looked at Velvet and nodded, not noticing her blushing cheeks before both of them looked back at Cardin "Now, will you all rush me at the same time or will I face all of you one by one?" Link asked and then smiled, knowing he would trigger Cardin.
"Stop smiling and take us seriously!" Cardin shouted, and with one hand grabbed his mace, lifting it in the air and bringing it down with brute force, intending to hit both Link and Velvet.
"I see, so you're the powerhouse of the team." Link nods and lightly shoves Velvet away from harm, not reaching for his sword nor his shield, knowing he'd have no time, he lifted both hands up and with his forearms he successfully blocks the attack, wincing only a little bit, but still smiling. "Man am I glad I got these metal gauntlets."
"What the-!" Cardin frowned and applied more force "How are your hands even attached to your body anymore?!"
"Pure luck and perfect timing, although, now that you've had your chance to attack, it's my turn now!" Link's smile turned into a frown, he managed to out strength Carding after what seemed to be minutes of struggling, pushing him back, finally reaching for a weapon, just his shield though.
Link was able to block another straight mace attack without doing himself any harm, he pushed Cardin back yet again, but this time noticed Cardin left himself wide open. "Big mistake!" Link dropped his shield, rushed Cardin, and connected with a flying side kid to the midsection, falling to the ground himself but also knocking down Cardin to one knee.
"Is that all?!" Cardin said with confidence, which faded immediately as he held his ribs
"No, that's just a warm up" Link chuckled and he laid back, letting out a sigh then within seconds he got up to his feet with a kip up
"Russel, Sky, Dovel, get him!" Cardin commanded, as the rest of team CRDL surrounded Link, all with their weapons at hand
"Alright then..." Link grabbed what seemed to be a regular steel bow, only for it to turn into a small double crossbow in an instant.
"That won't help..." Russel said, clearly confident that despite that good Link may be, he wouldn't be able to handle a four on one bout
"What's this?" Three members of what seemed to be Velvet's team, approached team CRDL, Velvet and Link
"Coco..." Velvet mumbled
"Hey now, don't interrupt my teammate while she's on a date, that's just rude." Coco narrows her eyes, which were barely visible through her sunglasses, she took a good look at Link and smirked
"Coco!" Velvet frowned and turned her head for a brief scoff
"I'm just kidding, but still, Cardin how pathetic are you? Four on one against Velvet and now four on one against another guy" Coco called out, as she and Yatsuhashi were quick to draw their weapons, the fourth teammate stayed back, almost confident that Coco and Yatsuhashi could handle team CRDL
"We're not cowards" Cardin forced himself to stop holding his ribs to look tough while he held onto his mace tightly with both hands
"Stop!" Link threw his arm out, stopping Coco and Yatsuhashi in their tracks "Coco is it? I started this fight, so please, allow me to finish it, you can enjoy the show."
"Hm?" Coco stopped and did not trigger her handbag, frowning but also showing a bit of admiration for Link… enough for her to showcase a brief smile
"Now then Cardin, where were we?" Link held his crossbow with his left and picked up his shield, holding it firmly with his right.
"Lucky shot, that's all." Cardin once again ran full speed at Link, swinging his Mace with full power
"Hmph!" Link aimed his crossbow and fired two arrows, which were blocked by the impact of Cardin's mace swing "Checkmate!" Link dropped his crossbow and grabbed only the handle of his sword, aiming to take it out of the sheath
"Haha too slow!" Cardin drove his mace down onto Link's shield, standing tall, putting more and more pressure on Link's defense, leaving himself exposed again
"Thank you Cardin." Link smirked as his left eye began to glow a bright gold color, his iris too changed color, going from blue to gold, the small symbol (triforce) on his left hand lit up and so did the design around his sheath, clothing and sword.
"What the-!" Before Cardin could finish his sentence, he was on the ground, holding his side yet again, there was a clear cut going from his stomach to his rib cage, his aura was shattered through, but the slash was not life threatening, worse case was blood being spilled.
Cardin however, was still in the same place, it was Link that was gone, he was past Cardin, and in between Russel, Sky and Dove, holding his pose of him kneeling downwards with his sword sticking out in an attacking position, he smiled at the rest of team CRDL as he put his sword back in its sheath
"This guy's too good, let's get out of here!" Russel barked out an order as leader in place of Cardin, demanding at Sky and Dove, all three members proceeded to grab Cardin and his mace before bailing quickly.
"Well..." Link chuckled and picked up his crossbow that he threw on the ground, tapping the button behind the trigger, making it turn into a regular bow again. "That's done." He mumbled and began to walk away
"Whoa whoa whoa..." Coco grabbed onto Link by his collar "Introduce yourself friend, I mean you couldn't have just followed Velvet for nothing."
"I was heading to my dorm actually..." Link shrugs "...And I saw Velvet get bullied by those losers earlier."
"You followed me to..." Velvet cut herself off mid-sentence. "Protect me?"
"Yeah I kind of stalked you but I worry about people sooo.." Link chuckled and scratched his hair
"I don't know how to thank you but my name is Coco, he's fox, that's Yatsuhashi and this is Velvet." Coco introduced the whole team
"I'm Link. Nice to meet you all" Link waved
"Where are your teammates?" Velvet shyly asked
"Teammates?" Link jumped "Oh right, it'll get old soon. I'm a one person team, Ozpin allowed me to be my own team since I don't work well with others." Link nodded "And probably other reasons…"
"Wow, that's cool, you must be strong then." Coco took off her sunglasses to look at Link directly in the eye
"Eh, so I've heard." Link smiled "Anyways, I don't want to waste anymore of your time; I'll head out now..."
"Oh already? Shame, well bye Link. Hope to see you around again." Coco waved
"Yeah, see ya..." Link nodded and walked away
"T-thank you." Velvet called out, stopping Link in his tracks
"No problem Velvet." Link raised his hand in the air, waiving without turning around "See you around." Link nodded and walked away once more.
"She likes him." Fox pointed at Velvet before walking away, going to team CFVY's dorm.
"What?!" Velvet shook her head "No no no, I'm just lost for words that's all."
"Aww Velvet's in love, that's cool." Coco smirked as she, Velvet and Yatsuhashi followed Fox.
"A-am not." Velvet shook her head again "I barely even know him."
Present time
"Good times" Link chuckled
"Almost! Got! It!" Ruby squinted her eyes at her 'Notes' as she finished her drawing with precision and speed
"What'cha got there...?" Yang was suddenly awake, and snatched the picture from Ruby, seeing that it was not what she expected "Awww she was drawing herself and Link holding han-!"
"Give it back!" Ruby squealed and jumped on Yang's back, the two sisters fighting for possession of the drawing, they were focused on fighting each other that they didn't even realize the paper was no longer in any of their possession's, but fell into the grasp of...
"Hmmm..." Link observed the picture closely
"Ah! L-link i can explain you see-!" Ruby was cut off
"No it's cool, nice drawing." Link smiled as he looked at the picture closely "I like it, you need to finish the fists though, it can't be a fist bump if our hands are open." Link nodded and handed the drawing back to Ruby
"That will be all for today." Professor Port spoke "Be sure to bring back all your wonderful notes as we will be taking a quiz next time we meet. Run along now students." As soon as he finished, everybody sprinted out.
"Did Link really not see that it was them holding hands...?" Yang slapped her forehead with shock as team RWBY, JNPR and Link headed to their next class.
