The 'Lone' Hero of Vale - Chapter 3
"Oh what's this?" Jaune asks and take a letter from Link's hand
"I was just about to read that." Link frowns
"Who is it from?" Jaune laughs.
"It's from Velvet, she gave it to me-!"
"Velvet?!" Jaune shouts
"Stay focused Mr. Arc!" Shouts the teacher who's name is Bartholomew Oobleck, a very hyperactive man who has excessive amounts of coffee. He quickly takes the letter from Link's hand just as he takes it back from Jaune. "No more distractions!" He hurries back to the front of the class and tosses the letter on his desk as if it was a piece of trash
"Brilliant now I won't be able to respond to Velvet, and if I don't, she may take it the wrong way." Link sighs
After Class
"So, how was class from your point of view?" Pyhrra asked Jaune
"It was good; I did not understand any of what he was teaching, so I'll have to get notes from you or Weiss..." Jaune chuckles
"Jaune..." Phyrra narrowed her eyes "I noticed you and Link talking most of the period, I imagine it was not about class or combat."
"Sorry." Jaune chuckles "And I know, I know." Jaune nods "I have to stay focused; I'm just not an academics guy."
"Good, but please, you must take it seriously, being a good hunter doesn't just require showing strength as a fighter. You can learn a lot from an experienced hunter like Professor Oobleck."
"Yeah you have to be suuuuuper smart." Nora giggles
"Not exactly but it does help a lot on the battlefield or simply in a sparring match." Ren nods.
"Yeah Jaune, you have to pay attention next time." Weiss scolds him, but upon hearing Link laugh, she turns to face him "You're not off the hook either."
"I know, but I also know that I can goof off, because I know what I'm doing when it comes to classwork. I can choose to not turn in any assignments but still ace tests." Link chuckles "Call it luck or laziness, I call it a gift."
"Well..." Weiss raises her finger but then lowers her entire hand "That's right... I suppose" Weiss sighs but then frowns "You and Jaune were playing around with a note, what was all that about?"
"It was a note from Velvet; however I didn't get to read it and it could've been important, thanks Jaune." Link crosses his arms and lets out a sigh of disgust
"Sorry." Jaune chuckles while scratching his head.
"Well, now I have to go speak to Velvet in person, she's already awkward enough to have a talk with, this will be even worse, see you guys around." Link waves as he runs off, not even acknowledging the rest of team RWBY who were right behind Weiss.
"Oooooh." Yang laughed "Ruby come on you're gonna let your boyfriend get stolen from you?"
"He's not my boyfriend!" Ruby stutters "That hug was just an 'in the moment' thing, I was happy he brought back Crescent Rose!" She then begins to walk away before coming to a full stop, contemplating Yang's words "But she is right though, how will I ever get to know Link if he's just running off with team CFVY every moment he gets. Wait why am I thinking of getting with a boy?! N-no! Link's just a friend... right?!"
"I-I gotta go." Ruby sprinted away
"Wait she actually likes him?" Nora giggles as Weiss' eyes widen with shock
"T-that was not a joke?" Weiss looks around, wanting answers
"Eh? Who knows, but if she does, very shocking right? My sister is in love, shame the one guy she may show interest in is already getting taken away." Yang grins and walks away "Ruby better step up or sit down."
"Never thought she'd be into boys." Blake sighs "But we do learn things about each other every day huh?"
"Mhm." Ren nods, still not saying much as always.
Elsewhere
"Where are they?" Link continues to walk around Beacon, passing by dismissed classrooms, and paying no attention to all of the second year students who were looking at Link with confusion...
"Right, I am just a first year after all… do I have that 'first year student' look?" Link chuckles as he begins to speed through hallways until finally running into Coco... by literally running into her.
Both of them collided, Link stumbled to one knee while Coco crashed to the ground
"Ow! What's your problem kid-!" Coco furiously shakes her head but then stops herself from doing anything else once she realizes it was Link, "Oh it's just you... Why are you in such a hurry?"
"Sorry Coco." Link smiles as he gets up first and offers a hand
"I'll let it slide this time." Coco nods and takes his hand "Looking for Velvet I assume?" Upon getting to her feet, she lets go of Link's hand and dusts herself off
"Yes. How did you-!"
"Her note." Coco rolls her eyes "She's somewhere in the courtyard, and please, don't hurt her feelings."
"Huh?" Link first looks in the direction Coco points to "Why would I-!" Link turns to face Coco, but she was already walking away "Whatever..." Link shrugs and runs back the way he came from, but instead of going back to a classroom, he heads for the courtyard
"He didn't even read it." Coco stops and turns back, carefully watching Link run away "That jerk better not hurt Velvet or else." She smiles and walks off "Knowing Velvet, nothing will happen."
Courtyard
"Where could she be? Maybe I should have asked more questions. All Coco said was 'somewhere in the courtyard' never mind the courtyard being huge." Link sighs as he walks around the courtyard, and then notices something weird 'on a tree', with further investigation, it turned out to be two rabbit ears slanted sideways
"There she is." Link sighs in relief and walks towards Velvet "Hey Velvet!" Link calls out to her, and notices her sat down on the grass and leaning back against a tree, almost dozing off, clearly not expecting anybody
"L-link!" Velvet jumps up and suddenly her eyes shot open with shock "H-hi! H-how are you today?" She panics and hurries to fix her messy hair
"I'm doing great, it's nice being outside, fresh air, beautiful trees, and your bright brown eyes top it all off." Link chuckles and walks up to her
"Oh no, not again... Why must he always compliment me, I'm not even pretty, but more importantly, why am I getting these feelings, we barely know each other?" Velvet refers to her face, which lit up with a faint red "Thank you." She whispers softly after letting out a sigh
"Anyway, I came to talk to you about that note, but now that I'm here, I'll enjoy the nice day out with you instead." Link smiles, sits beside Velvet, and lightly nudges her shoulder
"Oh um, y-yes it is nice out here." Velvet turns to face Link, trembling with fear she shows off a smile
"You ever just looked up and examined the clouds, it's something I do when I just want to clear my mind and relax." Link now lies back, his head on the tree trunk with his eyes focused on the sky, pointing at clouds "That's a baby right there! Oh look, that's a carrot, and hey look at that one." Link points to the sky
"Where?" Velvet looks up with genuine interest that she even lies back and is right next to Link, trying to follow his hand, exactly to where he points "I um, y-yes I see it."
"No you don't here." Link grabs Velvet's wrist and aims at the clouds that were shaped like a baby rabbit chasing after a boy
"H-he's almost holding my hand..." Velvet's face completely lights up "W-what do I do now?"
"Hey look at those, don't they look cool?" Link directs Velvet's hand to clouds shaped like roses
"Yes. They do look nice." Velvet smiles, frees her forearm from Link's grip, and instead proceeds to wrap her hand completely around Link's hand.
"Whoa..." Link's eyes shot wide open now, and instinctively grabs onto Velvet's hand, within seconds both hands were together, and each of their fingers laced across one another.
"...Link." Velvet mumbles as she turns to look at him, her face being only inches apart from Link's made her even more nervous "T-the letter, it was… I um… I… wanted to…"
"Yeah?" Link nods, following along but not exactly piecing together the question
"Whoa whoa whoa what is this?" Coco laughed as she approached, taking her sunglasses off, making sure, she was not interrupting a special moment, upon seeing that Velvet was getting nowhere, she smirks "Lovefest #2 has commenced and is now shut down."
"Coco..." Velvet hesitates but slowly lets go of Link's hand
"Yes?" Coco asks, "Link's got Port's class next, and you know how he gets, bad enough Link doesn't listen to his stories about his days as a hunter, Port will hate it even more if a student of his is late. Now come on Velvet, lets give Link a minute to himself before he eventually takes a nap in Port's class." Coco was not looking at Velvet, who motions at her to leave, but had no intentions on doing so. She instead waits until Velvet awkwardly says her goodbyes to Link
"The letter..." Velvet sighs, "I did not get to ask him to the dance... I was too focused… on other things."
"See you around Velvet" Link waves at both her and Coco, who depart without saying any more words, he sighs and looks up at the sky again, "I wonder what the letter said, never got to ask her about it, I wonder what it was about... or what it said?"
"The day is still nice out." Link closes his eyes and speaks aloud, obviously not expecting anyone else to be around him
"Sure is!"
"W-what-!" Link jumps up as Ruby was right in front of him, she waves her hand right in his face
"Hiiiiiii!" Ruby smiles as she turns her hand into a fist
"Yo." Link waves, smiles and sits up "How's my favorite red head doing?" Link nods and gives her a fist bump
"Doing great thank you, and how's my favorite blonde doing?" Ruby sat beside Link
"I'm doing fine myself." Link nods and then quickly raises an eyebrow "Favorite blonde? Jaune's going to take that to heart." Link says as both he and Ruby laugh right at the same time "What's up?"
"We have Port's class together. I saw you out here, so I figured we could walk to class together."
"Oh sh-! I almost forgot about class!" Link chuckles and is quick to get up
"Dummy." Ruby shakes her head but her expression quickly changes to an evil smile "Wanna race?"
"No semblance?" Link asks
"Ugh! Fiiine!" Ruby rolls her eyes as she and Link get into position
"Ready?"
"Set!"
"Oh hey Blake!" Link shouts
"B-blake?" Ruby looks around crazily, and in the process takes the bait
"GO!" Link takes off and is quick to enter Beacon
"Why you-!" Ruby growls and takes off as well, both early first years had no regard for who was in their path, their only concern was to best each other.
That'll wrap up chapter 3, what do you think so far, and are you guys more LinkXVelvet fans or LinkXRuby, personally, it's a tough one xD
