The 'Lone' Hero of Vale - Chapter 4
Courtyard
"Link..." Velvet lets out a soft whisper as she turns to face him
"What's up?" Link looks at her, they were in the exact same spot as the day before, both leaning back on the tree
"I know you and Ruby are very good friends, I mean... you guys get along so well." Velvet sighed
"Mhm." Link nods.
"Well I am not very good at this, and let's face it, I am bad when speaking about and expressing my feelings in general, but Link..." Velvet mumbles, as she got closer to Link, she momentarily stalls before awkwardly throwing her arms around him for a hug
"Hmm?" Link's face changes instantly, he goes from being casual to showing off a smile as he hugs her back
"I like you." She whispers
"Oh... I like you too Velvet, you're an amazing friend despite only just meeting you not to long ago." He smiles at her but does not look her in the eyes
"L-link." Velvet tenses up as she feels Link's hands on her lower back "I really like you." She whispers as now both of their eyes meet, her breathing suddenly begins to pick up its pace
"Velvet..." Link shakes his head while his eyes shoot open in disbelief, "I like you too, but..."
"I get it." Velvet's eyes tear up "These really do make all the difference..." Velvet was quick to touch her rabbit ears, but before she could say anything else, she is cut off by a pair of lips… Link's.
"!" Velvet froze and practically left Link hanging, he tightens the grip on Velvet's lower back with one hand, and with his other hand, brushes his hand against Velvet's neck and then pushes her against him even harder.
"...!" Velvet still did not know how to react until out of pure instinct, she slid closer towards Link and sat down on his lap briefly before wrapping her legs around his midsection and lower back.
After a full minute of kissing, they both pull away, and neither even consider the position they are in
"I, l-love you." Velvet mumbles "Oh no, was that awkward? And was it too soon?"
"I love you too." Link smiles and gently gives Velvet another quick kiss on the lips "And I never will stop..." He smiles and kisses her neck, which triggered another reaction
"Please don't." Velvet let out a surprising moan as she locks her arms around Link's neck
"Velvet..." Link suddenly stops and pulls back
"Yes?" Velvet looks at Link
"Wake up."
"Huh?" Velvet raises an eyebrow as suddenly, Link vanished into smoke and Velvet sat on the courtyard all alone, looking around frantically, the sky turns red and the sun changes to the darkest shade of black
"Link… w-where are you? Please don't leave me…"
"Hey!" Coco snaps her fingers "Sleeping Bunny, wake up." She says with a big smirk on her face
"H-huh?" Velvet's eyes slowly open as she sits up, looking around the team CFVY dorm, Fox and Yatsuhashi were nowhere to be found, it was just her and Coco, one was dressed for class, the other was still in her pajamas.
"We're going to be late for class, get dressed. Fox and Yatsuhashi are waiting for us." Coco says as she puts on her 'shades' and glares outside, she notices Link and Ruby walking around Beacon
"Brilliant, that's the last thing Velvet needs" Coco frowns and closes the curtains
"Sun too bright even with those shades?" Velvet asks
"Yep." Coco nods
"That's alright." Velvet nods, but then immediately remembers the dream, the more detailed it got the more it made her blush to the point where it engulfed her cheeks, forcing her to cover with up with a blanket
"You ok?" Coco squints at her
"Mhm." Velvet responds quickly, she hides her smile and blush
"You had a dream about him huh?" Coco laughs as she viciously yanks the blanket away
"N-no!" Velvet shook her head
"Mmmmmhm." Coco nods and chuckles, shows lots of sarcasm. "Let's hope there's nothing else... that may need cleaning" She chuckles
"T-there isnt!" Velvet shouts aloud, clearly flustered
"I'm just kidding." Coco laughs uncontrollably as she sits down next to Velvet "But if you really like him, then get to know him, find out what you two have in common. I'll admit it, the guy's sense of humor is on point, and he was completely destroying Jaune yesterday."
"Wait you guys were with him?" Velvet looks at her team leader with a confused expression
"Yeah, RWBY, JNPR, and three fourths of our team we're just hanging out in the library." Coco nods
"W-where was I?" Velvet turns her head in shame and disgust
"Asleep, knocked out, dead." Coco laughs "We could not wake you up. And besides, you weren't going to do anything with Link."
"And how do you know that?" Velvet's bottom lip quivers, she was angry, but knew Coco was right
"Because Ruby was there." Coco speaks coldly, the sarcasm quickly fades
"I don't blame her for having a crush on him, he's just..."
"Funny." Coco laughs "Strong… hot" Coco sarcastically says while throwing her hands in the air
"And more..." Velvet sighs as she starts to panic once again.
"I don't get why you're so crazy over him, yeah he's the kind of guy you can rely on and hang out with casually, but I don't see what you see." Coco nods "...Though that's just me, this is about you Velvet, don't give up until you know there's nothing to fight for. Besides, you two are very different, she's outspoken, tomboy-ish and feisty, while you are quiet, shy and passive."
"I just hope he gives me a chance." Velvet sighs as she gets up and uses Coco's brush to fix her hair.
"I will be outside, don't take too long, from just a standard prediction, I think we have about five or ten minutes." Coco gave Velvet another quick nod then leaves the dorm
"O-okay." Velvet nods and was quick to change.
"Here you go." Ruby says and hands Link a rose that she picked from the ground.
"Cool." Link smiles, and breaks the stem of the rose, then proceeded to put it in Ruby's hair
"Link!" Ruby laughs
"Red roses will always look better on you." Link says cheerfully
"Thanks." Ruby looks away and sheepishly lets out a soft giggle
"Come on guys!" Yang shouts
"Yeah we don't want to be late." Weiss shrugs and crosses her arms, but the sight of Link makes her storm away
"Link you coming?" Ruby asks "You've already missed multiple classes."
"Eh..." Link shrugs
"Pleeeeeease?" Ruby grabs onto Link's hand "Ozpin will get mad at you."
"..." Link rolls his eyes "And?"
"Ok um…" Ruby looks around "Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease? For me?" Ruby begs
"Fine." Link chuckles and lets Ruby lead him into the school, following Yang and Blake
"Good Job Ren, excellent technique." Glynda nods as Ren walks away, he did not look back at Sky who is being helped to his feet by Cardin, Russel and Dove.
"Lucky." Sky confidently grins but then slumps over in pain
"Now students..." Ozpin spoke "As many of you know, there is a team which only consists of one person, and luckily, he is here today." He says while glancing up at Link who was just entering
"W-what?" Link raises an eyebrow "Did I miss something?"
"Link come down here." Ozpin said
"Umm…" Link plants his hands together, lacing all his fingers as well, nervously looking around before nodding "Ok."
"Good." Ozpin nods, "Now I have received complaints and am being monitored closely due to my decision to allow Link to be his own team without running it by anybody, but what nobody understands is why I did it… there are many reasons, but rest assure that he is very strong and capable, so today he will not be going 1 on 1." Ozpin begins to raise his voice "He will be going against a whole team." Ozpin smiles and takes a sip from his mug, ignoring all the gasps; everyone was shocked, except for himself and Glynda.
"I get that alright…" Link nods as within a minute he enters the 'arena', "Who will I be facing though?"
"Glynda..." Ozpin mumbled
"You will be facing Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Yang Xiao Long and Blake Belladonna. Or as they are known by their team name, RWBY." Glynda speaks coldly as her attention is entirely on Link, she watches his look of calmness go to one of complete shock "Come down here girls."
"Wow, talk about a challenge." Pyrrha sighs, "As good as he may be... No, I will not make assumptions just yet, it is time to see what he can do." She smiles and keeps her sights on Link
(You going to hurt more friends huh?!) A dark voice echoed in Link's head
(Not now.) Link growled
(Go on then, kill those 4 pathetic girls and prove that you should be feared, you are a monster, and that will never change.) The dark voice evilly laughed.
(GO AWAY!) Link grabbed his forehead in pain
"Link?" Ruby's gaze was now on Link the moment she saw his 'headache'
"You ok?" Yang asks
"Y-yeah I'm alright." Link frowns "Let's just get this over with."
"Hmph!" Weiss frowns as well "Time to teach to overconfident degenerate some manners."
"You may begin." Glynda said firmly as she and Ozpin backed away
Weiss did not hesitate, grabbing her sword and getting in a fighting stance, a span of different colors were seen, Weiss was unsure of which to use, showing her lack of research done on Link
"You're too slow." Before she could chose, Link was already behind her…
"W-what?!" Weiss turned to strike Link but her elbow was caught and then held in place
"You heard me." Link coldly speaks as he grabbed onto Weiss' wrist, on the hand she was holding the sword with, while putting his other hand directly on Weiss's back, directly on her spine.
"What is he-!" Blake looks on closely, but for some reason she did not respond with action
"Get away!" Weiss manages to loosen the grip on her wrist as she regroups with her team "Blake? Hello?!"
"Time to show off my semblance...s?" Link speaks with confidence but also a slight bit of doubt
"Semblances?" Pyrrha looks at Link closely "That's impossible."
Link dropped down to one knee, he planted both hands together, the triforce symbol on his left hand lit up and so did various parts of his clothing, as well as the design on the sheath of his sword, his shield and everything gold to be precisely specific.
"What the-!" Weiss said and instantly dropped to one knee herself, she was drained within seconds
"Feeling tired?" Link grins
"He can take someone's energy... and add it to his own." Pyrrha mumbles
"You'll pay for that!" Yang shouts and charges at Link with sharp speed. Firing multiple rounds from her gauntlets at Link, who avoided them with ease, and then came the time for close combat "Ahhhhh!" Yang shouts as she went for a powerful strike that would have also fired a bullet... right in Link's face
"Hmph!" Link frowns and catches Yang's powerful incoming fist, he managed to direct it away to a different direction. The fired bullet hit the ceiling, and Link replies by grabbing his sword and wildly swings it at Yang, who in return dodges with ease, but Link's intention was not to hurt Yang
"Oh no..." Ruby shook her head; Link had aimed for Yang's hair, and sliced off only the smallest bit.
"Y-YOU!" Yang's anger built up within seconds "YOU BASTARD!" Yang screams, and unleashes her boiled over anger; her eyes instantly go from purple to red as she charges towards Link once again.
"If it doesn't work the first time..." Link states coldly as he puts his sword away, jumping back a few steps "It won't work the second time!" Link shouts as he makes it his main priority to dodge rather than block Yang's attack, knowing her strength would be more powerful than her in a normal state. Dodging punch after punch only made Yang angrier and more determined to get at least one hit on him.
"Come here!" Yang was able to keep up with Link's dodging and then stopped the cat and mouse game by grabbing him by his collar with a firm grip; she lifts him in the air with ease while looking at him right in the eyes "Game over!" She smirks and cocks her fist back.
"Not yet." Link squirms around, swinging back to get loose, to no avail, but it was enough distance and just the amount of time to bring up his fist and punch Yang in the face first, which sent her back and crashing to the ground
"No way. Just like that, he was seconds away from being clobbered... And he got out of the tough spot." Jaune said, clearly impressed
"..." Ruby hesitates when reaching for Crescent Rose, but knew she had to once Link set his sights on her.
"HEY!"
"?" Link turns around and notices Yang getting back up
"I'm not finished yet!" Yang says as she gets to up to one knee, visibly stunned
"You will be now!" Link rushes towards Yang, keeping his sight on Ruby but not even concerning himself with Blake, who just stood still and watched, she still was completely frozen. Link's 'finishing' move for Yang consisted of kicks. One kick to the face, a straightforward attack that sent Yang flying back yet again, Link was quick to follow up by quickly predicting where Yang would land and getting in the exact spot. Once he was there, he waits and times his next attack, waiting right as Yang was about to hit the ground, Link hit yet another kick, this time to the back of Yang's head, sending her up in the air. Link's final attack was getting into a position where he'd be face to face with Yang, he grabbed his bow and turned it into its crossbow state, but then shows off something new, a third transformation, from a bow to a semi-automatic rifle. Link springs up in the air, using the powerful shots from his rifle to launch himself further upwards, but instead stops right above Yang with his left leg raised in the air. Link made no attempt to keep himself in the air and brought himself down, landing his final shot, with the bottom of his boot, right on Yang's face as both of them headed towards the ground, Link managed to land on his feet while Yang landed hard on the ground.
Link turns to face Ruby, but he did not grab his sword nor did he pick up his bow, which was still in its rifle state. What was different was his left eye, it was not just gold anymore, but it had strange lining in it
"L-link?" Ruby hesitates once again but follows through and charges at Link.
"One more to go." Link frowns as he dodges a scythe slash but was not quick enough to avoid the spinning kick that came after the scythe slash, it stuns and sends Link back, not giving him any time to prepare for the incoming bullet that is fired from Crescent Rose
"O-oops!" Ruby gasps
Link, knowing he would be hit if he attempted to reach for his shield stopped, and let his left eye analyze the bullet that came in rapid speed, Link raises his hand, and allows his aura to the job by repelling the bullet just in time.
"Whoa." Jaune's eyes widened
And now mysteriously, the gold and black eye vanished, leaving Link's normal eye color to return
"Ahh!" Ruby charges at Link again, swinging Crescent rose again for another deadly slash, this time, Link leaps over it "Hmph!" Ruby grins and spins in a circle as she attempts another double-footed kick. Her feet smash into Link's chest, but she makes the foolish mistake of leaving her weapon behind as she runs in for hand-to-hand combat.
"Eat this!" She said, going for an uppercut
Link gave no oral reply but he did catch Ruby's fist just as it was about to connect with his chin. He then yanked on ruby's arm, and wraps it around her throat, he held her tightly in a basic but deadly choke hold.
"L-link." Ruby gasps for air
"I know." Link whispers in her ear "I'm sorry." He mumbles, then spins ruby around and kicks her in the face with the bottom of his boot, the same way he did to Yang, and just like Yang, Ruby is sent tumbling onto the ground next to her sister. Blake was the only one left standing... she still made no attempt to attack him
"It's over." Cardin laughs
"That's enough!" Glynda shouts, she stops the fight despite the fact that Blake, Ruby and Yang were still able to fight but she chose to end the fight early regardless.
"Link is the winner." Ozpin says, revealing Ruby, Yang, Blake, Weiss' and Link's aura, only Weiss' hit red
Link's aura did not even plummet a bit, Weiss' was finished, Yang's was above average, so was Ruby's, and Blake's was full. As for their physical status, Yang was slow but successful in getting up, Weiss stayed down and Ruby got up to both knees
Link's hands are balled up into fists as he walks towards Ruby, the "audience" of students gasp as they expected the knockout blow on the leader, which would establish dominance, but instead, Link taps her forehead with the palm of his hand, pushing her back. Despite the childish gesture, Link runs behind Ruby and catches her; he refused to let her hit the ground.
"I'm sorry." Link mumbles
"N-no problem… you owe me a rematch though." Ruby chuckles and still had her smile, cherishing the showing of respect
(9/14/17): Edited - Once again edited out team CFVY being in class with Link as they are 2nd year students plus cleared up Link's semblance, replacing the "red eyes" that made no sense.
