A/N: Sorry this took for ever to upload, life has been crazy. I'm working on the third and final chapter of this story. Thank you all for reading.
Ten years. She use to worry. She was scared they would turn into almost every married couple she knew. The spark lost as life became mundane. She made him promise years ago that they wouldn't turn into one of those couples, but that fear always lingered. Ten years and she no longer has that worry. She couldn't imagine spending her life with anyone else. He still gave her butterflies like the day they met.
Two years after Lily was born, she fell even more in love with her husband.
It was unexpected. Unplanned. But when she told him she could see it in his eyes that it was far from unwanted. They were going to have another baby. Lily was going to be a big sister.
She fell even more in love with him at their first appointment. He held her hand and held her gaze, he melted her heart completely. What she loved most about him was how he rolled with everything. Almost nothing phased him. So when the ultrasound tech told them they weren't just having one baby, but two, he didn't even budge. With tear brimmed eyes that were full of love, he reassured her that everything would be okay.
She knew it would be because as long as Richard Castle was by her side, they could handle anything.
She found out before him. He was flying back from LA, a quick book signing stealing him away from his family for a week. It was a routine appointment, nothing big, but the tech slipped. A slip of the tongue that allowed Kate the opportunity to give her husband the best surprise.
There was nothing Richard Castle loved more than coming home to his family. He hated being away from them, but nothing could beat the first night home after one of his tours. On nights like tonight, he would stand outside the front door to the loft. He'd listen for the muffled voices of his family, the soft melody of the classical music she loved seeping from under the door. It still took his breath away. His life with Kate, his life with their daughters. It was more than he would have ever imagined.
Kate smiled when she heard the key turn in the lock. Her eyes drifted to her daughter, Lily's brown curls still wet from her bath, blue eyes focused on the picture book held in her small hands.
"I'm home! Where are my girls?!" Her husband's voice echoed through their home, the toddler's eyes caught her mothers with a wide grin before the book was thrown haphazardly to the side. "DADDY" the small girl shrieked, moving as fast as her tiny body would allow. Castle picked up the girl, covering her in kisses and 'I missed yous' as he walked further in the loft towards his wife. He shifted their daughter to hold her tight in his left arm as he snaked his right around his wife, pulling her close. He found her lips, offering a weeks worth of love and devotion to the woman who would always hold his heart.
Kate was excited, giddy almost. She hadn't stopped smiling since he walked through the door. She could tell he knew something was up. He could read her better than anyone so his quizzical glances towards her as they tucked their daughter into bed came as no surprise.
Once Lily had finally drifted to sleep, Kate pulled her husband into their bedroom. "Sit", she ordered, pointing to his side of the bed. "I'll be right back, I need to grab something". When she returned, she held a small gift wrapped in her hands. She nervously bit her bottom lip and thrusted the package into Castle's, nodding for him to open it. He ripped through the paper, revealing the small onesie that was carefully folded. He gave Kate a questioning look before unfolding the the small outfit, gasping when his brain clicked in realization. "Kate" he choked out, eyes immediately welling with tears. "Is this? Am I? Are we?" Kate laughed, placed a soft kiss on her husbands lips and brushed away her own tears that had started to fall. "Are we having a son?" Castle questioned, pulling his wife down next to him so he could wrap her in his arms, his fingers drifting to the now noticeable bump that was her stomach. "Two of them actually. Identical twins. Babe, we're going to have our hands full." Kate watched as her husbands joyful expression suddenly shifted into one of terror, throwing her off guard. "Kate" he choked out, attempting to stop all of the emotions that were about to overflow. "I don't, I don't know how to be a dad to a son. My dad, what if I fail them like my dad did? What if I'm only good at being a girl dad? I don't know how to have that relationship, the father/son one. What if I'm not good at it?" He was vulnerable, a side he only ever showed to her. She held on tight to her husband, whispering in his ear, attempting to ease every doubt that haunted his mind. Their silent tears falling as she assured him their boys would love him more than anything. He let his fingers rest once more on her stomach, allowing a small grin to take over his face, his eyes twinkling again with joy and the tears that continued to be shed. "Thank you, Kate. Thank you for our sons."
She swore there was no way she could fall further in love with her husband.
But it turned out she could.
