Chapter Nine

Helping Eda set up her stand today, the girls and King placed whatever human stuff Eda collected over the years in place. Danielle dusted alongside Eda getting rid of any dust that had accumulated. As for Luz, after she was done started reading her Azura book to King.

"Emboldened by the dishonor Hecate had shown, Azura lifted her staff to the cotton-candy skies and shouted, I challenge you to a Witch's Duel!" said Luz, reading a certain entry in the book before flipping the bottom of the page to show off her little drawing. "And look! I drew a flip book. Pew, pew, pew!"

"Show me the picture," said King, peeking over the book.

"What?" said Luz, staring at King.

"Show me the picture!" said King, Luz turning the book around for him to see. "Hah! I can draw better than that. You know, they once called me the King of Artists."

"Wait. I thought you were the King of Demons," said Luz, staring at King. "Are you just making this up now?"

"Doesn't matter," said King, turning around and facing Luz. "What's important is that my followers would leave me offerings in fear of me!"

"Well, I can offer you more of this tantalizing book," said Luz, wanting to read more of the book to King.

"Ugh! Please stop reading that," said Eda, shaking a feather duster at Luz. "Its flowery language is an insult to witches and driving away all of our serious customers!"

"I'm even having a hard time trying to read it," said Danielle, playing with a rubik cube. "I can't seem to get into it."

"Um, Eda?" said Luz, staring at the empty street. "What customers? There aren't even any other stands around. What's going on?"

"Whoa," said Danielle, looking around. "Is it not market day?"

"This is a bad omen," said Eda, staring at the girls. "There must be something horrible happening today."

"Buon giorno Willow," said Danielle, noticing Willow and Gus come their way. "Buon giorno Gus."

"Hi Danielle. Hi Luz," said Willow, walking over to the stand.

"Luz! Danielle!" said Gus, gaining the girls attention. "Something amazing is happening today!"

"Gus, Willow! Hey!" said Luz, waving hi to the two.

"It's the annual covention!" said Willow, holding up a flyer. "Student witches get to see all the types of covens before they're placed in one. There's even a mystery guest this year!"

"Never been to one of those events before," said Danielle, looking at the flyer. "I wonder how much fun they can be."

"A job fair for witches!" said Luz, leaning towards Eda. "Eda, can we go?"

"Absolutely not," said Eda, hearing Luz groan and drop to the ground. "I never joined a coven for a reason. Sure it's like a fun club for witches, but you're also giving up your magical independence to be part of a crooked system."

"Mmm," said Willow, lowering the flyer.

"Eh, but, you know, no judgment," said Eda, crossing her arms over her chest. "In any case, I haven't been to one since we were girls."

"We?" said Luz, hearing Eda mention someone.

"I… the… I mean…" said Eda, stammering.

"Who's we?" asked Luz, popping back up. "You have a mysterious past! Now we gotta go!"

"Did you go with a friend?" asked Danielle, staring at Eda. "Or a relative back in the day."

"No," said Eda, refusing to go.

"Okay," said Luz, gesturing to King. "Then you leave me no choice."

"You shall not shan't doeth no more harm, Azura callethed out..." said King, grabbing the Azura book and reading out loud.

"Uuuh…" said Danielle, leaning her head on the table and covering her head with her arms. "Please stop."

"So flowery, so awful," said Eda, opening the portal door and stepping through.

"Hecate could only screech, screech as did she, for the screeching did worseneth," said King, still reading while Luz grabs him and tosses him through the closing portal door after Eda.

"Stop it! Stop it!" said Eda, coming back through the portal door. "I will literally do anything to stop this!"

Packing up the stand for the day, Eda begrudgingly goes to the convention. Staring at the large building in front of them, Luz is bouncing on her feet while Danielle stares around the place. Eda groans into her hand not too long later.

"So many people," thought Danielle, getting nervous seeing so many people at the convention. "Haahaa, I should… stick around Eda and… such… respira... respira."

"Gotta keep a low profile," said Eda, lifting her hood over her head with some trouble.

"Is this cowl really necessary?" asked Luz, grunting while helping Eda push her hair in the hood.

"Do you think all my wanted posters are for petty theft?" said Eda, only for stuff to fall out of her hair before scooping it back up. "Partly. But the big whammy is I disobeyed the law and refused to join a coven. If I'm seen, I could go to jail. Again."

"Yeah," said Danielle, staring at Eda. "Not letting that happen."

"Maybe this informative event will inspire you to join a coven," said Willow, holding one of Eda's wanted poster up before Eda conjures a spell pulling Willow's hood over her head.

"Let's just get this over with," said Eda, walking into the building.

"Whoa," said Luz, staring before her at the many booths inside. "Was I even alive before now?"

"Wow," said Danielle, marveling at the sight before looking at Eda. "There could be freebies here to take home."

"True," said Eda, ruffling Danielle's hair. "Though I think your cooking far surpasses anyone here."

"Grazie," said Danielle, blushing from the praise.

"Those are the main nine covens, but there are hundreds of other ones you can join," said Gus, pointing at the hanging banners.

"There's Flower Coven, Artist Coven, Big Dog Coven, Small Cat Coven, Tiniest Cat Coven…" said Willow, naming a few covens before hearing Eda groan. "Also the Grumpy Coven."

"What was that?" said Eda, hearing Willow before seeing them run away besides Danielle.

"Uh, excuse me, ma'am, but you look rather familiar," said a random witch, staring at Eda then of a nearby wanted poster.

"Uh... No, I don't," said Eda, throwing down a bag of snacks. "Distraction spell!"

"Eda, wait up" said Danielle, running after Eda only to stop when Eda came back and picked up the snack bag before grabbing her hand and running away again and rejoins Luz's group.

"Ooh, what's that?" asked Luz, staring at a certain booth.

"That's the Construction Coven," said Willow, seeing bricks and wood pallets being thrown before forming into a house. "One of the main nine. They use power glyphs to increase their strength."

"I can see my dad doing this," said Danielle, imagining her dad being a part of the construction track. "He wouldn't have to hurt his back anymore."

"Ha-a-a!" said a person Danielle recognized as the Shorter Prisoner from day one, a power glyph on its nose, powering it up before tossing the booths sign. "I'm the destroyer of worlds!"

"Hey, that's the opposite of construction!" shouted a Construction Witch, trying to stop the Shorter Prisoner.

"Whoa," said Danielle, watching the display.

"Yowza-wowza!" said Luz, before seeing a light blue colored illusion of herself come off her and imitate her. "Yowza-wha-a-a?"

"Cool," said Danielle, seeing one of her own. "Is that what I really look like?"

"Ah! You've been taken in by the allure of the Illusionist Coven. We like to magic with a hint..." said Gus, disappearing in a puff of smoke and appearing next to the two young illusionists. "Of showmanship."

"Wow! Acceptance? Comradery? A sense of belonging? Covens sound incredible!" said Luz, impressed before looking at Eda. "Eda, why haven't you ever joined one?"

"Watch closely you two. When you join a coven, all your other magic is sealed away," said Eda, getting the girls to see a young witch being branded with a seal. "From now on, that kid will only be able to make illusions. Since I never joined a coven, I can do every kind of magic."

"I prefer your way," said Danielle, before seeing another seal underneath the other, a black cloth with a red x for an eye and holding a bloody scythe, scaring her. "That's not good."

"That's why I'm the most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles," said Eda, creating a fireball in one hand and a ball of water in the other.

"Weh?" said King, following after the group only to be stopped by some Oracle Student.

"The tea leaves foretell that this," said Oracle Student, taking out a pen and putting it in King's hand. "Will lead you to your destiny."

"Destiny? Feh!" said King, staring at the pen then at the Oracle Student. "I'm not paying for…"

"It's free-e-e," said Oracle Student, retreating into the shadows.

"Are you bestowing gifts upon me? Yes! I accept your offering!" said King, people nearby staring at him. "The King of Demons is back!"

While King was distracted by the Oracle Student, everyone else walked towards a door that was flanked by guards. Lots of witches and demons were seen entering.

"That panel looks popular," said Luz, staring at the golden banners.

"It's the Emperor's Coven!" said Gus, gasping. "Do you think they'll sign my forehead?"

"Only one way to find out!" said Willow, running alongside Gus.

"Aren't you coming, Eda?" asked Luz, seeing Eda not moving.

"No way. Of all the covens, they're the worst," said Eda, waving her hand about. "I'll wait out here."

"You sure Eda?" asked Danielle, staring at Eda.

"I get it, Eda. Covens: bad. Individualism: good. But I'm still figuring this world out, so I'm going to go in there and make up my own mind, okay?" said Luz, grabbing Danielle's hand and walking towards the panel.

"But what about…" said Danielle, staring back at Eda.

"I just saw her," said the random witch from earlier, talking to a guard.

"Huh?" said Eda, turning to see the random witch from earlier.

"She's over there," said the random witch, holding Eda's wanted poster and pointing her way. "I think that's her!"

"Uh-oh," said Eda, running towards the panel. "Luz, Danielle, wait up."

Entering through the doors, Eda spots the girls sitting down. Seeing that it was a stadium, the girls wondered what they would see. Danielle even though she was curious, was nervous, not liking being around so many people.

"All right, let's see this mess," said Eda, sitting down and seeing the lights dim before seeing Principal Bump down in the arena, swirling green magic illuminating him.

"Hello, Bonesborough!" said Principal Bump, summoning a mic. "Students ask me all the time, Principal Bump, what's the height of magical achievement?"

"Is it this?" said a young Hexside Construction Witch, enlarging his head with magic only to crush the person next to him.

"Wow. I failed you as a principal," said Principal Bump, before grabbing the mic. "It's being selected to join the best of the best. And there are none better than the jewel of the coven system and the enforcers of his will, the Emperor's Coven."

"Whoa," said Danielle, seeing three coven guards appear in the arena with magic swirling around them

"Whoa," said Luz, before looking to the side and seeing Gus and Willow.

"Luz!" said Willow and Gus, gaining Luz's and Danielle's attention and pointing at Gus's autographed forehead. "Danielle!"

"Feast your eyes on this elite force, each member handpicked to help usher in a new age of controlled magic," said Principal Bump, the three coven guards drawing a spell circle above their heads conjuring a jet of water, lightning, and a jet of fire before coming together and creating fireworks then confetti.

"Sorprendente," said Danielle, grabbing some of the confetti alongside Luz. "I can't wait to use magic and show Aster."

"When does that elite force get here?" said Eda, leaning over to the demon next to her and laughing.

"Members of the Emperor's Coven have access to all…" said Principal Bump, walking around the podium. "Yes, all forms of magic. Ooh. Aah."

"Huh…" thought Danielle, hearing what Principal Bump said. "All forms of magic? Then why does Eda hate this one the most?"

"But... only the best can ascend these ranks," said Principal Bump, before pointing at Amity, who was among the audience as well. "Some day that could be one of you!"

"Hmm?" said Luz, seeing Amity squealing.

"And now, I'm pleased to introduce the esteemed leader of this coven and this year's mystery guest. You know her, you love her! Lilith!" said Principal Bump, the audience cheering.

"Huh?" said Eda, who stopped laughing upon hearing the mystery guest name.

A bright flash of light near the ceiling turns into a blue raven sitting on a branch. It flies off the branch to the stage, landing to reveal Lilith. A tall, slender, middle-aged woman in her mid-to-late forties. Ivory skin, pointed ears, mint green eyes, and long straight dark navy hair. Wears a long-sleeved two-tone dark gray dress with an inverted kite-shaped sky-blue gem located on her sternum and dark gray laced boots. Also had black lipstick on and black claw like nails. Looked to be the same height as Eda. The raven disappears with a screech as Lilith lifts her arms and sends her mask flying. The audience applauds and cheers, while Eda is looking at her speechless. The girls notice Eda being speechless.

"Does Eda know her?" thought Danielle, staring between Eda and Lilith. "Must get a mask like that."

"You know her?" asked Luz, staring at Eda.

"You could say that," said Eda, still staring at Lilith.

"Mysterious past!" said Luz, gasping.

"Thank you, all," said Lilith, magically sending her cape and mask flying into Principal Bump. "It wasn't easy for me to rise to the top. I also started from humble beginnings."

"Like me?" said the young Hexside Construction Student, staring at Lilith.

"Now I have the highest honor of enforcing the Emperor's will. So be more! The Emperor's Coven awaits you!" said Lilith, spinning around and creating a raven illusion and having it spread its wing before bursting into lights.

"Eda!" shouted Luz, her and Danielle running after Eda after leaving the stadium. "Where are you going?"

"Is everything okay?" asked Danielle, concerned for Eda.

"I'm gonna head home and wash the con funk off my skin," said Eda, pushing Luz's arm off of her arm.

"But we haven't even taken the quiz to determine our coven type!" said Luz, taking out a magazine before Eda's blasts a hole into it and walking away. "Ooh, a punky potionist."

"Luz, you're about to…" said Danielle, seeing Luz bump into Amity. "Bump into Amity."

"Watch where you… oh, it's you," said Amity, noticing Luz. "Willow's... abomination thing."

"Uh... Hey, Amity. So, funny story. Not an abomination. Sorry for the confusion last week," said Luz, extending her hand for a handshake. "I-I'm Luz. The human. Hi!"

"Ugh. Put that away," said Amity, smacking Luz's hand away before pointing at her. "You're the one that got me in trouble with Principal Bump and I never get in trouble."

"Well, to be fair, you were okay with him trying to dissect me, so…" said Luz, walking after Amity with Danielle following.

"Okay, let's all calm down," said Danielle, staring between the two. "Let's not make a scene here, okay."

"You're that girl that was trapped in that Giant Abomination," said Amity, staring at Danielle.

"Yeah… I rather not remember that," said Danielle, rubbing her arm. "I'm Danielle. Also human."

"You're human as well," said Amity, looking at Danielle up and down. "How'd you get stuck in that Giant Abomination?"

"I was hiding in Willow's pot when it happened," said Danielle, rubbing the back of her foot with the other, confusing Amity. "I… uh… don't really understand what happened back there."

"You can't be here!" said Amity, pointing at the two. "This covention is for witches only."

"Well, we're learning how to be a witch," said Luz, linking her arm with Danielle's arm. "We're receiving magic lessons from a powerful witch and a ferocious demon."

"Is that your ferocious demon there?" asked Amity, looking over Luz's shoulder.

"Cupcakes in my tummy-tum makes the King say yummy-yum!" said King, the girls seeing him dressed in some freebies and carrying a cupcake.

"Hehehe," giggled Danielle, seeing King being cute. "Così carino."

"So you'll join the Bakers Coven?" asked a Female Baker, following King alongside another.

"Hmm... Nope!" said King, scarfing down his cupcake than grabbing another before heading the girls way. "Oh, hey, Luz, Danielle! Look at all these offerings…"

"Stai bene?" asked Danielle, bending down and checking on King after he tripped on his scarf.

"Oops," said Amity, stepping on King's cupcake when Luz and Danielle reached out to get it. "That was an accident."

"Why are you being so mean, Amity?" asked Luz, staring at Amity.

"Because you and your pet are giving witches in training a bad name," said Amity, staring at Luz.

"I am not a pet!" shouted King, while scratching his face with his hind leg.

"He's a very good boy and the King of Demons! I'll tell you what, Amity," said Luz, hugging King before standing up. "It's one thing to say I can't be a witch…"

"'Cause you can't," said Amity, staring at Luz.

"What!?" thought Danielle, her hazel green eyes flashing white momentarily.

"Huh?" thought Amity, catching sight of Danielle's eyes flashing. "Did her…?"

"But it's another thing to bully my friends. Just like The Good Witch Azura said when facing down her rival Hecate at the Bog of Immediate Regret..." said Luz, pointing at Amity. "I challenge you to a Witch's Duel!"

"Ah! Luz, wait…" said Danielle, running to Luz's side. "I don't think this is a good idea."

"I accept," said Amity, moving forward and staring Luz down. "Let's set the terms for this duel, shall we?"

"One, if I win, you apologize to King for squashing his cupcake," said Luz, staring at Amity while pointing at King.

"You know," said Danielle, looking at Luz. "I can always make King some at home."

"Goodnight, sweet child," said King, picking up his cupcake before hearing Danielle. "Wait… what?"

"And two, you admit that humans can be witches too," said Luz, staring at Amity.

"And no one hears me," said Danielle, rubbing her forehead. "Fantastico."

"Fine by me. But when I win, not only do you have to tell the whole covention you're not a witch, you have to stop training forever," said Amity, before looking at Danielle. "And you as well."

"Do not bring me into this," said Danielle, raising her voice slightly and eyeing Amity. "I was trying to stop this from happening. I prefer peace over fighting."

"Do it, Luz!" said King, gripping his cupcake. "For my honor. Also, I'll take those cupcakes you mentioned Danielle."

"Someone did hear me," thought Danielle, looking at King. "Grazie!"

"Fine," said Luz, extending her hand. "Let's shake on it."

"No! Wait, stop…" said Danielle, seeing Amity draw a spell circle around Luz's wrist before groaning. "Nooo…"

"The everlasting oath is sealed," said Amity, shaking Luz's hand before pulling her hand back and the spell circle disappearing.

"That's probably fine," said Luz, staring at her hand.

"Meet back inside the theater in one hour," said Amity, flipping her hair and walking away. "Let's see what kind of witch you are."

"King, I-I can win this, right?" asked Luz, staring at King.

"Mmm?" said King, eating the crushed cupcake. "Oh, yeah. No."

"Uuuh…" said Danielle, rubbing her forehead. "Santo cielo."

Meanwhile, Eda was trying to sneak out of the convention. Unfortunately, Lilith spotted her while giving autographs to a few students that had attended.

"Sister?" said Lilith, staring at Eda. "It's been so long since I've seen you last! What are you wearing? You look like some sort of trash collector. Oh, right. You are."

"Oh, Lily. I just had to see the leader of the Emperor's Coven in action," said Eda, before leaning down and staring at the students. "You know, when we were kids, Lilith was so excited to see the Emperor's Coven, she peed a little."

"That… That's all for today," said Lilith, blushing in embarrassment before ushering the students away before staring back at Eda. "You shouldn't even be here. You're a wanted criminal! Unless... I don't believe it! You are here to join the Emperor's Coven!"

"In your dreams," said Eda, laughing.

"You think being covenless makes you so much smarter than everyone else," said Lilith, pointing at Eda. "But while you run from the law like a degenerate, I'm mentoring the next generation of powerful witch students into the world."

"Well, I have two students," said Eda, glaring at Lilith. "And I bet they could wipe the floor with any of your prissy little blue bloods."

"Is that a challenge?" asked Lilith, stepping forward.

"Oh, it's a promise," said Eda, only for Luz to pop up between them.

"Eda, I need your help! I accidentally challenged Amity to a witch's duel, and I think she's going to kill me all the way dead!" said Luz, slumping to the ground.

"Yeah," said Danielle, finally catching up to Luz and seeing Eda. "She got herself into a situation."

"Mmm, it seems your student has met my strongest protégé. And look at those ears!" said Lilith, spotting Luz's ears and pulling Danielle's hair back to reveal her ears. "Are they human? Where did you even find one of these, let alone two? Okay, Edalyn."

"This can't be good," said Danielle, covering her ear back up with her hair.

"For one day, you won't have to hide from the law, because I want to see how good a teacher you really are," said Lilith, burning all of Eda's wanted posters in the building before walking away.

"Come on, kids," said Eda, staring at the girls. "Time to prepare for bloodshed."

"But... whose blood?" asked Luz, staring at Eda.

"Anyone's guess!" said Eda, patting the girls back.

"Hopefully, no one's," said Danielle, rubbing her arm.

Walking towards a hallway, Eda straps on a headband. Staring at the girls, Eda starts a small lesson.

"All right, Luz and Danielle," said Eda, facing the girls. "Let's start your training. Now, I'm coming at you with a blast of fire. What do you do?"

"Dodge like a bat out of hell," said Danielle, seeing Luz pull her hood over her head then curling into a fetal position.

"Oh, that's right. I haven't taught you two many spells, huh?" said Eda, seeing the girls nod their heads no. "Boy, I hope you didn't make an everlasting oath to stop learning magic or anything. You'd be toast."

"Not me," said Danielle, slightly pointing at Luz. "Her."

"I-Is there a glowy hand thing that happens, or, uh…" said Luz, before hearing Amity nearby.

"Abomination. Rise," said Amity, summoning an abomination that twists its head off and throws it, hitting a member of the baker's coven.

"Wait…" thought Danielle, staring at Eda. "Does Eda think I'm part of the fight?"

"Ooh, boy," said Eda, staring at the Shorter Prisoner still affected by the power glyph and tossing the baker's coven member.

"I can't believe we're gonna have to stop learning magic!" said Luz, staring at the ceiling.

"And I'm a part of it now," said Danielle, leaning against the wall. "I never even shook on the everlasting oath. Amity just added me to it."

"Listen to me, Luz and Danielle," said Eda, grabbing the girls attention. "We are not gonna let those snobs win that easy! We are not gonna let them win at all. I've got an idea."

"But it's a fight between Luz and Amity," said Danielle, staring at Eda. "How do I factor into this fight?"

"We'll think of something," said Eda, clapping Danielle's shoulder.

While Danielle and Luz waited outside the stadium, Eda had set up various traps in the arena. Seeing Lilith and Amity about to enter, Eda ushers the girls out. Both girls were a nervous wreck though Danielle more so when seeing they had garnered quite an audience.

"Così tante persone! Respira, respira!" said Danielle, staring at the audience then at Lilith and Amity. "Oh Signore, per favore lasciami sopravvivere a questo!"

"Beloved citizens, the Emperor's Coven proudly presents an impromptu demonstration of the sort of witch we seek every year. Introducing Amity Blight," said Lilith, ushering Amity forward. "Versus... two human girls."

"I made a bet with the short haired human," said Amity, staring at Lilith. "Not the long-haired human."

"Oh," said Lilith, staring back and forth between Amity and Danielle. "I bet you can handle them both anyway."

"Cosa!" shouted Danielle, hearing and startling Lilith and Amity. "You want me to fight now?"

"I don't see why not," said Lilith, staring at Danielle. "Let's see what you're made of."

"You got to be kidding me," said Danielle, staring at Lilith and Amity before looking at Eda. "Now what?"

"Looks like you're fighting," said Eda, clapping Danielle's shoulder.

"I'd prefer not," thought Danielle, silently crying.

"Humans?" said a student in the audience, seeing the girls.

"Humans can't do magic!" said another student, eyeing the girls.

"They're not Amity!" said a third student, Willow and Gus nearby looking nervous for Danielle and Luz.

"Eda?" said Luz, grabbing Eda's arms while Danielle hid behind her. "What am I going to do?"

"Calm down," said Eda, pulling Luz's arms off her and pushing Danielle out from behind her before pointing to some noticeable mounds in the arena floor. "You see those mounds? Get Amity to land on one of those and she'll set off my magic traps."

"Not happening," said Danielle, not liking Eda's idea.

"That's cheating!" said Luz, staring at Eda.

"Nobody will know. To all eyes up there it'll look like you're performing magic," said Eda, pointing at the audience. "Just trust me."

"But I will know in my heart!" said Luz, her hand over her heart. "Even if I win now, I lose."

"I agree with Luz," said Danielle, gripping the charms on her necklace.

"That's the spirit!" said Eda, staring at the girls.

A bell rings and screams. Luz and Danielle, still nervous, and Amity, confident, approach each other as the audience cheers though Danielle was a little further behind Luz. Amity cracks her knuckles. Luz waves. Danielle nervously looks around.

"Abomination. Rise," said Amity, an abomination of hers towers over the girls. "Whoa. Show me what you got, humans!"

"I'm not good under pressure!" said Luz, running away from the abomination.

"Go away! Go away!" shouted Danielle, running alongside Luz though she was further ahead.

The abomination groans. It twists its head off and throws it at the girls. Its head just misses. Luz and Danielle are backed up against the wall by the advancing abomination, its head regrown. They sink to the ground in fear, whimpering, and grows nervous when they realize they're right in front of one of Eda's mounds. The girls brace as the abomination steps on it. The abomination looks down as a towering jet of fire erupts from the mound.

"How did you do that?" asked Amity, staring at the girls.

"I, uh…" said Luz, before doing jazz hands. "Magic?"

"Hehehe," giggled Danielle, nervously.

"Things that are free, people are giving offerings to me!" sang King, entering the stadium before standing behind Willow and Gus. "I love offerings! What did I miss?"

"Luz and Danielle are in a witch's duel!" replied Willow, staring at King.

"Yeah! And they could win it all!" said Gus, before cheering. "Yeah-yeah!"

"Weh!" said King, surprised and seeing the girls down in the arena.

The steaming abomination steps onto another mound, this one producing a current of air strong enough to launch it and Amity into the air. Amity screams. The abomination grunts as it lands on its back. Amity lands, kneeling.

"I-I saw you that time!" said Amity, pointing at the girls. "You didn't use your hands! What are you getting at?"

"Not dying!" said Luz, before seeing Danielle breathing heavy. "You okay?"

"I'm not use to this," replied Danielle, trying and failing to calm down. "Too many people… all staring… don't like…"

"This is not good," thought Luz, seeing that Danielle wasn't doing so good. "We got to end this quickly."

"This I gotta see!" said King, going down the rows.

"Go Amity!" sad the third student, waving a foam finger around.

"Hey! You root for Luz and Danielle or nobody!" shouted King, about to jump the third student only to trip on his scarf and start falling towards the arena, his offerings falling off as he falls.

Meanwhile, Danielle and Luz are still dodging the abomination as it still gives chase. Setting off trap after trap. Danielle cartwheels away from a trap that the abomination set off too close to her.

"Wha… how?" thought Danielle, seeing that she did a perfect cartwheel. "How'd I do that? I could never do a cartwheel before."

"How are you doing that?" asked Amity, angry and walking towards a fallen Luz.

"No, Amity, don't step any closer!" said Luz, seeing Amity about to walk onto a trap.

"Why, Luz?" asked Amity, looking at the ground then Luz. "What happens if I step closer?"

"King?" said Danielle, hearing and seeing King before hitting the ground and setting off the trap, spikes bursting from the ground. "King!"

"Mmm?" said King, seeing that he wasn't impaled. "I'm okay!"

"I'll get you down," said Danielle, running towards King and trying to figure out how to get him down.

"Spikes?" said Luz, seeing Eda give her two thumbs up.

"I knew it!" said Amity, pointing at the girls while Lilith walked to stand beside her. "You were cheating!"

"Amity…" said Luz, staring at Amity. "No!"

"Oh, Eda," said Lilith, touching a spike and it crumbling under her touch. "I do believe this means you lose!"

"It wasn't my idea to cheat," said Luz, stepping forwards. "And when I found out, I tried to stop it, but…"

"No. No one wins," said Danielle, confusing everyone nearby. "This is ridiculous. This wouldn't have happened if you two didn't bicker and start fighting. Now someone is going to be hurt because of this."

"Who could believe anything you say?" said Amity, upset and walking away.

"Tu piccolo...!" said Danielle, angry and upset, her eyes sparking white momentarily.

"Wait just a sec, Miss Protégé," said Eda, stopping Amity.

"Hey! What are you…" said Amity, Eda pushing her hair to the side and peeling something off.

"A power glyph from the Construction Coven," said Eda, showing the power glyph she peeled off Amity's neck.

"I mean..." said the Oracle Student, gasping before narrowing her eyes. "I knew it."

"She cheated!" said Willow, whispering to Gus in a hushed tone.

"Ah-ha! Yes, yes, yes-yes-yes! You cheated," said Eda, doing a little victory dance. "Perfect, prissy Lilith cheated. Hot dang, I love coventions! La-la-la…"

"I only did that because I knew you would cheat!" said Lilith, staring at Eda who was still doing her victory dance.

"Still cheated!" said Eda, pointing at Lilith. "Welcome down to my level!"

"Just stop," said Danielle, pushing her hair back and looking at Eda. "This is only making the situation worse."

"But... I didn't know!" said Amity, rubbing her neck, Danielle staring at her concerned.

"Amity, wait!" said Luz, seeing Amity run away.

"Luz! Danielle!" said King, struggling to get free. "Help me!"

"Go," said Danielle, staring at Luz. "I'll help King. You go after Amity."

"¡Gracias!" said Luz, running after Amity.

"Here we go," said Danielle, grabbing King's paws and pulling him free, setting him down and petting his cheek. "There, better?"

"My offerings!" shouted King, his offerings torn off him when Danielle got him free.

"We'll get you more offerings," said Danielle, rubbing his cheek before seeing Eda still doing a victory dance. "Will you please stop? This isn't helping."

"Knock it off," said Lilith, angrily watching Eda still do her victory dance. "You're making a scene!"

"You cheated," said Eda, pointing at Lilith. "Hey, where's the Rhyming Coven? What rhymes with cheated?"

"Stop acting like a child!" shouted Lilith, Eda still egging her on.

"You were defeated, don't get heated, get your stank face treated," said Eda, finding a rhyme.

"Eda!" said Danielle, eyeing Eda. "That's enough."

"Rhyme one more thing," said Lilith, glaring at Eda. "I dare you!"

"Oh, it's okay, I'm done," said Eda, pausing before thinking of another rhyme. "Because my rhymes are depleted!"

"She isn't gonna stop," said Danielle, seeing the situation get worse. "Is she?"

"Nope," replied King, staring at the scene.

"That's it!" said Lilith, screaming.

Lilith summons her staff and hits Eda with a blast of energy, throwing her through her spikes and into the wall behind the podium. Danielle holds King close as to not be hit. The audience gasps. Willow, Danielle and Gus gasp. The cloud of Lilith's blue magic clears out. Eda, splayed against the wall, smirks.

"Eda!" shouted Danielle, concerned for Eda.

"There she is!" said Eda, smiling.

Eda summons her own staff and spins it in a circle only for it to fly out of her hand and clatter on the ground. Eda picks it back up with a roar and sends a burst of energy at Lilith. Lilith grunts and sends one back. Lilith's blue magic and Eda's orange magic are evenly matched. Their magic explodes in a white light. Meanwhile Luz finally catches up to Amity sulking in a dark corner next to the bathrooms.

"Amity..." said Luz, walking over. "I'm sorry."

"Ugh, seriously?" said Amity, seeing Luz before turning away. "Just leave me alone."

"I didn't mean to embarrass you," said Luz, staring at Amity. "Or Danielle."

"That's all you two ever do!" said Amity, putting her hand on her head. "First at school, and now this!"

"Yeah, but…" said Luz, staring at the ground.

"You made me look like a fool in front of the Emperor's Coven. My future! You think it's so easy to be a witch. I have been working my whole life to get to the top!" said Amity, standing up and pointing at Luz. "You lost! You cheated! Say it! Say you're not a witch!"

"I'm not a witch," said Luz, bending down and drawing a certain pattern on her notepad, a ball of light produced and cupped by her, smiling and confusing Amity. "But I'm training hard to be one. And so is Danielle."

Back at the stadium, Lilith is spinning her staff stopping Eda's burst of energy before sending out one of her own. Eda takes a few steps back, spinning and drawing a spell circle on the ground. Eda lifts her hand, creating a growing pillar of wood, that looked like Hooty, split Lilith's attack. The pillar bends, its owl face hooting lowly. Lilith stares at it, then teleports away from its approaching beak.

"Stop," said Danielle, staring at the battling witches. "Stop it! This is getting out of hand."

Stray magic enters the audience. The audience scream and flee. Two new owl faces extend from the large pillar. Eda draws four more spell circles on the opposite side. Lilith easily teleports away from all of their beaks, destroying one on the ground, then three in the air with a grunt. Eda smirks and spins her staff, creating an orange shield as Lilith hits it with magic and her staff. The shield cracks, but Eda's expression doesn't change. Owlbert's eyes glow. He flies into Lilith's face, interrupting her attack. He hoots and pulls her hair.

"Ow, ow, ow-ow-ow," said Lilith, her hair pulled by Owlbert, distracting her from Eda. "Ow-ow-ow-ow-ow!"

"Enough…" said Danielle, her words drowning on deaf ears, tears forming in the corners of her eyes. "Enough…"

"Say goodnight, sister," said Eda, spinning her staff and smacks the butt of it into the wooden pillar.

A large Hooty face forms right next to Lilith, and with a hoot, it captures her in its beak. All falls silent. Owlbert lands back on Eda's staff. Eda smiles at him, then looks concerned when she sees the flaming hole in the new owl tube's side. Lilith appears directly behind her.

"Enough of this," said Lilith, about to strike Eda.

"I said…" said Danielle, raising her voice. "SMETTILA!"

Danielle gasps. A strange energy bursting through her body, lighting her up in a white aura. The symbol that she found in her bag that day, appears on her forehead and her irises go white and the corner of her eyes have a little white wisp. A blast of magic energy sweeps not only through the stadium but through the whole isles and nearby landmasses. It startles everyone in the building. Even Luz and Amity felt it. Even startling Aster and the emperor in the castle and a dark being laying in his shadow.

"What the…?" said Eda, staring at Danielle worriedly.

"Ti prego…" said Danielle, about to pass out. "Per favore... fermati."

"Danielle!" shouted Eda, running towards and grabbing Danielle before she fully hit the ground.

"Is she going to be okay?" asked King, running over to Eda and Danielle.

"I… I don't know," said Eda, pushing a lock of Danielle's hair to the side.

"That human has magic," said Lilith, eyeing Danielle before standing up. "Edalyn, hand her over."

"For what?" asked Eda, staring at Lilith.

"I'm taking her to the emperor," said Lilith, walking towards Eda, who pulled Danielle closer, King on all fours glaring at Lilith. "A human with magic must be monitored. She'll get the proper training she needs at the castle."

"Are you nuts?" shouted Eda, glaring at Lilith. "I'm not letting that creep of an emperor anywhere near Danielle."

"Hooooooo," said Owlbert, hopping down and rubbing against Danielle's face concerned. "Hooo."

"This is nonnegotiable," said Lilith, about to attack Eda.

Unfortunately, Lilith never got the chance. Some of Danielle's magic had seeped into Owlbert. Hooting loudly, Owlbert flies a little above Eda before producing a goldish white owl shaped barrier that sent out a pulse of magic. Seeing an opportunity, Eda lifts Danielle up before Owlbert flew down and went into staff form. Jumping onto her staff, with King in tow. Eda hightails it out of the stadium holding Danielle in place. Spotting Luz, Eda grabs her by the back of her shirt collar, startling the girl, before heading out the convention doors and back straight to the owl house. Laying Danielle down on the couch, Eda deeply sighs while rubbing her forehead.

"What happened?" asked Luz, staring at Eda then Danielle. "Why is Danielle passed out?"

"Magic," replied Eda, staring at Luz then Danielle who was being nuzzled by Owlbert. "She literally has magic."

"Like you?" asked Luz, starry eyed. "Maybe I'm not that far away from unlocking mine."

"Mmm," said Danielle, stirring awake before sitting upright. "Hmmm?"

"Danielle," said Eda, gaining Danielle's attention. "Are you okay?"

"I think so…" said Danielle, holding the side of her head. "I feel funny. Is this… my magic? So… much… it kinda… hurts."

"Easy there," said Eda, sitting next to Danielle, Luz sitting on the opposite side of her with King hopping into her lap. "Using magic like that for the first time can be pretty taxing."

"What happened?" asked Danielle, staring at Eda before realizing something and staring at Luz. "Were you able to get the oath unbound?"

"Yes," replied Luz, staring at Danielle. "Amity unbound the oath before Eda grabbed me."

"That's good," said Danielle, petting King.

"The better question is…" said Eda, eyeing Danielle. "Who are you really?"

"What are you saying? I'm human…" said Danielle, before thinking. "Aren't I?"

Meanwhile back at the convention, after recovering from not only Danielle's magic burst but also Owlbert's as well, Lilith heads to a room in the back of the building. Opening the door, Lilith straightens out her hair before what looked to be a gold compact communication device flips open and small red demon is seen on screen.

"Lilith, I see you let The Owl Lady get the best of your temper," said the Small Red Demon, eyeing Lilith. "Just remember what Emperor Belos has promised to you."

"I will capture her, ma'am. You have my word," said Lilith, bowing before looking at the Small Red Demon. "Also let the emperor know, I found a young human girl that can use magic. I'll procure her as well."

"A human… using magic?" said the Small Red Demon, surprised by such information. "I will let him know."

Ending the call, Lilith stares at her reflection on the communication screen. Thoughts enter her mind on how best to capture not only her sister but this human known as Danielle, as well.

"Your days are numbered, Edalyn," said Lilith, talking to herself. "And that human will be under the emperor's thumb. We can't have a human that can use magic wondering around."
