Chapter Ten

"Whoa," squeaked Danielle, twisting in the air and landing shakily on a floating slab. "I think I'm getting better with these landings."

"Danielle!" shouted Aster, floating towards Danielle before checking her from different angles.

"Is everything okay?" asked Danielle, before Aster comes face to face with her. "You seem concerned."

"I am," replied Aster, staring at Danielle. "You're magic practically flooded the isles. I felt it at the castle."

"Yeah," said Danielle, scratching the back of her head. "It's been a long day."

"What happened?" asked Aster, sitting Indian style.

"I'm not really sure myself," replied Danielle, sitting Indian style as well. "I was getting upset that Eda was fighting her sister and them not listening. It got to the point that I guess I snapped."

"That must have triggered it," said Aster, confusing Danielle. "Some people can access their magic immediately and others need a trigger. Sounds like you were the latter."

"I'm usually so good at keeping that in check," said Danielle, looking like she was about to pass out and shaking her head back to awareness. "I don't like seeing people fight or getting hurt. Nor do I like getting mad and such."

"You don't like getting mad?" said Aster, staring at Danielle. "Why? It's normal to get mad on occasions."

"I know," said Danielle, sighing. "But it's just not me to really get mad. Or at least really show it."

"Bottling up emotions is not a good thing, especially if you have magic," said Aster, remembering certain lessons from back home. "They'll come back out and not in a good way."

"I'm afraid to even ask," said Danielle, placing her hand against her head. "Oooh…"

"Maybe you should go back and get some rest," said Aster, seeing Danielle not looking so good. "Your magic coming out like that can be pretty taxing. I'm surprised that you're having an out of body tonight because of it."

"Well, I'm here. How about a small game then?" said Danielle, clapping her hands before seeing a small light between them. "Huh?"

"Did you just…" said Aster, seeing Danielle cup her hands and revealing a small ball of white light. "Magic… you just did magic!"

"I did… didn't I," said Danielle, smiling while looking at the ball of white light. "Maybe we can play catch with it. What'cha think?"

"You sure?" asked Aster, staring at Danielle. "You look like you really need to sleep."

"I know you like it when I come and play with you," said Danielle, rubbing the top of Aster's head. "A little game won't hurt."

"Okay," said Aster, going through the tablet with Danielle following him. "This a good enough distance?"

"Yup. Here it comes," said Danielle, tossing the ball of light and seeing Aster catch it. "Nice catch."

"Awesome, here you go," said Aster, tossing the ball of light back.

"Got it," said Danielle, before tossing the ball of light back to Aster.

"Hehehe, this is fun… huh," said Aster, noticing a pink line in the ball of light. "Hey, Danielle. Check this out."

"What is it?" asked Danielle, Aster showing her the pink line. "Whoa, I just added a new color to the ball."

"That's awesome," said Aster, tracing his finger on the pink line. "You were able to change a little bit of the light."

"Light?" asked Danielle, confused.

"Yes, light. This is Light Magic," said Aster, cupping the ball of light. "A sphere is the most basic shape for Light Magic. You can shape it into other forms. The more complex it is requires more focus."

"That's cool," said Danielle, Aster handing the ball of light back to her. "I have an idea. Let's see how many colors I can add while playing catch."

"That sounds neat," said Aster, going back to his position in the room.

Tossing the ball of light back and forth, Danielle was able to get quite a few colors added. Blue, red, purple, green, and orange now adorned the ball of light. The two were a little loud during their game and had alerted someone in a nearby room. Walking down the hallway, the person grumbles before swinging the doors open.

"Collector, what is going on in…" shouted an elderly man, only for the ball of light to explode in midair blinding him. "Gaaaaaaah!"

"I did not mean for that to happen," said Danielle, wincing as the elderly man slammed into a pillar before going as close as she can to the elderly man before seeing a dark mass hanging off him. "Huh?"

"Hi Philip," said Aster, twirling around a pillar and hanging upside down. "How's your night going?"

Philip was an elderly man that was much taller than Danielle. Had a pale complexion, light-blue eyes, wrinkled lips, and long, rugged, ash-blond hair reaching past his shoulders. Had pointy ears with the left one having a notch. Had a large basil-green scar running across his face and down his neck. Wore a large white and brown cape with gold trim over a baggy gray tunic and black pants tucked into both his golden gloves and brown boots.

"What is the meaning of this?" shouted Philip, staring at Aster while covering his nose. "I thought you said you couldn't do magic in that form."

"Look closely," said a dark voice, whispering into Philip's ear and allowing him to see.

"Aah, I see," thought Philip, seeing Danielle. "I finally get to meet him again after so many years."

"Hey Philip," said Aster, shaking his hand back and forth in front of Philip's face. "You there?"

"Never mind what I just said," said Philip, straightening his cape. "Just keep it down."

"He can't see me, can he?" asked Danielle, floating close to Aster.

"Nope," replied Aster, whispering to Danielle.

"I can," said the dark voice, startling and scaring Danielle.

"Stai bene?" asked Aster, seeing Danielle freeze up.

"There…There's something dark attached to Philip," replied Danielle, floating backwards away from Philip. "I'm not liking it. It doesn't feel… I don't feel comfortable around it. I feel like it could attack me at any moment."

"What?" said Aster, staring from Danielle to Philip. "I don't see anything."

"But…" said Danielle, cringing when seeing the dark mass move. "It's there… really… it's-it's there."

"Odd, I usually see certain spirits around Philip," said Aster, not knowing Philip watching him. "Why can't I see this one?"

"Something on your mind Collector," asked Philip, eyeing Aster.

"Hehehehe," said the dark voice, chuckling eerily while eyeing Danielle. "Let's have a little fun."

Crawling creepily towards Danielle in swirls, the dark mass takes form. A large humanoid mass of darkness, its eyes blazing a dark red. A wicked smile showing its shadowy fangs. Its short shadowy hair billowy about. Its clawed hands inches away from grasping Danielle.

"So meek, so weak," said the dark figure, so close to Danielle that she was quivering at the mere sight of this being, tears forming in the corner of her eyes. "Such a perfect night. For a fright. Don't you think so, Light?"

"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!" screamed Danielle, the dark being scaring her so much, it practically had her go back straight to her body.

"Danielle…" whispered Aster, startled and concerned when Danielle screamed. "Danielle!"

"My my, already so attached," said the Dark Being, swirls of dark energy cascading off it and heading towards Aster. "But I've been around this child and Scarlet Eyes far longer. Let's rectify this then shall we."

"Danielle… ow, ow, ow-ow-ow," said Aster, clutching his head and wincing in pain, the swirls of dark energy crawling all over him. "Headache… headache… ow-ow-ow."

"Glad to see you reign him in," said Philip, walking towards the doors. "Keep it that way Dark."

"Mmmhmmhmmhmm," chuckled Dark, eyeing Philip than Aster. "Oh, I will. Hahahahahahaha!"

"Play… I want to play…" said Aster, his eyes flashing scarlet and chuckling not his normal playful lighthearted chuckle but a dark and sinister one. "Chaos… Destruction… Hehehehe… I want to play!"
