A MAJOR rewrite of a story I just yanked. Elizabeth goes to London to visit an old friend, meets a new one. Neither one realizes just how connected she will become to the Bennets or just how much of a fight is heading Longborne's way. I could only list four characters though all will be shown at one point, or another.

It is the morning after the Netherfield ball and Mr. Darcy discovers his valet is missing. There is little trace of him, and he is not the sort to get into mischief. However, soon they discover there was much more to this valet than they know. Completely new version. Different plot with similar beginning.

What if Mrs Bennet's well-known silliness and bad behaviour were mostly an act? What if she was simply a loving, if sometimes misguided, mother who hoped to ensure her five girls could find more happiness in life than she had? This will be a little longer than planned (was going to be a short story, but now we will see). Comments are welcome as always.

While Darcy is away, 17 year old Lizzie marries COL Fitzwilliams. When a letter brings Darcy back a few years later, he finds tragedy and Lizzie, who is prejudiced at first sight, but not for long . What if . . . Mrs. Gardiner's Lambton relations had been a little more well-to-do and what if she had stronger and longer ties to them and to Derbyshire? In this variation Elizabeth begins to spend summers with the Gardiners in Derbyshire at a fairly young age. As a result she develops her own ties to that part of the world and its people, including the Darcy's of Pemberley.

Lizzy did not think it was very fair to bring two innocent people into the fray by forcing them to endure a Bennet family dinner. But the sweet temptation of her mother's future silence was too much to pass upon. Modern P&P AU, Lizzy & William try to avoid the complication of fake dating when she is thrust into his workplace.
