Just missed ya

"…That's weird," went Misato as she and the others had appeared in front of the Mistralton Gym, seeing a man with a woman dressed in flying gear. "Shouldn't Shinji be here?"

"There's the Gym Leader," said Asuka, suggesting that they should ask her. "She'll likely know something on where he is."

It was only Misato, Kensuke, Toji, Hikari, Rei, the Bridge Bunnies and Pen-Pen; Fuyutsuki, Ritsuko and Antonio had to forgo returning to the Pokémon world because they had to make sure there was stability in their universe before they could risk going back to see Shinji's progression. Still, just seeing them would ease Shinji to know that they could still come back and had some good news.

"Uh, excuse us," Toji got the woman's attention. "We're friends of Shinji Ikari. Have you seen him around here? He'd have an Eevee with him, wearing a purple and green scarf?"

"Yeah, I fought him two days ago," the woman, Skyla, responded. "He was quite the skilled Pokémon Trainer. He relied on his Eevee, Charizard and Audino to win, though the former two Pokémon were much stronger than the latter third."

"So, he was here," Rei expressed. "Do you know where he went?"

"After taking his Pokémon to the Pokémon Center, he said he was heading towards Icirrius City to get his seventh badge. I told him the fastest way to get there would be to take the path through Twist Mountain in between here and there. Though, most people tend to avoid it because of the Pokémon that live there, but he actually seemed convinced to go there."

"If it's got Pokémon he hasn't caught yet, he'll definitely go there," Kensuke explained, taking out his map. "With any luck, we can catch up to him."

-x-

"Good grief, Misato," said Shinji to his Eevee as they walked out of the cave of Twist Mountain, having faced about thirty strong Pokémon and catching close to forty-seven while they were inside. "I don't think I want to see another Beartic until after we get to Icirrius City."

"Eee," she agreed with him; the Cubchoo were fine with her, but their evolved form was not something she wanted to face unless it was outside an enclosed space where there was very little room to run around. "Eee?"

"Huh? Is something wrong, Misato?"

Misato looked back at the cave of the mountain, getting a feeling that there was something that she and Shinji missed or overlooked while they were in there.

"Eevo," she pointed her tail and right forepaw back to the cave.

"We need to go back?" He asked her.

"Eevo."

Shinji looked back to the cave and mountain and sighed. He couldn't question his Eevee's understanding of what was going on in this world better than he could perceive. It was just like when they were in Sinnoh and they were lost in that cave…and they found their friends were there. If this was just like that, then he had to follow her.

"You think our friends are in the mountain?" He asked her.

"Eevo," she chirped.

"Then let's go see them."

She ran back towards the cave and he followed her.

"…Well, we've finally confirmed that whenever we experience power outages, travel back to the Pokémon world causes a location distance between the visiting individuals and the displaced subject," said Antonio to his father over the phone, keeping him updated on the project. "We're hoping that there will be no more outages now that one of the interfering factors has been removed. The Virtual Pokémon? They're just wandering through cyberspace, Father. They're harmless. With any luck, we should be able to open a portal for a longer timeframe and pull out a common Pokémon because we need to be able to have a better understanding of their biological adaptability. Palkia and Mr. Aida's Machamp have no problems so far living in this world, but we can't be certain about other Pokémon until further attempts can be made. Thank you, Father. Good day to you, as well."

Hanging up, he sighed and looked up at Palkia.

"I heard everything," the Spatial Pokémon told him. "You're both cautious on making sure Pokémon or other creatures from inhabited world can't be harmed by your own world's environmental factors, however many or however susceptibilities there may exist."

"The worst environmental hazard that was ever unleashed was the use of nuclear energy as a weapon in warfare," Antonio revealed to the beast. "The levels of radiation now are low enough to be considered non-lethal, but if just one thing goes wrong to risk causing a nuclear spill somewhere, nearby places where these things go down can be endangered until experts in containing radiation show up and deal with the situation."

"I will confess that before your people found me, I did experience mild discomfort where I was located. But after relocating here to this country that is maimed by its perpetual hot weather, I must say that the only risk I face is dehydration."

"Oh, well, we can't have you suffer from that, Palkia. Thank you for informing us."

"Kami," they turned and saw Kensuke's father and his son's Machamp entering the room, somewhat intimidated by the sight of the large dragon. "I don't believe it."

"Uh, Yusuke Aida?" Antonio questioned, greeting the man.

"Yes."

"How nice of you to join us today."

"After my previous boss was fired and gathering up my wits to speak with my new boss, I was surprised to be suggested to come here and see where my son spends his days in a coma in order to see his friend. I really didn't expect to see another… Honestly, I am worried about the future right now."

"In what way?"

"When my son brought Brute-Chan home, I was worried that he had accidentally unleashed a monster upon us. But then he explained that Pokémon were friendly and there is hardly any such proof of a Pokémon going bad and acting aggressive towards people, that it's mainly the fault of people that treat them like they're some type of weapon or what have you. He then said that how he and Shinji had met a group of people that did such a thing with Pokémon…and how it affected Shinji."

Antonio nodded and recalled how he had reviewed such footage and saw Shinji's reactions to this Team Rocket and their cruelty towards Pokémon. There was no doubt that there were people in this world that would echo such cruelty if they ever obtained Pokémon and started cherry picking the best ones from the worst ones.

"So far, we're still a ways away from attempting to bring flesh and blood Pokémon to this world," he told the father, then pointed to the monitor console where most of the observation was focused. "We should be able to see where they are on the monitors there."

They went over and saw on the screens that Kensuke and the others had just entered a cave entrance to a mountain…while on another screen, they saw Shinji and his Eevee walking through a tunnel.

"Are they in the same place?" Yusuke asked Antonio.

"Yeah, but they're far from where they would be in they were in the same place. When the power supply for the subconscious travel between worlds is stable, everyone in this world is able to just show up where Shinji is. But when the power is unstable or just needs a while to re-stabilize, people still end up where he is, but could be over a mile from each other. But seeing as Shinji is always with one of his Pokémon out of their Poké Balls, he has someone that can lead him to them faster than a police dog."

-x-

"Whoa," Asuka went as she saw some broken rocks on the ground and claw marks on the cave walls. "Looks like a battle went down in here."

"Yeah," agreed Hikari as she picked up a piece of stone. "Wanna bet that Shinji came out victorious here?"

"No, no bet. Shinji's always coming out on top."

"Hmm?" They heard Maya as she looked over at a small crack in the walls. "Hey, I found something over here!"

She reached in with her left arm and pulled it out, revealing that it was a Poké Ball. It was an Ultra Ball with the letters "I" and "S" marked on the white underside of it.

"I.S.?" She questioned.

"Ikari, Shinji," Rei suspected. "This must be one of his Poké Balls."

"He probably dropped it when he was trying to catch a Pokémon he didn't have doesn't have," Toji suggested, looking at the ball and pressing the button on it, opening it to reveal it was empty. "That's predictable."

Rumble! The ground shook a little.

"Earthquake?" Shigeru suspected.

"That didn't feel like one," said Misato told him, and then the rumble occurred again. "It sounds like…footsteps."

"Big ones," added Hikari.

"Heavy ones," Asuka finished.

It was getting closer to where they were right now, and then Hyuga saw something big come from around a corner in the tunnel.

"Oh!" He gasped. "Who's that Pokémon?!"

It looked like a large polar bear, but had ice forming under its jaw and ice cube-like structures formed under its fur coat. It stood over eight feet.

"Run!" Misato yelled, and they ran as far from the creature that was clearly a wild Pokémon that was now chasing after them, probably a territorial dispute.

-x-

Shinji had felt some sort of rumbling as he and Misato went back to where they last stopped to rest in the cave, and wondered if there was something going on.

"Brings back memories, huh, Misato?" He asked the Eevee.

"Eee," she replied.

"…Tic…" They heard something down the tunnel. "Beartic!"

"Oh, no," Shinji realized that this mountain had a few more Beartic than he cared to admit. "I think we missed one."

"Eevo," Misato groaned; she was hoping that Shinji had caught enough Beartic to satisfy the people that often held onto them for Shinji while he traveled, but at the thought of there being another one to catch, the Evolution Pokémon had to admit that it was going to be troublesome if they had to catch another.

"Keep running!" They heard a voice following the roaring Beartic.

"Oh, yeah, it definitely brings back memories!" Shinji realized, picking up Misato and running towards the noise.

"Eee!"

-x-

"What is that, a bear?" Yusuke Aida asked Antonio as they saw the Beartic chase after Misato and the others.

"A Beartic," Antonio expressed, having seen one before. "They should be close to Shinji, and he'll be able to resolve the issue before it escalates."

"What could he do against that? I don't see a solution unless he has a Pokémon of considerable strength that can match it."

"Just keep watching."

-x-

"Hey, over here!" Shinji shouted as he and Misato were on a bridge, looking up at some people that ran onto another bridge above them.

One of the people looked down at them, and Shinji recognized it was Rei.

"Beartic!" She gasped as they ran bridge as the Beartic charged over and nearly slashed at them with its claws! "Aaah!"

Shinji removed one of his Poké Balls and unleashed his Charizard to defend.

"Go! Fire Blast!" He ordered Asuka, and she let the Beartic have it.

Blast! Beartic was burnt by the Fire Blast and fell to the ground.

"Ha!" Toji grunted as he threw the Ultra Ball they had found at the Beartic, and it disappeared in a burst of red light, getting absorbed into the ball.

Ping! The ball reacted, capturing the Freezing Pokémon and falling to the ground before disappearing in another burst of light.

"Shinji!" Misato greeted the Pokémon Trainer as she ran over and hugged him for saving them. "Thank you! Thank you!"

"Gaah!" Shinji groaned as he felt his face smushed in front of Misato's bosom, much to his shock. "Can't breathe! You're suffocating me!"

She heard him groan and released him from her embrace.

"We heard you won against Skyla and had to pass through this mountain to reach the next gym," she explained.

"We were outside until…we had to come back inside," he responded as his Charizard landed behind him. "I didn't expect y'all to show up far from where I was and have to travel through the mountain without us. Was that Beartic the only one that chased you?"

"How many did you have to catch?" Kensuke asked him.

"A lot that Misato here has become tired of facing them. We caught a few Cubchoo, as well, but we'd rather leave this place and not come back unless we have to."

"Ga!" They heard something else nearby.

"What was that?" Hikari and Maya questioned.

Shinji got the feeling that there was something nearby that was just as much worth coming back into Twist Mountain.

BLAM! A hole in the cavern ceiling exploded open…and out came something Shinji hadn't encountered before.

"Regigigas!" It yelled, slamming onto the ground in front of them.

"A Regigigas!" Kensuke gasped.

"A what?!" Shigeru asked.

"Regigigas," went Shinji's Pokédex, "the Colossal Pokémon. In ancient lore, Regigigas is believed to have moved continents by the use of large ropes."

"It's a Legendary Pokémon and the Trio Master of Hoenn's Legendary Titans," Shinji explained further. "I can't believe a Regigigas actually showed up here!"

"I can't believe that that's a Legendary Pokémon," went Hyuga, shaking.

-x-

"…My God," Antonio gasped, taking in the sight of Regigigas as Shinji and his Eevee and Charizard stood up against it, most likely intent on catching it.

"A Legendary Pokémon?" Yusuke questioned, unable to take his eyes off the creature the displaced Shinji was now facing. "Can he really catch that?"

"If he has luck and skill on his side, he can."

The Tree of Life diagrams inscribed around Gendo's former office was not something Fuyutsuki could stand to look at most of the time, even as he was now the leader of NERV. Instead, he spent as much of his time in the command center of Central Dogma rather than his former student's office. As he was now tasked with running NERV, Fuyutsuki had a less-immoral aura of how things were getting done around the base, and so far, the Evas were at the bottom of people's to-do list as the last Angel was still confined. And Fuyutsuki had to ensure that it stayed that way; in his mind, if this Angel was condemned to spend eternity in an inescapable prison, then the Human Instrumentality Project, regardless of how much SEELE wanted to make it possible to achieve when all the Angels were defeated, couldn't be achieved, leaving the human race unchanged.

Standing in front of Evangelion Unit-01, Fuyutsuki sighed at how much everything had changed in such a short period of time since the Twelfth Angel incident. He couldn't fully comprehend how a series of unfortunate events had shifted this sense of control, of predictability, out of the hands of people that wanted so much to change the world to their likely….and into the hands of those that want only to help benefit the future of the world…and four of those hands were on opposite ends of existence; a mother who saw a bright future in the tomb of an artificial organism…and her son who loathed that future…displaced beyond time and space, beyond reality, stranded in another universe until he could return to this one, and hopefully with animals that some believed could revitalize their dying world.

He remembers what happened that day…and can't believe in it having any meaning, he thought. Other people that watch the recordings of his exploits believe him to be able to bring these creatures he has obtained, that he has seen, to our world and restore it. It would be a grand miracle if he could do it. I've seen his Pokémon in Prof. Oak's lab, and they are all incredible, including the ones that most other trainers could only dream of catching in the wild. Even Prof. Oak was stunned by Shinji's capture of Legendary and Mythical Pokémon. Even with just the ones he's caught, he's already a high-ranking celebrity with many different types, but if he wants to do greater good, some believe that he should have Pokémon capable of much greater feats associated with the other regions he's visited, like Groudon or Kyogre from the Hoenn Region or as we've come to understand as the way for him to return, the Creation Trio comprised of Palkia, Dialga and Giratina, even if he mainly needs only the former two and not the latter third. He already has one of the Weather Trio and may be destined to meet with the other two in the future. Yui, your son may have the means to a better future if Antonio Giovanni and his research team can achieve interdimensional travel between realms, and if so…then maybe we can restore you back to life. It's just a possibility, but one can hope for something better to happen than what was expected to happen.

Ring-ring! His cell phone rang and he picked up.

"Fuyutsuki," he uttered. "He caught another one? Regigigas? That's incredible. Thank you for the update."

He looked at Unit-01 again and wondered if Yui was proud of Shinji's success while displaced in another universe. There were plenty of people that were impressed by adventures and the number of Pokémon he had acquired since he ended up in the Pokémon world, but could at least one of his parents be proud of him, even though it had gone against their interests?

-x-

"…Phew!" Shinji panted as he, his Eevee and Charizard sat on the grounds in the caverns of Twist Mountain with his friends and guardian. "That was intense."

In the end, it took both Asuka AND Misato to combat Regigigas in order for Shinji to capture it…and it had been an exhausting battle. Nobody had expected Regigigas to be so strong, despite being classified as Normal-Type Pokémon.

"Shinji, are you alright?" Hikari asked him as Toji helped him back onto his feet.

"Yeah, I'll be alright," he answered her as Rei picked up his Eevee.

"Graaurgh!" His Charizard growled as she got up.

"You did good back there, Asuka," he congratulated her; her Mega Evolved form's Fire Blast combined with Misato's Iron Tail dealt critical blows to Regigigas, which tried to escape from them after realizing it was outmatched. "You and Misato did really good out there."

"Graurgh!" She growled again, but was exhausted.

"Uh, that makes how many Legendary Pokémon now?" Maya asked Shinji.

"Seventeen," he counted.

"Good Lord," Shigeru gasped. "You're practically the leader of an army of Pokémon."

"Except I'm not at war with anyone, so what would be the point of an army? There would be no point of an army."

"Right…"

Shinji opened his backpack up and pulled out several bottles of water and snacks.

"So, when did you guys get back?" He asked them.

"Over an hour ago," Misato explained as he handed her a bottle. "We were at the Mistralton Gym and spoke with Skyla, and she told us you were heading to Icirrius City through here."

"I didn't think we'd catch up to you when we did get here," went Toji as he opened a bag of chips. "Ugh…that Beartic… I thought Ursaring were scary enough."

"Pokémon are scary when they choose to chase you," Shinji expressed. "But, hey, give some details about what's going on back home. I mean, what is going on back home?"

"We were unconscious for only a day," Hikari revealed, "and the power outage that stranded us for three months was caused by your father."

"My father, of all the… It's never going to end with him."

"Actually, it kinda did end with him," said Asuka to him. "He got fired from NERV by his superiors for causing the blackout and interfering with the interdimensional project that allows us to see you. Also, Mr. Giovanni was able to bring four Pokémon into our world. Two Porygon, a Porygon2 and a Porygon-Z."

"Really? Did anyone try to catch them?"

"They're wandering across cyberspace, Shinji," Kensuke expressed. "You'd have to be a super nerd to try and catch one of them."

"Eee?" Misato chirped.

"A person too smart for their own good, Misato," Shinji told her.

"Eee."

"Shinji, you look like you're burning the candle at both ends," Asuka told him, seeing that he was looking rather tired, much more than usual.

"I guess I'm running around too much in Unova before getting ready for Kalos."

"How many more badges do you need before you qualify for the Unova League at a later time?" Hyuga asked him.

"Just two more and we can head for Kalos and compete in their league. The Icirrius Gym Leader uses Ice-Type Pokémon."

"Which Pokémon will you use?" Rei asked him.

"Asuka…a Heatmor that I nicknamed Inferuno ('Inferno'), and… Well, Misato, are you up for facing another Ice-Type Pokémon?"

"Eevo," she nodded in the negative; after the Beartic, she had faced enough Ice-Type Pokémon to last her a while.

"Say, why not use the Regigigas you just caught?" Maya suggested to him. "It's not against the rules to use Legendary Pokémon in gym matches, right?"

"Do you think Kyodaina ('Colossal') is an intimidating nickname for a Regigigas?"

"Yes!" The Bridge Bunnies declared.

"Kyodaina, you're about to become part of the team…as soon as we get to the Pokémon Center in Icirrius City."

To be continued…

A/N: I gotta be honest, I wasn't really thinking about adding Regigigas to Shinji's multitude of Pokémon, but after echoing the previous chapter where Kensuke returns after a blackout with others and they meet Shinji after encountering a territorial Pokémon with an attitude, I felt Shinji needed to face another powerful Pokémon that was a reversal of how he saved them the last time: Against an Aggron, he used his Entei to capture it, but against a Regigigas, he used his Eevee and Charizard to capture it. How do you feel now that he has one?
