Chapter Twenty-Six
School was out for the day since the greater basilisk attack yesterday. Since Danielle was still sleeping, Eda was cooking breakfast. Up in a certain bedroom, Danielle was stretching… while purring? During the night, white energy-based cat ears and fluffy tail had appeared on Danielle. Waking up, Danielle opens her eyes to reveal her pupils being white while having a gold ring around it.
"Nyaaaa," said Danielle, stretching before looking at Aster and nuzzling him. "Nya."
"Danielle, much too early," said Aster, yawning before hearing Danielle purr and looking at her. "What the?!"
"Nya," said Danielle, nose kissing Aster.
"We have a situation here," shouted Aster, floating out of the room and going down straight to the kitchen. "Eda, Luz, King."
"Oh, hey there Aster," said Eda, stirring the bacon around. "Danielle up?"
"Nya," said Danielle, entering the kitchen.
"Oh my," said Luz, seeing the cat ears and tail on Danielle. "¡Ay, que lindo!"
"Tail… she has a tail," said King, flexing his claws. "Must pet, hehehe."
"All right, settle down," said Eda, before seeing Danielle sniff a glass of smilk. "Danielle, you there?"
"Nya," said Danielle, lapping up the smilk while purring.
"Alright, look me in the eye," said Eda, tilting Danielle's head back so she could glimpse her in the eyes before Danielle licked her cheek. "Aah. No, not at the forefront."
"How do we get her back to normal?" asked Luz, seeing Danielle going back to lapping up the smilk.
"Knowing Danielle's magic, we'll probably have to wait for it to run its course," replied Eda, before hearing Danielle hiss in pain. "What the?"
"Nyaaaaa!" shouted Danielle, running around in circles trying to get King off her tail. "Nya nya nya-nya-nya!"
"King, stop," said Aster, staring at King petting Danielle's tail. "Danielle doesn't like it."
"I will get these pets in," said King, petting Danielle's tail aggressively before sparks were beginning to emit around Danielle. "Stay still."
"NYAAAAA!" screamed Danielle, electricity going all over her and King before slumping to the floor. "Nyaa-aa-aa."
"What happened?" asked Luz, trying to help Danielle up only for Danielle to lean on her.
"Nya…" said Danielle, weakly.
"Oh, I get it," said Aster, staring at the cat appendages more closely and making a magic diagram appear showing the others what happened. "Danielle actually crafted veins in the tails and ears and connected it to her actual nerves. So, she actually felt King's touch but since King was so rough and the tail being possibly sensitive it set off a reaction."
"Okay, I think I get it," said Eda, looking at the magic diagram. "King, no touchy."
"Oh man," said King, pouting before Eda placed the bacon on everyone's plate.
After eating breakfast and Danielle recovering from King's touch, Danielle ended up having the zoomies and was all over the place. Everyone just watched her till she got it out of her system. Unfortunately, it didn't last long as Danielle had found the front door open and zipped on out.
"Danielle, get back here," shouted Luz, going after Danielle.
"This is going to be a long day," said Eda, summoning her staff and going after Danielle. "Alright kitty, come here…"
"Nya," said Danielle, grabbing the staff by mouth and making Eda fall to the ground.
"Don't give me that purr," said Eda, hearing Danielle give off a playful purr.
"Finally caught up," said Luz, Aster floating close by.
"Hey, mimic this," said Aster, pretending to chase his tail.
"Nya," said Danielle, swishing her tail before chasing it. "Nya nya-nya-nya."
"Why is she saying nya when it should be meow?" asked King, climbing off Luz's shoulder.
"It's Japanese," replied Luz, "It's how the Japanese interpret how the cat sounds."
"You think she'd do Italian," said King, crossing his arms. "But no, she goes Japanese."
"Maybe we need to wear Danielle out," said Aster, before seeing Danielle run away. "Danielle, wait!"
"Where is she going?" asked Luz, running after Danielle. "Gosh, she's fast."
"Who knows?" said Eda, giving chase as well before hearing Lilith. "Oh no."
"Gotcha," said Lilith, sitting Danielle on her staff and flying off. "Huh, that was easier than I thought."
"Nyaa-aaaa," said Danielle, looking down, her fear of heights kicking in when reaching a certain height.
"Lilith!" shouted Eda, flying up with her staff with Luz, King and Aster. "Get her down now!"
"Really Edalyn," said Lilith, staring back at Eda. "And why would I?"
"Nyaaaaaaaaaa!" screamed Danielle, getting frantic.
"What… hey… stop… stay still," shouted Lilith, Danielle moving about so much that Lilith lost control and headed straight to the forest near Bonesborough. "Aaah! Omph!"
"Seen that coming," said Eda, going down and landing near Lilith, only to see no Danielle around. "Aw, nuts."
"What is wrong with her?" shouted Lilith, standing and fixing her hair.
"One, she has a fear of heights," said Eda, approaching Lilith. "And two, she's stuck in kitty mode."
"Kitty mode?" said Lilith, staring at Eda.
"Didn't you see the cat accessories?" asked Luz, staring at Lilith.
"Yes, I did. Wait, where's Corvoir?" asked Lilith, looking around for her palisman before seeing Danielle riding her staff. "Corvoir! What is she doing?"
"Nya nya, nya nya nya nya, nya nya nya nya," said Danielle, singing a song.
"What is she singing?" asked King, seeing Danielle head towards Bonesborough.
"Who knows?" replied Eda, mounting her staff once again in pursuit of Danielle.
"After that kitty," said Aster, standing on King's head and pointing in the direction Danielle went.
Riding Lilith's staff for quite some time, Danielle spots some coven scouts. Turns out, those coven scouts were abandoning their palismans and hurting them as well. Not liking what she was seeing, Danielle jumps off Lilith's staff and jumps on the nearest coven scout before white energy-based claws covered her nails and started clawing the coven scouts. Grabbing the injured palismans, Danielle hops onto Lilith's staff and away from the coven scouts. Far enough away, Danielle hops off and tells Corvoir to take the palismans to safety. Danielle walks down the streets before spotting Edric.
"Oh, hey Danielle," said Edric, seeing Danielle approach him. "How's it going?"
"Nya," said Danielle, sniffing his arm.
"Is this a human thing?" asked Edric, before Danielle grabbed a teardrop shaped bracelet off him.
A poof of smoke around Edric reveals his actual self. Edric's overall appearance becomes more unkempt, having pulled-back hair, the thin beginnings of a mustache, and visible leg hairs. Edric was wearing a yellow t-shirt with a campfire on it, gray sweatpants, and brown flat loafers. He also wears a set of black-rimmed glasses and a black headband.
"What the?" said Edric, seeing his concealment off and seeing Danielle take off. "Hey, come back! I need that!"
Running down the streets with Edric in hot pursuit, Danielle takes many twists and turns losing Edric in the progress. Staring around, Danielle sees a peculiar young griffin flying in the sky. Running after the young griffin, Danielle sees it land near a house before laying down. Viney comes out of the house to check on the young griffin.
"Alright Puddles, have a good flight?" asked Viney, petting Puddles before seeing Danielle approach. "Hi Danielle. Are you… okay?"
"Nya," said Danielle, hopping onto Puddles and taking a nap.
"Ooh," said Viney, seeing the situation. "Danielle's stuck in animal mode. Puddles, watch over her."
Giving a warble, Puddles takes a nap alongside Danielle. Napping for quite a bit, Danielle wakes up to Corvoir squawking. Seeing Corvoir, Danielle sees the palismans she rescued still with him. Corvoir goes to staff form and Danielle mounts him with the palismans she saved. Taking flight, Danielle heads to a certain area where she feels a pull. Eda, Luz, Aster, and King are tired from looking around for Danielle. Lilith as well. After a while, they see Danielle fly by with Corvoir and a few palismans. Groaning, they give chase. Danielle goes into a certain cave and flies toward a certain resident, the Bat Queen.
"What we have here?" said Bat Queen, staring at Danielle then the palismans on the staff. "Come, you are safe here."
"Nya," said Danielle, jumping off the staff and Corvoir flying about, squawking.
"Something not right," said Bat Queen, holding Danielle still and looking into her eyes. "Ah, I see. Slight awakening. No worries, you fine."
"Nyaa," said Danielle, looking downcast and curling around Bat Queen's claw. "Nya."
"There she is," said Eda, exhausted and running towards Danielle. "Oh boy, I'm feeling this."
"Corvoir!" said Lilith, pulling Corvoir into a hug. "Oh, that human didn't hurt you, did she?"
"Nya," said Danielle, looking at Lilith before getting sad. "Nya."
"Danielle, are you okay?" asked Aster, floating near Danielle before she pulls him into a hug. "Oh, okay."
"I think its time to get her back to the owl house," said Luz, seeing Danielle nuzzle Aster before falling asleep, some flowers nearby causing the effect.
Picking Danielle up and placing her on the staff, Eda, Luz, King and Aster head back to the owl house. Lilith follows them back to the owl house while Edric spots them at one point and follows. Once back at the owl house, Eda places Danielle on the couch while her and everyone else slumps down in the living room falling asleep themselves. Close to midafternoon, Danielle wakes up and is back to her normal self. Stretching, Danielle sees everyone asleep. Going to the kitchen, Danielle prepares dinner.
"Oh, what a day it's been," said Eda, waking up and stretching.
"Where's Danielle?" asked Edric, looking around for Danielle.
"Oh no," said Luz and King, groaning.
"That smell…" said Aster, sniffing and looking in the direction of the kitchen. "Danielle's cooking."
"It's not worth it," said Lilith, getting up and heading towards the front door. "I'll get her another time."
"Is everyone okay?" asked Danielle, walking into the living room.
"No," replied everyone, glaring at Danielle.
"Why-why are you guys looking at me like that?" asked Danielle, backing up in shock.
"Wait…" said Eda, staring at Danielle. "You don't know."
"No," replied Danielle, rubbing her arm. "I-I don't."
"Danielle," said Luz, looking at Danielle. "You were stuck in kitty mode."
"Kitty mode?" said Danielle, staring at everyone. "But how?"
"Don't know, don't care," replied King, sitting up. "But you had us running all over to find you."
"I'm sorry," said Danielle, staring at the floor. "I didn't mean to cause you guys such trouble."
"Danielle…" said Aster, seeing Danielle bite her lower lip. "Are you okay?"
"I will be," replied Danielle, before staring at Lilith and Edric before going into the kitchen and grabbing two tins and some packaged food before heading back in the living room and handing them to Edric and Lilith. "Here, for all the trouble I caused you."
"You don't need to do this," said Edric, staring at Danielle.
"Yes, I do," said Danielle, looking apologetic.
"Can I have my concealment stone back?" asked Edric, looking at Danielle.
"Concealment… oh," said Danielle, taking the bracelet out of her pocket. "You mean this?"
"Yes," replied Edric, grabbing his bracelet. "Thank you."
"Why wear it?" asked Danielle, staring at Edric. "You look fine as is."
"It's hard to explain," said Edric, putting the bracelet back on and looking like he would normally look like with the concealment stone.
"Bye Edalyn," said Lilith, leaving alongside Edric.
Waving goodbye, everyone in the owl house explained to Danielle want happened. Edric headed back to his family manor, never speaking to anyone in his house what happened. As for Lilith, she had headed back to the emperor's castle. Trudging to her room, she ends up dropping a wrapped food bar. A certain guard spots it and picks it up, not notifying Lilith. Instead, they eat the food bar.
"Oh, my goodness. This is delicious," said the guard, eating the food bar with gusto. "I need to find whoever made this. Maybe then uncle will like my food."
