Energies of the Tao Unleashed

A/N: For those that wanted Shinji to have more Legendary Dragon-Type Pokémon than just Rayquaza. Here goes.

Two weeks of rest in Icirrius City, another week of travel to Opelucid City to get to the Opelucid Gym, and Shinji looked rather collected in the hours that he spent moving around on foot after letting his mind recoup with his body. The journey to Opelucid City was initially quiet due to being just himself and his Eevee in the beginning, so there were no predictable shouts or arguments from anyone, but after he arrived at the destination, his friends and admirers from the other dimension showed up after he made a stop at the Pokémon Center to swap out some of his Pokémon for his upcoming match against Drayden.

"…So, which Pokémon are you going to be using?" Toji asked him as he had two Poké Balls ready to be transported back to Prof. Oak's lab in Kanto.

"This is where I have to break from my usual habit of relying on the Pokémon I catch within a region and get creative with them," he explained. "I'll be using my Gyarados, Regigigas and Rayquaza against Drayden's Dragon Pokémon."

"Um, isn't your Rayquaza a little…" Hikari tried to question him, but she couldn't get her words together. "Well, I mean, isn't it a bit…large?"

"Yes, but so are various other Dragon-Type Pokémon. Size isn't an issue all the time. Type advantage, disadvantage and level are."

"I take it you know which Dragon Pokémon your opponent will be using?" Misato asked him.

"Yeah, I researched his Pokémon three days ago. Most of his Pokémon are from this region, so he'll most likely use the ones he has trained since he began to specialize in Dragon-Types: Haxorus, Druddigon and Hydreigon."

"They all sound like strong Pokémon," went Asuka to him, and he took out his Pokédex and showed them what they looked like. "Gott im Himmel, they look stronger than the Dragon Pokémon elsewhere. They even look stronger than Palkia."

"Scary," said Maya to them, expressing her opinion on the three Pokémon, "nothing like the other Dragon-Type Pokémon you've caught over time, Shinji."

"If they're scary enough as pictures, I look forward to seeing how they measure up in person," he responded, refusing to let fear and intimidation keep him from facing the Gym Leader he came to challenge.

"Do your best," Rei uttered, encouraging him to move forward.

In the Village of Dragons, an old statue gave off an ominous aura as several villagers took notice of it and got bad vibes. Unlike the statues of Reshiram and Zekrom, this one was of a Dragonite, dated back hundreds of years, unkept due to an old story revolving around such a dragon that existed in the Pokémon world. According to an ancient myth, there was one Dragonite that had surpassed all other members of its species, belonging to a man that had the ability to unlock a Pokémon's real strength, but when the man passed away, the Dragonite disappeared from society, supposedly awaiting the day its master returned, appearing only sparingly throughout history. But nobody was sure, as the Dragonite hadn't been seen by anyone that chose to speak of it.

"Uuuurgh!" The Dragonite statue went, as if representing the rage of said Pokémon.

"Gah!" A boy gasped as he and his Axew ran away. "Dragonite! Dragonite!"

An elderly woman looked at the statue and suspected that the Dragonite that it represented was not just some old tale from thousands of years ago.

-x-

It had been too long since it had last surfaced from the undersea dominions that humans couldn't survive it. The very last time it had ever appeared before mortals was sometime in the dark of the night, miles away from a strange tower that released two rays of light…where it was attacked viciously by two humans and had to retreat before they could do more harm to it. But now, for almost an entire year, it was sensing the energies of a powerful human, vastly similar to one it had known a long time ago. And a few months ago, as it flew in the air, it came across a Rayquaza that had also been attracted to the powerful human's energies, but only one of them knew for sure whether or not this human was the same one from thousands of generations of ago.

"…Go, Haxorus!" Drayden commanded, releasing his first Pokémon against Shinji as their match began.

"Oh!" Shinji heard his friends gasp at the sight of the Axe Jaw Pokémon.

"Oh, yeah," he expressed as he took up Rei's Poké Ball. "This is about to get extreme!"

Flash! The ball opened up and released Shinji's Shiny Gyarados against Drayden's Haxorus.

"Rrrrraaurgh!" Rei roared, feeling like she had the advantage due to being larger and having been trained by a rising Pokémon Trainer that started out as a nobody and became a somebody.

"Let the match begin!" The referee announced.

"Giga Impact, Haxorus!" Drayden commanded.

"Hydro Pump, Rei!" Shinji countered, and both Pokémon collided in their attacks.

Haxorus glowed as it propelled itself towards Rei, who unleashed a high-pressure stream of water from her mouth at it. The two nearly made contact…until the Gyarados applied more effort into her Hydro Pump and sent the Haxorus flying backwards into a wall on the other side of the stadium with a crash!

"Hax!" It groaned, falling to the ground and then getting back up. "Haxorus!"

"I wasn't expecting a Gyarados to be this strong," Drayden confessed, "but this match has only just begun."

As Haxorus returned to the battlefield, the ground started shaking.

"Whoa!" Shinji gasped, feeling the exhilaration between their Pokémon. "If this is what happens to test your opponent's determination, I'm not backing down."

When the shaking stopped, Drayden responded, "That wasn't part of the structure of the gym here. That was a real tremor or earthquake."

"Oh…okay."

"Eevo!" His Eevee cheered him and Rei on.

It flew faster than it had ever flown before when it emerged from the water, passing over the lands in the region that was known as Johto. It knew where it needed to go, and it had to get there as fast as it could.

"Urgh," it growled, seeing someone that was beyond its past master…but similar in many ways.

-x-

Tell me, young man, Shinji heard a voice in his head as he had his Gyarados use her Ice Beam on Haxorus, defeating it, what is your ideal?

My…my ideal? He wondered, watching as Drayden recalled Haxorus and replaced it with Druddigon. My ideal is… I'm not really sure I have an ideal, uh, whoever you are. Ever since I became a Pokémon Trainer, I just traveled around, catching and training Pokémon, and enjoying the life that most people my age would only dream of doing. But…as I kept on traveling…and seeing how Pokémon affect people, good and bad, I never wanted to be among those that treat Pokémon like they're just expendable tools or unfeeling animals that don't care what happens to them when they no longer serve a purpose that you have for them. And…I don't want to see people from my world treat Pokémon in a similar way if they ever start appearing there when they deserve to be treated the way you'd want to be treated, with trust and love, that you matter.

Those…serve to be an ideal, young man, the voice told Shinji. He is coming to test your conviction. Do not hold back.

During the entire conversation, the noise around Shinji was muffled out; he could still hear others, but they were quieter than usual. When it ceased, the noise returned to normal.

"Graaaurgh!" Rei roared, and Shinji felt like she needed a break after taking on a second Giga Impact from Haxorus, followed by a Slash and Dragon Tail attack.

"Are you alright, Rei?" He asked her, and she turned to face him. "Can you keep going?"

She nodded that she could; she wasn't going to let this opponent she has never faced before face the next of her allies without getting one hit from her.

"Okay," Shinji agreed to let her continue, despite the fact that he felt she needed to recoup and allow the next Pokémon to take over.

-x-

It was now over the lands of the Hoenn Region, passing various people that were on a plane, being glimpsed by them as it flew by.

-x-

Tell me, young man, Shinji heard another voice in his head as his Gyarados was feeling fatigue set in as she had weakened Drayden's Druddigon, what is your truth?

My truth? He thought as he knew that he couldn't risk having her faint from exhaustion and recalled her to recoup. My truth is that I have come to admire Pokémon in the shorts years I've been here in this world. I admire others that care about Pokémon, seeing their affections shown in their actions, their voices, and I can respect their devotion. I can respect anyone that sees Pokémon as more than just unique animals capable of feats that no human can ever do, but anyone that chooses to treat them as expendable tools or weapons. I can't stand it when people that don't care about Pokémon treat them as though they don't have feelings. Whenever I see it or think about it too much, I…I lose control of myself and become someone that wants to hurt them to ensure that they can't hurt any more Pokémon. Sometimes, I imagine my father as being one of those people that will cross the line, and I want to ensure that someone like him can't possess any Pokémon if he can't treat them with kindness and respect. That…would be my nightmare brought to life…and one of my greatest regrets.

These serve as a great truth, the voice responded as Shinji released his Regigigas, now nicknamed Kyodaina to face Druddigon. He is coming to test your worthiness. Do not show fear. Show determination.

"A Regigigas?" Drayden gasped. "Incredible. I rarely ever see any Legendary Pokémon carried by a challenger. Very impressive."

"Thank you," Shinji responded. "Are you up for this, Kyodaina?"

"Gigas!" It responded, raising its arms in a display of strength.

"Okay, let's go!"

"Dragon Claw, Druddigon!"

"Ice Punch, Kyodaina!"

Both Pokémon charged towards each other and unleashed their attacks, resulting in a backlash that pushed them away from each other.

"Whoa!" Toji and Hikari gasped as they watched the two Pokémon get pushed back.

"Incredible," went Fuyutsuki as the smoke cleared from the battlefield. And Shinji only recently caught this Regigigas. This is beyond what happened in Sinnoh…and beyond everything else that has happened in the past few days.

-x-

"…Do they have any idea what it is?" Professor Oak asked Profs. Elm and Birch, who had informed him of the strange Pokémon that was flying in the air.

"Some of the people were only able to get a glimpse of the creature," went Prof. Elm, "but based on the similarities from some of their claims, it's a Dragon-Type Pokémon, but it's much larger than usual."

"How large?" Professor Birch questioned.

"Colossal, titanic, massive. It's just way too big to be a regular Dragon-Type Pokémon."

Professor Oak wondered how a Dragon Pokémon could have ever grown to such a size. Most Pokémon that grow to large sizes were usually limited to sizes manageable by the environment they resided in, but this one… There was no way that this Pokémon was of a recent phenomenon. It had to be from a different time, probably ancient.

"What is the Dragon Pokémon called?" He asked Profs. Elm and Birch.

-x-

"…Drudd… Drudd…" Drayden's Druddigon panted, having taken two Mega Punches from Kyodaina after a failed Ice Punch that was used.

"Gig… Gig…" Kyodaina panted, enduring two Dragon Tail attacks and a Giga Impact.

Drayden and Shinji were looking exactly as their current Pokémon were, exhausted and in need of a break.

"Impressive," Drayden praised Shinji and his Druddigon. "Some trainers would feel a sense of hopelessness against my Druddigon, but not you. Just like with Haxorus, you continue to press on to the end."

"Thank you," he responded, sounding as though he needed a drink. "Shall we continue?"

"Gladly. Druddigon, use Double Team."

Druddigon moved so fast around Kyodaina in such a way that it had made doubles of itself that looked like a small group of Druddigon moving at heightened speeds.

Kyodaina looked around itself and couldn't tell which one was the real Druddigon.

"Stay calm, Kyodaina," Shinji told it. "Use Confuse Ray on Druddigon!"

"Ga!" Kyodaina understood and unleashed its Confuse Ray, its body and braille pattern glowing maroon, releasing the energy to surround the entire chamber.

Druddigon was revealed to be on the far right of the field, rendered confused by the Confuse Ray so it couldn't continue its Double Team.

"Drudd… Druddigon!" Druddigon grumbled as it stumbled around, confused.

"Ah…that was strange," went Misato as she felt a little off balance by the residual effects of Confuse Ray; it was probably what happened whenever people were too close to feel the power given off by an energy-based attack.

"Yeah," added Ritsuko, shaking her head to clear her perception. "How can this Pokémon of Shinji's know such an ability…and how did Shinji know it could use such an ability?"

"Because Shinji researches his Pokémon," explained Kensuke to her. "He studies what his Pokémon are capable of and what they can be taught over time."

Wham! They saw Druddigon go and punch itself in its head, knocking itself to the ground.

"Incredible," said Asuka.

"Druddigon…is confused?" Rei questioned.

"That's right," answered Kensuke. "Until the confusion wears off, any Pokémon affected by an attack that triggers confusion will sometimes attack itself. Confusion causes the body to act out of sorts as the brain and nervous system tries to restore order."

Then…without warning, Drayden's Druddigon fell to the ground.

"Druddigon is unable to continue," the referee declared. "Regigigas wins!"

"Woo-hoo!" Hikari cheered. "Way to go, Shinji!"

"Eevo!" His Eevee cheered.

Shinji nodded his head in acceptance.

Drayden recalled his Druddigon and threw a new ball onto the field, releasing his third and final Pokémon, the infamous Hydreigon, which was as big as his Haxorus, but more intimidating than it did in the Pokédex.

"Oh!" Maya gasped, hiding behind Hyuga and Shigeru, who were just as intimidated by it.

"Begin!" The referee announced.

"Mega Punch, Kyodaina!" Shinji yelled.

"Fire Blast, Hydreigon!" Drayden commanded.

Both Pokémon unleashed their commanded attacks upon each other…and the ground shook.

"Whoa!" Everyone gasped.

Stomp! Something outside shook the ground.

"What is that?" Toji wondered.

Shinji's Eevee ran out to the outside of the gym…and then ran back inside towards Shinji.

"Eevo! Eevo!" She alerted him.

"Urrrrrgh!" Something was outside and causing a ruckus.

"Something is out there," Shinji accepted.

"Hydreigon!" Drayden's Hydreigon went.

"Gigas!" Kyodaina added.

"Suspend the match," Drayden ordered.

"Match suspended," the referee declared, and everyone ran outside.

"Oh…my…Gott," Asuka gasped.

"What is that?!" Hyuga expressed.

Out in the distance, likely near the neighboring Village of Dragons, was a giant, orange creature with small wings.

"Is that a…" Drayden went, but he was cut off by Shinji.

"It is," he said, taking out his Pokédex. "It's a Dragonite."

"Dragonite," his Pokédex uttered, "the Dragon Pokémon, and the evolved formed of Dragonair. It is believed to thrive in the deep oceans, and, because of its small wings in tandem with its large body, is capable of achieving speeds that break the sound barrier."

"This can't be right," Kensuke told them. "I mean, even at its greatest height, a fully-grown Dragonite rarely ever exceeds ten feet."

"Then this Dragonite is one of the giant Pokémon," Drayden suggested.

"Giant Pokémon?" Fuyutsuki questioned.

"Basically, regular Pokémon that have a growth spurt," Shinji revealed. "It's been known to happen from time to time. But this Dragonite… It's a titan."

"Urrrrgh!" Dragonite bellowed, and the ground shook again.

"Aaah!" They reacted as they grabbed onto the pillars beside them outside the gym, keeping from falling.

"Why would a Dragonite be here?" Maya asked.

"There's always a reason," Toji suspected.

"Urrrrrgh!" Dragonite bellowed again…and the sky darkened, giving off a stormy look.

Ring! Shinji felt a strange, pinging sound in his head and shook it.

"Are you alright, Shinji?" Misato asked.

"Yeah," he responded. "I don't think that Dragonite is here at random."

"There's an old story about a Dragonite going back over a thousand years," said Drayden. "A Dratini had been abandoned by its group, left to die until a vagabond found it and took it under his possession. As time went by, the Dratini gained strength and eventually evolved into a great Dragonite, bigger and stronger than all other Dragonite in existence, and after the man's passing, the Dragonite went into hiding from the rest of the world. Some believe that it wouldn't return unless the man that saved it from dying returned to life, something only it would be among a rare few that would know about."

"A legendary Pokémon Trainer?" Ritsuko questioned.

"Not a legendary trainer…but a primordial one, believed to be the very first of the people that would later be known as Pokémon Trainers…and one of the very few that could actually be called a Pokémon Master." Drayden clarified.

Shinji imagined a man cloaked in darkness, his identity completely forgotten, surrounded by various Pokémon, all strengthened over time to become the best they could be, and then the man was in the right palm of the colossal Dragonite, looking up at it. Then, he saw three other Dragon Pokémon that were unlike what Shinji had seen before. One looked like it was made of black stone, one looked like soft, white fire, and the third looked like an incomplete, malformed organism with ice properties.

The three that were once one? He thought, curious as he thought he was seeing the three dragons try to merge together…but were unable to, causing an imbalance between them.

Then, possibly sometime later, the unknown man was sitting against a tree, asleep. Or rather…he looked as though he were asleep…but wasn't asleep. But there was something about the tree, the nearby lake, the very layout of where the man was that had Shinji feeling…as though he'd seen the place before.

I have lived a grand life, he heard a voice say, withered and at ease, but there were still things left to be achieved. Maybe one day…I'll get to do all the things I couldn't do…and see everyone again. I believe in reincarnation, so I'll have to hope that I see them all again. Nirvana, he was left alone by his own kind, on the verge of death before I found him and nursed him back to full health. Then he evolved and became one of the greatest of his kind…but my death left him in agony, trying to move on, but waiting for someone like me to save him.

Shinji was now standing in front of the unidentified man, or rather his remains, seeing that he was deceased, and recognizing where they were a little.

This looks like where…Misato and I met over four years ago, he realized, guessing that part of his own conscious was replacing where the man had died with a place that he knew from his own past where he initially started his Pokémon journey.

He is searching for a strong person that is beyond others, he heard the man again, now seeing the colossal Dragonite standing before him. He is searching for someone that can restore the peace he lost with my death. Can you rise to that challenge? Can you restore his peace?

"Shinji?" He heard Rei say to him.

"Hmm?" He responded.

"You were unresponsive for a minute," she explained to him. "I asked if you knew how to stop a Dragonite of this magnitude?"

"Perhaps, but there's a difference between stopping it…and helping it."

"Helping it?" Drayden questioned him.

"There is a reason for its presence here."

Hydreigon appeared beside Drayden and he climbed onto its back.

"Do you suspect we'll have to fight it?" He asked Shinji.

"I hope not," he responded, and threw an Ultra Ball out to release the third Pokémon he had intended to use for their gym battle. "But let's see why it's here first before we have to do anything else."

Drayden was impressed by the fact that this kid had a Rayquaza in his possession.

"Incredible," he admitted as Shinji climbed onto it.

"The rest of you should wait here where it's safe," Shinji told the others. "This shouldn't take too long to resolve."

His Eevee climbed onto his left shoulder and Kyodaina was left with them in case they were in danger from a distance.

"Kensuke, does Shinji often get dragged into situations like this?" Asuka asked the otaku.

"Sometimes," he responded, "but only because he can't stand idle and risk others getting hurt."

"What can Shinji do against a larger-than-normal Dragonite?" Fuyutsuki questioned; he was asking due to the fact that it seemed that Shinji had never faced a Pokémon that was of this size, or any other creature of such a size without an Evangelion.

"As a Pokémon Trainer, Shinji will do what he knows he can do…and try his best doing so," said Hikari.

"Gigas!" Kyodaina grunted; it probably felt that Shinji was capable of dealing with such a potential threat, despite having only been caught by him less than a month ago.

-x-

It felt the presence of a powerful trainer nearby, but the presence was masked by the energy of other powerful forces. They were forces it hadn't faced in a very long time, not since the passing of its savior. And as it looked up into the darkened sky, it knew they were coming closer now that it was here in their domain.

"Ieeeeee!" It heard one of the other forces.

"Raaaaurgh!" The other force came soon after.

The last of the forces it had encountered so long ago had yet to arrive where it was.

"Grrraaurgh!" It looked over into the distance and saw a large, green serpent…and a young human atop its back.

-x-

"…My God," went Antonio as he and he research crew watched on the monitors as Shinji flew on his Rayquaza towards the giant Dragonite.

"This thing's bigger than Palkia!" One of the women declared.

"Whoever had possession of this great beast clearly gave it much care in their life," said Palkia.

"You believe that someone actually had ownership of this Dragon Pokémon?" Antonio asked it.

"Yes," it answered back. "This Dragonite must be from an ancient time, thousands of years older than most of the factions that make up modern society. Why it is there, however, must be because of Shinji."

"Why Shinji?" One of the men asked it.

"If certain Pokémon gravitate towards certain people, there is always a reason for why. It could be for a multitude of reasons: A belief, a sense of power, a challenge, anything."

Whatever this Pokémon's reason, I just hope it's not out to kill anyone, thought Antonio.

-x-

"…Okay, Hisui, stop right here," Shinji ordered his Rayquaza, hovering right in front of the colossal Dragonite. "Why are you here, Dragonite?!"

"Uuuurgh!" Dragonite responded, though Shinji had no idea what it was saying.

"Eevo!" Misato went, talking to the Dragonite. "Eevo! Eee!"

"Urrr! Urrgh! Grugh!" Dragonite responded.

"Eee," she then uttered to Shinji, but he still had very little understanding of what was going on.

I want to understand what's going on here, he thought. I want to help resolve this before it escalates any further.

Suddenly, the Dragonite's body started glowing bright blue, and its eyes glowed bright orange.

My savior, he heard a male voice in his head speak, the very man that saw my potential to become one of the strongest in existence…died before we could stop the Tao Trio and restore the balance between them. He saw the potential in others that most would see nothing of value in. He passed away hoping that someday, someone would be able to restore the balance between the Tao Trio. Reshiram, Zekrom and Kyurem, three halves of a forgotten whole, out of sync, out of balance, out of control… I have waited…for thousands of lifetimes…and only once have I ever felt the presence of a human of similar strength as the one who saved my life.

Are you…the Dragonite of colossal size? He questioned.

I am…and you are the only other human in existence whose strength is comparable to the man that saved me in the past.

Reshiram, Zekrom and Kyurem…they're the Tao Trio of Unova.

They are unbalanced. Three halves of the same whole.

"Ieeeeee!" They heard a shrieking.

"Raaaaurgh!" Another one was heard.

Reshiram and Zekrom, the Dragonite uttered. They are here. But Kyurem…has yet to show itself.

Shinji looked up at the dark sky and pondered the very might of what he understood to be two Legendary Pokémon from this region. Dealing with them might resolve the issue with this Dragonite, but in what way would the issue be resolved?

Did your savior give you a nickname, Dragonite? Shinji asked it.

He did, Dragonite answered. He gave me the name Nirvana, because when I finally achieved my strongest state of being, I achieved absolution. But when he died, a part of me went with him.

I am sorry for your loss, Nirvana.

Even after multiple lifetimes come and go, the loss of your savior rarely ever heals over the passing seasons.

Shinji could sympathize with the Dragonite; during the time he spent in Johto, he, Misato and Kensuke had gone to visit the Lake of Rage…and encountered the harshest of losses when it came to Pokémon. Some people affiliated with Team Rocket had tried to reestablish a project that had been implemented sometime ago, which caused detrimental effects to the Pokémon that lived there, particularly the Magikarp and Gyarados, resulting in several deaths. They helped catch the men responsible for the devastation, but his own Gyarados, Rei, howled in the lake for several hours; it was the first time he had ever seen and heard a Gyarados cry. There had been seventeen Gyarados and forty-six Magikarp that didn't survive…and Shinji had helped bury them to appease the angry spirits of those that fell at the hands of Team Rocket.

"Kensuke," he remembered telling the otaku, "if you filmed everything that happened while we're here, please…let the world know what transpired here so that they know of the suffering that occurred."

"Yeah," Kensuke agreed with him; after seeing the remains of Pokémon that lost their lives, the otaku had a greater respect for such creatures.

"Eee!" Misato gasped, and Shinji looked up at the sky, seeing two dragons that were exactly as he had seen in his vision.

"Reshiram and Zekrom," he uttered.

-x-

"…It doesn't look like that Dragonite is attacking," went Ritsuko to the others as they decided to head over to the Village of Dragons, despite Shinji's Regigigas trying to insist that they stay near the Opelucid Gym.

"What's so special about the Village of Dragons, Kensuke?" Toji asked, since Kensuke was the second most likely person after Shinji to know about certain locations after their unexpected, extended sojourn caused by Gendo.

"The Village of Dragons is a small town close by Opelucid City," the otaku explained, "with the majority of its Pokémon thriving there being of the Dragon-Type, hence its name designation. Most people that live there aim to be Dragon Pokémon experts and specialists and start out there before going on their own journeys across Unova and beyond."

"Dragon Pokémon experts and specialists?" Asuka uttered. "Like the Kanto and Johto Region Dragon-Type Elite Four member they call Lance?"

"Yeah."

"It sounds like it takes years to become such an expert or specialist," went Fuyutsuki.

"It depends on how committed you are to learning," Hikari expressed.

"Gigas!" Kyodaina grunted, giving up on trying to stop them from going to the village and just followed them; while Shinji had instructed Kyodaina to keep them safe, the Regigigas found it difficult due to these humans heading towards potential danger instead of moving away from it.

"Sorry, Kyodaina," Maya apologized. "Whatever the reason that Dragonite is here, we may find out from the people that live in the village."

"Gig."

"You're still doing what Shinji asked you to do, just… We're just exploiting a loophole in what he asked you," Hyuga confessed to the Pokémon.

Rei stopped from a moment and looked up at the colossal Dragonite, Shinji's Rayquaza and Drayden's Hydreigon, seeing two new creatures coming out from the dark clouds. One was black and the other was white.

"What are they?" She wondered aloud.

"I have no idea," said Asuka, looking out at them.

"They look like members of the Tao Trio," said the referee from the Opelucid Gym.

"The Dragon Pokémon associated with Unova?" Fuyutsuki asked.

"That's right. The black one is Zekrom and the white one is Reshiram. There's a third dragon known as Kyurem. Any that can claim all three…would be a force to be admired."

A force to be admired, huh? Misato thought as she heard the referee say that; her assumption was that if Shinji caught this…Tao Trio, he would just be more incredible than he already was due to having so many Legendary and Mythical Pokémon, either currently in his traveling party or at Prof. Oak's lab back in the Kanto Region. But he'd have to catch all three…and he hasn't caught one of them just yet.

"Welcome to the Village of Dragons, people," they were greeted by an elderly woman. "How may I help you today?"

"Uh, do you know why there's a giant Dragonite here?" Toji and Hikari asked the woman.

"An old tale coming to life."

"What do you mean, ma'am?" Kensuke questioned, and the lady pointed over towards a statue.

"That statue…will explain why," she stated cryptically.

-x-

He is here now, Shinji heard one of the voices from earlier in his gym match with Drayden. Show your conviction.

Show your worthiness, he heard the other voice.

Show your power! Both voices declared to him.

In the sky, they could see something new, but Shinji had seen it before already.

"Oh, jeez," he uttered.

"Eee," added Misato, her tail frizzing as she felt something intimidating come out of the dark clouds, giving off a fierce vibe.

It was Kyurem, the Boundary Pokémon, and the third member of the Tao Trio.

Both the trainer and Evolution Pokémon had the same feeling of dread as it appeared.

"Kyurem!" Drayden gasped.

"Your first time seeing all three together?!" Shinji yelled out to him.

"Yeah! I never expected to see all three, though! It must've been my lucky day to meet you!"

"No, it ain't always me! It's always lucky to see Pokémon!"

Kyurem looked at them…but then looked as though it were looking at Shinji personally.

"Rrrrraaurgh!" It roared at them.

Misato bared her tiny fangs at Kyurem in defense of her trainer, her tail puffing up in fury.

"We got this, Misato," Shinji calmed her. All I can do…is trust in them… All I can see is the trust in them… I trust my Pokémon. They show me the way…and I follow.

The large Dragonite took to air, floating alongside Shinji's Rayquaza and Drayden's Hydreigon.

You sound like him, Nirvana told Shinji. He, too, put his faith in his Pokémon.

Any clue as to facing all three members of the Tao Trio?

Just one: Defeat Kyurem. Defeat the member that is the absence of the other two members.

Just then, Kyurem flew towards Hisui and shot out a stream of ice energy from its mouth.

"Hisui, evade!" Shinji gasped, and his Rayquaza flew higher to avoid getting hit by the attack, which struck a building nearby, covering it in ice! "Whoa! It looks like this battle has officially started! Hyper Beam, Hisui!"

The Rayquaza responded by unleashing requested attack at Kyurem.

To be continued…

A/N: How many of you want to see Shinji fall in the sky? I don't mean fail in capturing the Tao Trio. I mean just falling in the sky. I'll put up a poll for the idea, but in the end, you have to admit that Shinji has potential to become the master of the Tao Trio. Also, the idea of the giant Dragonite having a nickname like Nirvana gives it more meaning and how it relates to the previous trainer it lived under before he passed away. And since Shinji now knows that this Dragonite has an identity because of the nickname, when he catches it, he won't change the nickname, leaving it alone.
