Chapter 15

Heart Of A Titan And The Problem

The Bay

In the bay, Callum was reading the letter, with Bait on his lap, and Reuniclus moved Allen to Callum's side. "Dear Callum… Over the years there have been moments when I let there be a distance between us. Because I'm your stepfather, I was trying to give you the space I thought you needed to love your real father, even though he passed away. Now, I wonder if I should have held you closer. I wonder if showing you how much I loved you would have been okay, and would have not directed your relationship with him." Callum said, reading the letter.

"That's why he gave me my sketch book." Callum said, making Allen look at Callum's sketch book. "Callum, I know I'm not your birth father. But in my eyes and in my heart, you are my son. I see myself in you. I'm proud of you. And I love you unconditionally." Callum said, reading the letter.

This made Callum cry a little, and Allen and Reuniclus hugged him. "Oh, this isn't easy." Callum said to Allen. "Letting go of the people we love never is." Allen said to Callum. Then Bait groaned. "Wait. you can't read, can't you?" Callum asked Bait. Bait snorted at him. "Might as well get back to reading. For Bait of course." Allen asid to Callum.

"As I write this, the sun is setting while the Moonshadow assassins prepare to end my life. A few months ago, I took my revenge on Xadia. Tonight, it is their turn. I may not have long. So I'm forced to ask myself… what can I pass on to my sons in the short time I have left? Besides a pair of twins that will hopely lead you two down a different path. In this letter, I will share with you a lie, a wish, and a secret." Callum said reading the letter.

Summit Of The Pentarchy

At the summit of the Pentarchy, Viren was waiting for Ahling to come back. "Where is he?" Viren asked, as Ahling finally walked in. "Sorry, sorry. I'm not used to hearing so much story all at once. I just needed a quick trip to the little king's room." Ahling said to everyone, stammering and chuckling a little, and taking his set. "May I continue?" Viren asked Ahling.

"I am ready to hear more, Lord Viren. Though I know how this story ends, it warms my heart to hear about my parents from someone who was there." Aanya said to Viren. "Yes. You must know as well as anyone that while this appears to be a story of epic battles and legendary creatures, it is ultimately a story of sacrifice and love." Viren said to Aanya.

The Past

In the past, the battle with the Magma Titan started with them charging at it. But the Magma Titan was tossing them around like rag dolls, and crushing a few of them. This surprised them. Amaya ordered the knights to throw spears. But the spear only bounced off it's hard skin.

Then some of the knights then fired a spear with a chain from the ballista at the Magma Titan, but the titan slapped it away. "Aim for the cracks between the rocky plates! We can chain it down!" Neha said to the knights. The knights followed her orders and fired the spears. They were able to cross the chains with one going into it's right arm and the other into it's left leg. But this just made it mad.

It pulled the spear in it's leg, and broke the chain of the one it's arm with heat and force. The Magma Titan then used the chain to whip Amaya in the face, as Amaya tried to get out of range of it's attack, on horseback. The chain whip knocked Amaya off her force and made her roll, stopping when she hit a rock. This made Harrow gasp.

"Take aim at the center. Fire right where we cracked into it." Harrow said to Annika and Neha. the two queens nodded and aimed it. The Magma Titan noticed this and walked towards them. And when it got close, Annika fired the spear. And it hit it in it's weak spot, making it scream in pain. "Now what?" Neha asked Harrow. "Push." Harrow said to Neha, as he, Neha, and Annika started to puch. "Over the edge." Harrow said to everyone.

After they pushed the ballista over the edge, it took a piece of the Magma Titan with it, almost hitting Harrow, Neha, and Annika. This also made it roar at them. But then Amya got up, and that got ready for a fight. The Magma Titans noticed this and turned to her. That's when Sarai came charging up from behind Amaya. Amaya noticed this and knew what it meant. Amaya used her shield as a step, and tossed Sarai into the air.

And while in the air, Sarai threw her spear into the opening on the Magma Titian chest, delivering the finishing blow. But it took a few seconds for it to take effect. In its last moments, it tried to crush Sarai, who landed in front of him, and Sarai tired and fell to the ground. But then it started to fall apart and Sarai took this chance to escape from it.

When it was all said and done, what was left of the Magma Titan was a pile of rock, with a little magma flowing, a giant crystal, and Sarai's spear. Everyone looked at it with amazement, as the magma cooled down. Once it was cold enough, Viren and Harrow climbed up the crystal. "The legend was true. The heart of the titan radiates with life and magic." Viren said, holding a hand out to the crystal.

"So, do you think you can-" Harrow asked Viren, but Viren interrupted him. "Yes. We can save them all." Viren said to Harrow, knowing what he was going to ask. This made everyone cheer. "Our people, they'll be fed." Neha said to Annika, as they hugged and kissed each other.

Sarai climbed up the remains of the Magma Titan to get her spear, as Harrow and Viren got off it. "Amayam you did it!" Sarai said to Amaya, sign laughing, as she pulled out her spear and looked at it. "Sister?" Saria asked Amaya, sign laughing, as she noticed her sister walking weakly. "Amaya!" Sarai said, running to Amaya, dropping her spear, and catching Amaya, before Amaya fell to the ground.

Sarai noticed the scar on Amaya's check and took off Amaya's helmet. Sarai and Amaya then talked to each other using sign language, as the soldier got ready to move the heart. "Time is short. There's barely an hour until sunrise. We can't risk the wrath of the Dragon King. we must take the heart and hurry back to the Frozen Throne." Viren said to Harrow. "Yes, of course. We'll move as fast we can." Harrow said to Viren, as they looked at the wounded.

This made Viren sighed. "The wounded must be left behind. We can't afford to slow down." Viren said to Harrow. Then Sarai and Amaya walked to them, with Amaya telling Viren something in sign language, and Sarai helping Amaya stand. "You don't need to whisper, Viren. I'm deaf. It'll be okay. Once I rest a bit, I can make it back myself." Sarai said to Viren, translating for Amaya.

"We won't leave you here alone." Harrow said to Amaya. "I'll stay with Amaya. We'll make it home together. Everyone else should take the heart back." Sarai said to harrow. "They agree. Time is of the essence." Viren said to Harrow. "No." Harrow said to Viren. "But Harrow, they just said-" Viren said to Harrow, but Harrow interrupted him. "We leave no one behind. We do not leave our wounded." Harrow said to Viren.

"You wouldn't do this if it… if it wasn't your wife's sister." Viren said to Harrow, Harrow looked at Viren with a serious look. "I've made my decision and it is final." Harrow said to Viren, making Viren walk away, trying to respect his king's choice.

The Bay

In the bay, Callum was still reading the letter. "When I am gone, your brother Ezran will become king, and you will be his partner, his defender, and his closest adviser, ahead of Allen and Drake. Soon you will both face a lie. The great lie of history. Advisers and scholars will tell you that history is a narrative of strength. They will recount stories of the rise and fall of nations and empires. They will be stories of armies, battles and decisive victories. But this isn't true strength. It's merely power. I now believe true strength is found in vulnerability… In forgiveness, in love." Callum said, reading.

"He's right. It's easy to hate, but it takes true strength to walk away from those negative feelings." Allen said to Callum. "There is a beautiful upside-down truth, which is that these moments of purest strength appear as weakness to those who don't know better. For a long time, I didn't know better. I asked you and your brother to reject history as a narrative of strength, and instead have faith that it can be a narrative of love." Callum read.

Up on the deck, Rayla was trying to keep whatever food that was still left in her down, on the upper deck with Captain Villads, Berto nearby, and Gligar confronting her. "So, Rayla… that's an unusual name, isn't it? So is Kali, don't you think?" Captain Villads asked Rayla, chuckling. "Oh! Yeah, uh, our human parents had an unusual taste in names… Villads with a silent D." Rayla said to Captain Villads. "Hmm, 'tis fair." Captain Villads said to Rayla, chucking a little.

"So, what do you do for a living?" Captain Villads asked Rayla. "I'm an assassin." Rayla said, playing with one of her blades. But Captain Villads thought this was a joke, and laughed. But then he realized Rayla wasn't joking. "Oh! You're not joking." Captain Villads said to Rayla.

"Well, I'm supposed to be an assassin, but I've never actually, you know, killed anyone." Rayla said to Captain Villads. "Oh, wel, maybe someday. Never give up on your dreams." Captain Villads said to Rayla. "Thanks for the encouragement. But the truth is, I'm not sure being an assassin in my dream after all." Rayla said to Captain Villads, looking at the sea. "Oh! So, then… What is your dream?" Captain Villads asked Rayla. "Ugh, I wish I knew." Rayla said to Captain Villads.

The Past

In the past, they all moved as fast as they could, walking past what remains of fools that thought they could stand against the Dragon King, dragging the heart on logs, and the other knights carrying the wounded. "With the heavy heart of the titan, and the additional burden of carrying the wounded, our pace back to the Frozen Throne was slower than I'd wished." Viren said, as his past self looked to see the sun rising.

"Dawn came. As the sun rose on the horizon, I could feel its heat on my neck, like a hot doom I knew was coming for us." Viren said, as his past self started to walk again, and looked over his shoulder.

"But we push forward, hoping to escape the inevitable consequences of our trespass." Viren said, as they almost reached the Frozen Throne. "There's the entrance. We've almost made it!" Harrow said to everyone. "Faster! All our strength now!" Sarai said to everyone, as they used what energy they had left to run.

"Suddenly, the heat disappeared. There was a chill as a shadow covered the sun." Viren said, as everyone suddenly stopped, and they all noticed a storm covering a storm. But instead of relief, I felt a cold dread." Viren said, as his past self noticed thundering flashing, as a silhouette of a dragon flew at them. "Thunder." Harrow said, as the horses ran away in fear.

"The storm had come." Viren said, as they all, noticed a dragon that looked like a grant and meaner version of Zym coming at them.

The Bay

In the bay, Ezran and Zym were practicing feeling the flow of air in Zym's wings, while they ran around the ship. With Kali, Drake, Rockruff, Bisharp, and Fomantis, on the deck behind them watching the two princes. And Rayla sitting on the stairs, is still trying to hold down her stomach, and Gligar is watching her. "I'm a crazy old man, but let me share some wisdom, will ya?" Captain Villads asked Rayla. Rayla signed.

"Why not? I love wisdom. Bring it." Rayla said to Captain Villads. "Life is like a river." Captain Villads said to Rayla. "Ugh! Oh, great. That's exactly what I was afraid of." Rayla said to Captain Villads, as she noticed Ezran and Zym playing. "You can't see too far ahead. I can't see at all, as I might have mentioned before." Captain Villads said Rayla, as he took a seat above her on the stairs.

"You mentioned!" Berto said to Captain Villads. "You don't know where the river of life will bend and turn. You don't know where it will go at all." Captain Villads said to Rayla. "How is that supposed to be helpful?" Rayla asked Captain Villads. "Don't try to control where the river goes. There's one thing you can know and control, yourself. Look at yourself. Who are you, Rayla? What do you stand for? Once you know that, then wherever the river takes you, you'll be right where you were always meant to be." Captain Villads said to Rayla.

This made Rayla smile. "Villads, that's amazing. When you started talking, I was sure you were going to spout some complete nonsense, but what you said, it's beautiful." Rayla said to Captain Villads. But then she noticed Captain Villads was sleeping. "I'll tell him later." Berto said to Rayla, as Rayla frowned, and made Gligar laugh.

The Past

In the past, Thunder, Zym's dad, was getting close. "We'll never make it." Neha said to everyone. "We have to hold off the dragon as long as possible so those carrying the heart can make it back." Harrow said to everyone. "Stop! This is our day to sacrifice." Annika said to Harrow. "You get the titan's heart to safety. Save all our people." Neha said to Harrow.

Annika then handed Harrow something small. Neha and Annika then got onto some horses. "Come on." Annika said, as they rood off. Harrow looked at his hand to see a ring in his hand. Harrow closed his hands, and everyone with him ran to the Frozen Throne, while Annika and Neha charged at Thunder.

This got his attention, and Thunder shot thunder bolts at them. Viren stopped and looked at Annika nd Neha running around, and while he tried to ignore him, he couldn't run. "I can help!" Viren said, as he joined Annika and Neha. When Viren joined the battle, he pulled out the Primal Stone, Callum smashed. Thunder noticed this and charged at Viren.

Viren then drew a more detailed rune of Callum's Aspiro rune with his staff. "Aspiro frigis!" Viren said, as he fired a beam of ice from his staff. The beam turned the land to ice, and trapped Thunder's head. Annika and Neha noticed a hole in the ice leading to one of Thunder's eyes. "For Aanya!" Neha said, as the two of them charged at Thunder.

Thunder refused to lose, and broke free of the ice, in a rage. This surprised everyone. Neha and Annika tried to fall back, but Thunder hit them with his tail, finishing them.

Back with the others, they made it inside the Frozen Throne. "They've bought us enough time. We've made it!" Harrow said to everyone. But Sarai realsies something. "What is it?" Harrow asked Sarai. "Viren… Without him to perform the spell, the heart is worthless, and this was all for nothing." Sarai said to Harrow. "Sarai, what are you saying?" Harrow asked Sarai.

Sarai then mounted onto her horse. "I'll see you on the other side." Sarai said to Harrow. Harrow nodded and hoped she ment of the Throne and not in the land of the dead.

The Bay

In the bay, Callum was still reading the letter. "The last time I saw your mother, she said, "I will see you on the other side." I don't know what lies on the other side. But I know I will be watching over you and your brother always." Callum said, with a smile forming on his face. "See I told you he'll always be with you." Allen said to Callum, lightly punching Callum's shoulder.

The Past

In the past, Viren was alone in the fight against Thunder. But then Sarai came riding up, with a hand stretched out. Viren took that hand, and Sarai pulled Viren onto her horse. "Thank you." Viren said to Sarai. "Don't thank me yet." Sarai said to Viren, as they hightailed it out of there, with Thunder right on their tail.

Thunder would not let them get away, and fired thunderbolts at them. And as Sarai and Viren got closer to the Frozen Throne, it made Thunder madder. So Thunder uses most of his energy in one final thunder blast. And this thunder blast hit Sarai, Viren, and their horse. This caused an explosion that sent the three of them flying into the Frozen Throne.

And while Thunder dare not cross into the Frozen Throne, he still circled outside it. Viren survived that attack and started to cough, that's when he noticed Sarai lying nearby. "Come on. We have to run." Viren said to Sarai, as he got up and moved to Sarai.

But Sarai didn't move. Viren then kneeled down and turned her to face him. She was gasping weakly, and breathed her last breath. "I was there when Queen Sarai took her last breath." Viren said, as Sarai, died.

"We returned home. Xadia had stolen precious loved ones from us. Their loss changed our lives forever…" Viren said, as Harrow, his past self, and the knights, walked through the streets of Duren, with their heads low, and the people of Duren standing on the sides of the path they took through the streets.

"But their sacrifice changed the world. The heart of the titan yielded its incredible life force." Viren said, as his past self, did a Dark Spell that turned winter into spring. "The spell word, it created fertility and abundance. A hundred thousand lives were saved. Families celebrated their life and health. They were safe, alvie, together." Viren said, as the lands became fields of green.

"The people of both of our kingdoms know who they owed their lives to. These incredible heroes. Three queens, three mothers… became legends." Viren said, as the people of the kingdoms looked at statues of the queens that died. At Sarai's statue, Abigail, with sad eyes, and tears like rivers, placed a basket at the base of her statue.

In the castle, Harrow was looking at his crown, while standing next to a fire. Viren watched this. "It should have been me." Harrow said to Viren. "I'm so sorry." Viren asid to Harrow. Then a female guard walked into the room. "Your Highness. He's waiting for you now." The guard said to Harrow.

Harrow sighed. "Okay." Harrow said, whipping his tears and putting on a strong face. Harrow then walked to the throne room, where guards were standing. "Are you ready?" A male guard asked Harrow. "No, but you may open the doors." Harrow said to the guard. The guards then open the doors to the throne room, where Callum waited. Harrow walked to Callum and kneeled down to hug Callum.

"Callum, I want to talk to you about life. And growing up. And how sometimes there are changes you don't expect." Harrow said to Callum, as the guards closed the doors to the throne room.

The Bay

In the bay, Callum was still reading the letter. "I've tried to be selfless as a king, but as a father, I have a selfish wish. And that is for you and Ezran to be… free. Reject the chains of history. Do not let the past define your future, as I did. Free yourself from the past. Learn from it, understand it, then let it go. Create a brighter future from your own hearts and imagination." Callum said, as he put the letter down.

Summit Of The Pentarchy

At the summit of the Pentarchy, Aanya was holding her flower pendet tight, while Rowlet nuzzled her cheek. "I'm sorry you were never able to know them. Your mothers." Viren said to Aanya. "Thank you for sharing this story, Lord Viren. I feel lucky to have heard so many beautiful stories. This is how I've gotten to know them." Aanya said to Viren.

"They were very brave, and very strong, and wise. I know it is not my place to say, but I am sure they would have been very proud of you." Viren said to Aanya. Aanya then opened the flower, riesling the ring Annika ns Neha gave to Harrow. Aanya cried a little. "It may seem strange to miss someone I've never known, but I miss them so much." Aanya said.

"Queen Aanya, knowing what you know now, can you see why I believe that if your mothers were here today, they would choose to join us and fight by our side?" Viren said to Aanya. "I think you are right. Perhaps they would." Aanya said to Viren, looking at the ring, and Viren smiled at this.

But Aanya looked at Rowlet and her face changed from sadness to pride. "But I… will not." Aanya said to Viren. "What?" Viren asked Aanya, as everyone else was surprised to hear that from her. "We owe Katolis a great debt, there's no doubt. We received so much kindness and courage and sacrifice. But I cannot repay a debt of a hundred thousand whose lives were saved by sending a million men and women to die in violence." Aanya said to Viren, as she got up from her throne and walked away from Viren.

"Did you not listen? Did you not…" Viren asked Aanya, but Aanya interrupted him. "I did listen. Now let me tell you a story. Before the last Summit Of The Pentarchy. Pokemon had come into the land of Duren and started to tear apert the lands you casted your spell on. And while they did not attack my people or fight back against us. They still destroyed our farm fields. I message King Harrow for help." Aanya said to Viren, standing tall. "Then you understand that we are allies." Viren said to Aanya.

"Let me finish. Harrow borough Allen and Drake with him to our aid. They stopped us from hurting the Pokemon and taught us that they were just trying to help our lands, trying to remove the darkness you put in it. With the darkness gone, the very Pokemon that tore up our lands started to fix them. Then Allen and Drake started to work with the Pokemon. This surprised us, and after a bit all of the people of Duren staried to join the twins and the Pokemon in fixing our lands. We had fun, working together, and when we planted all the seeds of the plants they destroyed. The Pokemon used what the twins called Grassy Terrain. And the seeds started to grow instalay, and everything the Pokemon did was undone." Aanya said to Viren.

"Your point?" Viren asked Aanya. "My point is, seeing this made me wonder what life would be like if Pokemon were a part of our world 9 years ago. But Allen and Drake said that wondering what could have been, won't change anything. So focus on what you have, and look to the future, and do what you think is right. And what I think is right is not sending my troops off to die." Aanya said to Viren. Viren got frustrated at this.

"King Ahling!" Viren said to Ahling, walking to him. "Help me talk some sense into her." Viren said to Ahling. "Viren, we sympathize with the plight of Katolis, but I'm afraid we can no longer-" Ahling said to Viren, but Viren yelled at him. "Coward!" Viren said to Ahling. "Traitors. Each of you standing here today, you betray humanity!" Viren said to everyone.

"Lord Viren, I'm sorry." Ahling said to Viren, placing a hand on his shoulder. But Viren forced Ahling off him. "Save your empty apology. There is danger coming. They'll be on your side of the border soon. You'll all pay the price for ignoring my warnings." Viren said to everyone, before leaving in a furry.

The Bay

In the bay, Callum was almost done reading the letter. "And, finally, you must be wondering about the secret I promised to share. Well, good news. The secret is hidden in the Banther Lodge, right where you are right now. How's that for planning?" Callum read. "Not well since we are as far away from that place as possible." Allen said to the letter. "Yeah, good thing we're at the Banther Lodge, huh, guys?" Callum asked everyone.

"Right now, go upstairs to the game room. There, I have hidden an unusual cube with rune symbols on each side." Callum read, realizing what Harrow ment, and pulled out the cube. Allen then read the rest of the letter.

"This cube is an ancient relic that has been passed down through the ages. It belonged to an elven wizard in Xadia, the Archmage Aaravos, A master of all six primal sources. It is hidden in a box of keys because it is known as the "Key of Aaravos," and legends say it unlocks something of great power in Xadia. Perhaps it will be you, Callum, who discovers the key's secrets." Allen read. "And Drake wanted to toss that into the river." Allen said to Callum, as Callum took back the letter.

"And one last extra-super-secret bonus secret. Did you know that Bait, our most sour friend, secretly loves belly rubs?" Callum read, before looking at Bait, and giving him a belly rub, and Bait like this. "Aww! Who's a tubby lumpa grump?" Callum asked Bait, as he gave Bait tummy rubs. "Well, if what Harrow said about this Aaravos mastering all six primal sources is true. Then maybe your idea of connecting to a Primal source isn't as impossible as it seems. After all, if he could use all six, you learning how to connect to one is possible." Allen said to Callum.

Back on the upper deck, Rayla and Gligar were relaxing, when Captain Villads talked to them. "You probably thought I was just a crazy old sea captain, but I've got some good wisdom." Captain Villads said to Rayla. "I'll admit it. You do have some good wisdom." Rayla said to Captain Villads. "You want to know the other secret of life? waterproof socks! It's a metaphor. Think about it." Captain Villads said to Rayla, showing off his worn out shoes "You just showed me the socks. That's not what a metaphor is." Rayla said to Captain Villads.

Then Callum carrying Bait, and Reuniclus came out of the lower deck. Kali, Rayla, Gligar, Fomantis, and Yanma noticed that. "Hey Callum, how's Allen?" Kali asked Callum. "Why don't you ask me?" Allen said, as he came from the lower deck. "Still a little stiff, but I'm back to normal." Allen said to Kali. "Well that's good. I thought we were going to have to drag you the rest of the way." Kali said to Allen, with a playful tune in her voice, as Callum walked to the front of the deck.

There, Drake and Bisharp were watching a sleeping Ezran, Rockruff, and Zym. But Callum walking to them, woke them up. Callum put Bait down and hugged Ezran. "What's that for?" Ezran asked Callum. "You're my brother, and you mean everything to me." Callum said to Ezran. "Is this a trick?" Ezran asked Callum.

"No. I just love you." Callum said to Ezran. "Well, I love you, too." Ezran said to Callum. Then Bait jumped into Callum's hands, and Zym into Ezran's hands. "So are we there yet? Are we close?" Ezran asked. "We are close. I smell land!" Captain Villads said, leaving Berto at the helm, and making Berto drive the ship. "There!" Drake said to everyone, pointing to the land coming into view.

Everyone, but Berto, moved to the front of the ship. Then a shadow covered them for a second. "Hey, what was that? A sadow?" Rayla asked everyone, as all of them, but Captain Villads, looked up. "Eh, you're asking the wrong pirate." Captain Villads said to Rayla. "It was a shadow. Look!" Allen said to everyone pointing to the sky, where a shadow of something was in the clouds. "There's something up there." Rayla said to everyone. "Why do I have a funny feeling that things are about to get worse." Drake said to everyone.
