Terra stood off to the side watching as Senna and Ven sat on the grass looking for constellations. He couldn't help but smile as she told Ven the stories behind each constellation they found, the way her face lit up with each story she told. This has been the norm for the past few days, she has since all but taken over his magic training once Master Eraqus saw he was improving much more under her than he was with either him or Aqua. Terra was proud that he got more than the fundamental basics down, and once she was satisfied, she started to teach him how to meld them together with his physical attacks. He was surprised by the complexity of it all, they ended up melding a Blizzard spell together with his Quick Blitz attack, to make Blizzard Edge. While it was a physical attack with his keyblade, it was cloaked in Ice, and when he made a jumping attack to the ground ice would then burst from the ground to deal additional damage.
"The longer you stare, the creepier it gets"
Terra turned around and saw Aqua smirking at him as she walked over to him.
"I wasn't staring" Terra stated, though he bit the inside of his cheek in embarrassment.
Aqua obviously didn't believe him "So, you going to explain what the two of you were doing the other day you know with your shirt off."
"I told you before, she was just healing some sore muscles from mine and your previous training. That's all." Terra insisted, not understanding why Aqua was trying to make it into something it was not.
"She's certainly made an impact on you, just a couple of days of training in magic with her, and look at the improvement you've made. Even Master was surprised."
Terra huffed a bit "Well I suppose she's been more patient with me, or maybe it's the way she teaches."
"Ouch," Aqua said putting a hand over her heart, but by the tone, she wasn't too upset by the comment.
Terra chuckled "I never did ask how your magic lesson with Senna went."
"Great, I can see why summoners were so revered for their magic. She went over melding commands as well as command styles, she even encouraged us to make up some of our own. I'm working on a Diamond Dust command, which activates when I use more of my Blizzard-related magic."
"Yeah, she also recommends that I do the same. I have some ideas, but nothing solid yet. She always tells me to focus on the magic that speaks more to be personally."
Aqua couldn't help but take a wisecrack "Let me guess stuff earth-related since you're so hard-headed."
"Hey, it will be like me saying water is your specialty because of your hair and name"
"Touche, but you didn't exactly disagree with me either."
Terra just shakes his head, and notices that Ven is walking up to them.
"Hey, how was the star gazing," Aqua asks.
Ven just smiled with his goofy smile as he put his hands behind his head "Great, Senna and I found multiple constellations. Some of them can even be used as a way to predict one's personality based on one's birth, I think she said they are called Zodiac signs. We even tried to guess what each other's signs were."
"Oh, really what did you guys come up with," Terra asked intrigued.
"Well, you two I think we pinned down pretty well. Terra, we think he's a Taurus, it's represented by creatures called a bull due to their stubborn natures and tempers."
Aqua couldn't help but chuckle, as Terra sighed and mumbled "Of course."
"That's not all, personality-wise They have perseverance and you can always count on them. I think that suits you, and Senna agreed as well."
Ven then turns to Aqua "We think you are a Capricorn; it's represented by a sea goat."
"A what" Aqua said taken aback, while it was Terra's turn to laugh at the ridiculous representation of these zodiac signs.
"Yeah, Capricorns are supposedly hardworking, disciplined, and responsible."
"Well, that does certainly sound like Aqua," Terra said,
Aqua just smiled "What about you, what did you and Senna come up with."
"Well, she said I was most definitely a Libra, but I didn't really pay too much attention to what the personality traits were, I was too busy trying to figure everyone else out," Ven said with an embarrassed laugh.
Both Terra and Aqua knew exactly what the personality traits it must have been because Ven to them one of the friendliest people they had ever met, just being in his presence was enough to make someone feel at ease.
Before either of them could comment Ven went on "Senna was a no-brainer, she's totally a Pisces. They are represented by two fish tied by a rope and are the most sensitive of the zodiac signs, but are compassionate, gentle, and wise."
Terra turned his head over to see Senna sketching something in her book as he constantly looked up at the stars. If these zodiac signs were indeed accurate, then he certainly believed the case was true for Senna. She was by far the most patient out of all of them, especially having to deal with him in their magic training and her compassion in dealing with people she knows are injured or perceives to be injured. She says she's not strong, but Terra disagrees it's just not the way that she thinks.
"Yeah, definitely a no-brainer."
Ven then let out a yawn "I'm heading inside, I'm pretty beat. I think Senna said she was going to stay out a bit longer and sketch some of the constellations."
"Well then, we better head on inside and get ready for the night," Aqua said as she put her hand on Ven's shoulder and started leading him back to the castle.
Terra started following, but then stopped and looked back over at Senna. He didn't know where the feeling of unease was coming from, but he had this feeling if he left her alone then something bad was going to happen. Which he knew was totally unfounded, The Land of Departure was as safe as can be, it had so many protections in place.
"What's wrong Terra," Aqua asks when she notices he stopped.
Terra just shakes his head "Nothing let's just head inside."
Senna wasn't sure how long after Ven left, she stayed outside sketching and labeling the constellations they were able to find. She decided it was time to start heading in when she let out a long-drawn-out yawn, She never stayed out as late as she did the past few nights though it was well worth it for her even with the early wake up to watch the sunset. She found that she could afford to let herself take a nap later in the day if needed. Getting off the ground, she quickly brushed herself off and began the walk back towards the castle.
She couldn't help but go back to that dream she had, though she had dismissed it as her guilt manifesting itself in her dreams, it was more so concerned about her familiars. Besides Nugget, she hasn't been able to contact any of them since she's been here, and she has major concerns about traveling to their world due to the vulnerability it leaves her in due to the technique required to take her there. It wasn't that she was unwilling to ask the others to watch over her when she did, but she hesitated because of how ingrained her teachers including her father put into her about taking that particular technique to her grave from outsiders, but she greatly missed them and wanted to talk to them. She missed the mischievousness of the little fairies, Yuna, Rikku, and Payne, she missed how despite his gruff exterior Red's no-nonsense attitude who demanded his ears scratched every time Senna was around. She missed Seraph's calming presence and knew exactly what to say when she was upset, and also Bahamut's silent nature but his actions always showed how much he cared.
Senna was pulled out of her thoughts when she saw Terra at the top of the hill, swinging his sword around.
"What are you still doing up, I thought you went back inside with the others?"
Terra stopped what he was doing and looked her way "I couldn't sleep, so I came out to try and practice a new command style like you said I should do."
"What physical or magic" Senna asked raising her eyebrow curious if he was going to take her suggestion on working on a new magical command style.
"Don't worry I'm working on a magical one like you said, but I'm also working on a physical one as well. Should be able to show you in another day or two." He said with confidence.
Senna couldn't help but giggle a bit at the way he had worded that like he would get in trouble if he was working on something else but magic.
"I look forward to seeing both of them then, well I'm heading inside to get ready for bed, you staying out or you heading in."
She secretly hoped he would head in with her, she genuinely enjoyed their conversations. With Ven, it was like she could just let out her inner child, despite him being only a year younger than her, but at the same time, she had that feeling that talking with him about deeper meaningful conversations could crush him. She didn't think that he had ever had anything bad happen to him, and she didn't want to be the one to crush his illusions. She could also have these conversations with Aqua as well, but if it wasn't with Terra then it felt a little bit off and she didn't know why.
"No, I should head to bed as well, another busy day tomorrow and Master has some news for us."
The two started making their way up the long stairs to the entrance when Senna asked "So Terra, I got a question you said you and Aqua will be taking your mark of mastery exams soon is that right."
"Yeah, why" Terra asks nodding his head.
"I'm curious what difference will happen once you become a Master, besides maybe some secret knowledge or techniques. Is that why you and Aqua want to be Masters so bad."
"I'm not sure what difference will happen but why I want to be a Master started because unlike Aqua neither of my parents were keyblade wielders but Master Eraqus saw the potential in me and personally performed the keyblade inheritance ceremony and took in me. So in a way, I want to show him he was right in choosing me, but also lately I've realized that I want to be able to have that power in order to be able to protect my friends."
Senna just smiled, at his answer.
Terra then opened the door and gestured for her to go in first.
"What about you, Do Summoners have a title such as Masters?
Senna shrugged her shoulders "Yeah, but they are referred to as Maesters. Though many who were able to reach that title tend to let it go to their heads and their egos became way too big. That's why I questioned why you wanted to be a Master."
"Wait aren't you a Maester since you completed your training so young."
She couldn't help but scoff "You would think, but they always came up with excuse after excuse not to allow to become one. My father kept saying it was because of my young age and while I could believe that for a while when I turned 16, they still didn't want me to be a part of their council meetings because I lacked confidence. But whose to say I wouldn't have gained the confidence had they promoted me to Maester? So, I ended up taking matters into my own hands, I put an invincibility spell on myself and would sneak in."
"And no one was aware," Terra asked impressed, not noticing he took the wrong turn and was heading into the girl's section of the castle.
"None of them, not even my father as far as I'm aware. I took extra precautions and even kind of tweaked some of the spells so none of them would notice. I'm not sure if I could call it rebelling or not, but it was the most dangerous thing I suppose I ever did. Don't get me wrong I was a nervous wreck each time, but at the same, I felt it was the only way I could be a part of it."
Soon enough they were standing in front of Senna's door "I'm so sorry for rambling on again, made you distracted."
"You need to stop apologizing it's fine, it's nice to see hear about you being a rebel."
Senna stifled a laugh "All right I'll see you in the morning."
"Yeah, see you then."
As Senna shut the door behind her, she couldn't help but let out a sigh. She didn't realize her heart was beating fast, and she wasn't sure why. Was it because she told Terra sneaking into council meetings, though she knows in retrospect it really wasn't that big of a deal as there were worse things she could have done? Senna just groans and just throws herself onto her bed, just wanting to go to sleep and stop overthinking everything.
The next morning everyone was in the throne room, waiting for Master Eraqus to arrive.
"It's unusual for Master to be late, I wonder if everything is all right," Aqua says to the group.
"Well, he did say, he had news for us today, maybe that's what is holding him up" Terra offered as a possible explanation.
Suddenly the doors opened and Master Eraqus walked through but Senna noticed he was not alone. Behind him, was an older gentleman who looked much older than Master Eraqus, he was a bald man with a silver goatee wearing a white and black coat over a white shirt with some red lining over it. Out of nowhere, the old man turned his gaze towards her, and Senna's eyes widened in surprise when she saw his eyes were yellow. He gave her a smirk before he turned away.
He must have been someone important, as both Terra and Aqua immediately straightened themselves, though Ven looked uneasy at the person now in front of them.
"I'm sorry for the delay, but it seems Master Xehanort decided to visit us earlier than I was told."
So, he's also a keyblade master as well, but I can sense the darkness flowing freely through him, though there was something else there that I can't quite figure out.
Master Xehanort just scoffed "Eraqus please, I said within a couple of days. Never gave an exact date."
"He will be with us today and tomorrow to observe your training."
As Master Eraqus went on, Senna couldn't help but go back to Maester Seymour's words about those with red and yellow eyes being signs of those who have given themselves over to the darkness. She knows better than anyone that one should not judge by appearances, but at the same time, it seems this Master Xehanort freely uses darkness. Though it seems Master Eraqus has great trust in him just from the way the two talked to one another, she was really curious about him and already had questions forming in her mind.
Out of the blue, she heard Master Eraqus say her name.
"This is our honored guest I've told you about, her name is Senna."
She then saw the two of them making their way in her direction.
"Master Xehanort, it's a pleasure to meet you," Senna said as she bowed to him.
"Please there is no need to bow, if anything I should be bowing to you, Lady Senna." He said bowing to her, causing Senna to blush at the title of Lady.
"There's no need for Lady, I was never officially a Maester" Senna explained.
"Yes, but I've heard about your power from Eraqus here. From the sounds of it, you would've made a fine Maester just like your grandfather was."
Senna didn't feel she deserved to be compared to her grandfather, the man who was able to single-handedly seal away the monster Sin, who destroyed nearly half the population of summoners.
"Now that introductions are out of the way, let us begin."
Senna only stayed through part of their morning training, the past few late nights were finally starting to catch up to her, so she excused herself for the time being to take a nap and then regroup with them when they did their magic lessons.
Thankfully, it was a straightforward nap no dreams or anything like that. She got up more refreshed and looked at the clock and saw the time. It was a little past noon which meant the Aqua, Terra, and Ventus must be taking their first break of the day. She decided to go get some lunch and see if she could find any of them. However, as she made her in the common area, she hard both Master Eraqus and Master Xehanort up ahead.
"I believe Lady Senna could be even more powerful than her grandfather, I could sense a great power within her."
Senna quickly hid behind a pillar and turned her head so she could get a glimpse of them.
She saw Master Eraqus nodding his head "Yes, the potential is there. I often find myself wondering if her birth was a coincidence or fate during the timing of the Lunar Eclipse."
Wait Lunar Eclipse, what is that and what does it have to do with my birth?
She saw them quickly fading from view, and she had to make a quick decision on what to do. She knew it wasn't right to eavesdrop on Master Eraqus's conversation, since he's been nothing but kind to her but at the same time, they seem to know something about her that she doesn't. She quickly bit her lip as she made her decision.
Master Xehanort turned his head around with a smirk, before continuing with his conversation with Eraqus as they made their way back into the throne room.
"You and I know better than anyone else that there are no coincidences in life. The fact that she was the first baby to be born during a lunar eclipse in over 300 years, is no coincidence that she has been blessed with such extraordinary abilities, in fact, I believe it must have chosen her specifically because of her lineage."
Eraqus looked at his old friend with amusement "You seem to act like the moon has a spirit of its own"
"Why not, in my research the moon has many different powers to help sustain each world out there. It isn't outside the realm of possibility that it can choose to bless people."
"I suppose you're not wrong, but there's still so much we do not know and I see no reason for Senna to be aware of that now. She's already been through so much."
"It was our master was it not that prohibited our involvement when Braska sealed Sin 50 years ago, because of the tension between Summoners and Keyblade wielders over the exchange of knowledge? We were still students at the time"
Eraqus looked at Xehanort more seriously "Then that would mean we are partially responsible for the near annihilation even now."
"You said so yourself you couldn't leave your pupils as you went on a possible suicide mission when they were attacked this last time, you have saved the future of Summoners by taking Lady Senna in and sheltering her. Take pride in that Eraqus."
Before Eraqus could respond, the clock started going off.
"Well, I'm going to go find my pupils and hopefully Senna will rejoin us as I'm sure you'll be eager to see what she has taught my pupil in magic."
Xehanort nodded with a smile "Yes I am quite curious to see what knowledge she has been able to pass on to them."
As soon as he knew Eraqus was far away, Xehanort smirked as he looked over to the corner of the wall.
"You can come out now Lady Senna, Eraqus is gone."
At first, there was nothing, but suddenly Senna started to become more transparent. She looked absolutely shocked, while he looked at her with a smile.
"I can imagine you have some questions for me, Go ahead I'll answer any questions you have."
Authors Note
All right here's the next chapter and I hope everyone liked it this is part 1 of this chapter as I felt ending on a cliffhanger would be better.. Just a couple of things, in Senna's homeworld, male Maesters would be called Maester followed by their name, while females would be called Lady, as such Xehanort referred to her as Lady Senna. Lunar eclipses in this story are very rare in any kind of world, which is why they treat it like a rare celestial event.
