Chapter 163-The Battle of Hilltop
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl and Rick stood side by side as they saw the first walkers, The rest quickly starting to come out of the darkness. "You sure this was a good way to die?" Daryl asks Rick stonily.
"Nope," Rick says as the walkers start to hit the set up electric fence. The sparks fly as the walker start to split in half. One walker walking into the wire and getting it's head cut in half. Rick grabs his radio. "Carol, the second that wire stops working, let the arrows flly!"
"Copy." Carol says over her radio. The wire is quickly overwhelmed after a minute and the walkers come towards the, marching over the dead bodies. Behind them the archers brought their bow strings back and fire. Arrows fly over the group in front of the wall and start to hit the walkers in the head. The first walker hits the spikes and Daryl swings his flail and hits it in the head.
"Shields!" Rick shouts. The people with the shields walk in front of the two men. As the walkers start to hit the wood spikes members of the alliance with the shields make opening to allow fighters to swing their weapons and smashing the walkers in the head. Daryl and Rick look up when they see a projectile coming towards them and it hits the walkers splashing them and some of the shields in a slimy liquid.
"What the fuck is that?" Aaron asks. But then he looked up, paling as he saw flaming arrows come out of the sky and hit the walkers lighting them and spikes on fire. One of the walkers grab one of the fighters. The tree sap that hit them lights them on fire and they scream as they are pulled into the herd.
"It's tree sap!" Alden shouts. "It's flammable, get away from the fire!" Alden shouts as more saps are shot through the air and start to hit the walls and ground. More arrows come out of the sky and the walls and spikes around them are quickly caught on fire.
Daryl swings his flail at a walker, beside him Rick cuts off a walkers head and Alicia stabs her barrel into another walkers head. Daryl looks over as he hears a crack and the spikes start to break as the walkers start to fall into the trench. "Here they come!" Daryl yelled over as he swings his flail again.
Alpha's P.O.V
Alpha stood behind the herd with Beta as they watched the flames rise in the air, pleasing her. "When the walls fall, go Beta, find the brothers and kill them." Alpha tells Beta.
"Of course." Beta bowed his head at once. "They will walk with us," Beta says before he walks away. Alpha smiles as she stares at the flames as they rise in the air, knowing it was only a matter of time.
John's P.O.V
John shot a walker with his revolver and fired again hitting another walker. John hears a shout and sees one of the walls go down as walkers begin to enter Hilltop, and swore some of them were already drawing blades. "Deacon!" John shouts at the man who looks at him. "Take ten gunners, get to that wall!" Deacon nods as he motions for Boozer and nine others to follow him. John shoots a walker through the head and then he saw him. A shadow behind the herd moving on the edge of the woods. John grabs his radio and barks "Beta is moving behind the herd, he's going to enter Hilltop."
John then raised his revolver and shoots. The bullet hits a walker in front of Beta making the large man look at him. He then moves into the woods as John fires again hitting a tree. "He went into the woods!" The Junior Dorie baked as he hears a shout from in front of him, but shot again this time hearing a yelp as the Whisperer fell to the ground, a hole in his head
Alicia's P.O.V
Alicia stabbed her barrel into a walker's head. "They are getting over the trench!" Alden shouts. Alicia stabs another walker in the head as she sees a fighter grabbed and pulled into the herd.
"We hold the line!" Daryl says as he hits another walker. "We back up to Hilltop, but we hold the line as long as possible "
The others nod as they continue fighting the walkers, Alicia intent on making them bleed for every inch, the herd pushing them back towards the wall. Aaron swings his mace down on a walkers head and beside him Gabriel slams his machete down on a walkers head. They hear a crash behind them and look at the wall as it starts to crumble to the ground.
"They're going to get in anyways. Daryl, we need to move into Hilltop!" Aaron says as he stabs a walker through the head, shooting with his other hand and seeing a Whisperer fall down.
"Start to move back!" Rick ordered as they continue to move towards Hilltop.
Shane's P.O.V
Shane slammed a walker through the head, blood pouring down as beside him Madison slams a hatchet down as well. Shane kicks a walker in the chest and stabs another walker through the head. "How long do we go until we move?" Madison asks as she kills another walker.
"We have to make sure the kids get out! And make sure they pay for it!" Shane shouts as he stabs another walker in the head. "We wait until Carl, Earl, Lydia, and Arya get the kids out, or we die making sure they do!" Shane says as another walker is slashed, the head in two. Behind him he saw Negan hit a walker in the head.
"We keep going! Until they kids are gone!"
"Roger that! Man, keep em coming!"
Madison looked at him "Are you Enjoying this!?"
"What can I say, I love me a good scrape!" Negan cackled and swung hard, a walker's head almost knocked clean off.
Carl's P.O.V
Carl slammed his hatchet down on a walkers head as Earl hits a walker in the head as they went up the basement stairs to the back entrance. As them Arya kicks one in the leg and stabs it in the head as Lydia hits one with her bo staff. "Arya, Lydia, get the kids now!" Carl ordered at the two teens who nod as they enter the basement. Carl and Earl stand by the door, Earl slamming his hammer down on a walkers head as Judith comes up the steps with the other kids behind her, her pistol at the ready, Arya and Lydia in the back.
"You stay by us, you do not move away, do you understand!?" Earl yelled in authority to the kids who nod. "Carl we gotta go!"
Carl nods as he starts to follow the man, the flames coming down and grimly seeing Barrington itself start to catch fire.
Siddiq's P.O.V
Siddiq moved back from the walls, swinging a machete into a walkers head and heard a noise behind him. He turned to see Carl, Earl, Arya, and Lydia running from around the now on fire Barrington, just visible from the flames. He kills another walker and sees three figures moving towards the kids. He watches as they remove knives from their sleeves, and One of them took out a handgun and aiming at Andrea who was holding Robert, the two frozen at the sight.
"NO!" Siddiq shouts as he runs up to the Whisperer and tackles him to the ground, the gun going off with the bullet hitting the side of Barrington house making Carl stop and look at him. "GO!" He shouts as he stabs the Whisperer in the head and another stabs him in the shoulder.
"Siddiq!" Carl shouts. Siddiq swings his hand back and hits the whisper in the face as the other one stabs him in the back. Siddiq kicks him as he stands back up and looks at Carl, blood pouring down as he elbowed the Whisperer in the jaw.
"GO! Get them out of here! It's okay, Carl! Let me save you this time!" Carl stares at his friend as Earl grabs his shoulder and pulls him away, faintly hearing the yells from the man that they needed to run. Siddiq breathes heavily as the now enraged skin wearers, angry they lost their prey, swing at Siddiq who dodges and stabs one of them in the stomach. The other one tackles him to the ground and stabs his knife into Siddiq's stomach. Siddiq screams out in pain as he removes his knife and stabs it into the whispers neck. The whisper falls to the ground as Siddiq get's to his knees and sees the walkers coming towards him. He pulls out his gun and puts his up to his chin as blood leaks from his stomach, shoulder, and back, vowing to not walk with them.
And he remembered.
"I'm Carl."
"Let's honor both our mothers."
"Thank you, Carl," Siddiq says before he pulls the trigger and his world goes black.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl hits a walker in the head with a flail, slams it down on a second one. Behind him Rosita stabs yet another, the ground almost not being seen, covered with bodies of the dead and dying. "We have to go, Daryl!" Rosita says as Morgan, Strand, and Kenneth come up to him.
"I gotta find Alicia!" Daryl shouted back as he smashed another walker, every muscle in his body aching from the past few hours.
"Daryl! We have to go!" Morgan says as he grabs his best friends arm. "Now! This fight is over! Alicia will get out! She is strong!"
Daryl growled as he hits another walker. Rosita grabs his arm and pulls him away. "This fight is over."
"This is their home dammit!" Daryl snapped, not wanting Maggie and Beth to lose yet another home by fire.
"Not anymore." Morgan says as they pull him away from Hilltop.
Turning, he then saw something...a shadow running across the burning community and Morgan turned, them realizing it was Maggie.
Screaming for her son, heading to the on fire Barrington House.
"HERSHEL!"
Hershel's P.O.V
*a few minutes ago*
Hershel was at the back of the group, but her turned and looked at Barrington house as it started to catch on fire. He looked at Arya and Lydia who were fighting walkers, Carl and Earl directing them to an opening at the Wall. Hershel then moves away from the others and goes to the house. "Hershel!" He hears someone shout.
He runs into the house and into Beth's office. He coughed out as the fire started to come in, dodging a burning beam and looked up to what he came for.
There was his Father's picture, his Grandfather's...he grabbed a chair and started to climb up to get them both but heard a noise behind him.
"You shouldn't have come in here, child." Hershel turns and sees a towering monster in standing in the door, licked with flames. And for a brief moment, Hershel thought he was in Hell and there was a Demon. The boy coughs as smoke starts to enter his lungs, falling off the chair. The towering monster came forward, a massive knife drawn with a coldblood snarl "You will walk with us. You will—"
But then Beta is cut off by a charging Negan running into the large man knocking him into the desk, sending it splintering into pieces. Hershel takes a step back as Beta gets up and looks at Negan, eyes murderous with recognition. "You're the one they used to fear? Show me."
"Oh really? Well let's dance fee fih fo asshole!" Negan snarled back with no fear before he punches Beta in the face. Beta stumbles back and then runs into Negan slamming him into the wall, the wall almost giving way by the force. He punches Negan in the side and then the face, then bringing his knife down. Negan grabbed the wrist, the tip inches from his face, as he brings his knee up and hits Beta in the stomach. The large man let's out a grunt of pain as Negan grabs his mask and headbutts him.
Hershel falls on his back as he coughs out, the room filling with smoke and his world becomes blurry. "Hershel! Hershel hang in there!" He heard as his world turned to black
Negan's P.O.V
Beta stares at Negan who turned back with a grin, Blood going down Negan's head and his mouth, spitting at Beta's feet. "What's the matter? Scared of the Big Bad Wolf?" Beta answered with a snarl as he punches Negan in the face. He then grabs Negan by the hair and knees him in the stomach, then pushes Negan into the wall, sending him through it to the hallway. Climbing through the rubble, he punches him in the face again. Negan spits blood onto Beta's mask as he grabs a knife from his belt and stabs it into the large man's side. Beta roared in pain as he takes a step back and Negan charges him again tackling him into another room, down onto a table in a heap. He grabs Beta's arm as he swings and swings his fist to the side hitting Beta in the face and knocking out two teeth.
"Fucking! Cock! Sucking! Skin! Wearing! Lunatic! Asshole!" Each word answered with a punch into the Second of the Whisperers face.
But then Beta grabbed Negan's hand, twisting it as the former Warlord screamed in pain, throwing him off into a cabinet, Negan grabbing Beta's face and pushing him away...but then Negan looked and realized he was holding half of Beta's mask.
He looked up and he saw the half uncovered..."Holy shit." Negan paused for a terrifying moment as he stares Beta in disbelief "You're-"
"NO ONE CAN KNOW!" Beta suddenly screamed as with terrifying speed, he swings his fist and starts to beat Negan. Rapidly hitting the former savior leader in the face, chest, and stomach, screaming those words again and again and again.
"NO ONE CAN KNOW NO ONE CAN KNOW NO ONE CAN KNOW!" Beta almost ferally roared.
Negan then dodges a swing and kicks Beta backwards, into a flame covered pillar, but as he goes to charge him again, but a piece of the flame drenched roof falls onto Beta crushing him as the fire surrounds the wood and the floor around him.
"...Fuck...you...your music...sucked...not sure...why Luc...liked you."
For a minute, Negan coughs up blood, his chest, his face, his arms, every bit of him hurt and likely covered in bruises as he went down the Hall, ducking his head from the ever growing flames and smoke.
In the office, he goes over to Hershel and picks him up with aching arms. He limped and dragged himself outside, and with a blood drenched vision, just sees Carl and Maggie running up to him, Maggie screaming for her son.
Coughing out, he went down the porch, forcing his body to move...as he dazedly handed the boy over to his Mother, it the last thing he remembered before his world went black.
Alicia's P.O.V
Alicia stabs a walker through the head as more come towards her, the other hand on her stomach as she was backed into one of the trailers. She had lost track of Daryl and everybody else. Everywhere she saw, there was a Walker, growing and snarling, but as A walker grabs her arm, a hatchet goes through it's head. She looks up to see Rick as he cut down another walker and Carol stabs a walker through the head, clearing a path "Daryl!?"
"Rosita got him out!" Rick tells her. "Now we need to get you out."
Alicia nods as they fight their way out of Hilltop. They get out and start to run away from the community. "We're gonna find them."
Rick said firmly, and reassuringly "Stick to the plan, head to the rally point!"
Carl's P.O.V
Carl and Earl carry Negan, one arm over each shoulder as they enter the woods. Behind them the kids, Arya, Lydia, and Maggie walked. Maggie carrying her son as Hilltop was overrun behind them and burnt to the ground. "Don't…" Carl realized Negan was awake, as he muttered to them "Don't look back. Keep moving." Negan says as they enter the woods. "Don't look back."
Thanks for reading. That is the battle of Hilltop and that was such a fun chapter to write. RIP my boy Siddiq but his story was over and I liked how he went out. We are almost done with the whisper Arc. Next chapter everybody tries to find each other. Eugene talks with Regina, the kids find out the truth about Negan and Rick and Carol learn something about Alicia. As always suggestions, ideas, and feedback are welcomed. Until next time.
