The news of the war between Lingyue and Alakasita had spread to Ishgar's ears. everyone at Fairy Tail learned about the situation and many are worried for their friends at Lingyue.
As the situation was worrying for Lucy and the others, the group decided to form a secret team consisting of 11 people that would head off straight for Lingyue in order to give assistance to their comrades.
Currently, in the sky during the morning day. Ash is flying through some clouds as the wyvern is heading straight for Lingyue.
As Ash flies, everyone on board its saddle is either resting or staying watch of the scenery. Those being asleep are Lucy, Cana, Wendy, Charla, Lisanna, Elfman, Levy, Gajeel, and Lily while the ones being on watch are Erza and Mira.
Both the Titania and the Majin looking out to the distance of the vast sky filled with clouds.
"You think that this war got something to do with either sides' diplomatic problems?" Mira spoke as she looks at Erza. "like one hit the other kinda stuff?"
"it's a possibility" Erza spoke as she watch Ash fly through a cloud. The scarlet knight had her eyes closed for a moment before she open them and looks towards Mira. "but right now, that's option is only possible considering the circumstances." She looks to the distance once again. "for now, our definite answer lies at Lingyue."
"I guess so." Mira nodded before she looks to the distance with Erza. "just hope that things are okay with Natsu and the others. I mean…Lingyue has never gone to war with another continent, right?"
"I don't know," Erza shakes her head before remembering her past battle against Gojin that ended in her defeat. "But considering how strong the 8 Generals are when we first fought them, I can only say that they are very strong. Just that."
"Yeah.." Mira said, remembering her past fight against Lingyue's Water General that ended in no one's victory. She scratches the back of her head while having an annoyed face. "I remember how Mizuki nearly kicked my ass with just blasts of water."
"I would've paid good money to see that." Erza chuckles with a small smirk.
"YOU WANNA FIGHT, REDHEAD!?" Mira shouted angrily.
As the two chattered, the others began to wake up from their sleep.
"Are we there yet?" Levy asks in a drowsy voice.
"not yet." Erza replied as she and Mira turned to see everyone waking up from their sleep. "but we're almost there."
"almost being an hour, I bet." Elfman scratches the back of his head before he yawns.
"yeah," Levy said before she looks to the front and sees Ash yawning loudly while still flying. "just hope that we get there before Ash falls asleep."
"Sorry that we make you work so much, Ash." Wendy apologizes to Ash who growls in response.
"so then, now what we're almost at Lingyue…." Cana spoke as she take out a magic card that flashes and a pile of food appears before everyone. The card mage taking a bottle of wine and pops out the cork with her thumb. "what's the first thing we need to do?"
"First would be to collect some information." Erza said while being handed a wrapped up sandwich from Lucy. "We need to know on what scale has the war progressed and find out what caused it in the first place."
"let's try asking the Lingyue Generals about it." Lucy spoke while opening her sandwich and holding it near her mouth. "They are the continent's guardians, after all."
"Since we're coming in from their north side, I guess Raikou would be the person we need to talk to." Lily spoke, remembering that the north part of Lingyue's island is protected by the Lightning General.
"and with the war going on, I don't want to give an idea how damage the place might be.." Gajeel spoke and everyone instantly imagined the northern section of Lingyue being consumed by the ongoing war.
"I hope everyone is alright…" Wendy frowns with a worried look.
"just thinking about the war makes me feel all worried." Lisanna added in. "all those people going to battle.."
"Those guys are strong, they're the man after all." Elfman said with a firm nod.
"We have to believe in them, Wendy." Charla told her partner who nods.
As everyone conversed, Ash let out a loud growl that got everyone's attention.
"what the heck is that?" Mira asks as everyone looks to the front, and they see large stone pillars surrounding the sea borders of Lingyue which has a dense fog surrounding it.
"That wasn't there when we last visited, right?" Cana asks and Levy with Wendy and Charla nodded.
"Something tells me that the war might have made those pillars." Lisanna said as Ash comes flying near one of the stone pillars. She looks and sees Lingyue letters carved on the rocky surface. "are they some sort of protection wards or something?"
"I think so." Levy said as she looks at the letters. "I can't understand them all, but one of those letters mean Protection."
"think that these pillars and the fog were made to protect the continent?" Mira asks as she checks the fog and sees how thick it is, even with the morning sunlight shining its rays down upon it.
"With Lingyue's capabilities in using their Chi, anything is possible." Erza said before she sensed something from one of the nearby rock pillars that they went pass.
"what's wrong, Erza?" Lucy asks, seeing Erza's gaze to the nearby rock pillar.
Erza looks at one of the large rock pillars and her sight caught something flashing from the sunlight.
"get down!" Erza shouted as she pushes Lucy to Mira while summoning a magic sword that she swung to deflect a thrown kunai.
"what the heck!?" Mira shouted as she looks at where the kunai came from and to her surprise more Kunais and shurikens came flying at their direction. "incoming!"
Erza along with Mira and Gajeel went into action as they deflected the incoming projectiles with their magic while the others protected themselves.
As the rains of kunai and shurikens came flying upon them, a few fly and pierced Ash's right wing which causes some tears to appear.
"w-what the!? Ash!?" Lucy hangs onto the wyvern's saddle as the flying reptile is descending in its flight.
"his wing!" Lisanna shouted as she sees the holes on the wyvern's right wing just growing from being forced to contain the wind that pass through them.
"This is bad! We're falling straight for the fog!" Cana shouted as she hangs onto the saddle. The card mage seeing that their ride is falling straight for the dense fog. "it's good if we hit the water, but I won't like it if we hit solid ground!"
"Wendy! Can you heal Ash's wounds!?" Gajeel shouted as he, Mira, and Erza hangs on. "we'll be pancakes if we don't get him to regain his flight!"
"i-I'll do my best!" Wendy cried out while slowly crawling to Ash's right wing.
"Wendy!" Charla follows her partner as so did Levy and Elfman.
"we'll help too!" Levy cried out.
"I'll hang on to you two!" Elfman shouted.
Wendy, Charla, Levy, and Elfman works together as the Sky Dragon Slayer uses her healing magic to heal the holes on Ash's wings with Charla helping her to stay on board, the Script Mage using her magic to make Bandage patches for the holes while Beast Takeover mage holds onto her legs.
"Hurry! Wendy! Levy-chan!" Lucy cries out as Ash is falling even faster towards the dense fog.
"just one more!" Levy cried out as she makes one more Bandage patch that sealed up the last hole. "now!"
"Ash! Fly!" Erza shouted as Ash quickly flaps his wings several times and regains its flight.
"alright!" Elfman shouted while pulling back Levy, Wendy, and Charla back to the saddle. "nice going!"
"we're not in the clear just yet!" Mira exclaimed as she saw shadows moving around the stone pillars and into the fogs. "whatever attacked us, isn't letting us go off scotch!"
"Shadows? Is it Yamika!?" Lily exclaimed, remembering how the Darkness General has the ability to move into the shadows like Sabertooth's Rogue Cheney.
"and I don't think she's alone!" Cana said seeing that there's more than one shadow following them.
The shadows keep on following Ash before kunais and shurikens came flying straight for the wyvern's underside.
"Keep those things away from Ash!" Erza shouted as Gajeel quickly uses his magic to make iron plates to cover all of Ash's underside that gets protected from the thrown projectiles.
"Ash! Go up!" Mira shouted as she sees the wyvern flying straight for a rock wall.
Ash growls as the wyvern quickly flaps its wings and ascends over the rocks then enters the sky above the forest.
"Those things are damn persistent!" Cana exclaimed while taking out a few magic cards. Ready to throw the cards at the shadows that still follows them.
"Wait, Cana!" Lily halted the card mage's actions. "they're only protecting Lingyue from us who they think are invaders! Don't attack!"
"Then what are we supposed to do!?" Cana retorted.
"Look out!" Lisanna screams as she sees large black nets came flying at their direction.
"Ash! Dodge!" Erza shouted to the wyvern as Ash leans to the left and then to the right to dodge a few nets, but one got stuck to its right wing, making it off balance. "damnit!"
"we're going down!" Lucy screams as Ash falls straight into the forest in a big dust crash that resulted in a big drag mark and a few broken trees.
When Ash crashed, everyone on board its saddle had fallen out and are everywhere.
"i-is everyone…alright?" Erza asks while slowly standing up.
"I think so.." Cana grunts as she sits up and rubs a hand on the back of her head. "man, that was one heck of a crash…."
"Neechan, Lisanna." Elfman sits up as he had quickly grabbed Mira and Lisanna then shields them with his large body. "you two alright?"
"yeah." Mira nods.
"thanks, Elf-niichan." Lisanna thanked her brother.
"it hurts..." Lucy groaned in pain as she along with Wendy, Charla, and Levy are in some bushes where they have twigs and leaves all over their messed up hair. They quickly get out and shakes their head to rid to clean the mess on them. "Just what was that all about!?"
"We were thought to be invaders and they wanted to take us down." Lily spoke as he dusts off dirt on his hands while Gajeel came near him. "it's basic military tactics to attack an enemy's mode of transportation if they are in the air."
"didn't think that Lingyue had the stuff for that." Gajeel spoke while going to the large net that is nearby. He leans down and picks up a part of it. "it's made from some sort of metal that is flexible. Feels strong too."
"guess when we came here last time and with the diplomatic relation established, they upped their defenses in case of an invasion." Levy spoke while picking out small twigs from her hair.
Ash growls a bit weakly as the wyvern is on the ground and not moving.
"is Ash alright?" Lisanna asks Wendy and Charla who came near the wyvern.
"seems that with the exhaustion from flying too long added with the crash, caused too much damage." Charla said while Wendy uses her healing magic to heal some of the wyvern's injury.
"I don't think we can rely on Ash to get back to Ishgar." Wendy said while looking at Erza who came near her. "He needs a few days of rest to heal, Erza-san."
"I see.." Erza nodded in understanding before she sensed something and quickly turns while wielding a magic sword. "all of you! Be prepared! We're still being followed!"
"eh!?" Lucy and the others quickly looked around and true to Erza's words, they see black cloaked ninjas appearing out of the shadows and surround them.
"Ninjas!?" Levy exclaimed.
"they're a part of that Yamika's troops considering that they appeared out of the shadows and stuff." Gajeel said, watching the troops of ninjas who are slowly closing in on them while holding kunais and katanas at the ready. "heard that they're kind of like a secret black ops unit."
"What should we do?" Mira asks with a glance at Erza. "They gave us a hard welcome greeting after all."
"We are here only for gathering information and helping the people of Lingyue." Erza spoke before she raises her hands and slowly made her way to one of the ninjas. "Stay back and let me talk to them."
The ninjas watches Erza as they ready their weapons at her.
"My name is Erza Scarlet! I'm a mage of Fairy Tail from Ishgar!" Erza exclaimed while still having her hands up. "I mean you all no harm! I merely wish to talk!"
The ninjas watched her before one came forth and stands a few feet away from Erza.
"What business does people of Ishgar have to come to our land through uncertain methods?" the single ninja asks Erza.
"Uncertain methods?" Wendy looks confused.
"He means Ash." Charla spoke. "Lingyue doesn't have wyverns for transportation, after all."
"I apologize for our arrival by riding on our wyvern comrade, but it was the only way to arrive upon Lingyue in a day and night's travel." Erza replied with a hand placed on her chest plate. "We came seeking knowledge regarding the on-going war between Lingyue and Alakasita."
The ninja looks at Erza for a moment before he glances to the side and sees his fellow comrades sharing looks at one another. This goes on for a moment before they focus back on the Fairy Tail members.
"I shall go and inform Ryujima-sama of your arrival." The ninja spoke as he turned and did a hand signal which made all the other ninjas back away with their weapons sheathed. "But until I return with news, my men shall stay here and keep an eye on you all, understand?"
"Very well." Erza nodded in understanding before the ninjas disappears into the shadows.
"And here I thought that Rogue guy got the ways with the shadows." Cana said, seeing how fast the ninjas disappeared.
"so we have to stay till he comes back?" Lisanna asks Erza who came back to the others.
"it would seem so." Erza nods before she glances to the side. "I believe that they are currently on a hostile behavior because of the war." She looks back at her friends. "Seems that they can't be lenient to anyone. Even us."
"that's understandable considering the situation." Lily said while nodding a few times.
"I guess we all got to sit back and wait." Cana said as she went and sits on the ground. "just hope that they can get back to us fast." she held up a magic card and a wine bottle appear in her grasp. "don't wanna die of boredom after all."
Everyone looked at Cana and then to each other before they all decided to do what they needed to do while waiting.
Wendy with Lisanna, and Levy use the time to heal Ash's injuries, Erza with Mira, Gajeel, and Lucy discussed what they should do when the ninjas come back with news, and the rest rested themselves.
Time goes on as nearly 2 hours passes before the ninjas returned but this time with the Darkness General, Yamika at their side.
"to think that you all came after hearing the news." Yamika spoke as she faced the people of Fairy Tail who faced her. she sighs while closing her eyes. "Ryujima-sama was correct in believing that your behaviors are respectable and annoying at the same time."
"Yamika." Erza greeted Yamika first while nodding. "thank you for coming to greet us, we.."
"I know what you wish to ask, but I'm here to inform you that I cannot give you the answers." Yamika said while shaking her head, she opens her eyes and looks at the group. "I am only here to escort you all minus the wyvern to the Emperor Island where Ryujima-sama awaits you all."
"if that's the case, let's go and…" Mira spoke out while Yamika did a few hand signs and then slammed a hand to the ground in creating a large black glowing lingyue magic circle.
"Kuro Jutsu: Kagesugu" Yamika chanted and everyone minus Ash and the ninjas disappears into the shadows that engulfs them.
At the front entrance of the Emperor Island's palace, a black magic circle appears and in a black flash everyone reappears.
"Talk to…" Mira continues her sentences before she stops when she realizes where she is. "eh?"
"Come." Yamika spoke as she is walking to the front entrance of the palace that is opened by several guards that kneels to her.
"I'm guessing that's just one of the many transportation methods available in Lingyue.." Levy spoke and Wendy with Charla nodded.
"the important matter is that we're here." Erza spoke as she began walking to the front entrance with Mira, Gajeel, Elfman, and Lisanna. "let's go."
"w-wait for us!" Lucy cries out as she and the rest follow.
Meanwhile, in another room on the top floor.
Ryujima is found sitting by a table with his knees on a pillow. The former emperor of Lingyue is currently reading reports written in a few scrolls laid out around him.
The man reads each report with a careful gaze before he glance to the side when the door to the room is slide to the side and Yamika enters before kneeling respectfully to him.
"Ryujima-sama, I have brought the people of Fairy Tail to the palace as you've requested." Yamika spoke and Ryujima nodded while continuing his report reading.
"bring them in, Yamika." Ryujima said as he reads the report in one scroll and then another. "and do so kindly ask the servants to bring in tea and snacks for our guests."
"as you wish." Yamika replied with a nod before she stand and then turns to look outside the door, motioning a hand towards Erza and the others to come in.
In a minute, everyone entered the room and was serve with tea and snacks by the servants.
"I was expecting your arrivals to be at a more later time, dear friends." Ryujima spoke while taking a brush that has its tip dipped with ink, he begins writing on one of scroll's report before rolling it up and tying it with a small string. "but considering your endeavoring characteristics, I suppose that it was a mistake on my side along with my son in law's."
"You say that like you were expecting us to come." Erza spoke with a hard gaze directed at the former Emperor of Lingyue. "and a mistake on both yours and Natsu's side would imply that you have knowledge in it, did you not?" the scarlet knight hardens her gaze at Ryujima who nodded while handing the scroll to Yamika who came and took it out of the room. Seeing the action, Titania closed her eyes and sighs. "Then it was as I feared…"
"What do you mean?" Elfman asks looking confused at Erza along with Lisanna, Lucy, Wendy, Levy, Cana and Charla looks confused.
"He expected us to come like he knew this would happen." Erza replied. "he knew that the war was going on far longer than we do."
"Wait what?" Lucy gasps in surprise. "you mean, that this war has been going on way before we heard it yesterday!?"
"Perspective." Ryujima spoke with a chuckle as he stands from his seat and then walks near the side of the room to slide open the door to reveal the balcony. "You have learned well under my son in law, Erza Scarlet." He gazed at the view of the Emperor City from the top of the palace, the man letting the wind dance through his hair. "It is true. The war between Lingyue and Alakasita has proceeded far longer than you had first learned of it."
"Longer? How long?" Mira asks.
"Counting the time that it started a month after your guild's battle against the demons," Ryujima spoke while sitting down and then crossing his arms on his chest. "I supposed nearly a year and a half."
"a year and a half!?" Everyone exclaimed in shock. "that long!?"
"if it has gone that long, how come we never heard of it until yesterday!?" Charla exclaimed in shock. "a war that has gone for that long! How was it kept a secret from all of us!?"
"Considering that it occurs between two continents that is not ours…" Lily spoke while thinking hard. "it's not strange that it could be kept a secret if no one learns of it."
"kept a secret.." Levy spoke in a whisper before she gasps and then stand up to face Ryujima. "wait! Does that mean whenever you or any of the Lingyue Generals come to visit to check up on Haruka and Haruo, the war was going on even then!?"
Ryujima kept silent and just nodded which made everyone look more surprised.
"hey! If it was going on for that long, why didn't you tell any of us!?" Elfman exclaimed while slamming a fist to the floor.
"Even if I were to tell you all about it, what differences would it make?" Ryujima asks with his head slightly turned to glance at his guests. "if I recall correctly, Ishgar and Lingyue are only in a peace relations that benefits in their economic trade, correct?"
"Even if it's just a trade relation, Natsu-san and Ikaruga-san and Ikki-kun are a part of Fairy Tail!" Wendy cried out. "If they're in trouble because of the war! We too!"
"That is not something Natsu would've wanted." Ryujima spoke as he looked back at the view outside. "I find it surprising that you all do not know my son in law's personality after being with him for years."
"just what does that even mean?!" Cana exclaimed as she was about to go at Ryujima but Erza quickly grabs her hand and stops her. "wha? Erza!?"
"are you saying….that Natsu himself kept this war a secret?" Erza asks and everyone quickly looks at her and then at Ryujima who stays silent and gazes the distant view of the island. "Did he tell you to keep this war a secret from everyone? Even to his own children?"
Ryujima kept looking forward before he did a silent nod.
"Then…" Erza looks down while having a very frustrated look on her face. "it is as I feared!"
"what's wrong, Erza?" Lucy ask confused.
"Do you not comprehend even after arriving upon Lingyue?" Ryujima asks. "upon your arrival at the borders and upon the Lightning Island. Did you find any proof of such war upon the lands?"
"When we came?" Mira spoke as she thought back and quickly realized that everything upon Lingyue is peaceful, the only thing different is the fog and the large stone walls that now protect it. "wait! Does that mean!?"
"Mean what?" Lisanna asks, very confused as to where the conversation is going.
"Natsu is the only one who has been fighting in the war." Erza spoke with a very angered and frustrated voice. "he's been fighting against Alakasita's forces by himself."
"What!?" Everyone looks surprised once again.
"For almost a year and a half…" Charla spoke out.
"Even with his own prowess, fighting another continent's military forces for such a period of time is nearly suicide!" Lily stated while a bead of sweat slides down the side of his head. "Just why did he choose to fight on his own!?"
"it's because of who he is." Gajeel spoke, the Iron Dragon Slayer not showing any emotion, but in his eyes, he has the look of pure anger and frustration. "that damn Salamander thinks he's so tough that he could do this type of thing on his own! Tch! So damn annoying!"
"Gajeel…" Levy frowns towards Gajeel as the Script Mage understands how the Iron Dragon Slayer really feels.
"how could you let Natsu-san go in such a war, Ryujima-san!?" Wendy asks in a completely baffled voice. "isn't he the Emperor of Lingyue!? He's your son in law, Haruo-kun and Haruka-chan's father!" she grasped a hand to her chest and then swung it to the side. "how could you let him go!?"
"it was his request as the Emperor of Lingyue." Ryujima replied. "and as according with the ancient rules written down by my ancestors. It is within my obligation to follow with his commands."
"Then screw the rules!" Mira shouted while getting up from her seat. "if Natsu's fighting this war on his own!" she punches a fist on an open palm while smirking a bit. "then let's join it before we give him a knock on the head for being so selfish!"
"Yeah!" "I'm with you!" "hell yeah!" "we're the man after all!" Cana along with Lucy, Lisanna, and Elfman joins Mira, ready to help in the battle.
"I kindly suggest that you do not." Ryujima spoke with a glance to the group as in a second, ninjas and soldiers came entering the room from the doorway, windows, furniture, ceilings, and even from the floorboards. "as Natsu had requested me to keep the information of the war a secret from all of you…"
"He asked you to also keep us from intervening." Erza said as she and the others huddled up in seeing how many ninjas and soldiers were coming into the room. "Right?"
"Indeed." Ryujima said as he turns to face the group slowly being surrounded by his subordinates. "now, I would kindly offer the proposition for you all to surrender and allow my subordinates to gently escort you all back to Ishgar or…"
"Or you will do it the hard way, is it?" Charla said as she and Lily transformed into their battle ready forms.
"Fine by us!" Cana exclaimed while taking out a few of her magic cards. "Never liked the easy way!"
"Ryujima-san, I would like to apologize in advance once we harm your subordinates, but I would like to also give you an advice in advance." Erza spoke to Ryujima who raise an eyebrow in being intrigued by her words. The scarlet knight summons a sword and then points it at the former emperor who is quickly shielded by a few soldiers. "to us, to Fairy Tail. When one of our family members is in need of assistances, we shall always come to help them no matter how far, no matter how long, and no matter how arrogant selfish they are."
"I shall take note of that." Ryujima spoke before he raise his right hand and this is a signal for the soldiers and ninjas to ready their weapons while closing in on the group.
Fairy Tail huddled close as they watched their surroundings with careful eyes.
"so what's the plan, Erza?" Lucy asks while holding both Leo and Tauruts Zodiac Keys.
"if Natsu is fighting against Alakasita, then I suggest we all follow where the stone walls lead to." Erza said while summoning another magic sword into her grasp. "remember, everyone. Lingyue is still our comrades, do not hurt them too much, understood?"
"yeah! /yes! /got it!" everyone replied in unison.
A minute later, outside of the palace.
BOOM!
An explosion blew out from the top floor and smoke along with a few ninjas and soldiers were blown out. Many citizens saw the explosion and were confused as to what had caused it.
Just as the explosion had died down, the Fairy Tail Mages proceeds to run or fly out of the palace. Erza dons her Heaven Wheel Armor and flew in the sky while holding Lucy and Cana, Mira is in her Satan Soul and is doing the same with Lisanna and Elfman, Charla and Lily sprouted their Aera Wings and carries their Dragon Slayer partners but Gajeel carried Levy with him.
"head straight for the mountains!" Erza shouted. "just like how there's a secret path from the Earth Island to Emperor Island, there's bound to be a secret path from here to Lightning Island!"
"right!" everyone replied as they all headed north.
Back in the palace's top floor, many soldiers and ninjas were on the floor and coughing from the smoke or was beaten up. Ryujima was the only one unscathed as the former Emperor merely stands by the balcony and watches the Fairy Tail Mage heading off.
"R-Ryujima-sama, should we inform the Generals and have them give chase?" an injured soldier asks the former Emperor who stood in silence for a moment before he turns to look at the man.
"No need." Ryujima stated before looking back to the view outside, seeing Erza and the others slowly disappearing into the far distance, but they are being pursued by several fast individuals running on top of several house's rooftops. "They are already giving chase as we speak." He turns and takes a few steps into the room before looking back at the soldier. "what you shall do is to call upon our healers to tend to your and your brethren's injuries. Understood?"
"yes!" the soldier bows before relaying his orders.
Ryujima watches the soldier leaves before he turns and then sighs with his eyes closed.
"Seems that the secret is out." Ryujima spoke as he sighs once again. "even with our combined efforts, we were not able to keep it from Ishgar's ears and eyes." He walks in the room before he goes and picks up a seat pillow that he dusts off and then place to the floor for him to sit down. "but I suppose that this is fate." He opens his eyes and then looks to the side. "Fate that cannot be changed."
As Ryujima ponders in his thoughts, someone came into the room and then kneels near him. the Former Emperor didn't turn nor glance to see who it was.
"They are heading straight for Lightning Island." Ryujima spoke. "I shall entrust the task of obstructing their path to you." He reaches a hand to the sleeves of his attire and takes out a smoking pipe. "Do note that they are still your comrades and people who we trust as well." He inserted wood chips into the pipe and lights it before inhaling a puff of smoke that he exhales through the side of his lips. "Go. it's time to show the result of your training."
The person he speaks to nodded before slowly rising and reveals herself to be none other than Kagura Mikazuchi of Mermaid Heel.
