Itachi was panting, his forehead covered in sweat in spite of the cold January weather. I was better than him, but I sported a few bruises now. I had unlocked his sharingan, the regular one, although I told him to not use it for long periods of time, so he would literally use it for like a second or two, get what he needed from it and switch back to black eyes.

Damn him.

"So, did it give you an idea?" I asked him, sitting next to him in the grass. He pursed his lips.

"I think." I turned toward him. "You froze and returned any Water techniques I used." I nodded. "You can do that with your own as well?"

"Yes, I can turn a water dragon into an ice one for more raw strength."

"Have you thought about doing it with other techniques?"

"Of course I did. The thing is, I can do it with my Water Shield because the purpose is simple. I tried to do it with my Water Clones to have like...a weaker replica of the Shodai's Wood Clones, but it was a serious challenge and as I had other things to do, I stopped trying. The same goes with my Water Mirror Technique, having it turned into a Hyouton technique would make it a great distraction." He nodded thoughtfully.

"I agree. Your Water Mirror Technique is impressive already." I puffed my chest a little.

"It's a Karatachi Yagura's original." I pointed an accusing finger at him. "No copying my techniques with your sharingan Itachi." His gaze was unimpressed.

"I'm not interested." I stuck my tongue at him and he stood up. "Come on, get up."

"Heh, already? You sure you've rested enough?"

"I'm not a kid," he hissed at me in annoyance.

After three hours, we decided to call it a day. Itachi was exhausted and I was frustrated. We got some takeouts for dinner, soba, and went home. The evening was nice and relaxing until someone rang the bell.

"It's late, are you expecting someone?" I asked Itachi as he got up.

"No, you?" I shook my head and watched him leave the room to open the door. "Oh, it's you."

"Hey Itachi, how you doing?" I widened my eyes at the voice. "Sorry for coming unannounced, the Hokage told me I could crash here because Uzu..."

"Sure, come in." Soon, I had Dai in front of me, his bag on his shoulder. I stood up, my heart beating too fast in my chest.

"Di...did something happen? Is Haku..." He blinked.

"Still sleeping." I sighed in relief, a hand on my chest.

"Then why are you here?"

"For you dumb ass." I paled.

"Wh...did sensei make you take over the exchange?" Itachi frowned slightly behind Dai, who shook his head.

"No, not at all. Aneki asked me to come to Konoha for a mission regarding medical stuff and asked me to check up on you at the same time."

"I see." He put his bag next to the table and looked around.

"That's a nice place you got."

"Thanks," I replied. I saw Itachi leaving the room from the corner of my eyes and I shifted from a foot to another. Dai sighed and walked up to me.

"Hey, that's okay, I'm not mad at you Uzu," he stated before hugging me. "I'm just glad they convinced you not to leave." He chuckled to himself. "God, they must have made a huge deal out of this!"

"...it is a huge deal," I mumbled, hugging him back awkwardly.

"Huh, we're used to it. Aneki and I have like five different plans in case." I smiled faintly. "You're drained, aren't you?"

"Kinda...it's more like I never bothered getting too involved in Konoha now because I didn't want to..." I sighed and he pulled me back.

"But it was fine with Kiri because you had no real tie with it." I nodded.

"The only two people still alive were you and sensei. Chojuro as well but...I never got close to him like here." He frowned.

"Wait...Suigetsu di..." I shook my head.

"No, but because Mangetsu died way earlier, he never were rescued from Orochimaru. He was alive and well though."

"...I don't know if I should be glad about this or not." I shrugged.

"Point is, they were all dead while in Konoha...I had people. I just...here, I didn't want to see how it turned out."

"I get it." He ruffled my hair with a grin. "But they're taking care of you, right?" I nodded.

"I see Inoichi-san once to twice a week, to...talk about things. I walk around to really see what changed. It's..."

"A grieving process, there's no shame in that," he whispered to me. "Grieving yourself is one thing, grieving what you'll never see again is another." I pursed my lips. "It takes time, go at your own pace, focus on yourself, not..."

"The Akatsuki?" I finished for him. He nodded. "The thing is...when I do focus on myself, I just...feel this emptiness. Inoichi-san said that it may be because I fear projecting myself and replace..." He nodded.

"I see. I'm not an expert, but some people in Kiri do that too. They desperately compare everything to the past because what's in front of them is drastically different and they're scared because of it."

"...huh..." Itachi came back in the room.

"Terumi-san, I have prepared a futon for you." Dai grinned at him.

"Thanks Itachi, and don't call me 'Terumi-san', enough people do it now my sister is the Mizukage!" Itachi nodded.

"Alright." He joined us while Dai pulled a scroll from his bag.

Two bottles of Kirin Nectar appeared on the table and I immediately grabbed one to hug it to my chest possessively.

"As possessive as ever, I didn't even say it was for you."

"I love that, of course it's mine," I replied, trying to grab the other but Itachi was faster.

"Kirin Nectar? Alcohol?" I nodded.

"Yeah, actually it might be an alcohol you'll enjoy." He raised a brow at me. "Your sweet tooth will. The country was a mess for so long that alcohol consumption rose drastically. It rose so much that the drinking age lowered to thirteen because of the sales and how it was one of the main profit there was." Itachi frowned slightly at the young age. "Anyway, because of that many alcohols were developed but with a very sweet taste to suit young teenagers." I showed him the bottle. "It's the most famous one and the best one."

"I really like the 'Sea Wiskey' there is in the east," Dai said. I drew my nose back.

"That's salty." He shrugged.

"Blame it on the chakra that influences the growth of plants."

"Anyway, Kirin Nectar is made of the Kirin fruit that grows on an island in the south of the country, but with alcohol. There is a kid-friendly version, but the alcohol makes the flavor stand out even more." I opened my bottle and gave it to him. "Here, smell this while I grab glasses."

As expected, when the three of us had the dark orange beverage in front of us, Itachi was more than interested. He took a sip under Dai's and I's gaze. He lowered his glass, staring at the drink while tasting it.

"So?" Dai inquired. Itachi nodded, taking the bottle.

"It's mine." Dai laughed and I smiled.

"I brought a bottle just for Akiko-san from Aneki, the rest is ours!"

As the bottles were getting emptied and the food Itachi brought were eaten, memories and stories were exchanged. Eventually, Mangetsu was mentioned and we shared fond and fun memories we each had of him, and Suigetsu when we were younger. Itachi shared some about his own genin team, that he never talked about, especially a mission with ninja cats.

"Dai."

"Yeah?"

"What do you think you're doing with that?" He looked at the pill in the plastic bag in his hand.

"More like, what are we doing with that?" I shook my head and tried to pry the bag from his hand. "Now Uzu lis..."

"No, don't mess with Itachi's medication he needs it!"

"I'm sure he does and if I'm wrong I'll gladly give it back."

"Dai..."

"I just need a lab! Well, not even a lab just like a microscope, I have seals already to know the composition..."

"You don't need to, specialists have made that!" I grabbed the bag.

"Specialists?" I nodded. "Last night Itachi said he had his surgery more than a year ago, right?" I nodded. "Then I really think there's something wrong with the medicine."

"Why?"

"The color." I looked at it. It was red.

"What about it?"

"I'll gladly explain once I can study it, but it could potentially destroy his career if what I think is true." Worry rose in me in a second.

"What?"

"Just...just help me out please?" I blinked and nodded.

"I think we need Sakura."

We ran around the village to find her, just to end up in front of her door. She was surprised to see us both.

"It seems important," she guessed from our presence.

"Do you have the clearance to run a few tests of a medicine?"

"Of course," she replied, almost smugly. "What for?" We exchanged a look. "Damn, am I going to regret it?"

"I have no idea," I replied honestly.

"Best case scenario, I'm just paranoid. Worst case scenario...well..." From his tone, Sakura knew it was actually a serious matter.

"Let me get my shoes."

Sakura and Dai talked about medic stuff and I was walking close behind, not understanding a thing. Once we were in a lab with Sakura, she turned to us with her fists on her hips. Dai cleared his throat and gave me a few paper tags.

"Soundproofing seals?" I muttered.

"Uzu, get to work," my teammate told me with a stern stare. I rolled my eyes and placed them around the room. When I was done, Sakura was staring at the pill with a frown. "And you guys sent everything you got on the disease to Kiri, so I am pretty sure that so many months after his surgery, the medication should not be red." Sakura put the pill on the table and took her chin between her fingers with a frown.

"It shouldn't. Dai-san, you can proceed." He nodded and sat on the stool.

"Can someone explain to me in simple term what's going on?"

"Of course. You already know that the virus affecting Itachi-san attacked his chakra system, then latched to his heart and attacked his whole body?" I nodded, memories of Itachi throwing up blood in the middle of the night making me shiver. "Well, we removed the virus once it could be removed and then, while Itachi-san had to rest to heal normally, Tsunade-san also wanted a particular medicine for his body to heal faster and make his chakra system stronger overall." I nodded. Heal and improve, I could follow until there.

"Then the fact it's red..."

"Well, that medicine is composed of two plants. There is some Senju Flower roots to boost his chakra system in its entirety and Jufoku Flowers to give his body what it requires to get better faster."

"What it requ..."

"Don't try to get the details Uzu, you'll get confused," Dai interrupted me. Sakura nodded and I folded my arms.

"As I was saying, those two plants are basically what makes the medication. While the Jufoku Flowers have seven colors, the Senju Flower is blue, but the roots are red." I frowned. If she was mentioning the colors then…

"Someone messed up the dosage?" Sakura nodded.

"It is a possibility. Of course, Itachi-san has frequent check-ups in order for us to adjust his medication, but at this point, the pill should be a light purple." I widened my eyes.

"It's bright red."

"Meaning there must be way too much roots extract." Dread pooled in the pit of my stomach.

"But...but...what will happen then?" Sakura pursed her lips.

"As the roots are meant to boost his chakra system, it would make an overdose and Itachi-san's chakra system would be permanently damaged to the point of no return. It was already fragile to begin with, hence why Jufoku Flowers are so important."

"Then bye bye shinobi life," Dai said, standing to grab a few things.

"But...but how would it be possible? Tsunade-san took care of Itachi."

"She did, then she tasked me with overseeing the recovery."

"So you messed up?" She frowned and glared at me.

"No! I mean..." She clenched her fists. "Tsunade-sama and Shizune-san trained me, I know my job, I know what to do, there's no way..." She shook her head. "I need to get my hand on the prescription."

"Sure, where is it?"

"The Nara compound." I blinked. "They're specialized in making medicine, they made it."

"Why don't you go there while I'm finishing this?" Dai asked us. "Then we can compare results." I nodded and looked expectantly at the pinkette. She was frustrated and worried.

"Sakura, let's go." She jumped and looked at me with wide, emerald eyes. She pursed her lips and nodded.

She was quiet the entire way to the Nara Compound. It was smaller than the Uchiha or Hyuuga Compounds, but it was also a lot greener. I could almost see the forest from here. I followed Sakura to a two-story building.

"Haruno-san, hello," the receptionist greeted her when we entered the building.

"Nara-san, hello." She leaned on the desk. "I have a request."

"Of course, what is it?"

"I'd like a copy of each prescription given for Uchiha Itachi for the last year and a half." The receptionist blinked in confusion.

"Of course, is there something wrong with it?"

"Nothing, I just want to make sure of something."

"Follow me then."

We went to the archives. Well, maybe not the archives, but the room was to store every prescriptions they ever gotten.

"Here, Uchiha Itachi." Sakura accepted the file and I found myself sitting in front of her. I stared at her quietly.

I noticed how she started to breath faster at some point, her eyes frantically reading and re-reading the same things again and again.

"Sakura, tell me." She pursed her lips and took her head in her hands, shaking it. Pink locks of hair were firmly clenched between her fingers.

"I couldn't have...there's no way, such a mistake..." she muttered to herself in panic. "I..."

"Sakura." She raised her eyes to me.

"I...the dosage is all wrong. It's..." I stood up.

"Then get a copy of those and we're going back to the hospital." She was stunned, looking at the papers in disbelief. "Sakura!"

"...yes, sorry, I was..." She gulped and stood up. "Copies of these."

On the way back to Dai, I was the one leading. I shot Sakura a glance above my shoulder. She was livid. It made me grit my teeth.

"Haruno-san." I cringed at the haughty voice, like Sakura. In front of the lab where Dai was was Uchiha Manami, a deep frown on her face. The frown deepened when she saw me. "Uzumaki."

"No honorifics for me?" I mumbled to myself.

"Someone is using the lab claiming he has your authorization but there is no proof of that," Manami told Sakura coldly. Sakura frowned.

"I forgot to sign the paper but he does have my authorization. He's conducting tests on my request." She wrinkled her nose in disdain.

"I see." Wow, I felt like punching her right now.

Sorry Shisui, I have no idea what you saw in that bitch.

"Still, the full description of the tests should be given to the hos..."

"I know the rules Manami-senpai." Damn, you could cut the tension with a knife. If Manami didn't like me, it was nothing next to the sparks begging to just blow up between these two. "And don't worry, I will directly give them to Tsunade-sama." Manami took a deep breath, almost as if she was keeping herself from blowing up.

"What's going on?" I looked behind me to see Sasuke. He looked at Sakura, me, then frowned at Manami.

"Sasuke-kun," Sakura breathed in relief.

"Sasuke-sama," Manami hissed curtly.

"If you're done then I'd like to see my teammate and fiancee in private, unless you have more important business with them, in that case I'm sure my father would like to know them." She gritted her teeth.

"I'll leave." She left swiftly. Sasuke took her place in front of us.

"So, what was that about?"

"She's a bitch."

"I never saw you use the father card before." He shrugged.

"I don't use it often." He showed his arm to Sakura. The wrist seemed off. "Training accident, can you help me?" Sakura ran a hand on her face.

"Of course, follow me." We entered the lab.

Dai was nowhere to be seen.

"It's you girls!" His head popped up from behind the desk. "And Sasuke, hey."

"The hell is going on here?" the Uchiha asked us, Sakura's green chakra fixing his wrist.

"I..." I gave Dai the prescription and he frowned, reading through them, while Sakura was unable to explain. "I…"

"It matches." Dai ruffled his hair and I sighed. "The only thing causing the color is the dosage of roots in…"

"Hey, what is going on?" Sasuke repeated irritatingly.

"We can't discuss this with you Sasuke," Dai told him. He frowned.

"Why?"

"Medical confidentiality."

"W..."

"Sasuke-kun." He immediately looked down at his teammate. "I...we need to see your brother."

"Itachi?" She nodded and he pursed his lips, unsure of what was going on. "There's something wrong with him?"

"That's what they're going to check Sasuke," I said. He kept staring at Sakura. "Let's go to my place, Itachi should be there."

His face when the four of us knocked on his bedroom door was priceless.

"The living-room would be a better place to talk whatever is happening to all of you," he stated calmly, closing his door behind him.

He sat down on the couch, Sasuke sitting down next to him. Dai had his hands in his pockets in front of them. Sakura was on edge, standing in front of them. I was leaning against the wall.

"So, what's going on?"

"Itachi, what we're going to tell you is about your health situation. Is it okay if Sasuke is here as well?" Dai asked him in his doctor voice.

"You can talk in front of him," Itachi assured him sternly.

"Fine. Your medication, you need to stop taking it." Itachi frowned and looked at Sakura.

"Why?"

"The dosage is all wrong, it's going to give your chakra system an overdose, irreversible damages and you say goodbye to your career," Dai continued. While Sasuke widened his eyes in shock, Itachi just stared at Sakura.

She clenched her fists tightly.

"I'm...I'm sorry...I was sure...no, I am sure I didn't make a mistake on the prescriptions, the dosage is too off for me not to notice, I...I don't know what happened Itachi-san...I'm sorry!" Itachi averted his eyes to the floor, but I didn't miss Sasuke's slight twitch at this brows. "Akane and I checked them, the Nara clan made the medication and it was my handwriting and signature on them, I just...I don't understand what happened...I'm sorry, because of me..."

"The leakage..." I whispered, but they all heard it. "Sorry, it's just that Itachi's seal was leaking near his heart when I arrived in Konoha. I just fixed it thinking it was nothing but...we should have looked deeper into it."

"Anyway Itachi, you need a full check-up now." Itachi got up.

"Sakura." She raised her head to him. "Mistakes happen, just be sure it doesn't happen again." I knew the girl felt guilty and probably wanted to cry in guilt and shame. It was not just a patient but Sasuke's brother. "Work on a new medicine. There's no need for anyone else to know about this."

"Manami made it clear the hospital needed the tests' results," I informed him, looking at him from the corner of my eyes. "She was pretty adamant about it. Sakura said she would give them directly to the Hokage."

"No need."

"But..." Sakura tried to say but Itachi interrupted her with a cold glance. I frowned at that and noticed Sasuke gritting his teeth.

"No need, if anything you can give them to Nara Shikaku if you want." She was taken back.

"Alright. I'm sorry Itachi-san, Sasuke-kun, I'll...I'll see myself out." She almost ran away from the apartment.

I shot Itachi a dirty glare when I went after Sakura but he ignored me. However, once outside I grabbed my left arm. It didn't hurt or burn, but I just felt the power in it activating briefly, on its own.

"Hey, did you feel that?"

"Yes," Tobirama replied. "It's the first time it happened."

"It's different from before," Minato added in a serious tone. "Finish what you were doing and investigate. Something...happened."

Once they were the only two in the room, Itachi sighed deeply. He looked at his brother, glaring daggers at him.

"What?"

"Did you have to treat Sakura like that?" Sasuke growled protectively at him. "Do you seriously think she would make a mis..."

"Of course not, it wasn't her." He sighed.

His brother was protective of his team, no matter how much he tried to deny it.

"I've had her as my doctor for a while now, she's a perfectionist. There's no way she would have make such a mistake, but I'm sure she'll be even better now."

"Nii-san, someone is clearly trying to sabotage you and trying to frame Sakura, don't pretend you believe her guilty as well!"

"I'll apologize to her if you care so much about it, but not now." Sasuke frowned. "You've figured it out as well, didn't you?"

"How the messed up prescriptions had Sakura's handwriting and signature? Of course. It's someone from the clan." Itachi nodded. "Trying to sabotage the heir is a serious thing. Sakura…"

"I can't say if she's framed because she's your teammate or because she's the Godaime's apprentice." The oldest sat down.

"If it's about the Hokage, then it would spark other tensions between the clan and the village, but me?"

"Discord between us, and past actions would make it believable." Sasuke pursed his lips.

"Still…I thought they were after Father."

"We're his sons and heirs, of course we would be targets, and I'm still the easiest one because of my condition. If they had succeeded and destroyed my future as a shinobi, then I wouldn't have been able to take over the clan and or I would have been killed, or I would have been discarded."

"Then it would impact Father's credibility as a leader," Sasuke finished for him. "Remind me why we can't take that Manami and force her to talk already? Because it's obvious it was her, I mean the way she was looking at the girls and talking to them..."

"We can't do that without proofs she's involved Sasuke," Itachi reminded him gently. "And anyway, Shisui is blocking us."

"Is he that blind?"

"I don't know. I tried talking to him but he brushed me aside in just a few words. He thinks she's the woman of his life."

"...maybe Akane could talk to him. From what she told me, he put her back in her place when she came to apologize." Itachi pursed his lips.

"The thing is, because of their past together, I doubt Akane would just tell Shisui his girlfriend is bad news. The only thing she did was with Naruto in mind. I told you not to involve her anyway."

"Well I know, but she clearly doesn't like Manami and from the way she spoke to Sakura I just thought...Akane is my fiancee, there's a chance she'll be targeted as well. We should tell her." The cold glare his brother shot him made him clench his fists. "I get you want to protect her, I want to protect her as well but she'll know at some point, it's better to tell her ourselves than explain when an Uchiha tries to kill her in her sleep!"

"We can handle the situation before it turns to this."

"Something is not right."

"What do you mean?" The man looked around.

"It feels extremely familiar but not at the same time."

"Allow me to explain." They looked at the speaking turtle. "Urashiki-sama entered temporal coordinate, however you exited too soon."

"No, even if we didn't go as far as he had planned, something still feels off here."

"Indeed, there is. It is not the Konoha from your past, it no longer is."

"What do you mean it's not the Konoha from the past?" the preteen asked. "How can it not be?"

"This timeline was the same as yours up until nine years ago. Someone who was supposed to die did not die and a parallel timeline to yours was created."

"Nine years ago?" The kid looked at the man, who was frowning deeply.

"Who survived?"

"Someone named Uchiha Shisui." The man widened his eye.

"Heh? Shisui? Isn't that the guy Shisui-nii is named after, right Sasuke-san?" Sasuke took off. "Hey wait for me!"

He followed him for a few minutes, struggling because of the man's speed. However, he almost bumped into him once they reached their destination.

"That's..." Sasuke was livid.

"What is it, people? Hey, they all have the same fan as you, Sakura-oba-san and Sarada have! Wait, how's that possible?"

"Because the Uchiha clan somehow...still exists here Boruto." Boruto raised his brows.

"How? I thought apart from you, the Uchiha clan disappeared when you and Dad were kids."

"It did," Sasuke replied through gritted teeth.

He gulped when he spotted a familiar woman walking down the street, a painful knot of envy and sadness in his stomach.

It was his mother. His alive mother.

Shisui never died here then? How? What happened exactly?

And why his death in particular?

Where had they landed?

"Someone's coming," he told Boruto before they left.

A second later, Akane landed where they were standing. She took her chin between her fingers with a thoughtful look on her face.

"Weird, I was sure I felt two weird chakra right here..." she muttered to herself. After a few seconds, she frowned. "Shut up Tobirama, of course I am at the right spot!"
