Tsunade dropped the letter on her desk when five out of the six members of Team Kakashi arrived. She locked eyes with Kakashi and he understood why they were there.

"Do you have a mission for us Tsunade-sama?" Sakura asked her.

"A-rank." Naruto should have been happy for this. He furrowed his brows instead, his hands in his pockets. "Last week, Hyuuga Hinata, Hyuuga Neji, Nara Shikamaru and Uzumaki Akane left on an A-rank mission to deal with Uzumaki Ushio at an old Uzumaki location in the Land of Water. I just received word from the Mizukage. They need back-up."

"Do you have more details?" Yamato asked her, noticing the distant look in his senpai's eye.

"Neji, Hinata and Shikamaru are in Kiri."

"And nee-chan?" Tsunade looked down, taking the letter in her hand.

"I don't have the details. They were all wounded and transported to Kiri immediately, I don't think the Mizukage waited for details before sending this letter." She shot Naruto a pointed look. "Be ready for the worst." Naruto gritted his teeth.

"When do we leave?" Sai asked her.

"Tomorrow at dawn. They went to the Eien Hansen through Uzushio." She looked at Kakashi. "You're team leader for obvious reason, you're the only one who was there that day." Everyone looked at Kakashi, who sighed deeply.

"That day?" Sakura wondered.

"The day Fubuki died in that place." Naruto widened his eyes. "I'll explain on the way."

"Warn Akiko before leaving." Kakashi nodded. "Dismissed."

Once out, Sakura and Naruto exchanged a look before heading for the hospital. Sure, Sasuke was still resting after his surgery, but he'd give them hell later on if they didn't tell him about Akane.

"Yo Sasuke! Can we come in!?" There was a growl coming from the room.

Sai was already there though.

"Sai?" Sakura said in shock.

"So this moron went missing on her mission and you're sent to help?" Sasuke asked them back.

"Sorry, you were a little too slow," Sai apologized with a smile. Sasuke jumped on his feet.

"Sasuke-kun, you can't get up yet!" He pointed his finger at her, then his eyes. Sakura widened hers. "Did you hear what I said!?"

"I did. Please do the same for Itachi as well."

"But...but…" Naruto leaned toward her.

"Sakura-chan, you know like me you won't make him change his mind." The pinkette pursed her lips and sighed.

"One day, I will die and it will be surrounded by idiots." Still, she approached Sasuke, her hand glowing green. "What I'm gonna do might use some of your own chakra." The Uchiha nodded.

The cloth covering his eyes came off quickly. He blinked, slowly getting used to the light, then frowned at Naruto.

"It's really very orange huh…" Naruto glared at him.

"I guess we have to tell Itachi-san too now?" Sakura mumbled under her breath.

"When do you leave?"

"Tomorrow at dawn," Sai informed him.

"We'll be there," Sasuke said.

"So you're ignoring the only medic now huh…" Sakura mumbled again, walking toward the door. Naruto grinned sheepishly at her and patted her on the back.

Once they were out, Sasuke activated his sharingan. Nothing out of ordinary. Then he activated his Mangekyou. No pain, no immediate tiredness, no soreness in his eyes. He went to a mirror and looked at himself. Instead of the pupil, he had a similar black shuriken-pattern in his iris, only straighter.

"How do you feel Itachi-nii?" Itachi blinked and rubbed his eyes quietly. He activated his sharingan. Nothing wrong. He activated his Mangekyou, now Eternal Mangekyou. Instead of a three-bladed shuriken pattern, it was a six-bladed black shuriken over a red iris. Around the pupil was a six-pointed red star.

"Pretty good," he replied quietly, his eyes turning back to their onyx color. "So Akane tried to deal with her father but failed?" Naruto looked grimly at his shoes.

"Apparently. Sasuke-kun said you'd both be with us tomorrow?" Itachi nodded. "Tsunade-sama…"

"We'll handle the consequences." His brother's teammate left.

Itachi looked outside.

He probably should have showed he was awake when she came after all. She said she had fallen in love with him all over again and that she didn't regret it. He'd make her say that to his face after getting her back and telling her how stupid she was for…

It did sound like goodbyes.

She was in love with him though.

He clenched his shirt at his heart, a smile on his face. She was in love with him. He knew he wasn't imagining things.

He had to bring her back now.

The next morning, as Team Kakashi was at the gate, Itachi and Sasuke were already outside, Shadow Clones in their place at the hospital. They showed themselves once far enough from Konoha.

"You're ready as well?" Kakashi asked them without looking.

"Yes," they replied in sync.

"Alright, let's go."

They traveled in silence. They reached the shore of Uzushio in silence and Naruto gulped at the sight of the ruins.

"Move." He raised his head and looked at Sasuke on his right. Sai was on his left while Sakura was behind, her hands on his shoulders.

"I know, I know." They followed Kakashi through the remains of Uzushio until they reached four caves.

Kakashi approached one, his finger tapping the stone under the 'lock'. It was a seal, from the look of it from Jiraya.

"Naruto, put your blood on the seal," Sasuke told him.

"Heh? Why?"

"The seal won't let us in unless Uzumaki blood opens it."

"You've been here before Sasuke?" Yamato asked him.

"Yeah, after I tried to defect Akane brought me here. We used the device in there to leave because Kabuto was too close." He pursed his lips. "And she drew a seal on my hand with her blood to allow me in, like what happened on the mission for Haku."

"Let's do that." From the corner of his eye, Itachi, caught a glimpse of red. He crouched and removed an object from under a broken rock.

It was an old doll. The head was half untwisted from the neck and the face had darkened with time.

"Let me see," Kakashi said in a hurry, yanking the doll from his grasp. Itachi looked at him, unfazed.

"Kakashi-san?"

"It...was Akane's." Itachi blinked as the others were receiving the seal from Sasuke and Naruto. "Fubuki said she must have had it with her." Kakashi took a shaky breath. "Damn it."

If that place brought so much bad memories for Kakashi, they better hurry.

"They're here," Ushio stated, feeling a disturbance in the mist. "There are seven people, two Uchihas, Kakashi and our target."

"As precise as usual Ushio-san," Kisame complimented it, putting Samehada on his shoulder. He shot the kid a look.

She was sitting against the tree, her head tilted on her right shoulder. She would have a nasty bruise on her thigh with how hard he kicked it during their earlier fight. He had to admit though that Ushio-san's fuinjutsu would never cease to amaze and scare him.

The kid had hollow eyes, they were empty as if she had been turned off. On her forehead was a seal. It was a simple vertical black wave.

Said seal had been waiting to be activated for almost twenty years though.

The kid had been at the mercy of a seal without even knowing, without her or anyone even noticing.

The Uzumaki clan was scary.

Ushio crouched next to his daughter and grabbed her chin firmly to turn her head toward him.

"Akane, bad people arrived to get rid of us. Do you know what this means?" She nodded slowly.

"I have to protect Dad," she said in an empty voice. Ushio grinned at her.

"That's my girl." She stood up and walked next to him.

The kid never was his biggest fan, with good reason, but he'd rather be threatened and looked at with hatred than the current empty gaze she had.

"Kisame, they're not here to fight us immediately, they're most likely here to check on her state. Kiri is still surrounding us anyway, and they care about Akane, if it gets too bad or she becomes too much of a threat to be sparred, they'll flee."

"So we play with them?"

"That, get a feel on the overall team but most of all, tell me how much Naruto is angry and how much I can lure him in the trap. Akane, you obey Kisame. I'll leave you two to it."

"Yes Dad." They walked away in the mist.

Away from them, Naruto shivered.

"It's chilly!"

"We're not at our advantage," Kakashi stated, sharingan visible. The mist was very dense, they barely could see five meters in front of them.

It was the perfect playground for any Mist shinobi though.

"Huh?" They turned to Sakura, who wiped blood from the cut on her cheek. "What?"

"We're under attack!" Sasuke screamed, the Sharingan spinning in his eyes. "That's…"

Other needles, formed from the mist, came at them at high speed. They dodged them or deflected them, until a white form arrived toward them, poking from the ground.

"Shit!" Naruto cursed, using his kunai to stop the thing. He started to move back but the Uchiha siblings were quick to help him, Itachi with a kunai of his own and Sasuke with his new sword, Kusanagi.

Yet, the needles never stopped. Yamato made a wood structure around them to protect them. Naruto jumped on it.

"Fuuton: Passing Typhoon!" A powerful gush of wind blew in the area. As the mist disappeared, the thing attacking Sasuke and Itachi did as well.

"Samehada," Kakashi stated as Kisame came out of the ground and jumped far from them.

Sai was quick to draw two tigers that attacked, making a way for Sasuke's chidori and Naruto's rasengan. However, while Kisame easily got rid of Sai's attack, Naruto's and Sasuke's replica appeared. The two shared a knowing look and met their replicas before landing back in the group.

Kakashi turned his head toward Sakura, at the back and observing for now. In the blink of an eye, a sword arrived toward Sakura. The medic jumped back but a woman appeared at the sword, took it and ran at her.

"Doton: Earth-Style Wall!" A wall grew out of the ground and stopped the sword.

Instead, she put her hand on the wall and blew it up with an explosive seal. Kakashi had already grabbed Sakura and put her out of harm's way.

She was shocked at what just happened and how quickly it had happened. Itachi now had a kunai at her throat, holding her arms in her back, careful not to have contact with her hands.

"Akane?" he called her in a somber tone. Everyone turned their eyes to them, but she had her hands opened toward Itachi. The Uchiha looked down with his sharingan and moved away when he noticed the explosive seals on the ice she had just created out of the humidity of the air.

It blew up. He came out of the smoke with a slight burn on his arm. Akane came out of it from the other side and turned around.

"Nee-chan!" Naruto yelled. He started to run to her but stopped once next to Itachi. "Nee...-chan?"

Her eyes were devoid of any life and there was...a seal on her forehead.

"She won't answer you fox brat," Kisame said with a grin. "Ushio-san put a seal on her twenty years ago and activated it. Her consciousness is sealed up real good, she obeys us." Naruto gritted his teeth in anger. "She sees you as opponents right now."

"Nee-chan, can you hear me!?" Itachi put his hand on Naruto's shoulder, his eyes not leaving Akane. The whole team regrouped.

"Naruto, I know it's hard but we have to fight back," he told the blond.

"But we'll have to go seriously!"

"I know."

"Itachi." He looked at Yamato. "Senpai and you are going to take care of Kisame and try to make him talk. We'll take care of Akane." He nodded and went with Kakashi.

Kisame grinned at them, Itachi frowning slightly. He could have gotten along with that man?

Really? It was hard to believe.

"What is Ushio planning?" Kakashi asked curtly. Kisame kept grinning, his sword getting rid of its bandages itself.

They had never seen Samehada in its entirety. The mouth at the tip was not expected.

"Who knows, Ushio-san's always had an agenda of his own, even back in the village."

Akane was running away from her partner, dodging the attacks thrown her way. She stopped once far enough and kicked a clone in the guts. Many Naruto clones appeared and attacked her. She countered it by making three ice clones. The smoke covered the field.

"Shannaro!" Sakura jumped from Sai's bird, fist filled with chakra. A thick ice wall appeared between her and the field. She smashed her fist in the ice, breaking it and jumped back on the ink bird with a smirk.

Between shards of shattered ice, ink birds bringing explosive tags with them dived to the ground.

They blew up.

After a few seconds, Akane emerged from it and widened her eyes when she noticed pillars of wood coming from the ground. She started dodging them but they followed her, Naruto and Sasuke using them to try to reach her. She clenched her teeth and threw Nuibari in an empty pillar, directly connected to Yamato. She teleported to it and jumped on the pillar, creating a thin layer of ice under her feet.

Yamato widened his eyes when she was sliding toward him. He broke off the wood, his arm going back to normal but her knee was already under his chin.

Sasuke tried to use Amaterasu to make her move back but clenched his eye instead, a sharp burn behind it as it went back to normal.

"Sasuke, behind you!" The Uchiha tensed at the presence appearing behind him out of thin air.

Right, he had a marker on his scalp. Dammit Akane.

The kunai was coming fast toward his neck. He twitched when he recognized the Fourth's kunai. Before it could reach him, a giant, red hand punched her and sent her flying meters away from them. His brother was next to him in the blink of an eye, Kakashi helping Yamato up whereas Kisame was with Akane. She got up, her right leg shaking, like her right arm.

Yet, her face remained void of any emotion.

"There's something wrong," Yamato stated.

"How so?"

"I don't kn…"

Rain started to fall. Kisame raised his head and made a hand sign.

"Kirisame," he muttered under his breath. "Kid, we're leaving." She nodded and put her hand on his arm before vanishing.

Four Mist shinobi appeared before them.

"You're okay?" Dai asked them immediately.

"Nee-chan, we…" Sakura held Naruto back and shook his head. "But…"

"They regrouped," Naoto stated sternly. "Knowing Ushio-san, he knew we were around and ready to intervene if it became too much. Kisame and Akane were just testing the waters with you guys."

"That would explain it," Yamato said to himself.

"What do you mean?" Sai asked him.

"Akane could have used the Hiraishin to end this quickly but she barely used it. Hoshigaki Kisame wasn't serious either."

"Let's go back to Kiri," Naoto announced. "We need a plan of action, and the others will fill you in on what happened on their mission."

On the way back, Sasuke kept thinking about the kunai. Why would Akane use this kunai if her consciousness was really sealed? Had they really been testing them? He did notice that the kunoichi was far from going a hundred percent against them. She had not tried to lower the temperature to kill them with the cold. She didn't use the Hiraishin on him earlier. Her use of Fuinjutsu had been very limited, like her Suiton. She could have entirely changed the field if she had wanted to.

He frowned. Maybe...she could be possessed by the souls in her seal. While her consciousness was sealed, they probably could do something.

Maybe they had not been fighting Akane after all, but a Hokage?

"Sasuke." He looked at his brother, his thoughts interrupted. Itachi had a frown on his face. "Was...someone trying to counter the seal from the inside?" he whispered to his brother, careful that no one listened to them. Sasuke hid his surprise.

He was aware his brother re-read everything Akane had written down regarding her seal before leaving. She had left several things in her rooms, things that they would get upon her death. It had been done recently and angered his brother, even if he had hidden it.

"I think so," he whispered back.

Itachi remained silent. Akane made him promise to kill her if she became a threat, to go for the easy way instead of looking for another solution. She had become a threat. Itachi looked down at his fist.

He could still feel her bones breaking under his Susanoo.

He didn't want to break any promise he made to her. She had seemed desperate back then. But could he kill her? Could he bring himself to do it? He knew why she chose him for the task but…

It was smart but cruel.

If he killed her now anyway, she...would be trapped forever. Not that he wanted her to die, but the moment it happened he at least wanted her to finally rest.

However, for having been her training partner for months, he knew they had to go at her with the intention to kill.

"Any progress?"

"Ushio's as good as ever," Minato muttered, sitting next to Akane. She was unconscious, seals all over her body.

"Tobirama, I'm impressed with how well you imitated her fighting style!" Hashirama praised his brother. Tobirama folded his arms.

"I've observed for a while, and she's as good as me with the Water Release. She uses several of my techniques after all." He looked down at Akane. "Any progress?" The Fourth sighed.

"I'm trying to localize the cracks but her mind is fragile already, if I do it recklessly or too fast I'll damage it."

"That man, Ushio, he is talented," Hashirama said before I sighing. "It's a shame, Mito told me about her brother but we lost sight of each other once Konoha really started blooming. It's heartbreaking to see how he turned out."

"Did no one have her tested when you got back to Konoha?" Minato shook his head.

"She was too shocked, neither me nor Kushina wanted to put her through something else. I never thought Ushio would place a puppet seal on her either." He gritted his teeth. "It's my fault."

"You may have some of the blame, but the rest is on him." Tobirama sat down. "I used your special kunai against the Uchiha she trained, he must have guessed it was one of us by now."

"If there's another fight I can do it!" Hashirama suggested with a grin.

"You're the last in line anija, you would mess up with her fighting style." The Shodai sulked at this. "Taking over her body for the whole fight was more exhausting than I thought, and more complicated too. This seal is hindering us to some extent."

In the real world, Akane slumped against a tree, her body shaking in pain. Ushio crouched next to her and inspected her wounds, Kisame describing the fight.

She had a broken arm and a cracked leg.

"Stasis seals it is then," he mumbled, drawing the seals on her. It would envelop the wounds, sealing them in order for them not to get worst. They wouldn't get better either. They were sealed in time.

Like he had been.

"If it wasn't for Uchiha Itachi, the kid would have followed."

"Understandable. Naruto tends to follow his instincts and feelings if someone hit too close to home." A vicious grin made its way on the Uzumaki's face. "Meaning I was right and Akane is the best Kyuubi bait."

"Kisame-senpai, Ushio-senpai!" They turned around to see Tobi running toward them, Sasori grudgingly following. The Suna-nin shot Akane a quick look, smirking at her state.

Tobi moved in front of her and bent toward her at her lack of reaction. Ushio instinctively pulled him away.

"What are you doing here?" Kisame asked them.

"Leader-sama asked us to come and join you!" Ushio raised a brow.

"Then you'll keep anyone but Naruto's team at bay." Ushio smiled falsely at Tobi. "What a good kohai you are." The red glow in the hole of the orange mask did not scare him.

He would not let Obito ruin his plans.

"I'm guessing you've seen her?" Shikamaru greeted them as they entered the hospital room. He was sitting in his bed. Neji's was next to his, the Hyuuga sitting of it with bandages on his chest and left arm. Then, Hinata was in the bed in front of them, quiet and a bruise on her cheek.

"Dai-san," Sakura told the medic.

"The worst has been healed already. Hinata got a kick in the jaw and it broke it but we fixed it, she just has a nasty bruise. Shikamaru just had a sprained ankle. Neji got a slash on the chest and some chakra burns from hijacking Uzu's seal." He went in front of the group. "However, everyone is having a check-up."

"We don't have ti…" Naruto started but Kakashi put his arm around his neck, his hand on his mouth.

"We would appreciate that." Dai nodded and looked at Sakura.

"You have enough energy to be the last one? It's always better if the medic of the team is able to have them do the check-up."

"Of course."

Once the few wounds had been taken care of, everyone gathered in the room where Akane's team, now Neji's team, was.

"What happened?" Kakashi asked them.

"I'm going to tell you," Neji replied.

"Everybody is in one piece?" There was a general growl because of the landing. "Good enough. See that big tower on the island?"

"That's a big weapon," Shikamaru noted.

"Yeah, it is." Akane walked toward a stone pillar and patted it. She wiped some dirt and weed from it, old fuin symbols now visible. "It's sealed at four different places around the lake, at a pillar." She knelt on the ground. "Neji, please, see if there is a seal." He nodded.

"Byakugan!" He looked around, veins bulging around his eyes. "Behind the pillar, two meters from it." They followed his lead.

The seal was invisible. Akane opened her hand toward the ground, a blue wave of chakra escaping from it. A seal glowed blue on the ground before disappearing.

"Before leaving, the Fourth Hokage sealed the Tower himself with Uzumaki Kushina's help. The simple fact my father left his jail means one of the seals was broken or altered."

"Does it mean it can be used?" Hinata asked her.

"The weapon in the tower itself has been sealed as well, right now I am talking about the entrance. My father knows his fuinjutsu, he could leave and probably can go back inside as he wishes with only a small opening, but it's not our case. Right now, we need to find which seal was touched. Neji, you're with me. Hinata, with Shikamaru, but before, find the other ones for us." As she looked for it, Akane deactivated the invisibility seal. The seal sealing the entrance appeared. Fuin symbols were surrounded by three other formulas on the right, left and below. Above was another formula going to the pillar and mixing with the writing on it.

"I am going to use the Tower as a landmark." Akane got up. "The pillars are respectively at three o'clock, nine o'clock and twelve o'clock."

"Alright. Neji, you and I are taking care of nine and twelve. We're leaving three to you guys." They all nodded. "This seal was not altered or touched. Remember its look, who knows if the one who broke my father out didn't conceal the seal again after they did their job."

"We should use these," Neji suggested, showing them radios. They equipped themselves and adjusted them.

"Dispersion!"

They found the first seal quickly. It was untouched. Then, they reached the other one. On one side you could see the lake. On the other side, you could see the sea.

"So you got my message!?" Akane grabbed her club and her back was against Neji's. "Ah, you're with a Hyuuga this time?" He appeared in front of them.

"Kisame," she whispered to Neji before stepping toward her father. "I like to change every once in a while." Ushio laughed.

"I see, I see. My daughter is apparently hard to please!" He eyed her weapon. "I don't think I've commented last time, but bold choice of weapon."

"I'm aware," she replied dryly. "What's your deal Dad this time?" His grin turned carnivorous.

"Don't you already know darling?" She visibly twitched at that.

They both started fighting, water against water and Neji used Eight Trigrams Vacuum Palms at Kisame. He saw him cut through the attack and run at him.

Hoshigaki Kisame was physically speaking very strong and Samehada could absorb chakra, replenishing its owner's already big reserves. It would be a tough fight.

With his Byakugan, he saw Akane and her father clashing, palm against palm much like for the Gentle Fist, but they both used Explosive Seals instead. It blew up, Neji moving back to dodge the blow and Akane came out of the smoke. Kisame was there in an instant and kicked her in the thigh.

"Fuck!" she cursed in pain as Neji was behind the shark man, ready to strike.

"Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms!" He touched two, then four, then was about to hit eight when chains appeared from the ground. Neji jumped back as Kisame used Samehada to support himself.

"Looks like I underestimated him." Behind, Akane was in a taijutsu fight against Ushio, who suddenly grabbed her head. He raised two fingers and Akane dropped her weapon. "Heh, it took more time than you thought."

"I didn't think she moved that well," Ushio admitted, panting. The scenery behind him was destroyed, several trees damaged and holes in the ground. "Go." Kisame left.

"Kisame's coming to you," Neji said in his radio.

He blinked at Nuibari in front of him and grabbed it. Akane teleported to it, yanked him from his grip and slashed him. The Hyuuga jumped back just in time to avoid a fatal injury, even if blood was pouring from his wound.

Akane had a seal on her forehead, and from the grin on Ushio's face, she no was longer an ally.

Just his luck. He started trading blows with her, but she dodged. She was his clan Seal Master, she knew how to fight the Byakugan.

He dodged her hand and kicked her behind her knee, planning on blocking all of her tenketsu. She teleported away before he could.

"Neji, we need to retreat!" Shikamaru yelled in his ear. "I hate to say it, but Hinata and I have no chance against Hoshigaku Kisame! What's going on on your side!?" He gritted his teeth, the small attention he gave Shikamaru giving Akane the chance to teleport to him.

She had left a marker before. She smashed her palm on his chest.

"Chakra Suppressing Seal," she stated in an empty voice. He gritted his teeth once again before running away.

Dammit.

Akane had warned them and it did come to the worst case scenario possible.

Dammit.

They needed to retreat asap.

"Once we regrouped, Shikamaru made a plan for us to leave and I broke my seal when we had to face Kisame who was running after us," Neji finished.

"When was it?"

"Four days ago." Kakashi nodded.

"That's good."

"How is that good?" Naruto asked him with wide, angry eyes.

"It means she's being fed and basically taken care of," Itachi explained to him, his face blank but eyes cold. "If Ushio wanted to just use the Eien Hansen, he would have done so already, but Akane is still under his control to fight like a puppet."

"Basically, he wants something," Sakura summed up. "We can assume they won't hurt Akane just yet." A spark appeared in Naruto's blue eyes.

"Good, then we can plan to get nee-chan back! We just need to break her seal, right?"

"Breaking a seal is not that simple Naruto," Sai told him. "The slightest wrong move and you can make irreversible damage to the person."

"Thanks, I'm aware already." Sasuke's eyes went to Hinata in a flash.

"Someone can." They all followed his gaze to look at Hinata. "Hinata, you've been helping Akane in removing the Side Branch's seals, it was on the brain."

"Yosh Hinata, you're totally the person for the job!" Hinata blushed at Naruto's compliment.

"You should talk about this tomorrow," Dai told them. "Rest for today. Hatake-san, I'll take you to my sister so you can report to her." The jounin nodded. "Sasuke, take them to Uzu's place. Karin's been taking care of it since Haku's in the hospital, she should be here. If you need anything, you know where to find people." Sasuke nodded as Dai and Kakashi left.

"Let's get some rest," Yamato stated, which made the new group leave. He looked at Hinata, Neji and Shikamaru. "You are staying here?"

"We're still in observation," Neji told him. He shot Shikamaru a look, already back in bed. "Not Shikamaru, but he doesn't want to leave."

"Alright, we'll see you tomorrow."
