Little Rent-a-Girlfriend story I wrote for Halloween. Hope you enjoy. :)

Disclaimer: I don't own Rent-a-Girlfriend.

"Eeeeeeeek!"

A high-pitched shriek filled the messy college dormitory. It had been brought on by the horror movie which was playing in the TV. The spooky flick was proving to be too terrifying for the person who had decided to rent it for Halloween - much to the irritation of the beautiful girl who was watching it with him.

"Geez!" Chizuru groaned. "Would you cut that screaming out already?"

"Sorry!" Kazuya lowered his hands to uncover his fear-filled eyes, averting them towards the pretty young lady at his side. "It's just I didn't expect this movie to be so terrifying!"

"We're barely ten minutes into this flick!" Chizuru said. "How are we supposed to watch it together if you keep acting like a little girl?"

"I know." Kazuya stared down at the floor, embarrassed by his behaviour. I'm not that experienced with scary movies."

"Then why did you decide to rent one along with me tonight?"

Kazuya lifted his gaze to peer towards the aspiring actress who was sitting alongside him on his couch. With the lights in his apartment turned off, the flicker glow of the TV was all he had to use to see her. He was able to take in just how how beautiful Chizuru Ichinose truly was. He had no regrets about using his money to rent her out that evening - along with the movie he was finding too frightening to watch.

"Because … it's Halloween," he answered. "And I wanted to spend it with you, Mizuhara, just like a couple would."

Chizuru stared at her client. If she was moved by what he had just said about wanting to spend time with her, her face gave nothing away. Her expression remained stoic as she stared towards him with her hazel eyes before pressing a hand to her chest as she let off a soft sigh.

"Dummy…" she muttered. "I don't see how you could be scared of this movie. The effects aren't convincing at all. For example, that zombie is most definitely an actor in a costume…"

Kazuya slumped in his chair as Chizuru proceeded to explain how the movie was able to pull off creating such creatures for the screen. He should have known that being a veteran of stage, she would see straight through the effects and be unconvinced by them.

She's so much smarter and braver than I am, Kazuya thought. I don't think there'll be one moment in the movie where Mizuhara will be scared and cuddle up to me for comfort. She's not like that at all…

"Those monsters are clearly animatronics," Chizuru went on, "and there ghost is definitely CG-"

"EEEP!"

Kazuya jumped as he suddenly let off a loud squeeze. Chizuru was startled as she turned towards her client. She frowned upon seeing that his eyes were wide with fear.

"Now what?!" she demanded. "I told you, these ghosts and monsters are not real! Would you stop freaking out over the movie!"

"It's not the movie!" Kazuya raised a trembling hand to point past Chizuru. "There's something outside the apartment!"

"Huh?!"

"I saw something!" Kazuya pointed towards the sliding doors that led to the outside balcony. "Something was peering in through her. It was watching the pair of us. There's something creepy and scary out there!"

"Don't be stupid!" Chizuru huffed. "Who the hell would be out on your balcony on this dark night, peering in on the two of us?!"

"I don't know!" Kazuya shivered. "But it was something definitely scary! Just like this movie-"

Kazura's petrified rambling was cut off as Chizuru grabbed a handful of pop corn from the bowl she was holding - before shoving it all into the boy's mouth to silence him.

"You rented me! You rented this movie! You wanted the two of us to watch it tonight!" So would you please just shut up and let us do that?!"

Kazuya slurred and groaned, his mouth stuffed with pop corn. He felt bad for irritating the beautiful rental girlfriend again. He wanted her to enjoy their time together as much as he did. The last thing he wanted was to cause her anymore problems.

I'm sure there was something lurking out there, the boy thought, glancing towards the sliding doors of his balcony. Maybe I was imagining it. Maybe this creepy movie is getting to me.

Kazuya was wrong.

There was indeed something lurking in the darkness outside his flat.

Something that was spying on him and Chizuru from the balcony.

Something that was most certainly to be afraid of.

"I hope you and your precious little Chizuru enjoy your date tonight, Kazuya. You should make the most of what time you have with that pretty while you can. Because in due time, I'm going to split the two of you up. You may as well give up trying to look like you moved on from me - because I have not moved on from you - and I am going to make your sad pathetic life hell…"

After uttering such a venomous promise the boy inside the apartment, a small eerie giggle escaped from the devious smiling face of none other than Mami.

"Happy Halloween, Kazu…"

Thanks for reading! Have a great Halloween and watch out for scary things like ghosts, monsters - and bitter evil ex-spouses! XD
