"I'll keep them occupied nee-chan." I nodded at him as he ran to the creatures, rasengans in the orange tails behind him. I took my nodachi and made ice pillars when Nagato would throw things, like rocks and trees, at Naruto to protect him.
My cousin didn't waste time to jump on them to reach the giant bird. With my nodachi, I sent a wave of chakra at Nagato, which froze the ground beneath it as it went. He absorbed it but I was in front of him, my Sage Mode enough for me to use the previous attack as a marker. I tried to slash him my sword, but he grew yet another arm and sacrificed it to get away.
Huh.
It looked like he still had some mobility issues.
I tried to attack again, using the Hiraishin but even with this, he could still see me through his creatures' eyes. Naruto couldn't do any Shadow Clones apparently and was dealing the bird and dog already.
I shot my left palm, well my glove, a quick look. I didn't want to use it already but…it would be radical.
I was thrown to the ground by a small boulder, my shoulder dislocating. I grunted and instead of going to Nagato, I went to the invisible chameleon I could feel. I put my left hand on it and released the Amaterasu Sasuke had provided me and made me promise not to waste at the first opportunity.
When I saw Nagato stretching out his arm, I teleported to it quicker than before and slashed it, the small black sphere forming blowing up on itself. I teleported behind him and grabbed him under his arms, managing to touch his eye. I put my Pupil Seal on him before being thrown like a ragdoll by a Shinra Tensei.
It must have made the bird and dog stopped for a second because Naruto gave them both a Rasenshuriken that made them disappear. He then blew Nagato in the lake.
"Nee-chan, freeze him!
"Gotcha." I did when he resurfaced. I teleported the ice block to us and unfroze his head. He started to move it around, trying to get free.
I walked behind him and summoned the Claw before thrusting my hand in his head. I found the kunai and removed it, Nagato starting to crack immediately.
"Thank you, sorry for the fight," he said softly. I unfroze him completely.
"You're back to yourself." I went back to Naruto's side.
"Yes." He looked at me. "You were Madara's protegee, I am sorry for…all of it."
"It's hard to see through your grief, I get it," I replied curtly, stopping my Sage Mode.
I could feel souls with it, but with it I could feel the barrier between their souls and this world, what was anchoring them here. It was easy to get in and destroy it but…I couldn't do that for everyone.
I left Naru to go back in the forest, leaving him say goodbye to Nagato. Somehow, between them, B-san being in Version 2, they had him immobilized. Mangetsu had his hands turned into water bubbles around Jiraya-san's missing hands, even his missing leg was not coming back, while B-san was covering him in ink. He seemed tired though.
Then, he was sealed.
"Are you okay?" I asked them.
"I should recover quickly," the jinchuriki replied, getting up. "And on your side?"
"Done." I shot Jiraya-san a look. "How did you get him?"
"A lot of overpowering him in size and using a lot of chakra." Indeed, our surroundings did not look good.
Naruto got there quickly. He glanced at his master.
"Nee-chan, can you do the same than for Nagato?" I nodded and activated the Claw. It was a little bit harder, but I removed the kunai.
"Gdfshsgsdcdsmph!" B-san unsealed him. "Thanks. Sorry for the fight, it was against my will."
"That's okay." He looked at Naru.
"What about Nagato?"
"He's gone." Jiraya-san smiled. Naru opened his mouth, but the words were stuck in his throat.
"Now Naruto, there's no need to get all emotional when you still have a lot of work to do." He sat on the ground and looked at him in pride. "I have nothing left to teach, dear student." I gulped and wanted to put my hand on Naru's shoulder or something, but I knew it was not my place to disrupt their moment.
I grabbed Mangetsu and moved aside.
"Why is your leg not coming back?"
"He did something, but it's useless to try to undo it. Keep your strengths." I looked down. "If you can send them back up there, you can do it for me too, right?" I nodded. He sighed. "It was fun while it lasted." I opened my mouth. "Hey, I died the way I died. You can't change it and the only culprit is the guy who waged this war. Shinobi don't live that long either, I knew what I was getting myself into. You can't save everyone, medic or on the frontline, so my death isn't on anyone Uzu." He looked at the Claw. "It's for the best I didn't see Suigetsu too…just, Dai and you, keep an eye on him for me?"
"What do you think we've been doing since you're gone?" I replied quietly. He grinned.
"Yeah, I know." I knelt.
"Thank you, for your help. We wouldn't have been able to do that without you."
"It's normal, I can't possibly let you dive into a potentially deadly situation on your own. It's kind of our thing." I chuckled.
Once the kunai destroyed, I stopped the Claw and watched his skin crack more and more.
"See you in many, many years." I nodded.
"We miss you Mangetsu." His eyes softened.
"Hey, promise me one thing Uzu." I nodded again. "Be the best Mizukage ever and don't feel guilty about being chosen as such. You proved yourself more than enough. Keep making the village a safe place for everyone, okay?" I gulped and high-fived him.
"Promised. I can't wait to hear you tell me what I did wrong once I'm up there." He laughed as his soul detached itself from the body, that fell backward.
"Good luck." He kept going up until I couldn't see him anymore.
I took a deep breath and got up. I casually went to a tree and with a quick movement, I hit my dislocated shoulder in the trunk to put it back in its socket. I used a healing seal to make sure it was good enough to use right away before turning around to look at the two jinchurikis.
"Nee-chan, you're exhausted!"
"Well yeah, I started fighting yesterday."
"No, I mean your legs are shaking dattebayo!" I raised a brow and looked down.
"Oh, yes. Using Sage Mode is taking more out of me than I expected I suppose."
"Do we stay on our path or should we go deal with the guy bringing dead people back?"
"I'll deal with Kabuto myself!"
"No need, Sasuke and Shisui are on their way." Naruto widened his eyes. "It's a war Naru, you can't do everything on your own. It was planned anyway, the moment Taka found him Sasuke and Shisui would go there. Killing him wouldn't stop the jutsu, so we need to…force him a little bit."
"You mean, Shisui of the Body Flicker is going?" I nodded at B-san. "He's known to have the best genjutsu among the Uchiha clan, it's a good idea."
"Is Shisui-nii really that famous?" I shrugged.
"It's hard to believe, I know." Naruto walked up to me and put me on his back. "What the…"
"Rest for now nee-chan, I'll carry you until the next fight." I pursed my lips.
"Okay, I guess I'd only slow you down right now." We took off. "Naru, you have clones around, right?"
"Yeah, I sent them to take care of the fake ones."
"Did you receive news from any of them?"
"Not yet." I leaned my chin on his shoulder. "Did you remember something?"
"Not really no…and anyway, even if I did, I can't say if it would be useful."
"Things changed about this war?" B-san asked me.
"Jiraya-san was never brought back before." Naruto looked at me from the corner of his eyes. "Nagato was with Itachi, but as Itachi is still alive this time around, they needed someone to help Nagato but…they never found Jiraya-san's body before so…"
"If he was deployed in the previous war, maybe they got something from him then. What does the summoner need for the Edo Tensei?"
"DNA. Blood works, but I guess a single strand of hair as well…maybe you're right B-san," I agreed quietly.
"Who else came back nee-chan?"
"Shimura Danzou, the guy who kidnapped you ten years ago." His hands tightened under my knees. "Uchiha Izuna, the one Shisui and I faced in Taki and Uchiha Madara's younger brother. Shisui fought him and then we sealed him with Fugaku-san and him." I looked down. "I fought Uzumaki Mito, the Shodai's wife and…your mom." He tensed.
"…he brought her back?"
"Yes, but she freed herself."
"How?"
"She was closed to killing me, and I didn't know what to do so I showed her the picture of us with Mom. It did something and pushed her to fight back the mind control. She freed herself." I sighed. "She was a pain to fight against though." He snickered at that.
"Well, she is my mom, of course she's strong!"
"She could have given me an advantage for letting her style my hair so much," I muttered under my breath. "Oh, and onii-chan is fighting with Kakashi. He released him from Kabuto's control."
"…Did you see him?"
"No, and I didn't think it would be a good idea. Seeing Aunty and Mangetsu…it was a lot already, I'm not sure if I'd handle Fubuki as well." He was quiet for a few seconds.
"Nee-chan, you can rest rest, like sleep. You spent a lot of chakra in a short amount of time, didn't you?"
"Bu…"
"We have nothing to do for now but move, it's okay," he continued. I blinked.
"Okay…I'll feel the jinchuriki anyway, well the reincarnations." I closed my eyes.
"Akane?" Itachi greeted me in confusion.
"It's always a pleasure to see you too," I replied. He quirked a brow.
"It wasn't the case until recently if I remember well." I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Well played Uchiha, well played." He smirked and let me in.
"What brings you here?"
"I'm here to see your brother. We bet he couldn't do an obstacle course I made for Naru specifically and he did, because my own blood turned on me and showed him." Itachi chuckled behind his fist. "Sure, laugh all you want."
"Good morning nee-san." I looked down at Sasuke.
"Hi. I don't know what you have planned exactly for today but if I end up broke, I'll tell your mom."
"I wouldn't ruin a girl," he assured me, puffing his chest a little. I flicked his nose.
"You're nine, don't speak like a playboy."
"Don't turn into one either," Itachi added next to me. Sasuke deadpanned at us.
"I don't want Mother to scream at me if I become one." He put his hands on his hips. "I'm teaching you shuriken-jutsu this morning nee-san!" I wanted to sulk.
"Taught by a nine-year-old at age fourteen, it's…" Itachi shut his mouth when I glared at him.
He got comfortable way too quickly when it came to teasing.
"Nee-san is great in other things, and she's teaching me too, it's fair!" Sasuke exclaimed, a faint blush on his cheeks. I nodded and crouched behind him, my hands on his shoulders.
"You're damned right, Itachi just doesn't get it." He vaguely looked annoyed that we were teaming up against him.
"Sasuke, have you even taught anyone before?" He shook his head and Itachi sighed. "Maybe I should come to make sure no one ends up in the hospital."
"I can do it on my own nii-san!"
"I'm not saying you can't, it's just…"
"If he comes, you can show him you're actually a great teacher you know," I whispered in Sasuke's ear. He blinked and crossed his arms, thinking for a solid second.
"Okay, you can come but don't help if I don't ask you." Itachi nodded and I got up. Sasuke left first, Itachi sighing once he was outside.
"He's excited, it's a good thing."
"Sure, until someone ends up in the hospital. If you're as bad as him and Naruto say you are, then it could turn ugly quickly."
"I know, but I'd know how to shift his attention elsewhere the moment it's too much."
"What are you waiting for!?" Sasuke asked us from outside.
"We're coming!" We followed him to an Uchiha training ground.
I listened to Sasuke words, somehow my kunai landing closer to the intended target. Even I was surprised, but it wasn't enough progress for Itachi who clearly wanted to help too. Sasuke was adamant on doing it on his own.
"You have to be the most stable nee-san to aim."
"Stable, yeah, but when you're in the air..I aim better when I'm in the air."
"You dropped me." I ruffled his hair.
"Still hung up on that? I apologized!"
"When?"
"I'm sorry?" He shook his head, reminding me of his adult-self. "Please Sasuke-sama, do forgive my humble self."
"I already did, but thanks for the apology." I threw some more until Itachi called it and said I should take a break. "Why?"
"She's not in the conditions to be in an attentive mood for a long period of time." I blinked at him in surprise.
"How did you notice?" He shrugged. "…you're a devil, aren't you?" He rolled his eyes and looked down at his brother, who was not happy.
"Do you want to train?" Itachi clearly knew what to say because Sasuke beamed at him, nodding.
I sat down against a tree and watched them. It was nice to see their relationship, it seemed like a nice and healthy one right now. I could only hope it would remain that way for a long time.
When Itachi jumped in the air, threw his kunais and touched all of the targets, even the one behind the tree I was sitting against, I crossed my arms. When Sasuke did, touching three quarters of the targets, I fought the urge to sulk. He was nine. I knew he was prodigy and how strong he would become but…he was nine!
"I think you hurt her feelings Sasuke," I heard Itachi say.
"You did before me."
"No, you did it more, Itachi was born to wound my pride and ego," I said, raising my eyes to them. Itachi deadpanned at me. "I told you you would regret us becoming friends." He sighed, rubbing his temple while Sasuke snickered. "Don't laugh Sasuke, you don't get to be nine and that good, there are people who are struggling." He shrugged.
"Not my fault if I'm better than them." I sulked for good. "Nee-san, don't be sad!" He ran next to me, and I ruffled his hair, making him pout.
"I'm not, it's good for you. It does sting my pride though." He blinked and shot his brother a look, then back at me.
"Nii-san knows kenjutsu." I raised a brow, tilting my head on the side. "Why don't you guys spare in kenjutsu?"
"I don't think that…"
"Are you scared because last time I forced your sharingan out of you?" He frowned at me, now on my feet with a taunting smirk. "I get it, you would look uncool if you were to lose in front of your bro…"
"We don't have swords dumbass." Sasuke gaped at him, and I just stared, stunned.
Itachi…called me a dumbass? Uchiha Itachi?
He seemed to realize what he said because he put his hand in front of his mouth. It was too much, and I started laughing, my arms on my stomach.
"Nee-san?" I wiped a tear.
"How…you're funny Itachi!" He was confused, like Sasuke. I took a deep breath. "Sorry, it's just…you're a very serious guy on the outside and the 'dumbass' came out so naturally, you could feel it was from the heart…it was funny." He stared at me.
"You're the worst," he sighed.
"Worst of what?"
"Just…the worst." It didn't mean anything but…well. "We still don't have swords." I raised a finger at him and made storage seals out of my feet. A katana came out of each. I took my regular one and handed him the one I bought recently, in case mine broke. Itachi joined us and accepted the katana, staring at my feet. "From your feet, really?"
"Is it that surprising? I am a Seal Master. You've got to be able to make seals in any circumstances, even in fights, hence why I kicked Kakashi-san's ass."
"It's not his version."
"He's a sore loser, what can I say?" I went to the center of the clearing, Itachi in front of me. "No Sharingan, got it?" He nodded, testing out the katana.
I slid my foot back, my katana in front of me, both hands on the handle, and stared at him. He twitched and adopted a defensive position. I almost sighed, knowing he wouldn't budge from his stance and ran at him. Our blades clashes, sparks flying. Physically, he was stronger than me, he would overpower me, so I bent to the side. His blade went above me when I removed my own and I tried to hit him in the wrist with the handle. He had good reflexes though and moved his arm back enough for me to meet my blade.
I didn't stay there and did a cartwheel. I blocked his attacks as they came, Itachi slowly but surely pushing me back toward a rock. He probably wanted to reduce my possibilities of fleeing.
I planted my feet in the ground, getting as stable as possible and attacked, Itachi blocking my blow. However, as my blade met his, I used a tiny coat of wind chakra on my katana, making Itachi dizzy for a second at the clash. Using this second of inattention, I changed my hold on my katana for a fatal blow, although I just wanted a cut on his cheek and a few hair cut off. He got his shit together too soon and dodge, a few black hair flying.
Now, katanas were not ideal for thrusting like I just did. I would usually turn it around to wound the opponent, but it was Itachi, so I leaned on his head to go over him. I spun around but he blocked my sword. I dropped it, caught it with my other hand and put its tip on his throat.
He decided to turn into crows and reappeared behind me. I dropped out of any battle stances and turned around with wide eyes.
"Cheater!" He raised a brow innocently, as if…
"You said no Sharingan."
"Yeah, but I thought it was obvious I meant kenjutsu only! It was hard to use only that and then you…urhg!" He walked up to me silently, observing the katana in his hands. Then, he raised a serious gaze at me.
"Obviously, it was not obvious." He was so annoying…
He smirked. He knew he was annoying; he was doing it on purpose that…
"That was awesome!" We looked down at Sasuke. "You're so cool! I want to try!" He took Itachi's katana from his hands and ran off with it.
"Sasuke don't run with it, you're going to f…" Sasuke fell. Itachi sighed.
"He won't go anywhere now at least." Itachi glared weakly at me, and I shrugged.
I went home with them, Sasuke talking animatedly on his brother's back despite his twisted ankle. Once we were at their place, I stayed for a snack Itachi offered when my stomach made itself known. I was eating quietly when I heard Sasuke coming down the stairs with Itachi.
"How's the ankle?" He plopped down next to me with a grin.
"I'm good." He shot my lap a quick look. "Can I nap?"
"Of course." He put his head on my lap, all of this under his brother's curious gaze. "You want a nap too?" He blushed a little.
"No, it's just…I didn't realize that…"
"Yeah well, he saw Naruto do it and wanted to do it too."
"Hn." After a few minutes, where Sasuke fell asleep, Itachi looked up at me. "You don't have to accept everything Sasuke asks from you, you know." I blinked.
"I know, but I assure you I'm fine with him doing that. There's nothing wrong with giving him affection, right?" He looked unsure for a second.
"No, of course not, I just don't want him to overstep any boundary." He shot his cup of tea a quick look. "Thank you Akane."
"What for?"
"For caring for Sasuke like this. I don't think he would have befriended Naruto otherwise. It's good for him to make friends."
"Oh, well you're welcome." I smiled at him, and he returned it.
I opened my eyes wide. There was something tugging at my seal but…
"It's from me," Oji-chan informed me. "From Kyuubi."
"Naru, do you feel something with Kurama?" He looked at me above his shoulder.
"You felt it too? Well, Dad?" I nodded. "I'm not crazy then, it's like someone was…" He seemed to be listening to something else. "Kurama said someone tried to summon him."
"…Madara appeared somewhere on the battlefield then, the real one," I stated in a dark tone. "I can handle myself Naru."
"Are you sure?" I nodded.
"Madara knows about Yuureis, he killed the previous one." Naruto widened his eyes at me. "She was responsible for Izuna, his brother, dying in a way. That, and I have Hashirama inside of me, and the other half of Kurama inside of your dad, inside of me."
"You didn't think about telling me you'd be an obvious target Akane!?" he shrieked at me. I pursed my lips.
"I'm telling you now, and anyway, we have to deal with Obito." Naruto let got of me. "We don't have information or orders regarding Madara anyway, and from the threat…the Kages might decide to go themselves." Although…I doubted they'd be a match.
"Brother…" B-san whispered to himself. Naruto seemed torn as well.
"Naruto, I know you want to deal with all of it on your own, but you can't. Trust your allies and let's continue our own mission, okay? Please." He nodded slowly.
"I don't have to like it though."
"You don't, I don't either." Sensei…she wouldn't…
He noticed my clenched fists.
"Let's go." I followed him.
After a few minutes, Naruto's expression changed.
"We'll win!"
"Naru?"
"All the Kages are taking care of Madara and told me to focus here." My mark started to heat up.
"We're close," I told them seriously. "If possible, I'll handle Yagura and Utakata." They both nodded as Obito and his jinchurikis appeared in front of us. They didn't slow down and inevitably, Naruto and Obito bumped into each other, headbutting each other.
Naru was sent back to us while Obito jumped back, his new mask intact. He now had a sharingan and a rinnegan, stolen from Nagato's body most probably.
Obito was there with Nibi, Sanbi, Yonbi, Gobi and Rokubi. At least we avoided Fuu being a part this little army.
Still…out of all of the jinchurikis I met and warned…she was the only one who survived. Haku…didn't really count in this equation.
Roshi sent boulders covered in lava and flames at us.
"Suiton: Great Waterfall Technique!" I said, spitting water from my mouth. It covered the whole area, and I made another sign as I was still spitting water. "Fuuton: High Wind Technique!" The water became ferocious and destroyed the trees in front of us. Vapor surrounded us and them. "You saw their eyes?"
"Sharingan and Rinnegan in each of them," B-san replied. "It's the same as for Nagato, they share their field of vision."
"Exac…" I used my club to stop another one.
Somehow, Yagura was brought back with a replica of his club, that had been mine for three years now. I hooked the big hook of my club with his to throw him up in the air.
"Don't die!" I yelled, going to Yagura.
Hey! Thanks for reading and leave a review to tell me what you thought of this chapter!
