Chapter 19: Recovery Part 2

MAY 1, 2020

SCENE: ALEX AND JO'S HOUSE

(Alex cleans the kitchen counter for the second time while Jo teaches Jazz to stay still as she holds a treat while he pants. Helen is on the couch knitting scarves for the twins)

Jo: (Smiles) Wait, wait.

Alex: (Stressed) Did you clean the restrooms?

Jo: Yes, I did, I'm just bonding with Jazz. (To Jazz) Wait, okay here you go baby.

(Jo gives Jazz a treat to his joy as she laughs and pets Jazz)

Jo: You see how good he listens to auntie. That's cause you love auntie the most!

Alex: (Smirks) It's because you have the doggy treats. Wait until Amber gets back then we'll see how much love you get then.

Jo: (Know's Alex is stressing) It's not like it's the first time they came here Alex they spent a week here and they loved it. And they're going to love living here permanently when do they get here?

(They hear a car park in the driveway)

Alex: That would be now, okay.

Helen: (Smiles) Do you think they'll like these scarves I made them?

(Helen holds up a pink scarf with red flowers knitted on it and a blue scarf with yellow lightning bolts knitted on it)

Jo: (Grins) Yes, they are going to love it and you Helen, you're the grandmother.

Helen: (Chuckles nervously) This isn't how I imagined Alex having my grandbabies but I'm happy either way.

Alex: (Nervous) That's great mom let's go.

(Alex puts the cleaning supplies away and comes outside with Jo. They see a Honda Odyssey park in the driveway and immediately after Eli and Alexis come out in masks)

Eli and Alexis: (Running toward the patio) Daddy!

Jo: (Holds hands up smiling) Whoa, whoa slow down you guys six feet and you just traveled state lines.

Alexis: (Sad) Aww!

Eli: Social distancing sucks!

(Izzie arrives and stands by the twins to Jo's obvious discomfort that she tries to mask)

Izzie: Hey! Eli George Stevens that is not a nice word we had a swear jaw back in Kansas don't think there's not gonna be one here.

Eli: Auntie Amber said it to me last week.

Alexis: (Excited) Is auntie Amber here? Does she have her doggy with her?

Alex: (Tries to keep a cool face) Um auntie Amber is in the hospital she couldn't be here today.

Jo: But she really wanted to be. The good news is your grandma is here and she has some gifts for you two.

Helen: (Inhales and grins) Hi.

Eli: (Smiles) Hi.

Alexis: (Smiles) Hi, it's nice to meet you grandma.

Helen: (Chuckles and pulls out scarves) It's so nice to meet the two of you, I imagined what you would look like and you're even more perfect in person. I made you these.

Eli: (Gets blue scarf) Cool!

Alexis: (Puts pink scarf on) Pretty!

(The kids are distracted by the scarves allowing Izzie to come forward towards Helen)

Izzie: (Chuckles) Um hi I don't think we've met which is partly my fault because I didn't reach out but uh…I'm Izzie.

Helen: (Chuckles) I know, Alex and Amber told me all about you. I don't think your hair is that hideous.

Izzie: (Curls lips) I'm guessing that's a compliment from Amber?

Helen: In her terms yes.

Alex: (Inhales) Hey guys why don't you take your grandma inside? She can show you around and you can meet Amber's dog. He's in the backyard and he is excited to meet you two.

Izzie: There's a dog? Amber got a dog?

Eli: (Tugs her arm) Can we meet him mom?

Alexis: Please mom please!

Izzie: …Sure.

(Eli and Alexis cheer as they follow Helen inside)

Izzie: But wash your hands first!

(Izzie is left with Jo and Alex. Jo looks at Izzie in awkward silence)

Alex: (Clears throat) Um Jo Karev, this is Izzie Stevens. Izzie, this is my wife, Jo.

Izzie: (Nods) Um hi it's uh it's nice to finally meet you.

Jo: (Nods) You too.

(Jo and Izzie stand there for a few silent moments until Alex speaks up)

Alex: Do you guys want to head inside and Jo can show the kids their rooms?

Izzie: Yes, I would love that.

Jo: Yeah, sounds good.

CUT TO KITCHEN

(Izzie is sitting at the counter drinking a cup of coffee while Alex looks for something to make from the fridge)

Alex: Do you want something to eat? Eggs or cereal?

Izzie: I'm good thanks.

Alex: Are you sure? I can order in if you want, I've gotten so much stuff delivered I'm contemplating getting a bigger mail slot.

Izzie: (Know's he's avoiding the issue) Alex can you please not do that.

Alex: Do what?

Izzie: Go on like things are normal with me because I know they're not. I tried calling Webber and Bailey after that phone call and um…I wanted to see how she was. How is she?

Alex: She's alive.

Izzie: Can I ask what happened? I know I don't have a right after what I said and I am sorry I said that. I have my opinions of her but I never wished her harm I wish the same could be said for her but…how did this happen?

Alex: (Sighs and turns closing the fridge) Side impact collision on the driver's side. She was found at the scene barely breathing because there was a piece of glass from the window penetrating her chest cavity causing a hole in her heart.

Izzie: (Horrified) Oh Jesus.

Alex: Yeah, it looked worse when she came in. Hunt and Altman brought her back and got the hole patched up. She's in a recovery room now for the next three days with a cast for a closed tibia fracture. She's got the best looking after her including Bailey.

Izzie: (Sighs) Good that's good. Eli asked for her on Friday night, the night after-

Alex: I know when it happened.

Izzie: Yeah, he said she didn't show up for movie night and that he wanted me to call her and ask. I…I told him she was busy but their smart kids Alex they know that something else is going on.

Alex: (Nods) I thought they would.

Izzie: (Sympathetic) I can tell them if you want.

Alex: No, I'll tell them, it should come from me.

Izzie: Okay if you think you can do it. I was wondering if visiting hours are open, I thought maybe I could visit and see how she is.

Alex: (Chuckles darkly) Iz, you know I love you and I love my sister but the two of you in the same building is a powder keg waiting to go off.

Izzie: (Sighs) I'm not gonna upset her or insult her, I'm not heartless Alex.

Alex: I know that but she doesn't need anymore stress and you cause her stress. I would appreciate it if you held it off until she got home, okay? Can you do that? You owe her that much.

Izzie: Fine.

Alex: Thank you. (Starts to walk away) Now if you'll excuse me, I have to tell my kids their only aunt is in a hospital recovering after almost dying.

(Alex leaves Izzie in the kitchen)

CUT TO ELI AND ALEXIS'S ROOM

(Jo sits on Eli's bed with Eli showing her pictures he took on the road trip with his digital kids' camera. Helen sits with Alexis as she pets Jazz who pants at the attention)

Eli: And here we saw a moose crossing the road and it was so cool!

Jo: (Smiles) I bet, what other furry little woodland creatures did you see?

Eli: I saw two bunnies wrestling each other. I think it was a choke hold like auntie Amber showed me on my birthday.

(Jo and Helen look at each other in sadness over the mention of Amber but continue smiling for the kids)

Alexis: Daddy told us that you're gonna have our little brother or sister, is that true?

Jo: (Grins) Yeah it is, your dad and I are having a baby and that baby is gonna be your little brother or sister.

Alexis: (Excited) If it's a girl can I name her?

Eli: If it's a boy can I name him?

Alexis: Are you and daddy gonna have the baby here or in the hospital?

Eli: Do you know if it's one baby or two?

Helen: (Chuckles) Are you guys gonna let her get a word in and answer one question?

Jo: (Laughs) It's okay. Um maybe, maybe, we haven't discussed it and it's too early to tell. I'm guessing you two are excited to be big siblings already huh.

Eli: I want to play hockey with him!

Alexis: I want to ice skate with her!

Jo: I'm glad this baby is lucky to have you two as it's big brother and sister. I know your mom and dad think so too.

Alex: (Appears at the doorway) That we do. Hey mom, Jo why don't you guys help Izzie get breakfast ready while I catch up with the kids?

Helen: Sure, thing honey.

Jo: (Knows why he wants to be alone) Yeah.

(Helen and Jo leave the room. Alex sits on Alexis's bed petting Jazz with her before patting the empty side of the bed)

Alex: Come here buddy, I need to talk to you two.

Eli: (Sits next to him) Is something wrong dad?

Alex: Um no nothing's wrong.

Alexis: When is auntie Alex gonna come home?

Alex: (Clears throat) Um she…s-she's not coming home tonight.

Eli: Why not?

Alex: Well, um…she's at the hospital.

Alexis: Is she doing a surgery?

Alex: Um…no she's not in surgery. The truth is a few days ago your auntie Amber was…(Swallows) She was in an accident and they had to do surgery on her. She's okay now, she's stable and resting at the hospital.

Alexis: (Sad) Why did she need to have surgery?

Alex: She was in a car accident; it was a really bad one but the good news is the firefighters got her out in time and some of the best doctors in the world fixed her.

Eli: (Worries) Is she gonna be, okay?

Alex: She is, she's tough as nails and she's a fighter. She's already asking for you two and she can't wait to see you guys.

Alexis: When is she coming home?

Alex: (Sighs) Hopefully in three days if there's no complication and she keeps getting better. You don't have to worry about her, she's doing fine and she will be so happy to see you guys.

Alexis: Can we see her?

Eli: Can we visit?

Alex: No, I'm sorry guys no one but personnel allowed but you guys can video chat with her if you want. In fact, I think aunt Maggie is with her right now so why don't I call her and you guys can see her.

Eli and Alexis: (Nod vigorously)

Alex: Okay let's go.

CUT TO LIVING ROOM

(Alex gets his laptop to zoom Maggie who answers on the other side wearing full PPE)

Maggie: Hey she's doing good, her vitals sound good and incision is clean.

Alex: That's great, is she with you?

Maggie: (Gets Amber in view) Yep, she's not going anywhere.

Amber: Unfortunately, what's up Alex?

Alex: (Grins) There are some people who want to see you.

Amber: Adam Levine?

Alex: (Snickers) Better.

(Eli and Alexis come to the camera in view)

Eli and Alexis: Hi auntie Amber!

Alex: (Smiles) Oh my god! You guys are here?! Are you real? Are they real?

Alex: Yes, they are and they miss you so much.

Amber: (Laughs) I miss you guys too. Guys, this is my friend Maggie, Maggie this is my favorite pair of twins ever Eli and Alexis.

Alexis: Hi.

Eli: Hi.

Maggie: (Smiles) Hi it's so nice to meet you guys, Amber told me all about you.

Alexis: Did you save auntie Amber's life?

Maggie: No, I didn't, that was Dr. Hunt and Dr. Altman, they were the ones that saved her. I'll let them know you asked for them and you can thank them how does that sound?

Eli: Good.

Alexis: Can we send them muffins?

Maggie: (Laughs) Muffins? Wow it makes me wish I was the one that saved your aunt, can you make me some?

Alexis: (Nods)

Maggie: Thank you.

Amber: (Smiles) I so want to hug you guys right now, social distancing sucks!

Eli: Mommy says that's a bad word.

Amber: Well, she's not my mommy, how are you two? How was the road?

Alexis: It was good we saw a lot of mountains and moose and deer. We even saw the largest ball of paint.

Amber: You did! Wow I am so jealous, I only saw the largest ball of twine but paint? That sounds cooler.

Alexis: When can we see you? We miss you.

Amber: Aww I miss you guys too; this room is so boring without you guys here to cheer me up. I hope I can see you guys soon; Maggie just needs to make sure I'm healthy enough to go home and spoil you guys rotten.

Maggie: And on that note we need to take your aunt to get a chest scan so we can make sure her heart is beating nice and strong. I'm sorry guys but we have to cut this reunion short, it was nice meeting the two of you though.

Amber: (Frowns) I'm sorry my little muggles I'll talk to you tonight though and hey we can watch Guardians of the Galaxy Eli, Alexis do you want to join us?

Alexis: I do!

Amber: (Chuckles) Great I'll see you guys later I love you, bye!

Alexis: I love you.

Eli: I love you more.

Alex: Love you sis, I'll come by and check on you later.

Amber: Okay bye!

(Amber hangs up and gives Maggie the tablet still grinning)

Maggie: (Grins) They are so adorable; I can see why you love them so much.

Amber: (Chuckles) Yeah, they're the best. Okay let's get me to CT so I can be one step closer to breaking out of here.

Maggie: You got it auntie Amber.

(Maggie and the nurses wheel Amber to radiology)

LATER AT THE SURGICAL FLOOR

(After taking a patient to a trauma room Nick Evans goes to a nurse's station on his break and approaches Sara Ortiz)

Nick: (Clears throat) Hey uh I'm a firefighter at station 19, they sent me to check on Amber Karev. They were the ones that-

Sara: They were the ones that brought her in I know. God that poor girl and her brother, I mean the older Dr. Karev, Alex, seems like he's tough but I don't think I saw someone that scared when they brought his little sister in on a stretcher. I can't imagine if that happened to my sister, can you?

(Nick shakes his head as he tries to play it cool)

Nick: So, uh how is she? The others at the station are pretty worried about her, they want to know how she is.

Sara: Let me go over her chart and I'll let you know if there's any changes.

Nick: Okay thanks.

(Nick waits for Sara as she goes through the computer)

MEANWHILE TWENTY FEET AWAY AT THE SURGICAL BOARD

(Levi writes down the few elective surgeries they can do on the board as Andrew approaches him surprised by the board)

Andrew: Surgeries are back?

Levi: Some elective ones are and trauma is back so that's good…I mean I'm not hoping there's gonna be more accidents but if there were it's a good thing, we're there to tend to them.

Andrew: (Exhales in joy) And good for us too. I was afraid I was gonna be 40 by the time I do my first surgery as an attending and lap chole's do not count. How are my post ops?

Levi: Your lap appy is getting discharged right now, your lap chole is complaining to a nurse and Trevor Harris is recovering nicely in his room. The incision is clean and scans show the kidney is working great so he should be out of here within a week.

Andrew: He'll probably divorce his wife by then. Great job.

Levi: Thanks…are we friends?

Andrew: (Taken back) Excuse me?

Levi: I know we're friends because I'm best friends with Amber and you're dating-or not dating her I don't know you two are confusing. But aside from that are we close enough friends that I can talk to you about something personal while the person I normally talk to is in CT?

Andrew: (Sighs) If I say yes will you ask your question quickly and like a normal person?

Levi: I can try.

Andrew: Then go.

Levi: Amber is making me ask a guy out by the time she's discharged or I'll be homeless.

Andrew: Sounds like her, what's the question?

Levi: How do I ask someone out?

Andrew: The same way you did with Kim just not with Kim.

Levi: But I didn't ask him out, he asked me out after kissing me in an elevator. I've never actually asked a guy out and…I'm freaking out how do I do it?

Andrew: (Chuckles drily) God it's like I'm on the phone with my 16-year-old cousin. Just scan the place if you see a queer guy, you think is cute, approach him, make small talk and ask him for a drink it's that simple.

Levi: Yeah, I know but uh…I-I don't uh…

Andrew: (Snaps fingers) Quickly and normally Schmitt.

Levi: I don't have good gaydar. (Andrew raises an eyebrow) I came out two years ago and there's been no one but Nico and I don't know if the guy I want to ask out is gay so…I'm stumped.

Andrew: (Groans) How does Amber do this without complaining?

Levi: Oh, she complains.

Andrew: (Chuckles) Yeah, I bet she does. Okay I'm gonna help you out, partly because I feel sad for you and partly so I could get out of this conversation. Give me a minute.

(Andrew scopes the floor looking for potential dates and spots Nick Evans in uniform and PPE by the nurse's station waiting patiently)

Andrew: Okay I got one, firefighter by the station.

Levi: (Looks) He looks cute definitely fit, wait how can you tell he's gay?

Andrew: Wait for it.

(Andrew and Levi observe Nick who sees Link walking by and eyes his behind with interest as he walks away before turning back to the station)

Andrew: Is that enough evidence?

Levi: I think so yeah. So, uh what do I do?

Andrew: Wait until he gets in an elevator and make your move. He's moving.

(Nick walks away from the station and heads to the elevator behind him)

Andrew: Move now.

Levi: (Stunned) O-Okay.

(Levi power walks to the elevator inside with Nick in it as well looking at his phone. The door closes)

Andrew: (Exhales) Finally.

CUT TO ELEVATOR

(Levi and Nick are inside the elevator alone. Levi thinks about what to say while Nick scrolls through his phone)

Levi: (Nervous) Hey.

Nick: (Casual) Hey.

Levi: …Hey.

Nick: (Looks at him confused) You already said that.

Levi: Sorry um I-I haven't seen you here until today. A-Are you visiting someone?

Nick: Um sort of I'm new, I'm from 19 they just sent me here to check on a patient.

Levi: Oh, uh that's good, I know those guys they're good people.

Nick: Yeah, they seem to be.

Levi: So, uh are you headed back there?

Nick: Yeah, I am why? Do you need a fire put out?

Levi: (Chuckles nervously) Um no uh actually I was uh I was wondering if you had any plans for tonight?

Nick: (Eyes narrowed) Tonight?

Levi: O-Or this weekend if tonight's no good um I don't know what we can do during a pandemic but uh I'm sure there's something or someplace that's open.

Nick: I'm sorry are you asking me out?

Levi: (Panics) Oh god I already blew this. I-I have this friend she wants me to be bolder and more upfront when it comes to guys, and you seemed like a queer guy so I just-I wanted to say no to her but she's lying in bed with a cast so it's hard to tell her things can't go her way. So, I asked her boyfriend or her ex-boyfriend it's really complicated and he spotted you and told me to make a move and…do you want to get a coffee with me sometime?

Nick: (Frozen as he tries to process) Um…look you seem like a nice, weird guy but uh (Pushes elevator button repeatedly) I'm gonna have to say no and do a public service and let you know that you overshare.

(The elevator door finally opens to the first floor. Nick exits promptly leaving a dejected Levi behind in the elevator as the door closes)

MAY 2, 2023

SCENE: AMBERS ROOM

(Amber is lying in bed reading Good Omens while Levi sits in a chair watching a Spanish soap opera captivated by it. Alex walks inside)

Levi: Dude Alejandro.

Alex: (Captivated as well) What happened?

Levi: (Sad) Muerte.

Alex: (Sighs) Adios ese.

Levi: (Shakes his head with tears in his eyes)

Amber: (Rolls her eyes at the drama queens)

Alex: (Hands Levi a piece of paper) Well here this should cheer you up.

Levi: (Reads) You got it so quick?

Alex: I considered the matter urgent and spent last night chatting with the landlord and talking you guys up.

Amber: What is it?

Levi: It's a lease to Alex and Jo's loft. They offered to sign it over to me and Taryn when the twins came into town. We took it and now we are officially homeowners.

Amber: Of a home that was once my family's?

Levi: Semantics.

Amber: Dibs on the bed.

Alex: No, no dibs on the bed, until you recover fully the only home, you're living in is mine where you have two doctors at your disposal.

Levi: Taryn and I are doctors too.

Alex: No, your zygotes who will most likely kill my sister so soon after her near death experience.

Amber: Yeah, I love you man but I trust Alex and Jo to treat me more than I trust you. (Realizes) Hey! How come you're giving him the loft and not me?

Alex: Look a part of me is hoping you'll reconsider and just continue to sleep two floors down two children who are gonna be in tears over their favorite aunt leaving. Besides that loft is barely built for two people do you really think three is gonna make it livable?

Amber: You, me and Jo lived there for almost two years.

Alex: You and I grew up in foster care and she lived in her car we're low maintenance. Glasses and Hellmouth are spoiled like the rest of your generation.

Levi: (Offended) Hey! I thought we were just starting to get along.

Alex: I gave you a place so you could finally move out of my house, not so I could help you.

Amber: Alex I need to move I love you and I appreciate that you're the reason I didn't spend my intern year eating out of the garbage but I can't be a freeloader like Schmitt.

Levi: (Offended) What did I ever do to you people?!

Alex: Quiet, look it's just for a little bit and besides you might not even need to move now that you and Deluca got back together.

(Levi's eyes widen at his assumption and goes to the bathroom to escape the awkwardness)

Amber: (Sighs) I don't know if we're getting back together. Jo told him to give me space and I haven't seen him since the night I woke up.

Alex: (Guilty) I'm sorry I didn't know.

Amber: It's fine and I know you're only trying to take care of me but I can take care of myself.

Alex: Yeah, I know but I'm just trying to be there for you like I would be there for Mer.

Amber: Any progress?

Alex: None, but hey on the bright side Koracick got discharged he's at a hotel as we speak to your joy I imagine.

Amber: It brings me joy but it also makes me want to poison his room service so he could be here suffering like I am. (Groans) When am I gonna get out? I need to get out!

Alex: It's only two days left just let the time pass.

Amber: At least take me outside I need to feel the sun, I haven't felt the light in six days!

Alex: You need to be monitored.

Amber: You're a surgeon, you can monitor me and if anything goes wrong, I will take the blame please! I am begging you!

Alex: Nope.

Amber: (Sighs) Okay let me try something else. If you don't let me out of here in the next five minutes, I will text everyone on my contacts on how I walked in on you freshman year trying on your girlfriends' panties. (Alex looks up) Red, lacy, crotchless panties.

Alex: (Knows she's serious) You are an evil cabrona you know that?

Amber: Andale hermano.

(Alex stands up and leaves to get a wheelchair)

LATER

SCENE: BREMERTON PARK

(Alex is on the bench overlooking the view with Amber six feet away in her wheelchair enjoying the outside. They sit there silently for a few moments before Alex decides to bring Izzie up)

Alex: Izzie and I talked yesterday; I told her what happened.

Amber: And let me guess she's making a human sacrifice to a demon so I can die?

Alex: Close she asked to see you. (Amber looks at Alex in anger) Look I know you're not in the mood for a lecture.

(Amber groans and unlocks her wheel and tries to roll away but Alex grabs the chair stopping her)

Alex: She's not coming, I told her it wasn't a good idea so maybe save the temper tantrum this week, okay?

(Alex locks the wheelchair and Amber looks out in the horizon with an irritated face)

Amber: I have nothing to say to that woman and there is nothing you can say to change my mind. If you want me to be nice to her then you may as well wheel me in front of a bus because that is never gonna happen. She is…God she is hateful, I mean it Alex she is a hateful, hateful woman who is driving me up the wall. It is bad enough that I have to associate her with Eli and Alexis, but I have to work with her too? How is she still a doctor? She is over emotional; she is reckless and she is an organ stealer. And that was all before the cancer god knows what that chemo did to her already toxic head and that toxic personality. I'm not gonna be around to see it you can forget it you son of a bitch!

Alex: (Looks at Alex and chuckles lightly)

Amber: Oh, I am so glad my pain is causing you to laugh.

Alex: No, it's just…sometimes you remind me of her when I first met her.

Amber: I really hope you're talking about some random slut you banged instead of that thing.

Alex: She complained about me a lot like you're complaining about her you know. Plus, she may look sweet, but she was no push over even as an intern. And I'm sorry kid but you don't exactly have a high horse when it comes to reckless decisions.

Amber: (Scoffs) I never stole a heart for my fiancé!

Alex: No but you did do a paternity test behind my back and almost imploded our relationship. It's not the same but it's not that different. You and her get involved with every patient and you hide it better but you're the most compassionate in your class.

Amber: Stevens is compassionate? Really?

Alex: She helped save a deer that everybody else ignored and stood up to Hunt when he used live pigs instead of cadavers.

Amber: Hunt? Dr. Owen Hunt head of trauma?

Alex: Yeah guy was fresh out of Iraq he was really messed up. And she was a mess too but that didn't stop her from moving forward and overcoming every obstacle in her way even when she had a good chance of losing. Do you seriously not see it?

Amber: (Looks at Alex and shakes her head) Is that why I hate her so much?

Alex: That and you love me enough to hold a grudge for me. I know her and I know you and I love you both. I love the both of you but you are the most stubborn, pig-headed people I have ever met and that is saying something.

Amber: I don't regret what I did Alex and I am not apologizing for it. I did what I thought was right at the time not because I wanted something but because I wanted to protect my family at the time. I wanted to protect them from someone who I have heard concerning stories about including how she cut an lvad wire to steal someone else's heart and how she left my oldest brother with a note and mountains of debt. If it was Andrew and me in that position and you in mine you would do the same thing because you love me and you didn't want me to welcome the person who hurt me immensely back into my life. I am in the right and I do not apologize for how I reacted and how I wanted to handle things.

Alex: I know that and she knows that and pretty much the entire hospital knows that. I know I'm not gonna get you to apologize to her unless she apologizes first.

Amber: Which is not gonna happen.

Alex: How about you let me worry about that?

Amber: (Snorts) Since when did you become an optimist?

Alex: Probably when my baby sister survived a brutal accident miraculously.

(Amber looks at Alex with unknown emotion before looking over the city view in silence with him)

LATER THAT NIGHT

SCENE: COVID WARD

(Izzie stands outside Meredith's room watching sadly as she's still unconscious attached to a ventilator. Alex comes and stands by her)

Izzie: I imagined seeing her again so many times. I imagined our kids meeting and we would catch up over what our lives were like for the past 10 years. I would apologize for missing Lexie's funeral and Derek's and she would rightfully yell at me. I would apologize for leaving without so much as a goodbye. I want to do all of that with her Alex, can we do that?

Alex: Yeah you will, she's stronger than the both of us. She's not gonna let this thing take her.

Izzie: I really hope your right.

(Izzie tears up and Alex holds her hand as they look at Meredith)

Izzie: Is Amber, okay?

Alex: She is, she's stable and her scans are pristine. At least one of them is walking out of the hospital.

Izzie: I'm actually happy that she is believe it or not.

Alex: …She's not gonna apologize for what happened Izzie. She believes she was right and honestly I agree with her.

Izzie: (Glares at Alex) Of course you're taking her side.

Alex: It's not about sides, it's about perspective. In her mind that day you were the enemy, in her mind you were one of the many women who screwed me over and was looking to leave another scar. She wanted to protect me she told you that and you kicked her out and I stood by and did nothing.

Izzie: I didn't do anything wrong! She is holding me accountable for what I did as a resident while she was in another state learning basic math. She wasn't there so she has no right to judge me and she certainly had no right tricking my kids as part of a diabolical plan of hers.

Alex: I agree but she's not evil.

Izzie: (Scoffs)

Alex: She's not, she's done things that make it seem that way but so did you when you were her age.

Izzie: (Angry) Oh, that is not-

Alex: You cut an lvad wire for a man you loved, you slept with O'Malley when he was married and you made a mistake causing a woman to loose her kidney and blamed everybody but yourself when you got fired. If she did even one of those things, you would judge her too and don't even deny it. You both share that flaw.

Izzie: (Inhales and exhales)

Alex: Look instead of defending yourself and saying what happened in the past was in the past. How about you cave in first and apologize to her first.

Izzie: (Stubborn) I didn't do anything to her.

Alex: No but you did hurt the brother who raised her and kept her from her niece and nephew for five years. If DeLuca did that to her, I would be mad too and pick a fight with him because I was so mad at him and wanted to defend my sister. I know that and the reason you can't see that is because you're an only child so you don't know that kind of loyalty. You need to apologize to her first so you two can start to move past this nonsense. (Izzie growls softly) You don't have to like her, you don't have to love her but you do have to get used to her. Because she's your family now and you want her to be by your side. Once you do, you're not gonna regret it, Jo and I can promise that.

(Izzie inhales and exhales as she and Alex look back at Meredith)

Alex: O'Malley would have wanted you to make peace.

Izzie: That is a low blow, Alex.

Alex: It's not, I know it's true because she saw him when she was crashing.

Izzie: (Shocked) What?

Alex: She might have seen him or maybe it was her imagination I don't know. She said that he helped her come back to us, that he wanted her to come back because he didn't.

Izzie: …Are you sure it was him?

Alex: He told her about how I gave him syphilis.

Izzie: Oh…(Laughs) Do you remember how simple it was back then? Before all this death and lvad wires and affairs back when we were just stupid kids wanting to cut people?

Alex: (Chuckles) Yeah, I don't really look back at my intern year with nostalgia. If I could face myself then I would probably punch him.

Izzie: Yeah, everybody wanted to do that too. What's your point about George?

Alex: My point is if knowing that O'Malley believed she was worth saving, don't you think he would want you to spend the life she just got back finding a way to move past all the hate so we can finally move forward and be the family we never got to have?

(Izzie inhales and exhales leaving Alex to go back home)

MAY 3, 2020

SCENE: SEATTLE JUNKYARD

(Alex and Andrew approach Amber's car with pained look on their faces)

Andrew: (Sighs) Oh man, Amber is gonna be pissed.

(The view reveals the driver side of the car smashed in with the door off its hinges and the front window broken completely)

Alex: Yeah, I think we should spare her the news until she's 35.

Andrew: (Shakes his head at the wreckage as he looks inside) How in the world did she walk away from this? It's a miracle.

Alex: It's gonna take another miracle to put this thing back together. (To scrapper) How much?

Scrapper: 50 grand and that's just to fix the exterior.

Alex: (Groans) Damn it.

Andrew: It's fine I have a buddy back in Wisconsin he restores cars and he has dealt with worse. I'll give him a call and see if he can give us a doctors and friends discount.

Scrapper: It'll cost more to fix it than what it's worth.

Andrew: Yeah well, it's worth more than you know. Can you give us the papers?

(The scrapper leaves Alex and Andrew)

Alex: (Sighs) Boss 429 mustang with hand sewn leather seats. Who does this to a 429?

Andrew: I think the guys breathalyzer results can answer that. They found him after he ran his truck into a convenience store not far from the site. He's being held with no bail, and I highly doubt he's gonna get out of a DWI charge with a hit and run too.

Alex: Good. So, this buddy of yours do you think he can get her back in fighting shape?

Andrew: I'll have to send pics and get a timeline but hopefully yeah and I hope so because this car does not deserve such an unfair death.

Alex: (Still sad) I loved that car; this was a nice car which is surprising since it came from my brother.

Andrew: You know Amber always used to worry about me every time I went out at night on my bike. She would recite the statistics of 'donor cycles' as she called them and told me I was gonna get in an accident one day. I hoped she would be wrong but I never hoped she would be a statistic. How is she?

Alex: She's good, her scans are good and she is getting discharged tomorrow. She's crawling up the walls though and making Maggie miserable.

Andrew: (Chuckles) Yeah doctors make the worst patients. Is Jo with her? Levi?

Alex: Schmitt is with her; Jo is back home with the kids…and Izzie.

Andrew: (Hisses) The famous ex huh? How is the missus handling that?

Alex: She's good or she says she is, I'm still waiting for Pompei to erupt.

Andrew: (Chuckles) I'm sure it'll be fine man; Jo is more mature than your average wife. And it doesn't hurt to have a sister take your side over the ex's.

Alex: Yeah, I think Amber would toss Izzie over a building if Jo gave her permission.

(Andrew nods understandably)

MEANWHILE

SCENE: ALEX AND JO'S BACKYARD

(Jo and Izzie sit in the chairs watching Eli and Alexis play with Jazz who barks and runs around them)

Izzie: (Grins) They love that dog.

Jo: (Grins) Yeah Amber thought they might like to have a furry friend around now that their city folk.

Izzie: Yeah, it's probably the only thing I'm gonna thank her for. Alex hated animals when I knew him. Does the same apply to Amber?

Jo: (Snorts) Yeah, would you believe me if I told you Amber didn't adopt this dog from the pound but from a patient?

Izzie: What?

Jo: Yeah, Jazz's previous owner was a patient of Amber's who chose hospice a couple of weeks ago. She died before we could transfer her and didn't leave instructions for who gets her dog.

Izzie: (Surprised) And Amber adopted the dog out of kindness?

Jo: That and she wanted to save a life. (Laughs) And a day later she was spoiling Jazz with eggs straight from the pan and calling him Jazzy Bear. I think she loves that dog more than us and that's why he misses her so much.

Izzie: He doesn't seem sad now.

Jo: He was the night of the accident, we went home and found him in Amber's bed whining and crying. It broke Alex's heart, it went on like that until the twins came and he can't get enough of them. Amber is gonna love having those two around, you couldn't have asked for a better aunt.

Izzie: (Chuckles drily) Past events speak otherwise. I know she did what she felt she had to do for her kids but the way she did it… (Chuckles darkly) You know the first thing I wanted to do when she walked through that door was bash her over the head with a wine bottle but I didn't. I confronted her, I told her what she did wrong and she did not apologize for it, she made that clear. And she made things worse by calling me a selfish bitch in my own house right before I kicked her out. Did she ever do any of those things to you or does she reserve that bad attitude for me?

Jo: I wasn't a mom by then so she didn't do those things to me.

Izzie: Figures.

Jo: But she did slap me and called me a backstabbing bitch after.

Izzie: Why does that not surprise me?

Jo: (Sighs) I didn't hold it against her because at the time I was drunk and I told her that her boyfriend then was in love with me two years prior.

Izzie: (Shocked) What?

Jo: Yeah, it's a long story but basically, I was in a really dark place. I was depressed and…I put Alex and Amber through hell by pushing them away when they were trying to help me. You were there during the whole Ava thing so you can imagine how triggering that was for him.

Izzie: Yeah, but if it makes you feel any better you seem way saner than she was. I mean you didn't pee on the couch.

(Jo and Izzie chuckle)

Jo: Well, that's a relief. Amber isn't the perfect sister but she is the best sister I could've asked for. I forgave her for that one awful moment because she was there for me time and time again. She was there when I confronted my abusive ex, she was there when I finally decided to get help and she has been here since this pandemic started when Alex was forced into another state. She's hard to get to know at first, her upbringing made her that way. But once you get past the rough shell, you'll find someone who will stand by you through any crisis.

Izzie: (Nods) I think that's why she hates me because I didn't do the same for her brother…I know you have a problem with me being here and believe me I didn't expect to get to know my ex-husbands new wife. Look Alex gave me his full blessing to use the embryos when we were still together and…I wanted to be a mom for as long as I could remember. I thought the cancer would stop that from happening and when I finally hit five years cancer free, I decided to make my dream come true while I still can. I didn't tell Alex because at that point it was five years later and I assumed he had found someone better and he did. I mean the fact that your so supportive of him through all of this tells me more than enough about your character. But Amber has already shown me her character and-

Jo: Okay I am going to stop you right there because she is my sister and I have an obligation to stand up for her when someone insults her.

Izzie: (Sighs) What am I not seeing here? What is it about Amber that makes everyone but me fall in love with her?

Jo: …You know she saved a 16-year-old girl who was being trafficked.

Izzie: (Shocked) What? When?

Jo: A few months ago. Erin Banks came into the ER with an abdominal hernia and her kidnapper who posed as her aunt. She was quiet and distant and Amber noticed something was wrong when her 'aunt' kept answering the questions.

Izzie: Yeah, I know the signs of patients who are being trafficked, they taught us before I left.

Jo: Well so did Amber but nobody believed her, they thought she was frantic because she had a panic attack before. Even the chief couldn't see it.

Izzie: (Shocked) Bailey couldn't see it?

Jo: Yeah, it wasn't her finest moment but she made up for it in the end by making sure nobody missed it again. Anyway, Amber exhausted her options so she pulled a last resort, she called Alex and he came right away. They got Erin alone and she admitted what was going on, she told them she was kidnapped and that her aunt was trafficking her.

Izzie: (Exhales) Oh my god, this girl was 16?

Jo: She was 14 when they took her.

Izzie: (Shakes her head) That poor little girl, she's only 10 years older than Alexis. Did they at least arrest the bitch?

Jo: They did.

Izzie: Good, that's good that's one less soulless monster on the streets.

Jo: (Nods) …Alex told me that night that the reason Amber knew what was wrong was because she thought of the twins. She thought of what she would want a doctor to do if it was them in that awful situation. She loves those two so much Izzie, she loves them so much she is grateful to you for having them. She doesn't say it but I know she feels it.

Izzie: (Sighs) Okay that's a very good reason for me to give her a break.

Jo: She apologized to Alex that night for what she did. She said it was an awful thing for her to do to him and to the kids.

Izzie: She said that?

Jo: Yeah, she's sorry for what she did to them it's just…it's just you she's not sorry for.

Izzie: (Snorts) Clearly.

Jo: Look nothing the two of you have said is something nobody over 20 in this household hasn't heard before. We know you two are angry and each of you has a right but maybe one of you could do this one thing that just might end this misery.

Izzie: And what is that?

Jo: Pull your head out of your stubborn self-absorbed ass and move the hell on.

Izzie: (Stunned) I can see why Alex loves you.

Jo: And I love him and he loves Amber and she loves the kids, the only people here who are ruining what could be a chaotic but great family is the two of you. If you can't make up for your own sakes then do it for the kids. Have you tried apologizing for hurting the person she loves instead of constantly demanding one from her? Have you?

Izzie: (Groans) Damn it. This advice was easier to ignore when it came from Alex but when you hear it a second time.

Jo: …So does this mean your gonna do it?

Izzie: I'm thinking about what I'm gonna say so give me a minute.

(Jo nods and lets Izzie consider her next actions)

THAT NIGHT

SCENE: AMBERS BASEMENT

(Jo sets up the bed after moving it from the bedroom to the middle of the open area by the stairs. Eli and Alexis are moving the sleeper sofa to the side)

Jo: Thanks for the help guys, I know your dad will appreciate it and so will your auntie.

Eli: When is she coming home?

Alexis: Is she gonna be okay?

Jo: She's okay, she's getting better, her vitals are stable, her heart is beating nice and strong and her leg is healing nicely. She should come home tomorrow night so yay!

Alexis: (Happy) Can we hug her when she gets here?

Eli: Can she teach me a new wrestling move tomorrow?

Jo: I'm sorry guys but your aunt has been in the hospital for a week she's been exposed so she needs to quarantine for two weeks. (Eli and Alexis deflate) But don't worry you'll still play on the computer with her and watch movies too. And it's only two weeks guys it'll go by so fast you won't even notice it.

(Alexis and Eli nod numbly and sit on the sofa. Jo sits next to them)

Jo: What's wrong?

Alexis: (Numbly) Nothing.

Eli: (Numbly) Nothing.

Jo: (Persistent) Try again, what's wrong?

Alexis: (Crying softly) Did auntie Amber die?

Jo: What? No, she didn't die, why would you ask that?

Eli: (Sad) Because no one is letting us see her. Our friend back home Marcus told us that his dad told him his mom wasn't coming home because she was busy. He overheard him one night on the phone and they told him his mom died of covid. He didn't tell him for weeks, he said he was protecting Marcus from the truth.

Jo: (Sympathetic) Oh sweetheart that's awful I'm so sorry. That's not what I'm doing okay? I'm telling you guys the truth; Amber is at the hospital safe and sound. Your daddy and Maggie are with her making sure she can come home to us. If she did die, we wouldn't lie to you, we wouldn't keep you from something that important.

Alexis: Do you promise?

Jo: (Holds out her pinkies to them) I pinkie promise.

(The three of them pinkie promise)

Jo: Is Amber being in the hospital the only thing that's bothering you two? I know it can be scary to move to a new city with new people but you'll get used to it. There are a lot of kids in the neighborhood you can meet and have playdates with. And we're already looking for schools you can go to.

Eli: (Sad) I wanted to start first grade wearing new Air Jordans. Dad said he was gonna get me the coolest ones he could find so all the cool kids would sit with me.

Alexis: (Sad) And I wanted to join ballet so I can have sleepovers with other girls and dance in a tutu.

Jo: (Sighs) And neither of you can do those things because of what's happening now. (The twins nod sadly) I know this whole thing sucks especially for all of us who live here. Me, your mom, your dad and your aunt have to slow the spread of this thing and see the damage is doing. And you guys have to put your childhood on pause until it's safe again. I get how that can make you sad and even a little angry. I was that way last year before this whole thing began.

Alexis: You were? Why?

Jo: (Treads carefully) I met someone I shouldn't have met, a woman who…told me things about myself I was better off not knowing. It was about my past something I didn't know about and…it almost broke me. After that I was depressed, I couldn't get out of bed for weeks, I pushed everyone away including your dad and Amber when they were trying to help and I made it worse by trying to ignore what was wrong with me.

Eli: How did you fix it?

Jo: I didn't fix it, it's still there but I got through the depression and sadness and rose above it. I got help from psychiatrists and I still talk to a therapist through the screen. I realized then that my sadness doesn't define me as long as I acknowledge it and face it.

Alexis: We're sad but not that sad.

Eli: We still want to have fun we just don't like what's happening now.

Jo: Yeah, I can understand that you guys are sad but your kids living in a pandemic that's to be expected. This virus isn't forever, they'll make a vaccine one day and we can learn to live with this and stop it from killing us. (Gets an idea) And until then how about we get this anger out the healthy way?

Eli and Alexis: How?

(Jo grins and gets up to grab the basket of toys and balls putting it in front of the twins who look confused)

Jo: We throw cr- (Filters) crud at a wall, that's how I get out my anger and that's how you guys are gonna do it so grab a toy and stand up.

(The twins each grab a toy and face the wall)

Jo: Okay I'll start watch me. (Aims and grunts throwing a ball at the wall) Now one of you go.

Eli: (Confused but throws a ball weakly)

Jo: Lame! You got to really throw it.

Alexis: What if we break something?

Jo: It's a wall it's not gonna break besides it's the basement nobody but Amber comes down here now come on throw it like you mean it!

(Alexis feels motivated and throws the ball as hard as she can hitting the wall with a thud)

Jo: (Laughs) Nice!

Eli: I want to go again!

Jo: So, go nobody's stopping you.

(Eli throws the ball again and it hits the wall harder. The three of them continue to throw toys at a wall laughing and having a good time)

LATER

SCENE: AMBERS ROOM

(Amber is in bed watching Gilmore Girls incredulous over Rory's actions in the season 4 finale)

Amber: Dean? Dean?! Seriously Rory? You had to lose your v card to a married man after some sappy speech about how his high school marriage is going off the rails? Are you kidding me?! I'm done.

(Amber exits the show and navigates for other entertainment when Winston Ndugu walks in)

Amber: Hi.

Winston: Hi.

Amber: I don't know you and your in navy scrubs are you new?

Winston: I am Dr. Karev. I'm the new cardio attending my name is Dr. Winston Ndugu and-

Amber: (Gasps) Oh you're him!

Winston: (Grins) I suppose I am.

Amber: No, I'm sorry it's just Maggie and I are close friends and she talks about you. I mean it's not all she talks about she has a life outside of you. (Stutters) Not that there's anything wrong with thinking about the person your attracted to from time to time it's just…hi.

Winston: (Chuckles) It's okay, it's nice to know that Maggie talks about me. I haven't gotten her out of my head for almost ten years so…does she say good things or does she have complaints?

Amber: (Laughs) It's all good trust me and coming from Maggie it says a lot about your character.

Winston: Well, that's a relief, I'm here to check your vitals for Maggie.

(Amber sits up and lets Winston do a physical on her)

Amber: So, when did you get here? I'm pretty sure I would notice you even with the PPE.

Winston: I drove here straight from Boston last week and arrived about six days ago.

Amber: Ah that explains it I was on an operating table getting my heart stitched up after being stabbed in a car crash.

Winston: Yeah, I'm sorry that happened to you. When Maggie found out she couldn't drive here fast enough, I think she broke about ten traffic laws with me as a witness. You have quite a village here.

Amber: Yeah, it helps to be so charming and suave you can relate.

Winston: (Chuckles) I can, okay your heart beat sounds normal. How are your ribs?

Amber: Better, pain isn't really there anymore.

Winston: And how's your breathing?

Amber: It's normal, I'm not having any trouble.

Winston: That's good and your scans from this morning are great. If things are the same, you'll be discharged tomorrow night.

Amber: (Exhales in relief) Hallelujah.

Winston: Although you do have to take it easy for the next five weeks with that leg in a cast plus you have to quarantine for two weeks when you get home.

Amber: I am painfully aware of that. I'll find something else to binge until my anger at Rory Gilmore goes away, any suggestions?

Winston: Comedy?

Amber: Yeah I need to get away from this dark world as much as I can.

Winston: In that case, Parks and Rec, The Office, Malcolm in the Middle and Married with Children.

Amber: I will add those to the list thanks.

Winston: No problem, I'm glad you're okay. I'll see you later hopefully from the other side of this room.

Amber: You and me both, thank you.

(Winston leaves the room and Amber leans back navigating through the tv when Izzie walks in causing Amber to freeze and the both of them to stand there in silence for a few moments)

Amber: If you're here to finish the job I ask that you leave the face I want an open casket for my virtual funeral.

Izzie: (Chuckles lightly) Don't worry I'm not as crazy as you think I am. I'm just here to drop off some gifts from the twins.

(Izzie pulls out two pieces of colored paper. The pink one has a drawing of Amber and Alexis holding hands with their names on the bottom and glitter everywhere. The blue one has a drawing of Amber with a cape on with Eli by her side also wearing a cape with Super Doctor and Doctor Junior written under the stick figures)

Amber: (Chuckles and smiles) Their great, tell them I said Picasso would be ashamed of himself if he saw these.

Izzie: Yeah, I'll pass the message.

Amber: Great, you can go now, bye.

(Izzie turns to leave but stops and stands by Amber's bed)

Izzie: I talked to Bailey and Webber. They said there's an open position for attending surgical oncologist and that I can start next Monday.

Amber: (Inhales) Great, I'll see you in the halls in six weeks then.

Izzie: …Look I know you don't like me; you have made that very clear and I don't like you either but unlike you I try to hide it.

Amber: (Groans and puts the remote down) What the hell, I might get a miraculously healed leg that lets me walk away from this.

Izzie: (Sighs) Do you think I want to be here like some beggar looking for change? Do you think that's good for my self-esteem? Do you think that makes me feel good? …I have been trying to come up with a way to make amends for the past three hours because one of us has to get our stubborn self-absorbed heads out of our asses and it's not gonna be you.

Amber: Alex convince you?

Izzie: Him and Jo, if two people tell me what has to happen to make things better, I should listen instead of holding a grudge over how you lied to me and manipulated my kids for your own nefarious purposes.

Amber: And yet it sounds like you are.

Izzie: Well can you blame me? You may have grown up with a brother unlike me but I have children unlike you and I have a biological duty to protect them even if it's from their own aunt.

Amber: Yeah, and I had a duty to protect my family from a person who married my brother only to leave him with a note and no goodbye a month later. And then you came back expecting everything to be the same like you didn't blow up his life and yours, do you know how awful that sounds?

Izzie: I know how awful that sounds I know how awful I am and that's why I'm here to say I am sorry for that!

Amber: (Freezes as she looks at Izzie with a blank face)

Izzie: (Inhales and exhales) I'm sorry for what I did to Alex I am, it is one of my biggest regrets to this day. I am sorry that I didn't reach out to you and get to know you when I married Alex because…I think we could've had what you and Jo have. I mean you two have this connection that makes me jealous and I lost out on that the second I started writing that letter. And I am sorry I didn't get to know you because from what I've heard outside of interacting with me you seem great, fantastic even. I mean you save lives and you helped your sister confront her abusive ex and you arrest people who sell children for sex it's…it's more than I ever did when I was here. I am sorry that I kept you and Alex from the twins for five years contract or not I kept you from them and I kept them from you. I am sorry that I did all those awful things and made you think it was okay to do what you did in Kansas. I played a part in that and I think that's why I detest you because you remind me of the worst moments of my life constantly. I am sorry that I kicked you out of my house when you came in with gifts for the kids. I have a problem seeing other people's perspectives and I only saw you as a cold-hearted bitch who wanted to hurt me just because. I…I am sorry for everything, that's all I have to say.

Amber: (Inhales and exhales before groaning) Damn it, now I have to apologize.

Izzie: That's usually how this goes yeah.

Amber: Fine…I am sorry that I took a piece of Alexis's hair and tested it against my DNA instead of talking to my brother and getting him to do it with your consent instead. I'm sorry for constantly bringing up every mistake you've ever made, God knows I have plenty of my own. I'm sorry for calling you a bitch and a slut behind you back…and to your face. I'm sorry for also not seeing your perspective that night and calling you the same selfish, stubborn bitch that doesn't care who she hurts as long as she gets her way. I am deeply sorry that for exactly five seconds I hoped your cancer comes back and-

Izzie: (Shocked) What?!

Amber: I said I was deeply sorry okay and to be fair by then you kept me on a leash and had Alex be with me when I was with the twins like I was on parole. I've been to juvie so it was very triggering.

Izzie: (Sighs) Fine I will let that one go even though it's probably the worst thing you've done.

Amber: (Rolls eyes) Well I said my piece…but just to be clear this does not mean I forgive you.

Izzie: (Confused) But we just-

Amber: I can apologize for what I did but the forgiving…you gotta give me time.

Izzie: Amber, this was before we even met, you can't hate me for something you didn't witness.

Amber: I don't care if I was in another state when it happened because it happened. Izzie you may have been the one with a physical illness but Alex was in agony like you. He stayed strong for you because he was in love with you and he stood by your side through all of it. He married you in spite of knowing you might die the next day because he loved you so much and wanted to show you.

Izzie: (Looks down in guilt)

Amber: You were his first love…and you tore him down so easily and without hesitation. You ran away, you left a goddamn note, and you pretended like nothing ever happened. Nothing you say or do is gonna make up for the fact that you almost broke the person who is the reason I am alive. Alex raised me when my parents didn't, he was there for me during the second worst moment of my life even if it was just for a little bit and committed his own brother for me. Do you understand how I could be so angry at you on his behalf? After everything he did for me did you honestly expect me to welcome you back like none of that ever happened?

Izzie: (Sniffles and nods understandably)

Amber: I owe Alex, Aaron and Jo everything and I owe you nothing and certainly not my forgiveness.

(Amber and Izzie stay silent for a tense moment)

Amber: (Sighs) But the least I owe you is a second chance. (Izzie looks up hopeful) A final chance for us to be a family. Because even though I dislike you so intensely for what you did in my brother's past I love you for what you brought me in my present and nothing will change that. What do you say?

Izzie: (Nods) I'm not exactly ready to forgive you either but yeah, I'd like that. Thank you.

Amber: Your welcome…I guess I'll see you later.

Izzie: See you later.

(Izzie leaves the room with Amber laying back exhausted)
