" Today is the twelfth day since I arrived in this new world, or at least I think it is. It's hard to say exactly how long it's been since I spent a lot of time doing research… Way more time than I would like to admit. But when you have the equivalent of a search engine in your head and you're in a new world with monsters and skills, why would you just run out into the world without learning what you could? I know manga and anime often have characters who just run out into the world and accidentally discover they're overpowered but really if they didn't have poor armor, I'm sure most of them would die! And despite the similarities of my situation to an Isekai manga I refuse to be like those ridiculous characters. Great, now I'm getting off topic." I let out a sigh as I realized I had just written all my thoughts into the journal. Yes, the whole point of keeping a journal was to keep track of my thoughts and the events that transpired but I still would prefer to keep my journal more organized.
In the back of my head, I could almost hear a voice teasing me for being so worried over such a minor detail. "Come on, you're going to look like an old man before your time. And I'd rather people didn't think I'm dating a creepy older guy." I let out a chuckle at the memory, Tora would always tease me about my almost obsessive need to get details correct though I preferred to say that I was just focused. But really considering I may have spent a day or two doing research with the skill All of Creation it was hard to deny I would go overboard. And the possibly two days were in real-time, most of the time I had been using thought acceleration which would mean the time I spent doing research was much more than two days. I did stop once to take a nap but even then I couldn't help myself but attempt a small experiment with a theory I had after studying the nature of a certain skill. Using a parallel process to run self-regeneration at a low level while I slept allowed my mind to rest and recover at an accelerated rate so I was able to attain 12hrs worth of deep sleep in only around 3 hrs.
As for how I knew how long I slept? I simply set another parallel process to keep track of how long I slept. The result was certainly exciting, if I could have used such a skill back home, I probably would have used it to get so much more done. And once again I proved Tora right…the thought made me put my pencil down, and a feeling of loneliness filled my heart. I stared at my hands, my skin was now a light brown, with no signs of my old age. Setting aside my book and pencil I walked to the pool of water, the light from the small fire I had made reflected off the pretend water, not that I needed the light to see but it was a nice comfort. And I preferred to see myself with my own eyes rather than through skill.
Looking at myself it was hard to accept my new appearance. My height seemed to be around 135cm, my hair was now a deep shade of purple with several strands being a lighter shade. My new hair ran down going just past the nape of my neck, bangs framed a soft face, and the darker skin and hair only made my bright silver eyes stand out more. Overall with my build being slim, and with an androgynous appearance, it would be hard for others to tell if I was a boy or a girl. Luckily when I took this form I found I still had all my parts so I was definitely a male.
I like to think my clothes gave me a more masculine appearance, I wore a dark green hooded vest that ran down to just above my knees much like a trench coat except I had it closed and it had no sleeves. Under it, I wore a charcoal gray shirt, and brown loose trousers tucked into black heavy boots, and the last part of my look was a set of fingerless gloves that reached a little past my elbows.
Maybe it was a bit of a cliche look but hey, I like the way it looks. I'm sure Tora would have liked it…I let out a sigh, lately thinking of my late wife made my heart ache almost as much as the first few years after she died. I kept on thinking "Tora would have loved this. I wonder how she would have reacted. That would have made her laugh." It was hard to not think of her after all the time we spent talking about fantasy stories. Or the nights we spent watching anime together or working on the next volume of a manga or light novel. Here I was living in a world we could only imagine, and I wished I could share it with her. "I'm sorry Tora, I'm trying to move on but it's not easy. It's never been easy since you left love. And now I don't even have our great niece and nephew."
The thought only made my heart ache and I had to take a deep breath to steady myself and keep myself from crying. I may have known that I would soon leave them behind but the thought that I could have Tora waiting for me on the other side had been a comfort. But now? Now I wondered if I would ever see her again, for all I know this world may have a different afterlife. This world may very well have taken me away from everything and everyone I had ever known, not even the hope of seeing them at the end of my life. But it had also given me a new life, and a chance to live out a dream me and Tora had always had.
How pathetic, even after making that declaration right as I died, I still can't seem to live up to my promise. "Dam it…Tora, love I wish you could be here with me. I don't know if you can see or even hear me. But please watch over me as I explore this world. I'm going to see what this world has to offer and live the life we often wished we could have lived." Right, even if I didn't have the resolve to live for myself then I'll live for her and honor her memory by living with no regrets.
I didn't want to give myself time to doubt my decision, so I grabbed the few possessions I had, a leather satchel packed with a few strips of dried fish I managed to catch from a large stream outside the cave, along with some bits of fruit and mushrooms I had managed to scrounge up thanks to my skills analysis letting me know what was edible. Through my research, I learned that my species (Archdragons) could go several days without food or water so long as I was exposed to an area with a good amount of ambient magicules. Which was good since the simple food didn't have much flavor, it was still better than going around with an empty stomach and relying on just magicules.
Water wasn't a concern, with help from my skills I learned about the different types of magic though I only got the most basic descriptions.
Elemental Magic: By manipulating the magicules in the surrounding area to bend the laws of nature using incantations and the user's willpower.
Spiritual magic: By forming a bond with a spiritual being one can use the spirit's power to cast powerful magic. This branch of magic obeys the laws of physics and is not affected by ambient magicules.
Holy Magic: Magic of a holy nature that has a negative effect on magicules.
Inscription/engraving magic: Magic that allows the user to "enchant" people or objects with spells which allows them to use magic and skills without having the related knowledge or skills.
As it turns out my sub-skill Inscription was a highly advanced version of engraving magic that allowed me to instantly enchant something with a spell I already discovered or created. If done properly I could rapidly fire multiple spells at the same time so long as the enchantment had enough magicules stored. Unfortunately, it seemed that if the material you enchanted wasn't strong enough it would cause either a misfire or the item would straight up explode. It took a few tries before I was able to successfully enchant an item. A bit of side info, it turns out that combining my skills Voice of change, and inscription drastically increased the chance of an item being successfully enchanted and could even be used to manipulate the very nature of an item creating something new.
The result of my experimentation is the clothes I'm wearing, all of it was enchanted with a basic spell of damage resistance, while it did buff my physical defense the main thing was that since I created it using my magicules it was able to respond to my will and with the enchantments woven into the material it would not be easy to tear. And while I had experimented I simply didn't know enough about magic to do anything more than simple elemental magic so creating more complicated items just wasn't possible. Even with all of creation if I didn't have a good base knowledge of the subject then I couldn't access more information. I would need to find someone who could teach me more advanced magic and about crafting magic items.
So for the time being I would rather rely on elemental magic, which wasn't very difficult for me to use. All it is, is focusing on one's willpower and using the available magicules both internal and external to make their will a reality. And if that failed I could rely on my other skills, I was able to test them out on a few of the native creatures. Mostly on those giant bats, or rather I should call them energy bats. Turns out their a relative to another monster that was just called a giant bat. Not the most creative names but eh, they described them pretty accurately. The main difference was that energy bats could gain temporary skills by draining a monster's magicules though they could still use a monster's blood and they often hunted in groups, as a result, they were considered a rank C+, making them superior to their cousins.
And considering the other monsters, I had managed to spot when I left the cave, their skills made sense. I had spotted the occasional wyvern, a lesser dragon (as the name implies they are weaker versions of an arch dragon), and a creature called Terra-rams. Terra-rams we're like a cross between a ram and a mountain goat but massive compared to either creature. They seemed to be about 1 3/4 meters tall but a male bull could easily reach 2 meters a normal terra-ram could rank C+ but a bull could reach the rank B-. And despite their bulk, they were fast, agile, and incredibly strong, but considering there was a change of running into dragons in the area it only made sense any creatures that lived in this mountain range would need to be tough.
In my first run-in with a male bull, the thing had nearly rammed me with a sneak attack. I had been able to avoid its curved horns so it instead ran into a boulder twice its size. But instead of being injured or even dazed, the thing shattered the boulder and then turned around to face me. It was apparently able to cover its horns with a layer of stone and then launched the rock shell on its horns at me like a freaking cannonball! In the end, I managed to use one of my new skills to beat the thing and send it running. And while I did manage to get its horns as a nice souvenir I learned my lesson to not underestimate any creatures I ran across.
With that in mind, I picked up a pair of identical military combat knives. These were the other things I managed to make using my skills. Both were made of Tungsten Carbide with an enchantment to resist damage which would hopefully keep the blades sharp and keep them from breaking. I slid the blades into sheathes woven into my vest, one on my chest and another across small of my back. And the last bit of equipment I made was a wooden staff I enchanted with the same damage resistance. Physical resistance was the easiest enchantment I could use since I just had to apply my physical damage resistance skill. It wouldn't do anything against an elemental magic attack but it was still better than nothing.
Looking at my reflection with all my gear equipped and my hood up, I looked pretty cool if I do say so myself, like a mysterious adventure or wanderer. "Heh, looking pretty good." With that little self-indulgence, I walked back to the fire and with a snap of my fingers, a vibration ran through the air and into the fire making it sputter out. Casting the cave back into darkness, but with magic sense running on a constant I had no problem adjusting to the dark.
Plus, I decided to use my other skill to get in more practice as I followed the small stream of water flowing down a downward-sloping tunnel. The skill I was using was the same as the one I used to put out the fire. It's called Sound Manipulation, it's an extra skill I developed along with Vibration Detection, and ground shockwave. I couldn't help but feel a little proud of the new skills. After all, it had taken a lot of work and creativity to earn them. And it all started when I acquired two simple skills from the energy bats I faced.
After beating the first group of bats I ended up being attacked by a bigger swarm. I can only guess they had been attracted to the smell of the other bats' blood. In hindsight, not doing something about the bodies was a big mistake. But it all turned out well, after killing them I decided to run multiple analyses on them using parallel process and thought acceleration. The result was a complete analysis which seemed to mean I had gathered all the information from them. And apparently having done so meant that if I used Converter to break them apart and fuse their magicules into my own I had a better chance of gaining skills that were compatible with my body. It was only a chance though and it was only after some 16 attempts did I manage to acquire two skills. The rest didn't give me anything except increase my magical count by a good amount which left me feeling like I had the flu. My whole body ached and I could barely move for a couple of hours.
A downside of Converter was it seemed if I fused too many magicules into my body at once I had a chance to gain magicule sickness. Still, I would say it was worth it for the skills I gained.
Energy drain: When in physical contact magicules, stamina, and blood can be drained from the victim. A chance to temporarily gain skills at 80 percent power or more is possible depending on the power of the skills.
Ultrasonic Wave: Sound waves can be used to interpret one's surroundings. It can also apply confusion, incapacitating the target or knocking the target unconscious.
Energy drain seemed like it could be used with converter to allow me to steal and collect magicules more efficiently and by then storing them into my 'storage' it was a good way to keep extra magicules saves up for an emergency.
Ultrasonic Waves, however, was by far the better find, with some creative thinking and a basic understanding of how sound works I was able to develop skills that allowed me to develop other skills. The initial thought had been to use my dragon sense skill to enhance my hearing and use the ultrasonic skill to see what happened. The result was painful, but that made me wonder if I could raise and lower my voice to have different effects. And that led me to using the power up and magic aura of my dragon knight skill to specifically enhance my voice while trying to make my voice higher and lower. The result was the skill frequency manipulation and the extra skill sound cannon.
That seemed to complete what could be called a branch of sound skills that combined frequency manipulation, sound cannons, and ultrasound waves into the extra skill sound manipulation. Which allowed me to create massive sound-based attacks as well as giving me superior sensitivity to subtle sound vibrations.
It wasn't until I fought the Terra-ram that I had another idea of how to apply my new skill. Using sound manipulation alongside dragon senses, I sent a sound wave into the ground through my hand. The initial result was it tearing apart the ground but with some fine-tuning I was able to send the sound waves through the ground and have them bounce back similar to how scientists use seismic technology to locate underground structures, pockets of natural gas, and the like. The results were two new skills, Vibration detection and Ground shockwave.
Vibration Detection: Ability to sense even the weakest vibrations or slight change in vibrations in the area.
Ground Shockwave: A tremor that can destroy or liquify the ground in a small area depending on the intensity of the shockwave and the strength of the ground.
A useful set of skills that I looked forward to testing out though I still planned to be cautious, through my research it seemed I was currently an A+ ranked monster due to my magicule count. Though the rank didn't seem to count combat ability or skills so it seemed like a rather flawed system, but in general I suppose it could be a good way to have some idea of what you would be up against. Best to be careful in any case, so far I had only faced things much weaker than myself but considering I was an 'Arch' which usually meant a greater monster there seemed to be a similarity to other fantasy media like a video game. And if that's the case then titles like Lord or King may exist in a way that refers to beings at the top of their race. And with a quick search my suspicions were confirmed, Lords are among the highest level monsters such as demon lords and dragon lords. "I really hope I don't run into one of those."
It almost made me consider going back into the cave and trying to do some more research or make more preparations. But just as I had thought I reached the end of the tunnel. The first time I saw what was outside the tunnel I had been stunned, and even now the sight had me awestruck. I was on the side of a mountain overlooking a valley. On either side, massive mountains seemed to help keep cloud formations from entering or leaving which would explain why the mountains themselves were mostly bare, but the valley was filled with trees and other vegetation, a long river split the valley stretching far out to the east and west. From so high above it may look deceptively small but the valley had to be several kilometers wide, and I had no idea how far it reached.
"Well…this is it, at the risk of sounding cheesy. It's time to start my new life of adventure." I could feel my heart racing, and even the ache in my heart whenever I thought about the family I had lost wasn't as bad as the excitement filled me. And with a spur-of-the-moment idea, I walked to the edge of the cave, a large drop of several meters leading down to a small clearing with a stream running south where it would meet up with the central river. And before I could think better, I held my hands out to either side and let myself tip forward and off the edge.
My heart raced as I quickly approached the ground, but I didn't panic, nor did I take my dragon form. I waited a few seconds before I activated my skill Change Form. In less than a second I had changed and opening my wings I stopped falling and soared a few meters above the tree line. I had changed into my 'hybrid' form, most of my body was covered in scales almost like a bodysuit of scales. My head, face, and a small bit of my chest was the only part of me not covered in scales. I did have a few scales on my jawline and partially on my cheeks along with a few scales just under my hairline were two horns grew out of my head, the scales on my chest mostly covered the area closer to my sides and shoulder creating a V shape that only just covered my nipples before the point of the V ended just above my groin. I wasn't exactly a fan of how the scale growth gave off a slightly 'risqué' appearance.
But it was hard to complain when the tradeoff was a buff in defense, claws sharper than my knives, and the ability to fly at speeds I wasn't even sure of. But now as I floated above the trees and decided what way I wanted to go I decided to find out just how fast I could go, so with a smile I turned to the east and flew upstream.
"Day 43, it's been a couple of weeks since I last wrote down anything in this journal aside from a few small notes on local flora and a few of the fauna. My main reason for writing now is that I followed the mountain's west then north and found the sea. For the most part I haven't had any problems. I've run into a few monsters; I was attacked by a small flock of wyverns, but they were about as easy to beat as the energy bats. Analyzing them and using converter did result in a nice boost in magicules and the resist negative effect skill. Their use of coercion and the attacks of the energy bats helped me to gain the resistance. So, exposure to damage or negative effects could lead to new resistance, an important thing to know in the future. If I'm careful I could expose myself to different types of damage, so long as I'm capable of healing using self-regeneration it's a possibility though not one I would like to wait until I'm able to obtain some other healing ability or magic."
It took me several minutes to write down the other small things that happened. Like learning that I could control how much and what part of a monster to convert into magicules. Which was pretty useful in gathering the skins of a few Terra-rams. I figured their fur might be useful for trading when I find a human village. I also learned that Terra-ram meat is a bit chewy and not very appetizing. Honestly, at this point, I feel like I would kill for some white rice. It's not something I had considered before but living off the land sucks for a variety of reasons, not least of which is that food doesn't taste nearly as good. But my current location gives me hope I'll catch something nice.
So using my skills I made a nice fishing rod and lure and walked to the edge of the beach and with a hard swing I got my lime out nice and far. Hopefully, I'll catch something tasty for dinner.
The sun had begun its descent an hour ago and still nothing. I had been spending the time doing small bits of research but I was careful to be aware of my fishing rod for the slightest movement. A few slight tugs were all, honestly, I was starting to despair and even considered just flying out there and using magic sense to find something and blast a fish out of the water. The idea only grew more appealing when suddenly my fishing rod was almost pulled out of my hands. But there was no way I was going to let that happen!
I tightened my grip on the rod and began a short but fierce battle with whatever creature I caught. My question was answered when a massive fish with a horn leaped out of the water. Immediately I used thought acceleration and analysis to learn everything I could about it. Over the last month or so I had worked hard on improving my analysis ability, now I didn't even need to use parallel process to get all the information but I still used it as a backup analysis to make sure I got everything. I let out a cheer when I learned what I had caught was a fish called a Spear Toro and they were very similar to a Tuna.
My mouth was already watering at the thought of some nice fatty tuna steaks! Memories of some of my favorite meals ran through my mind, and unfortunately, it was at that moment my dreams were crushed. With a massive spray of water, a colossal mouth opened and swallowed my catch in one gulp. Another even larger burst of water occurred when the giant serpent like monster crashed back into the water, where it stayed on the surface, seemingly happy with 'its' catch.
But by then I was already on the move, "You bastard! That was my CATCH!" I had watched the moment as it stole my fish with perfect clarity in slow motion. The rage of seeing what would have been my first delicious meal stolen was hard to describe. My thoughts were only on destroying this creature that b to take what's mine when my body moved. I felt my clothes and gear disappear as they reacted to my will and were sucked into my storage skill, it was a task I had set to a parallel function so I could assume my dragon form without worrying about destroying my gear.
I felt a ping in the back of my mind as my analysis was complete, if I was thinking clearly then I would have probably just bit my tongue and let the monster leave. Because the results of my analysis revealed the monster was called a King Sea serpent easily recognized by the long pure white mane of hair on its head along with three massive spiraled horns, they were classified as an upper-rank Special A class monster. A creature even an A+ rank monster would have run from, not to mention in my dragon form I was about 14 meters long from snout to tail and the monster was easily four times my size.
Even still, I was the one to strike the first blow by ramming into the side of its neck. I nearly bounced off after the initial impact but I grabbed onto its neck, front claws sinking into the tough skin and drawing blood. Activating Dragon knight for the magic aura, along with sound manipulation, and ground shockwave I sent a massive shockwave of sound vibrations into its body through my claws. The effect was instant, the King serpent bellowed in pain as I increased the frequency. Strong vibrations caused by sound waves could destroy cancer cells, and at a certain point, the sound could cause soft tissue such as muscles and blood vessels. And thanks to my location being on its neck close to its head the monster was having its insides liquified.
The serpent thrashed and howled in pain it shot jets of highly compressed water from its mouth, normally that compressed water could cut a hole through steel sinking any ship that entered its domain. But this time it worked against the creature as large amounts of blood leaked from its mouth and mixed with the water. I smirked as I clung onto its body not letting it throw me off, I wrapped my tail around its neck and sunk my lower claws into it. Though I was still using my wings to keep the creature from sinking back into the water.
Its cries of pain and thrashing became more violent and desperate as the constant vibrations applied the confusion effect, and in all its thrashing it made a desperate move by lunging to the shore where it slammed its head into the ground trying to throw me off. It succeeded as I was forced to let go and fly above its head as it slammed into some jagged rock only injuring itself further. For a moment it stopped moving and I thought I had won only for it to shoot out another stream of condensed water nearly clipping my wings as it shot water wildly. The holes I had left on its neck were already closing so it seemed to have a regeneration ability that was stronger than mine. "That's bad, if I don't keep up the attack any damage I did will vanish. In that case, I need to keep up the attack!"
I sucked in a breath and once again used my sound combination but this time I also used Dragon Knight to its maximum. Dragon strength was a power-up skill that at its base level doubled my physical power but I could push it further by using up more magicules, the max I was able to use multiplied my physical strength fivefold. That alone was good, but it did nothing for any magic or skills that weren't of a physical nature. But that was where Dragon Knight shined, because of the magic aura effect I could apply other skills' effects or the effect of magic to myself including my other skills. So combining Dragon knight with my sound-based skills I could multiply the power of my sound manipulation to the point it was several time more powerful than any sonic boom in my old world and I could keep it going so long as I had enough magicules and by focusing the attack it was made all the deadlier.
"Alright bastard this is the end of the line, Death roar!" I unleashed my strongest move, and a massive boom went through the area shattering rocks and making the water churn, but that was just the small amount of sound that escaped the focused area. The real target had been the head of the King serpent and the effect was devastating, instantly the creature's eyes burst into sprays of blood, it screeched in pain gushing blood from every orifice on its head. It only lasted three seconds before it collapsed on the jagged rocks near the shore, but I didn't let up. If I gave it the chance it could heal so I kept it up until I felt my magicules starting to drop dangerously low. I stopped my roar and flew straight towards the monster and slammed my claws into its neck and used my skill converter to convert the closes area of the neck and the head to separate the two makings sure it was well and truly dead.
I was breathing heavily as I stared at my dead opponent, that had been the hardest fight of my life, even if it had only lasted a few minutes I was exhausted and my magicule levels were at about 32 percent. "Shit, that was seriously reckless." It was then that I noticed all the data I had acquired from the monster and that only made me feel more stupid for taking on a monster that was so much stronger than me. If I didn't have my current skill set I would have stood no chance and if it had gotten one good hit on me that might have knocked me into the sea and that would have been the end of me. "Okay, I need to be more careful in the future…but still not that the fight is over…that was amazing! I had no idea my Death roar would be so powerful!"
I couldn't stop myself from laughing, the same feeling I had before when I had fought the bats when I first arrived in this world filled me again. A sense of pride and accomplishment with no sense of disappointment, I felt energized by the knowledge I had managed to defeat such a powerful monster using just my own skills and intuition. This was something I loved, the feeling of accomplishment after hard work and dedication. "It's a shame I'm missing out on a tasty meal…I wonder if this thing would taste good? I'm not the biggest fan of eel though…Hmmm?"
Something in the water caught my eyes, using dragon senses I was able to see about a dozen large fish floating in the water. It seemed they had gotten caught up in my battle and given that I didn't see any damage except for blood leaking out of their eyes and mouths they must have been killed by my Death roar. I felt a big smile grow on my face, "Looks like I'm going to have myself a feast tonight!"
Over an hour of work later I was all set to begin cooking, I had collected all the Spear Toro in my dragon form and dragged the body of the King serpent onto dry land where they wouldn't be stolen though I'm pretty sure everything nearby had fled during the fight. I used converter on the King Serpent turning most of it into magicules and fused a large amount with myself to fully restore my magicules, I found out that fusing magicules into myself when my stores were low greatly reduced the magicules sickness while still increasing my overall magicules levels by the same amount. It was an exploit I would be happy to use in the future, but back to the serpent I found out through my analysis that their scales, teeth, major bones, hair, and most of all their horns were worth a ton of money. So I saved those and stored them in my storage, I would need to find a big city if I wanted to sell those but I could find a merchant who would be willing to buy them at a discount. I didn't need money right now so I would be willing to be generous. I also obtained a few new skills thanks to converter and parallel process giving me all the data I needed. I had obtained the skill Water manipulation, lightning manipulation, wind manipulation, and ice manipulation, and my self-regeneration evolved into ultra-speed regeneration. Turns out the reason King serpents are so dangerous is that each horn concentrates a magical element, not including their natural water element. The one I killed hadn't fully developed all its abilities which meant it must have evolved recently and the confusion it was hit with thanks to my skills made it rely on its most powerful skill water manipulation, so I had gotten very lucky in the fight.
With that aside so came the most important part, cooking up some tasty tuna! I know it's called a Spear Toro but I wasn't willing to let go of my hope that it would taste just like tuna. And thanks to my hybrid form and a little use of converter I was able to carefully clean and slice up one of the fish. My mouth was watering when I saw the tender pink flesh underneath, it really did look just like tuna. With some careful slices using my knives and claws I split the tender meat into several well-shaped steaks. As for how I would cook it? That was easy, using voice of change I made a large stone metal sheet and placed it on some large rocks I flattened out with my claws. Then I used magic to create a powerful flame to preheat the metal sheet, I had to be fast but thanks to parallel process I was able to cook up half the fish in one go. I also used my new ice control to freeze the rest of the fish, thanks to the skill the ice wouldn't melt unless some serious fire magic was used or I willed the ice to melt. So those went into my storage, luckily the ice prevented the magicules I had stored from tainting them, I was really coming to love my skills.
So after a few minutes, my fish steaks were done, I created a fork and used my enchanted knife to cut the meat. "It looks perfect! The outside is well-cooked but the center is still the right shade of pink! I'm so glad I took that cooking course with Tora!" I carefully raised a small piece of meat to my mouth, my excitement even distracted me from the fact my heart didn't ache as much when I thought about my wife. The first bite was… incredible, even though I had nothing to help flavor the meat it still tasted just like it did at home, no, for some reason it tasted even better. After that, I dove in without hesitation, and after I finished the first half I cooked and devoured the second half of the fish. Even in my human or hybrid form, I was capable of eating the same amount of food as my dragon form. I have no idea how that works but I wasn't going to complain, and I didn't even have to worry about being overly full, using converter when I'm digesting my food meant that everything was absorbed into my body. So I got the full nutrients with no loss whatsoever, which also meant I had no need to go to the bathroom, another plus of having the skill converter.
After I was done eating I looked out to the sea, now that the battle was over the waves had washed away most of the blood from the fight, with the sun shining on the sea as it continued its descent. It was a beautiful sight, I wished Tora was here to see it with me, she would have insisted on going for a swim saying that if another monster showed up she would be the one to end it no doubt. If I had gotten this strong so quickly I have no doubt she would be twice as strong. The thought comforted me, even when if she wasn't here the thought of what she would do in this situation helped me clear my thoughts and for a moment I didn't feel so alone.
I was in some deep thought because by the time I realized it the sun was setting and the area I was in grew dark thanks to mountains far to the east and west. I felt no cold so I decided to enjoy the night, my parallel process was set up to alert me if any monsters came near me and to wake me up once the sun rose. So for a while, I stayed up and watched the stars, the gentle sound of the waves soothed my mind and slowly I nodded off to sleep. My dream that night was strange, I was being pulled along without a body, and stars and planets passed me by in a blur. And then everything slowed down, in the corner of my eyes I saw a dark figure, massive in size with the stars seeming to gleam from his body. I had less than a second to see or hear but its voice rang clear, "Hmm…and interesting skill and a mind with the potential to one day use it to its fullest. I'll keep an eye on you, maybe you'll be the one to…."
I heard nothing else as I shot past the strange figure, then the scene changed, I was back in the cave where I first appeared in this world. That was when I woke up, the sun still hadn't fully risen so the beach was still dark but there was a faint glow on the horizon. The dream still echoed in my mind, it had felt so real as if it was more of a memory than a dream. I pondered over the dream for a few minutes but with no information, I had no way to know who or what that figure could have been, nor did I have a way to understand the final words. Now I wondered if that figure was real could it be watching me? It was concerning but with nothing to be done about it I decided to keep going. Changing into my hybrid form I gathered all my equipment and used converter to clean up any of the mess I had made the day before. It was tempting to eat another of the fish but I didn't want to be greedy and go through my whole supply at once.
Flying up I set several parallels process to analyze my new skills and flew southwest, earlier during my travel I had noticed a small gap in the mountains and I figured that it might be another way out of the mountain range, I could try flying over them but what would be the fun in just rushing through everything. I was in no rush and I wanted to enjoy the feeling of flying high above the ground and feeling the cool air and clouds tickling my skin.
Hey everyone I'm booklover and I am so happy to have the second chapter out so soon! And I'm excited about all the attention this has gotten so soon, seriously it hasn't been up that long and I've already gotten a couple of followers and favorites. Even two comments that made me smile, and as a response for you two. First I understand it seems like my oc is a dragon god but hopefully, this chapter has helped you to see the limitations he has, I have nothing against op characters but I'm hoping my character will demonstrate that his power comes from his clever mind and his way of thinking. I really put a bit of myself into this character with how I often wonder how certain rules or applications of magic could be used to create certain effects.
Second, my dude...honestly, I wasn't too sure about your request I mean I love Rimeru just the way he is but I won't deny I've had a couple of thoughts about what if our cute slime did indeed inherit Shizu's gender. Let's face it we've all thought about it once or twice. As for whether it's going to happen? Well, you'll just have to wait and see, I won't reveal to much of the plot but let's say I think you'll enjoy the next chapter.
Also, what do you guys think of my character's design? I love how in the manga and light novel Rimeru being thought of as a girl is so much more common and if you read the spin-off slime diaries it's an even bigger thing with lots of funny and cute scenes that I absolutely adore.
Last thing, I want to shout out Shad from Shadaversity (Youtube channel) he wrote an amazing book called shadow of the conqueror, his character design for the main character was a huge inspiration for my own character and helped push my mind and creativity while still keeping to a certain level of logical thinking. I also want to shout out Magnus9284 another great author and a big inspiration for me. That's all everyone I hope you enjoyed chapter two and are looking forward to the next one!
