A few days after the battle against Whitney

"So Morty will be meeting you here?" Cassie asked, looking around the back alleys of the city.

"That's what he said, but as to why he wanted to meet me here of all places, you'd think he'd want to meet us near the Pokemon Center, or somewhere more open." Ash said with a groan.

"Well, you said you had a ghost Pokemon situation, and after the last time we worked together, I figured if you were calling for me now, it had to be serious." Morty said.

"Morty hi, I was just talking on my Pokegear." Ash lied.

"Relax, I can see her, your secret is safe with me." Morty said, looking right at Cassie. "I realized you could see her when she followed us the last time."

"And you didn't say anything to us the entire time?!" Cassie exclaimed.

"It didn't seem to be the time for this, but what is our issue this time? What kind of ghosts are we dealing with; invasive, oppressive, attacking, or vindictive?" Morty asked.

"Training." Ash said, sending out Misdreavus. "I'm trying to get a badge from the local gym leader, but she is an expert with normal type Pokemon, and they are far from easy to fight against."

"An impressive capture." Morty said, looking at Misdreavus. "So what is the problem, a ghost type shouldn't have a problem against a normal type."

"The problem is the only attack she seems to be able to pull off is Psywave." Cassie pointed out.

"I see, well unfortunately while ghost type Pokemon are immune to normal type attacks, the opposite is also true. A ghost type attack will do nothing against a normal type Pokemon." Morty said.

"So you can't help us." Ash sighed.

"I never said that, and I still owe you for your assistance back in Lavender Town, so I will help you with some moves, but it won't be easy." Morty said.

"When is it ever easy?" Ash questioned.

"Too true." Morty said with a chuckle. "The upward movement from Psywave to Psybeam isn't as big as many trainers believe the change to be."

"Psybeam, that's another Psychic type attack, right?" Cassie asked.

"Very astute." Morty commented. "And I can help her gain that strength. Time for an old friend of ours to return. Come on out Gengar!"

Gengar flew out of his Pokeball, spinning around Misdreavus before the two moved up and danced around Cassie.

"Ghosts can see you too?" Ash asked.

"I mean, we're all ghosts, at least sort of." Cassie admitted. "Even if this isn't exactly a normal situation."

"So this is the Gengar we helped a while ago?" Ash asked.

"The very one, and he happens to know the move Psychic. Teaching Misdreavus the in between shouldn't be too difficult." Morty commented. "Let's get started. Gengar use Psychic!"

"Misdreavus use Psywave!"

The two attacks collided, the stream of Gengar's perfectly straight while Misdreavus's was very wavy and shaky.

"Now try to have Misdreavus get closer to Gengar's stream." Morty commented.

"Alright Misdreavus, try and straighten it, get the stream a bit stronger." Ash called out.

Misdreavus focused, as she tried getting closer to matching the larger ghosts attack stream.

"Great work, now that she has the idea of it, let's see how she does on her own. Gengar stop!" Morty commanded, the psychic attack stopping on the dot.

"Alright Misdreavus, let's try this again, use Psybeam!" Ash called out.

A slightly wavy beam shot out from Misdreavus's pearls, not nearly as wavy as Psywave, but not as straight as Psychic, a middle ground of sorts before the attack stopped suddenly.
