Parts and Service

2:00 PM
It was the afternoon and Mangle after her latest workout session at Mazercise, got a text from Foxy to meet her in parts and service, she headed down still in her workout attire consisting of a black sports bra, black sweatpants, black sneakers. She made her way down to the basement, using Roxanne's part's and service elevator to get there, since Bonnie was performing a solo on the stage, she couldn't use the stage elevator in the atrium at this time. Admittedly she had taken a moment to look around Roxanne's green room, the lights hadn't been turned on in a while since her disappearance, trying to hold back a tear and Mangle knows Foxy didn't have it in him to go into her room or her apartment since she was taken.
Mangle did not have a direct elevator into parts and service from her green room unlike the four main glamrock animatronics in the band. They were still the only ones who had direct access to parts and service, but Freddy was working on a plan to construct more passageways underground from everyone else's green rooms.
She made her way through the long hallway into the platform and stairs behind the operating chamber. She could see Foxy waiting at the front of the repair chamber.
"Hey, what's up hun?" Mangle asked.
"Your guess is as good as mine lass, will see." The pirate fox man replied.
She then saw Kellen standing next to him.
"Kellen? What are you doing here? Did something happen?" Mangle asked with concern.
"No, no, we actually called you down, because we wanted to offer you an upgrade." Kellen said.
"An upgrade? I already have all my latest software patches and bug fixes. And I can download those from anywhere I am at. I think I'm all set…Wait is this a hardware upgrade?" Mangle asked.
"Yes. And it's one that I think will help you in difficult situations. One that may seem familiar." Kellen said.
"Okay, go on." Mangle said.
"So the first Mangle model…." Kellen started but saw Mangle's reaction.
"I'm sorry….I know it's hard to talk about that night." He said.
"It's fine, I can deal…Anyway, Kellen continue." Mangle said.
"Okay. So that Mangle had the ability to scale walls and ceilings, in ways that should have not been possible for a robot of that era. From what we do know, the only way it was possible for that Mangle model to do that, was through paranormal abilities, yes, I said paranormal abilities, granted by the use of remnant, when William Afton rebuilt her after her last incident with children." Kellen explained.
"I mean, not shocking given she was powered by remnant when I fought her, anyway, Kellen where are you going with this?" Mangle asked.
"We have developed an upgrade that would allow a glamrock endoskeleton, to scale walls and surfaces, much like a gecko. And you were the first one we wanted to offer it to. It is still in the beta phase, but we wanted to see it get some use in real world scenarios outside the R&D lab, and you were the first one we had in mind." Kellen said.
"So my wife to be, is going to be your beta tester? Couldn't you guys have put it on one of the fresh glamrock endoskeleton's from the factory?" Foxy said.
"I mean we could have but then how am I and the team supposed to get real world data?" Kellen said with a grin.
"I could climb walls after?" Mangle asked.
"Yes, you would have the ability to scale any surface, much like a gecko. The technology is actually based upon current breakthroughs in gecko and adhesive research, where we now can use synthetic setae, similar to a real gecko's setae, to adhere to surfaces." Kellen said.
"Haha, well then, sign me up!" Mangle said.
"Wait what?" Foxy asked.
"That was easier than I thought." Kellen said.
"Mangle, are you sure you want to do this?" Foxy asked.
"Yes! Do you know how cool it would be to climb the walls in the Pizzaplex?" Mangle said.
"Okay then Kellen, you heard the lady." Foxy said.
"Okay, so let's do this!" Kellen said with excitement. He lead her to the repair chamber.
Mangle was instructed to remove her shoes since the work would require access to her feet and hands.
She did what was asked now with her shoes off.
"Okay. Let's do this." Mangle said getting onto the repair chair in the chamber. She laid back connecting the usb cable left near a computer in the terminal, to the port in the back of her neck, under a water tight skin flap she opened.
The fox woman waited for Kellen to get the machine ready, he was standing at the desktop computer outside the chamber. Foxy eyed the inside of the chamber, putting his hand on the glass window as he watched the love of his life. She smiled at him and told him "I'll be okay."
The procedure began as her systems went into sleep mode, closing her eyes, then she stopped moving.
"Manual mode has been activated. There will be no automatic assist during the procedure." The Dread Unit AI announced from the speakers.
Kellen entered the chamber himself. Pulling up a chair next to Mangle, with a rolling cart containing his tools. Normally in most upgrade and repair situations, Dread Unit would help handle most of it, but this procedure was so deliquated Kellen preferred to handle this one himself.
"Okay Mangle, here we go." Kellen said.
Kellen took the fox woman's left hand and proceeded to take a scalpel and slice off the top of the silicone, taking a thick layer of her white colored palms down to the thinnest layer before he would be coming up against her touch sensors, which were thin pads with circuitry in them, and the steel endoskeleton hand underneath the next layer, he then took a scalpel to make an incision in her wrist to gain access to some extra unused wiring that was present in all the glamrocks for additional components.
He opened a plastic wrapped pack of the prototype Fazbear Gecko Skin. The synthetic gecko skin came in a thick roll, like a roll of tape. He unrolled it, the tape had a layer of plastic on each side, to keep the tape layers from sticking to each other, much like industrial double sided tape. On the bottom part of the tape was metal contact points for electronic control. What made Fazbear's gecko tape unique was the ability to adjust or "turn off" the adhesive properties.
Kellen cut out a piece of the gecko material on his work table that matches the size and shape of the chunk of silicone he removed from the palm of Mangles hand. He removed the bottom layer of plastic on the piece to gain access to the adhesive that would allow it to stick to the deeper layer of silicone in Mangle's hand, but also to gain access to the wiring leads. He flipped the piece around so the exposed part was facing him on the table.
Kellen would take the exposed wiring in Mangle's left hand, use a wire stripper to strip the rubber of the ends of them to expose the copper wire, and then use a soldiering iron to soldier the wire ends on to the leads under the gecko skin. The bottom of the gecko skin had patterns printed on it from the factory to show which wires needed to be connected to the proper leads. The leads were clearly marked with symbols for ground wire, positive and other wires.
With the soldiering completed, he carefully applied a clear fast drying glue over the leads to keep any wires or metal from crossing the leads and shorting something out. He then set the connected gecko skin piece on the side, placing it on her left arm temporarily to hold it.
"What is he doing now?" Foxy asked silently from outside the glass.
Kellen then took a powerful glue that would seal the area, water tight once dried and applied it to the opening in her hand. Then he took the gecko skin and proceeded to seat it in place neatly before it dried. He carefully pulled the extra length of wiring back into her wrist.
His work was not done on the left hand yet. While the glue would hold things in place, he needed to make sure the gecko skin had no chance of ripping or peeling off. So he needed to heat up the outer area if the gecko skin with a super heated metal rod to seal the area and force the ends of silicone and gecko skin to melt into each other at the edges. Once he did that the hand was complete. He then sealed the wrist using the superheated rod, the edges melting together leaving a small mark where the incision was made.
Kellen then took a white dye and injected it into the gecko skin's top layer, to restore Mangle's white palms. The dye was fast drying. Now no one could not tell anything changed in her hand except for the wrist scar.
"There goes the first one, now the right hand, and two feet." Kellen said.
The procedure took an hour and a half to complete.
3:30 PM
Kellen and Foxy were chatting once Kellen had his process down to a science.
"Okay here we go Foxy, we're going to wake her up." Kellen said.
"I trust your judgement. Go ahead." Foxy said.
Kellen went back to the terminal outside the chamber and entered the wake up command.
"Proceeding with boot process now." Dread Unit said.
A warning chine echoed from the repair station speakers.
"Warning, new components detected, preparing firmware update." Dread Unit said.
"Is this normal?" Foxy asked.
"Yes, Dread Unit detected we installed a new component Mangle's systems have never seen before. So Dread Unit is just pushing the firmware update to her firmware chip, we developed that allows communication with the gecko skin and her operating system." Kellen said.
"Installation complete. Rebooting." Dread Unit said.
Mangle's systems then came to life, with Kellen seeing the startup output from her firmware to the terminal console on the computer.
Mangle's eyes opened once her systems finished initializing.
Foxy was already by her side when she opened her eyes.
"Hey, welcome back seastar." Foxy said holding her hand.
"Good to see you handsome. I don't think I could get tired of looking at you every time I wake up." Mangle said.
"I'm just glad you made it through lass." Foxy said.
"How long was I out for?" She asked.
"An hour and 30 minutes, that's how long it took me to perform the upgrades on you." Kellen said walking in the chamber with an iPad to go over his checklist.
Kellen went over his checklist, asking the usual questions he would ask the animatronics after perform an upgrade.
And everything matched up with the data he was getting from Mangle's systems.
"Okay, shall we test it?" He asked.
"Oh hell yeah." Mangle responded.
The fox woman walked up to one of the walls in parts and service.
"You can turn the adhesive properties on and off in your HUD anytime, try it." Kellen said.
"Alright." She said.
Mangle activated the adhesive in her hands, she then placed her hand on the cold basement cement wall to see it stuck to the wall, but she could still move her hand at will.
She placed her other hand on the wall.
"Okay…." She said.
Then she raised her right hand higher, lifting the hand then placing it higher. Once she figured out how to do that, she did the same with her left hand. Now she was hanging off the wall with both hands, raised off the ground only by a 2 feet.
"Holy shit!" She said out loud.
She then took her left foot and placed it on the wall.
"Oh my god. No fucking way." She said.
Mangle was now scaling the wall with ease, impressing herself.
"How does this even work?" She asked.
"Like I said, breakthroughs are being made through the research of gecko's paws. Speaking of which, our lab, is one of many around the world, that will be publishing scientific papers soon." Kellen said proudly.
Foxy was in awe, but also slightly scared. Mangle being able to scale the wall like her haunted predecessors, slightly terrified the fox, but he had reminded himself, she was not like the others.
She was now on the ceiling.
"Holy crap, the view from up here is amazing!" She shouted in excitement.
She then decided to let go, and drop back down landing on her feet with her already impressive agility.
She walked up to Kellen and then hugged him. He was taller than her but still she was a strong robot.
"Thank you so much." She said. He returned the hug.
"No problem, just make sure you give us feedback and more data as you use it okay?" Kellen asked.
"Of course!" Mangle replied.
"Okay you two, I'm heading back to my office, contact me if you need anything in the meantime." Kellen said.
"Will do. Thanks Kellen." Foxy said, as he and Mangle watched him head through one of the greenroom elevator halls to go back up.
Mangle then slipped her shoes back on.
"So hun, want to head to El Chips for lunch, I'm thinking tacos." Mangle said. Although they did not need to eat, they were getting accustomed to eating on a schedule like the humans, and in their case, eating for pleasure, since they did enjoy the flavors their sensors can pick up. Also the food would be broken down in their next-generation processing units into an electrical charge for their batteries. Also, the animatronics enjoyed going out to eat because, it was also provided a means of bonding, much like humans do.
"Yeah, before that, there is something I wanted to show you at the garage." Foxy said.
"Oh?" Mangle asked.
"Yeah, something I've been working on. C'mon." Foxy said, as she took his hand.
