Here's chapter 24 everybody!
Chapter 24: Awakening.
Danny, Dani and the Reaper Squadron has arrived at a area of the Atlantic Ocean southwest and close to the nearby Azores Islands where they have meet up with four US Navy P-8 Poseidon submarine patrol aircraft and their F/A-18E Super Hornet escorts. The first thing Danny and Dani noticed is the sunset in front of them as well as the US naval fleet that has join in the operation to help sink the Phonoi. Danny and Dani then put their aircraft thrusters into full throttle to start the mission.
"Well, it's time for some treasure hunting, Danny." Dani said.
"You said it, Dani." Danny said.
"Oh boy, I'm excited." Daniel said.
"Hey, stop screwing around!" Jessica said.
"Don't be such a hothead, Razor. We all know what'll happen if we screw up." Dani said.
"Let's hope not. The fate of the Earth and the Ghost Zone depends on this mission." Damian said.
"Not to mention our love ones. Got Sam back two years ago and plan to marry her. I don't want to lose her or die without marrying her." Danny said.
"Same situation with me and Jacob." Dani said.
As Danny, Dani and the Reaper Squadron began their mission, the four P-8 Poseidon aircraft began to spread out across the mission area in order to prepare dropping some sonobuoys with their escorts staying close to them.
"This is patrol aircraft Ghoul 1. We'll deploy the sonobuoy barrier! We're all prepared to buy the farm, and that's why there's so many of us. According to calculations, just one needs to fly to locate it." a patrol aircraft pilot said.
"Those aren't the sort of calculations we like, are they, Danny?" Dani asked.
"Yep." Danny said.
"Darn right! Same for the rest of us, too!" Jessica said.
Meanwhile, the Phonoi's air wing that has been in the air waiting for Danny, Dani and Reaper Squadron to show finally noticed their arrival and flies at top speed to intercept them, which cause AWACS Goodfellow's attention.
"They're here as predicted! Detecting hostiles! They're definitely aircraft from the Phonoi!" AWACS Goodfellow informed.
"Roger that. Phantom 1, engaging!" Danny said.
"Phantom 2, engaging!" Dani said as she and Danny's engagement is being monitored by Booker back at base.
"Phantom 1, Phantom 2, you two take the lead! The patrol aircraft must be protected! All aircraft, follow Phantom Squadron!" Booker ordered.
"Wilco." Jessica said.
"Understood." Bruno said.
"Understood." Damian said.
"Roger." Daniel said.
"Understood." Darius said.
Danny and Dani immediately engaged the Guys in White fighters and managed to down a couple of them. The Guys in White pilots know that Danny and Dani are here to stop their captain at all costs and once again have a opportunity to rid the world of their hated enemies.
"Phantom Twins revels in the killing. Catch them while they're at it!" a Guys in White pilot said.
"Go! Rip the wings off of those degenerates!" another Guys in White pilot said.
At the same time, Reaper Squadron starts to fire back at the Guys in White fighters.
"Reaper 5, engaging." Damian said.
"Reaper 7, engaging." Bruno said.
"Reaper 2, engaging. They must have been waiting for us in the air!" Darius said.
As the mission progresses, Booker has been thinking about the fighter craft that the Guys in White have. Knowing that the Phonoi is a submersible aircraft carrier, he hasn't really know how many aircraft the submarine can carry. Joseph is also connected from his cellphone at Amity Park so that he can know what's going on 5,000 kilometers away from him.
"Joseph, here's a question. How many aircraft can the Phonoi carry?" Booker asked.
"Twenty to thirty, depending on the type of aircraft... but it's unconfirmed intel. Could be more. With the Phantom Twins, you could reduce them to a single digit!" Joseph replied.
"Wait, the Guys in White has different type of aircraft. Geez, I wonder what else about the Guys in White's inventory we don't know about." Dani said.
"No time to think about that now. Focus on the mission." Danny said.
Dani manages to get behind a Guys in White fighter and immediately gets a lock on it. She fires two missiles and managed to shoot down the fighter. Dani then noticed one of the patrol aircraft dropping the sonobuoys.
"Ghoul Squadron. Status on the sonobuoys?" Dani said.
"Twenty percent of sonobuoys dropped!" a patrol aircraft pilot said.
"Roger." Dani said.
Meanwhile, on board the submerged Phonoi, the crew were monitoring the ongoing battle that was taking place above the surface of the ocean, with some of the crew seeing Danny and Dani shooting down some of the drones and the submarine's air wing, seeing the debris falling down.
"Debris from the downed aircraft is landing in the water." a Guys in White Phonoi crew member said, informing Matias.
"Let me know when the bodies... I mean the debris stops raining." Matias said.
At the same time, AWACS Goodfellow has detected two new formations of drones that were launched from the Phonoi and sees that they are flying towards the patrol aircraft.
"We're detecting additional UAVs! Intercept them!" AWACS Goodfellow ordered.
"So there's more hiding!" Dani said.
"Phantom Squadron, can you get 'em?" Jessica asked.
"We're already on it, Razor." Danny replied.
Danny and Dani splits up to intercept the drone formations. Danny managed to catch up to one formation before locking on to them. He fires a volley of AIM-120 missiles and each of them managed to destroy the drones before they can attack the patrol aircraft. Dani also engage the other formation of drones. She also fired AIM-120s at the drones, but some of the missiles missed the last two. Dani then fired a AIM-9X missile at one drone and managed to destroy it before using her aircraft's machine gun to destroy the last one of the formation. As Danny and Dani heads to engage the last of the drones, Joseph, unaware to Danny and Dani, is out on the streets of Amity Park with Chloe, Sam, Jacob and Tucker as the five are near the demonstrations and parades that are taking place. Joseph then noticed a scuffle between two groups of demonstrators and advertising drones flying above the crowd. Joseph then believes it's time to inform Danny and Dani of his presence at town.
"Do you have a moment?" Joseph asked.
"What's up?" Dani asked.
"Two groups of demonstrators have clashed! People are running away! I see lots of signs held up! There are even banners flying in the air! They're advertising drones!" Joseph said.
"What, you're in Amity Park?!" Dani asked, not believing Joseph is at town.
"Well, yeah, it's a Team Phantom situation as well. I haven't solved the terminal guidance mystery either." Joseph replied.
"I meant, why aren't you running?" Dani asked.
"Hey, you guys aren't running, are you?" Joseph asked.
"Dang, right." Jessica said.
"Joseph, is anyone from the team is with you right now? Am I on speaker?" Danny asked.
"I can hear you, Danny. Hope you and Dani stop that submarine." Sam said.
"We've heard about this threat. Too many people are still showing up in town." Tucker said.
"Hope you guys stop it. We still need to stop Dan and Dana once he gets the Staff back." Jacob said.
"We will, Jacob. I can't lose you again." Dani said.
"Sam, Tucker, Jacob, head back to Fenton Works and help Joseph with the terminal guidance mystery. You can monitor the demonstrations back there. Get the rest of the team involved too." Danny said.
"On it, Danny. Good luck." Sam said.
"Running? Wait, running? Yes, those drones are running away!" Joseph said.
"What do you mean?!" Dani asked.
"What's going on down there?" Danny asked.
"I'll call you back! Chloe, I need you to check something!" Joseph said.
"Forty percent of sonobuoys dropped!" a patrol aircraft pilot said.
"Keep hostiles far from the patrol aircraft!" a US Navy pilot said.
"Locked on! You're mine!" Jessica said.
Danny and Dani then regrouped before they fired their missiles at the last two drones that were flying, successfully shooting them down.
"Thanks! I owe you!" a US Navy pilot said.
"Hostile confirmed down!" a female patrol aircraft pilot said.
"Told ya so! The Phantom Twins got our back!" a patrol aircraft pilot said.
"Phantom 1, Phantom 2, the other guys are standing their ground, but in the end it comes down to you two. Do us proud!" Booker said.
"Seventy percent of sonobuoys dropped!" a patrol aircraft pilot said.
"Just a little more!" Dani said.
Suddenly, a new formation of drones from the Phonoi has emerge out of the nearby clouds and are once again flying towards the patrol aircraft, which got Goodfellow's attention.
"All aircraft, be advised. Our radars picked up new hostiles." AWACS Goodfellow informed.
"Roger that. Dani, let's take them out." Danny said.
"Roger, let's take down these cheap drones." Dani said.
Meanwhile, back at the Phonoi, Logan noticed the situation as he realized it's only a matter of time before the submarine is located. He brings his concern to Matias.
"Should we clear the baffles, Captain?" Logan asked.
"They won't chase by sea. Pursuers will be airborne." Matias replied.
At the same time, the patrol aircraft are getting close to finishing their sonobuoy drop as Danny, Dani, Reaper Squadron and their escorts do their best to protect them.
"Ninety five percent of sonobuoys dropped!" a patrol aircraft pilot said.
Back at the submarine, Logan and Matias continue to observe Danny and Dani's efforts to shoot down the drones and protect the patrol aircraft, noticing how they have to fly from one area to another.
"They must be very frustrated right now. It's nearly impossible to find us in these open seas." Logan said.
"Come if you dare, Phantom Twins." Matias said with a hint of anger.
Suddenly, two more Guys in White fighters from the Phonoi's air wing arrived at the area and are flying towards the patrol aircraft to shoot them down as well as aid the drones, which they got detected by Goodfellow.
"Confirming new hostiles." AWACS Goodfellow informed.
Dani then focus her attention on one drone that was closing in on a patrol aircraft. She first fired a missile but she missed. She then fired her aircraft's machine gun and managed to take down the drone in a fiery inferno.
"Bandit down!" Dani said.
"Thanks. I owe you." a US Navy pilot said.
"So they won't be landing 'till they wipe us out, huh?" a US Navy pilot said.
"They're ready to die for this one!" another US Navy pilot said.
"Will the sonobuoys be able to last 'till we find it?" Danny asked.
"We're good. The sonobuoys should have enough battery life." a patrol aircraft pilot replied
Suddenly some of the drones and the Guys in White jets began attacking one of the patrol aircraft, bringing panic to the pilots.
"This is Ghoul 2. We've been attacked by hostiles!" a patrol aircraft pilot said.
"Our ghost pal is in a tight spot." Dani said.
"And us two half ghosts will protect it." Danny said.
"Go back underwater where you came from!" a US Navy pilot said.
Danny and Dani immediately and quickly shot their missiles at the remaining drones and Guy in White fighters before they can shoot down one of the patrol planes. After a few minutes, the patrol aircraft successfully dropped all the sonobuoys, creating the sonobuoy barrier.
"All sonobuoys dropped! Barrier completed! All of us getting out alive certainly wasn't in our calculations! We owe you!" a patrol aircraft pilot said.
"You can't really calculate outcomes when you've got an X-factor with you." Dani said.
"Alright, I got the MAD. Ghoul Squadron, AWACS, where do I search at?" Danny asked.
"Signal analysis complete! Data linking the Phonoi's navigable zones!" a patrol aircraft operator replied.
"Roger that! Displaying the search area on your radar map!" AWACS Goodfellow said as Danny sees the projected search area on his map and began to fly towards it. "The Phonoi's somewhere inside that ring! Activating the MAD!"
Goodfellow then activates the MAD that was equipped on Danny's plane. Danny noticed the detector on his HUD, which is in the form of a waveform indicator.
"Do you see the waveform indicator above your HUD?" AWACS Goodfellow said.
"Yep. I see it, Goodfellow." Danny replied.
"Fly over the search area and look for a location that induces a change in the waveform." AWACS Goodfellow instructed.
"Roger that." Danny said.
"We're treasure hunting for real, huh?" Dani asked.
"All aircraft except Phantom 1, you're on contingent combat air patrol." AWACS Goodfellow said.
"This submarine may be huge, but it's still gonna be like looking for a needle in a haystack." Daniel said.
"I'm confident Phantom 1 will find it. Besides, the Phantom Twins always find a way to succeed no matter what." Damian said.
Danny began focusing on the waveform indicator to see any change to the wave form. He flies at low altitude so that he can detect the submarine better while everyone else was doing the combat air patrol.
"C'mon, sharky, where are ya?" Jessica asked.
"Yeah, where are you?" Danny asked.
Suddenly, Danny starts to see some slight changes in the waveform as he is starting to pick up a detection. He yaws his plane so that the peaking can stay in the middle.
"Okay, Phantom 1. Your MAD's getting something. The waveform on your HUD should have peaked. Turn and fly in the direction where the waveform peaks." AWACS Goodfellow said.
"Way ahead of you, Goodfellow." Danny said.
"How that huge thing hide from us all this time?" Dani asked.
"Because their captain made us do his dirty work in the last mission." Danny said.
Danny continue to focus on the waveform and flies in a direction everytime the form peaks. Suddenly, the waveform starts to peak every second.
"Phantom 1, your MAD's showing a stronger reaction. The Phonoi must be near." AWACS Goodfellow said.
"You've set the hook; now you just have to reel it in!" Darius said.
"Almost got it, Phantom 1!" Damian said.
After a few more seconds, Danny's MAD managed to detect the Phonoi, much to Danny's delight.
"Gotcha." Danny said.
"Picking up a magnetic signature." AWACS Goodfellow said.
Before either Danny or Goodfellow can take action, the MAD's signal started to get jammed, causing the waveform to glitch.
"What the? The MAD's waveform is glitching!" Danny said.
"Signature lost! I'm seeing strong noise in the MAD's signal!" AWACS Goodfellow said.
"Shoot! They predicted we'd used a MAD!" Joseph said, who had called back.
"Seems like this is our contingency!" Dani said.
"Does anyone see the source of the noise on the ocean surface? It's likely similar to a buoy!" Joseph asked.
"I don't have a window, so I don't know about buoys, but I'm detecting strong radio sources!" AWACS Goodfellow replied.
"Correct! That's it!" Joseph said.
"Sending the location of the jamming devices. Destroy them!" AWACS Goodfellow said.
Goodfellow then sends the information regarding the location of the jamming buoys, and Danny and Dani immediately goes full throttle to destroy them.
"Danny, let's destroy the jamming buoys!" Dani said.
"And fast too!" Danny said.
"All these jammers must have been deployed beforehand. They predicted our moves." Darius said.
"Then we'll go beyond their expectations." Jessica said.
Danny and Dani then fired their missiles at the jamming buoys to destroy them. However, the jamming buoys generated huge underwater explosions once destroyed, which caught Danny and Dani's attention.
"What the...?! A huge explosion just went off underwater!" Dani said.
"Same! Saw a underwater explosion when I destroyed a jamming buoy!" Danny said.
"An explosion?! Patrol aircraft, what's happening underwater?" Joseph asked.
"Underwater listening is impossible! We're only hearing explosion echoes!" a patrol aircraft operator replied.
"The Phonoi will use the noise for cover and head out at full speed." Joseph said.
"Destroy the jamming buoys before the enemy submarine escapes!" AWACS Goodfellow ordered.
Meanwhile, on the Phonoi, Matias sees that Danny and Dani are destroying the jamming buoys, which are causing the underwater explosions, giving a opportunity to head for the nearby trench.
"Full speed ahead!" Matias ordered.
"Aye, sir!" a Guys in White Phonoi crew member said.
Meanwhile, Danny and Dani continue to destroy the rest of the jamming buoys as much as they can.
"Don't let 'em get away!" Dani said.
"We won't! Not on our hands!" Danny said as he destroys a jamming buoy.
"Keep it up!" Bruno said.
"Dang it! Ghoul, I need you to determine the sub's location again, as soon as the noise dies down!" Joseph said.
"Can we make it?" Jessica asked.
"We will, Razor." Danny said.
Danny and Dani then gets a lock on the last jamming buoy. The two fires their respective missiles and managed to destroy the last jamming buoy, triggering the last underwater explosion.
"The last jamming buoy has been destroyed!" AWACS Goodfellow said.
"How'd it go?" Daniel asked.
"Wait for the sonobuoys to respond." a patrol aircraft operator replied.
"Dang it!" Jessica said.
"Roger. Standing by." Danny said.
Danny, Dani and all of Reaper Squadron then waited in silence as Ghoul Squadron works to determine the Phonoi search area. Daniel began to get concern as the patrol aircraft were silent for a long time.
"Hey, you okay?!" Daniel asked.
"Analysis done! Data linking!" a patrol aircraft operator replied.
The patrol aircraft then send the data to AWACS Goodfellow, who then send it to both squadrons.
"It's location has moved! Phantom 1, I'm sending you the search area! Don't let it get away!" AWACS Goodfellow said as he sends the search area data to Danny.
"Got it! I'm on it! Beginning the search!" Danny said as he began focusing on the waveform indicator to see any change to the wave form.
"The Phonoi has almost reached the trench! Time's running out!" Joseph said.
"Hurry!" AWACS Goodfellow said.
"It's okay, Danny's already on the hunt!" Dani said.
As Danny rapidly searches for the submarine, the Phonoi launches more drones, which Goodfellow managed to pick them up.
"Confirming more hostile UAVs! They just launched from the Phonoi!" AWACS Goodfellow said.
"It can launch them underwater?!" Jessica asked in disbelief.
"You gotta be kidding me?!" Damian said in disbelief.
"If you can splash even one, it'll be that much easier for Phantom 1!" Daniel said.
"Phantom, Reaper. We don't have much time left." Booker said.
"Don't you worry! Danny will find it!" Dani said.
"Phantom 1's given me so much cover and I still... Dang, I'm just pathetic!" Jessica said.
"Double-time it, Phantom 1!" Booker said.
After a few more seconds, Danny's MAD once again managed to detect the Phonoi, much to Danny's delight once more.
"Gotcha this time!" Danny said.
"You've reeled it in! Positive hit on the MAD!" AWACS Goodfellow said.
"That's it!" Dani said in excitement.
"Phantom 1 has founded the submarine Phonoi!" AWACS Goodfellow informed.
"Yeah!" a female patrol aircraft pilot said.
"Yeah!" a patrol aircraft pilot said.
"Yeah! All that flying around paid off!" another patrol aircraft pilot said.
"We ain't done yet. Give it the finishing blow!" Dani said.
"Alright, time for the fleet to do their job!" Danny said.
Meanwhile, Danny's MAD data was sent to the US naval fleet as it prepares to sink the Phonoi.
"Target coordinates acquired." a US fleet crew member said.
"Commence preparations to fire the VL-ASROC!" a US fleet crew member said.
And that's the end of the chapter. Even the search for the Phonoi can be very intense, but Danny have managed to successfully find the submarine. But will the US naval fleet successfully sink it and end Matias world ending nuclear threat once and for all? Find out next time in the next chapter. Please review. :)
