CHAPTER SEVENTY: NEW GUILD

Domus Flau...

Fireworks and balloons were shooting up in the sky, and the crowds were cheering. Vendors were passing out drinks and food.

"Beer! Get your beer!"

"Alright, it's that time of year! The annual magic festival... The Grand Magic Games!"

Inside the tunnels was Team Fairy Tail, dressed in purple uniforms with the Fairy Tail emblem on it. "That's some cheering." Erza commented.

"I didn't realize there'd be so many people." Lucy admitted.

"Both Fiore wizards and a ton of regular spectators, it seems." Aira pointed out as he grabbed the hair tie that he clutched between his teeth, gathering his hair together.

Natsu looked down at his outfit. "Y'know, I really don't like this outfit."

"It's too late to whine about it now! Master told us to wear matching team colors, right?" Lucy reminded.

"I like mine. It's cute." Erza said.

Aira finished tying his hair in a man-bun. "It's fine." He added, looking down at his purple trench coat. The Fairy Tail emblem was located on the right side of his chest.

Gray had a dark shadow casted over his eyes. "I don't believe this, but I'm supposed to put this on...?" He held up a small outfit - that was obviously meant for Wendy.

Natsu pointed at him as he laughed. "That's great!" He commented.

"You won't fit into Wendy's outfit, huh?" Lucy questioned.

"Lyon would definitely have a kick out of that." Aira smirked as Gray glared at him.

"I was jazzed to participate in this, but is Wendy okay?" Gray asked.

Everyone stayed silent, recalling what had happened to Wendy.

Earlier...

Natsu slams the door to the infirmary open. "Wendy!" He shouted.

Wendy and Carla were on the infirmary bed, with the others gathered around her. "Where was she?!" Natsu asked.

"Near some bushes in the palace garden." Happy replied.

Wendy's face scrunched up in pain. "Wendy!" Natsu exclaimed as Wendy opened her eyes.

"Natsu-san..."

"What happened?" Natsu asked.

"I'm sorry... I can't... really remember..." Wendy responded before wincing in pain.

"Wendy..."

"It seems she has magic deficiency disease."

"Porlyusica-san!"

"What are you doing here?" Lisanna questioned.

"Something wrong with coming to cheer you on?" Porlyusica asked.

"No!" Lisanna answered nervously, standing up straight.

"You don't need to be nervous around me. I'm not going to eat you up." Porlyusica reassured.

"Right..."

"I heard what's going on with you and it made me worried, so here I am." Porlyusica told Wendy. "Let me have a look."

Porlyusica touches Wendy's forehead. "Just before, you said she has magic deficiency disease..." Erza stated.

"Yes. Magic deficiency disease is when the sudden lost of a great deal of magic power causes all of the muscles to weaken." Porlyusica turned to the group. "If she's allowed to rest for a while, she'll recover."

"What happened?" Natsu asked.

"I don't really remember it clearly, but there was some kind of black animal..." Wendy muttered before she gasped. She turned around as she began to cry.

"Wendy..."

"I'm sorry, everyone... After all the training I did, I... I can't participate..." Wendy continued to sob as everyone was silent. "Gray-san... Please compete in my place."

Gray was shocked for a moment before smiling. "Of course! Leave it to me!" He reassured.

"Okay, everyone leave. She needs her rest now!" Porlyusica said.

"Let's go. The only thing we can do right now is compete in the Grand Magic Games." Erza reminded.

"But that's not all of it, right? We have to become Fiore's number one guild!" Cain added as the team soon left the infirmary.

Team Fairy Tail was currently in the tunnels, getting ready to head out into the arena. "Is the villain who harmed Wendy someone connected to this tournament?" Natsu wondered.

"It's possible." Lucy replied.

"Someone trying to weaken us? Or..." Aira trailed off.

"All we can do now is do this! We've gotta do our best, for Wendy's sake, too!" Gray informed.

"Alright, in just this moment, the curtain will rise on the Grand Magic Games. I'm your emcee, Chapati Rola, and next to me is former Council member, Yajima-san, who will provide the commentary. Yajima-san, I look forward to working together." Chapati said.

"Likewise." Yajima replied.

"And I'd like to introduce our guest for day one, the current Miss Fiore, Blue Pegasus's Jenny Rearlight!"

"We're gonna win this year!" Jenny said.

"Alright, let's go!" Natsu exclaimed as Team Fairy Tail began walking out of the arena.

"Okay, the players are about to take the field!" Chapati announced as Team Fairy Tail stepped into the arena. "Starting with the eighth-ranked team! Can they recapture their past glory?! The group whose name clashes with their rowdiness! Fairy Tail!"

Natsu raised his fist up in the air as the audience booed. "What?!" Natsu exclaimed.

"Booing, are they?!" Aira questioned in disbelief.

"What the heck is this?!" Lucy asked.

"Fairy Tail has come in last place every year, but they survived the elimination round, though even in that, they were in eighth place. Will the Tenrou bunch that created a sensation with their homecoming now become Fiore's number one?!" Chapati said.

"Don't let it get to you." Erza reassured.

Yajima sent a thumbs-up. "I'm just glad they're back. Congratulations, Fairy Tail."

"Let's start cheerin' 'em on!" Makarov exclaimed.

"Hooray! Hooray! Hooray, Fairy Tail!"

"As long as we've got the support of our comrades. That's all that counts." Erza said

"Yeah." Lucy nodded in agreement.

Both Aira and Natsu widened their eyes. "What the heck is that?!" Natsu wondered.

"I don't believe it!" Lucy exclaimed.

"How...?!" Erza wondered.

Up on the ledge was Master Mavis. "Hooray, hooray, Fairy Tail!" She cheered.

"Master Mavis!"

Mavis chuckled. "I've come to show my support."

"You came..."

"It's fine! Only those bearing the guild's insignia can see me." Mavis reassured.

"I, uh, don't know if that's the issue..."

Mavis smiled. "After all, I've got nothing to do being cooped up on Tenroujima all the time."

Natsu laughed in amusement. "It's encouraging having the first master here to watch us!"

"Even though she's a ghost..." Aira muttered.

"Alright! Let's move on with the team that finished seventh, the hounds of hell, Quatro Cerberus!"

"Wild Four!" Rocker announced as Quatro Cerberus appeared.

"This is the year that we win, all you bastards!" Goldmine claimed.

"In sixth place, the all-female guild, the dancing girls of the great deep, Mermaid Heel!" Chapati continued as Mermaid Heel appeared.

"I never heard of that guild!" Happy exclaimed.

"In fifth place are the bright blue wings in pitch dark, Blue Pegasus!"

"Do your best, everyone!" Jenny cheered for her guildmates.

"Continuing with fourth place! The goddess of love and war, the holy destroyer, Lamia Scale!" Chapati continued.

"Why did you come in fourth place?! Were you slacking off, you idiots?!" Obaba scolded, spinning her fist.

"Sorry, Obaba-sama. I screwed up..." A girl with pink hair spoke before she fell.

"Who the hell is she?" Natsu asked.

"What happened to her usual 'love'? Where's the love?" Aira questioned.

"Sherria, don't get flustered." Lyon scolded.

"Sorry, Lyon." The pinkette, now known as Sherria, apologized.

"Sherria is Sherry's cousin." Yuka explained.

"Cousin?" Natsu quoted.

Toby howled. "She's totally strong!"

Sherria shakes her head. "No, I'm not. I still don't have nearly enough love."

"I'm complimenting you!" Toby exclaimed.

"Don't blow your stack over that."

"I guess the cousin's all about love too, huh?" Aira mumbled.

"Gray. Don't forget that promise." Lyon walks up to Gray. "If we win, Juvia joins our guild."

"I don't remember agreeing to that, but we ain't gonna lose to you people." Gray said.

Ichiya slid over to Erza, covered in sparkles. "In that case, I'll take Erza-san."

"You're not taking me anywhere!" Erza rejected.

Ichiya sniffed her. "As always, you exclude an exquisite parfum..."

Ren had an arm wrapped around Lucy. "I'll choose you. Although it's not because I especially like you..."

"Have you been acting like this for the past seven years?" Lucy questioned.

Eve looked around. "Huh? Where's Wendy-chan?" He asked Aira.

"She's not able to participate at the moment." Aira explained, crossing his arms. "Anyway, how have you been, Eve?"

"Maybe I'll join Mermaid Heel!" Hibiki exclaimed, pointing to Team Mermaid Heel.

"That's off-topic!" Toby shouted.

"Hey, I haven't seen that person before either..." Lucy pointed out, referring to the person in the bunny suit.

"Are you sure that's a person?!" Aira asked.

"Next up, finishing third in the elimination round... Oh, my! This comes as a surprise! The first appearance of a guild, and in third place! The midnight mobile force, Raven Tail!" Chapati continued.

"Raven Tail?!" Natsu repeated.

"That's the guild of the master's son, Ivan..." Erza informed.

"But that's..." Lucy trailed off as the Raven Tail representatives all had dark looks.

"...a Dark Guild!" Master Makarov exclaimed in anger. "You're lettin' a guild like that participate in the Grand Magic Games?!"

"Master, calm down." Macao held him back from going down into the arena.

"You'll fall from there..." Lisanna added on.

"Certainly, I sense malice coming off of them." Mavis commented.

"They said that's a Dark Guild."

"I don't think I've heard of them before."

"According to the official record, Raven Tail has been around for more than seven years, but they've only recently been recognized as a legitimate guild." Chapati said.

"Recognized by the Guild Federation, and not as a Dark Guild, right?" Yajima questioned.

"Damn you, Ivan... How dare you?!" Master Makarov said. "How did you manage that?!"

Up in the stands was Ivan. "Keep it down, Father. Don't spoil this day."

"Fairy Tail... The girl was just by way of greeting."

A little monster transformed into Wendy before making a knocked out motion. Natsu's expression turned into anger. "You guys did that to Wendy... I'll get you for that!" He exclaimed as Aira, Lucy, Erza, and Gray also had stern expressions.

"Let's enjoy the festival."

"Ivan..." Makarov muttered.

"Alright, there are still two more teams that made it through the elimination round!"

"That's right. There are still two more..." Happy said.

"One must be Sabertooth, right?" Macao questioned. "And the other..."

"The main guilds are all already out here..." Lisanna said.

"Was there another strong guild that kept itself hidden?" Aira asked.

"Does it have a connection to the magic power that Jellal was talking about?" Erza wondered.

"The second-place finisher... oh, this is a shocker! Will they become the soaring key with tattered wings?" Footsteps were soon heard as both Natsu and Aira were in shock. "The unbeliveable, improbable..." Fairy Tail's emblem flashed like lightning. "...Fairy Tail B Team!"

"Satsuki?!"

"Gajeel?!"

"Juvia?!"

"Isn't it against the rules for Laxus to be on the team?!"

"Another Fairy Tail team..." Ichiya said.

"And what's Mystogan doin' there?!" Natsu exclaimed, pointing a finger.

"Don't tell me, you're... Jellal?!" Erza muttered as Jellal placed a finger to his lips.

"Seriously?!" Aira and Natsu shouted in unison.

"Juvia..." Lyon muttered.

"That's the one you love, Lyon?" Sherria asked.

"That's Fairy Tail for you. Two teams made the cut..." Hibiki commented.

"Laxus... Gajeel... and Satsuki..."

"What the hell is this?! Why does Fairy Tail get two teams?! That's too wild!"

"Well, it looks like a lot of people are up in arms over a revision of the rules this time, Yajima-san." Chapati informed.

"For this tournament, each guild can have one team, which is nice, but they can also have two teams participating." Yajima explained.

"I didn't hear anything about that, Master!" Lucy complained.

Makarov laughed loudly. "You see that?! That's Fairy Tail!" He exclaimed.

"The final round will be a battle between all of the teams, but will members of the same guild be able to fight each other?" Chapati questioned.

"I don't think they'd have a problem with it..." Yajima replied.

"But it's not really fair, is it?" Jenny asked. "For example, if one member from each team competes in an event, it's like only Fairy Tail gets to fight as a pair, right?"

"You're saying that out of over 100 teams, the two winning Fairy Tail teams have an advantage, yes?" Chapati said.

"That is an advantage to them-mabo." Yajima stated.

"Mabo?"

"I see! That's how there were so many teams participating." Lucy commented.

"Gimme a break!" Natsu exclaimed. "We may be in the same guild, but I go all out in a showdown an' show no mercy! You guys are competing as another team, so you're the enemy! I ain't gonna lose against you bastards!"

"You took the words right out of my mouth... eighth place team member." Gajeel said.

"Gajeel's gotten a lot stronger." Lily bragged.

"Not strong enough to beat Natsu!" Happy said.

"At any rate, B Team looks totally tough!" Romeo commented.

"Listen here, Poseidon. If we go up against one another, I ain't gonna pull my punches." Satsuki informed.

Aira smirked challengingly. "Is that a challenge, Satsuki? Then I accept."

"Jella... Mystogan... You..." Erza began.

"You've got a very understanding master. When I explained the circumstances to him, he consented readily." Jellal said.

"You said you wouldn't come near the venue." Erza told him.

"At the time, I hadn't yet thought of this method."

"It's an infraction of the rules. You're not a member of our guild."

"Though I've heard that Mystogan and I are the same person in a sense..."

Laxus suddenly wrapped his arm around Jellal. "Oh, don't get so huffy about it. This is a festival, right, Mystogan?" He questioned.

"That's right, Erza." Jellal agreed.

"But one thing, Mystogan... Mystogan is just a little more tight-lipped. Be careful." Laxus warned.

"Understood."

"That masked person isn't a member of the guild, is he?" Mavis asked as Makarov had a stunned expression.

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" Makarov apologized repeatedly.

"I told you not to do it." Macao informed.

"I tried to stop him." Wakaba added on.

"But he's not evil. Strangely enough, I sense that he has the same heart as those who bear the insignia of our guild." Mavis stated.

"It's a long story, but in a sense, you could say he is a member of our guild." Happy said.

"I see. So that's this world's Jellal." Boris commented. "The prince..."

"Is he strong?" Mavis questioned.

"Oh, sure. He was formally counted as one of the 10 Great Wizard Saints." Makarov replied.

Mavis's hair perked up. "I approve." She finally said, her eyes having sparkles. "So that Fairy Tail wins!"

"That's the first master for you..." Droy muttered.

"Even if the logic is twisted, she doesn't care..." Jet said.

"That's our guild in a nutshell." Levy added on.

"So, have you noticed anything?" Jellal questioned.

"Other than Raven Tail being suspicious, nothing especially." Erza responded.

"That guild is making its debut here, right? They don't mesh with the magic power I sense every year." Jellal said.

"How about you? Do you sense that magic power or whatever now?" Erza asked.

"No. Not yet."

Ivan was looking at Gajeel and Satsuki. "Gajeel-chan... Satsuki-chan..."

"Alright, we've just got one more team left to introduce!" Chapati said as the crowd began cheering. "That's right, you know who it is! They're the strongest, invincible, indisputable champions! Sabertooth!"

Sabertooth came out of the arena as Sting had his fists raised. "So here you are, huh?" Natsu said.

"Let's have a good time, Natsu-san!" Sting waved his index finger around.

"Who the hell are you starin' at?!" Gajeel asked Rogue.

"Gajeel..." Rogue muttered.

"So that's Fiore's strongest guild?" Gray questioned.

Aira felt eyes staring at him as he glanced over, seeing a brunette with golden eyes staring at him. He wore a green sweatshirt with golden accents along with black cargo pants and went barefoot.

"You got a staring problem or somethin'?" Aira asked.

"No..." The brunette replied before furrowing his eyebrows. "Airavata Mizuki... I thought Sting was pulling my leg when he told me he encountered you, but it seems it's true."

Three Exceeds were cheering from the Sabertooth stand.

"Good luck Sting-kun!" Lector cheered.

"You too, Arlo!" A biege-colored Exceed said.

"Fro is cheering you on, too!" Frosch added.

This grabs the attention of Happy, Lily, Cain, and Boris. "Are those Exceeds in the stands?!" Lily questioned.

"Two of them were there when Aira and I encountered them. The third one wasn't." Cain replied.

Happy turned around. "Don't you lose, Natsu! Gajeel, do your best! Aira, take them down!" He cheered, waving his arms around.

"And now, all of the teams are here, but what are your impressions, Yajima-san?" Chapati turned to Yajima.

"I envy their youth!" He replied.

"That's not really what I meant..." Chapati said as Yajima looked at him in confusion. "Okay, everyone, you've waited long enough. I'm going to announce the program of the Grand Magic Games!"

A stone brick soon uprooted from the ground. "So there's a competition and battle every day?" Aira asked.

"Battle, huh?" Natsu said.

"Starting with the competition, points have already been divided among the teams, according to their ranking in the elimination round, from first to eighth. Now for the competition part, each team can select one of their members to take part. And for the battle part, the results of fan votes will be taken into consideration when the sponsors make the pairings."

"What?!" Erza said.

"They can decide on the match-ups however they want?!" Aira questioned.

"In other words... if you're unlucky, you could exhaust your magic during the competition part, then be forced into battle." Lucy stated.

"The rules for the battle part are simple. As you can see, the teams face off against each other, with the winning team receiving ten points and the losing team getting zero points. In the case of a tie, both teams will receive five points. And now, the Grand Magic Games' opening game! Let's begin 'Hidden'!" Chapati announced.

"Hidden...?"

"What kind of game is that?!"

"One person from each team will compete. I'll explain the rules of the game after all of the players are on the field."

"Leave this one to me!"

"Never forget! Your soul is always..."

"Wild Four!"

"The first person to step up is Quatro Cerberus's Yeager!" Chapati announced as Yeager appeared on screen.

"Let me check out the first one!"

"You have permission."

"From Mermaid Heel, Beth Vanderwood!"

"Nalpudding, you go." The man in the gold suit ordered.

"Sure thing." Nalpudding replied.

"From Raven Tail, Nalpudding!"

"I'll do this one." Eve straightened his tie.

"Eve-kun is our first person." Ichiya said.

"Eve-kun is our first person!" Hibiki and Ren repeated.

"Eve has been called out! From Blue Pegasus, Eve Tilm!"

"I'll do it. The singing of the birds is pleasant today." Rufus said, taking off his hat.

"All eyes are on Sabertooth, and they go with the minstrel who sings to the red moon! Rufus is here!"

The crowd cheers in excitement. "Why are they makin' such a fuss?! Idiots!" Natsu claimed.

"I don't know what the rules of the game are, but the name is 'Hidden', so maybe hiding is necessary." Erza said.

"If only Wendy were here... She's little..." Lucy muttered.

"Being small may be the advantage here, so it should be either me or Yuka." Sherria suggested.

"Don't call me small!" Yuka exclaimed.

"No. I'm going to take off like a rocket from the start. I'll do it." Lyon said.

"From Lamia Scale, Lyon Vastia!"

"Huh? In that case, I'll be in it, too. You can show me what this tournament is like." Gray said.

"From Fairy Tail A Team, Gray Fullbuster!"

Juvia had hearts in her eyes. "If Gray-sama is going to be in it, then so is Juvia!" She exclaimed.

Satsuki sighed. "I can already tell where this is gonna go..." She mumbled.

"Hey! If you lose on purpose, there'll be hell to pay!" Gajeel threatened.

"From Fairy Tail B Team, Juvia Lockser!" Chapati finished. "All of the participating players from the eight teams are set! And now for the rules of the opening game, 'Hidden'!"

A/N: Yes, I decided to have Gray remain in the first competition, but don't worry! Aira will have his chance on Day 2!
