Connor drives Roman and Kendall back to their mother's place after a weekend of camping. Shiv had turned her nose up at the idea of sleeping outdoors, but Connor had convinced the boys it would be fun. It had been fun, apart from Connor getting food poisoning on the first night. He had looked so ill the next day, puking in the bushes, that Roman had taken pity on him and brought him some water. Kendall was still crowing in the background about how Connor shit himself.
On saying goodbye, Kendall hugs Connor and then runs inside to Caroline, but Roman holds on to his biggest brother. "I don't want you to go!" he yells, kicking and punching Connor in the hope that it will make him stay. "Take me with you!"
"Romey." Connor holds him firmly. "I'll see you again soon, I promise. We'll go fly-fishing, okay? Just you and me."
Roman finally lets go of Connor at this promise. "No Kendall?"
"No Kendall or Shiv. Just us."
Years later Roman will tell a journalist about how his father took him camping and fishing, swapping out Connor for Logan (and omitting the food poisoning part). A happy childhood memory is a happy childhood memory and, despite riding on elephants and flying in helicopters, he doesn't have many of those to spare.
