When Logan points at Kendall and tells Roman to take him outside, I don't trust him, Roman knows it's a test. This is the moment where he has to choose between his father and his brother.

He could do it, could bundle Kendall outside with the help of his father's security. It would be satisfying after years of being in his brother's shadow, after always being the one who gets hit by their father, after dog pound and countless other humiliations at the hands of his big brother.

A few days ago he might have done it. But that was before the pool incident, before Ken had sat down on the ground in front of him and Shiv and cried as he told them everything.

He's still scared of his father. But he finds some inner strength to say no to him, to stand by his siblings. Not that it does them any good.

He ends up sitting on the floor with Kendall's hands on his shoulders, and he remembers Ken crawling into his bed after the first time their dad hit him. It's okay Romey, I'm here.

Later he'll wish he had chosen his father. Especially when Kendall says that his confession was a move. But that was the first and only time he stood up to Logan, except in the voicemail that his dad never heard.

"Let's go," says Kendall, squeezing his shoulders. "Let's get out of here."

Slowly, unsteadily, Roman gets to his feet. He can't look at Gerri, or even at Shiv, who is being comforted by Tom.

"You in there?" Kendall asks. Roman nods. He lays a hand on Kendall's back and lets his brother lead him to safety.
